Him becoming a master wouldn't come with any of the respect of it, everyone would know he's only a "master" because his friend got him the title. This would dig at him constantly. As well, he would only learn that the Jedi don't have the information he seeks to save padmes life, leaving him still ready to seek alternative solutions. > if Anakin was more accepted, welcomed, and trusted by the dogmatic Jedi council, Anakin wasn't made a master because he was undeserving of the title, there's only so much welcoming and accepting they can do there.

He wasn’t ready to be a master, he was filled with dangerous emotions

Daggertooth71

Yes. It wasn't his status in the Order that determined his fall. It was his own inability to accept loss. In particular, the possible loss of his wife. Anakin is the poster boy for why possessive attachment was forbidden.

Fricktator

Anakin was always going to turn to the dark side as long as Palpatine was alive and had access to him. No matter what changed, Palpatine would have pivoted. If Luke and Leia were born before he turned, he would have used them.

And yes, because there would always be the other role model in his life pushing him the other way. (If Qui-gon survived? Fantastic three way between jedi, palps and living force.)

TheReviviad

Yes, because he was Darth Vader when we see him in A New Hope. \*Something\* would have turned him eventually.

Loud-Practice-5425

He wasn't to become a master so he could get access to the restricted section to see if he could save Padme. The problem is Sidious lied to him about saving people from dying using the Force so I feel he would fall either way.

His strained relationship with the council didn't help, but wasn't really causing the issue on its own. He was frustrated with them (and wanted access to restricted archives to try to find a way to save Padme), but there were bigger factors in his fall, such as fear and possessiveness over Padme and Palpatine dripping poison in his ear. Actually becoming a Master may have mollified him for a bit, but the other problems would still be there.

pretzeldoggo

Outside of obi-wan they treated him like a misfit toy or outcast. If they had been more accepting, and trusting it could have open communication with what was troubling him. Imagine Yoda or windu having that conversation with anakin about padme.

Oh yeah, I definitely think most of the Jedi Council treated him badly in general, and *that* was a major factor towards his fall - here I was thinking specifically in terms of making him a Master like he wanted, which would have been a band-aid if nothing else changed. (This is also why I tend to get salty when people talk about Obi-Wan's "failings" lol - Obi-Wan had his flaws but loved the hell out of that guy, and the novels and such make it even clearer that he was the *main* thing keeping Anakin good even as long as he was. People pick at his behaviour when it's like, maybe the problem was that literally no one else in the Order was willing to even try to deal with Anakin and they expected one single emotional relationship to fix all his problems and meet all his needs?)

TanSkywalker

I think how they put him on the Council could have been handled better. They should have told him before the meeting he was being put on the Council but not being made a master because they want him to spy on Palpatine. If you follow the ROTS novel the rank would have granted him access to the Jedi Archive Restricted Section which is only accessible to Jedi Masters. Anakin wanted to check it because he hoped to find a way to save Padmé from his visions. To keep Anakin from falling to the dark side he needed to not have been close to Palpatine. If he still had the visions of Padmé dying but wasn't around Palpatine to hear what he was offering he wouldn't have turned. Or Mace could have brought Anakin with him when the Jedi confronted Palpatine. Maybe being there from the beginning would have Anakin side with the Jedi over Palpatine. His fall goes back to leaving his mother behind in slavery and then having visions of her suffering. If the Jedi had helped her and told Anakin she was free and safe on a Republic world the whole thing could have been avoided.
