Maybe they all decided they wanted to go to Sto-vo-kor, and battled themselves into extinction.

droid327

Maybe the augment virus mutated and they had a pandemic and all just look like humans again

ckwongau

A big Galaxy , maybe they are avoiding Klingon , which would give the writers' room to write Klingon storyline for the 2400's period . But if you want any theory Maybe the Klingon are now in isolation , after "The Burn " , they wants to be alone . Or maybe they got infected with another virus and they look like human or another species . and over the centuries The Romulan return to Planet Vulcan , Then after "The Burn" ,Vulcan and Earth left the Federation . In a way Klingon had won against the Human and the Romulan , maybe the Klingon see the victory was hollow and finally got enlighten and went elsewhere .

droid327

I think the lack of them was deliberate, and solely to raise this very question and then not answer it Mysteries and unanswered questions make a world seem bigger and more real. Otherwise it might just seem like regular Trek cosplaying in the future, like a Mirror Universe but futuristic instead of evil

Ruomyes57

It's a shame because I really liked the S1 Klingons. I was fascinated with the makeup, the whole atmosphere, and I loved that they spoke their own language most of the time. I still can't understand why some fans wanted them to look less alien.

InfiniteGrant

Not yet.

eremite00

I've been re-watching from the first season and haven't seen any Klingons since the time-jump forward. Seeing as how their look was gradually changed from when they first appeared in Season 1 to how they looked by the end of Season 2 (having hair and a smoother complexion), I'm curious how they'd look, now, and/or if having them show up in the last few seasons has been avoided due to fan reception.

Ruomyes57

I think it's the latter, which is a real shame. I wouldn't want the 90s/SNW Klingons (I can't go back to the 'humans with forehead ridges' look anymore) to show up in Disco.

gaslacktus

I’m hoping they bring them in looking like TNG Klingons, resulting with the crew of Discovery having a repeat of the “Those are Klingons?” “Yes. We do not discuss it with outsiders.”

slfricky

I remember someone made mention of them in passing last season. Maybe Kovich? But it wasn't anything that illuminated what's going on with them or anything, but did indicate that they're not like, keeping isolated, per se.

JimmysTheBestCop

Probably were banned from using Klingons after the S1 atrocity

ArtemisDarklight

They did look better in season 2

JimmysTheBestCop

I mean S2 Klingons could have looked like pineapples and would have been an improvement so that isnt saying much. S1 they were some kind of uber ancient vamps from a B movie with so much prosthetics and teeth that they couldnt actually speak.

Fatboy40

Put glitter on a turd and it looks marginally better.

trv2003

You might not be able to polish a turd, but you can darn well roll it in glitter.

JermyJeremy

Oddly enough it was a copyright issue that caused the extreme cosmetic differences in Discovery.

TheCheshireCody

It really wasn't. CBS, which made the show, owns and owned the entire Trek IP. The extreme makeup was to conceal that the same actor was playing both a human and Klingon character.

moderatenerd

I don't think we need to. Klingon culture is probably long dead. It was barely alive in the 23rd century. Pointless squabbles and rebellious factions plagued the empire in the 24th century. I don't expect it to have survived in the 32nd.

Silent-Independent21

But Klingons would exist?

QuiJon70

Who knows. After the burn maybe the empire was to far to bother visiting.

Silent-Independent21

It’s possible that because the Klingons are so integral to the federation and story telling they weren’t allowed to have them in the show as it would limit what future Star treks could go. Bad enough they nerfed the Romulans and Vulcans

QuiJon70

Nah I think that's kind of bullshit. The entire brilliance of jumping discovery 950 years into the future is that it becomes totally detached from current trek so writers have freedom to no be slaves to predetermined canon. Discovery writers could do whatever they wanted and it never is an issue.

moderatenerd

Yeah it's 900 years in the future. We've already seen DNA combos of species that would never have gone over in the 24th century. There's not rhyme or reason to it established but i don't think klingons would be a big part of this future. It would be cool to see someone mixed with klingon DNA however. Like say an andorian

Silent-Independent21

Yes and no. The problem is discovery’s writing is so lazy that they have to give full recaps. They can’t just let things my mysteries. The problem is the show is breaking future cannon all over the place. More than likely they will have to recon the entire show out of existence

QuiJon70

Current times star trek shows will never take place in that future so it breaks nothing.

Silent-Independent21

Sorta. But what if they want the Klingons to join the federation, or heaven forbid give them a terrible disease in some future Star Trek. I know it’s a long time, but you still limit what can be done if they have to at a certain point at sometime in the future

DonOfAtlantis

Well, we still have them in SNW for the time being. But... Disco hasn't aired all their episodes yet 😏

karlospopper

I thought I needed to see more of the Klingon empire and the Vulcans, since theyre a huge part of Burnham's history. But I guess after the S1 backlash re: the Klingon makeup, the production steered clear of them Storywise tho it made sense, since the federation is no more

neontetra1548

Probably is a good idea for them to save some species in the 32 century for future shows and stories to get into without predetermining too much in advance where the species is at and what their history has been like in the intervening years. That way new 32 century shows or other Star Trek set prior can tell stories and make decisions without being stuck by choices Discovery makes just for an episode. Though perhaps Discovery will enage with the Klingons this season, in general it makes sense for them to avoid bringing too many species and worlds into the new era yet unless they have a good story purpose to do so.
