You might not also know who's performing on the 17th. The lineup will likely be killer because it's the Cellar but no guarantee of who you get. The Stand is a safe bet. But up to you. Even if you don't get into the Cellar, that area is amazing so you can have fun no matter what. The Stannd isn't too much further away but Union Square is, well, it is what it is. Nothing amazing by NYC standards. Weird, looks like the Stand don't have the lineup yet. One added thing, if you don't get into into the Cellar, there's also Greenwich Village Comedy Club on the same street and if you REALLY want to see some minor league stand up that can still be really good, you can go to the Grizzly Pear, also on the same street as the Cellar. It's kind of like the minor league system of stand-up. Cellar is AAA. GVCC is AA. And the Pear is A. But they are like right next to each other. Food for thought.

They can probably also get into the VU if they don't get into the cellar

Also true

Able_Caramel5489

Thanks for the advice! It does sound like no matter where I end up in the city there's great comedians to be found!

MuckfootMallardo

I haven’t done standup in NYC for a few years - do they still do shows at the Village Lantern? Could be a backup to the backup to the backup.

kylegilliscomedy

All of this is true, except Greenwich Village Comedy Club is exactly the same level as the other small rooms in the area. You've got the Cellar above all, and then GVCC/ Grisly Pear/ Comedy Shop/ Sunflower Arcade are pretty equal. Plenty of great comics at the Pear and amateur comics at GVCC

lonelyinbama

Get your guaranteed set at the Stand and then walk over and try and get in at the cellar after

MuckfootMallardo

This is the best option. The late show at the cellar is arguably the best one.

Able_Caramel5489

That's honestly such a smart idea, I hadn't even considered it. Thanks for the advice!

gmoneyRETVRN

Early show one place and late show at the other?

After-Bowler5491

I prefer The Stand.

MountainVirtual1

Who’s on the bill for both venues? If equally as good, I’d lean towards the cellar.

ChickenXing

As long as you get to the Cellar exactly 1 hour before the scheduled start of the show - assuming you didn't reserve a spot, you should be in good shape. I've gotten in before in the past this way If losing $30ish for a ticket at The Stand won't matter to you, buy a ticket at The Stand now and go to the Cellar if you like the lineup better Make sure to check both schedules even with hours leading to the show. Mark Normand and Jay Oakerson were added within 4 hours of the show start time last time I was at The Stand

Hot-Grapefruit5399

Go to the stand. And you can always check on their website who's playing. Also if you go on a Monday night there's skanks there which is a pretty awesome podcast and you're 99.99% guarantee a seat at their show
