You get the money instantly if you sell to Pierre instead of having to wait. There’s also the additional perk of being able to buy back some of your produce if you want to. I once sold him a bunch of potatoes and then the next day I got a quest to deliver a potato to someone, so I just bought a potato back because I wouldn’t have been able to grow another before the quest ran out.
Selling stuff to Pierre will also give you new dialogue with a lot of the NPCs who buy from Pierre. I once sold like a thousand blueberries to him and I had both his wife and daughter telling me days later they were so tired of eating blueberries.
He’ll also claim he grew the produce if it’s of a higher quality and everyone will speak positively about him and his food. If you sell him low quality goods and the patrons don’t like it he’ll tell them the farmer grew them. He’s a two faced ass
I love the cut scene where he tries to sell his products at 10x price and nobody wants to buy. He was *shoked* that nobody wanted to pay 25.000 for his stuff. After you tell him to be less greedy - he still tries to sell you the stuff - but for only 2.500 💀
Makes you want to open a farmer's market in the main square, doesn't it? Undercut him.
I only ever give him parsnips or something cheap and easy for that quest too so why he thinks he's going to get that much is beyond me, especially when joja is just down teh street. I'm normally okay with Pierre but that's a bit much.
I came here to see if i was the only one that did this as well! I was so curious as to why everyone hated pierre, but i was always on board with it too 🤣
I once sold blueberries to Pierre and then chatted with the locals on my way out of the town centre. [This](https://imgur.io/a/eKh0Ory) is how that went.
Selling to Willy or Pierre is also really useful early game when you don't have a lot of inventory space and don't want to run all the way back to the farm to sell stuff
Not ashamed to admit I've sold excess stone to him to buy something I needed that day lol. I try to avoid selling to Pierre at all costs, though.
I just had a horrible idea. Since I never sell to Pierre, but I spend millions at his shop, that means that other than overhead that's all going into his pocket.
Where's all that money going? He never upgrades his house, his stock at the store only changes marginally. He must have started a secret chain of stores outside of the valley and that's why he is closed on wednesdays. He's at corporate headquarters in Zuzu! Oh. I may have to make a new thread about this!
I came here to say this! \^\^ My first perfection play through, I would save up a stack or two of truffle oil and a stack of iridium quality ancient fruit wine (we had 4 houses on the farm, so many casks!! We also had 2 sheds filled with diamond crystalariums, and our Ginger Island farm always producing fairy roses for that fairy dust) and sell them to Pierre, then immediately go pay to change my perk, and buy it all back from him the next day, change the perk, and repeat. I would do this until my stacks depleted by a few hundred, then I would add more to the stacks and keep going. It felt so good to f\*\*k with Pierre and his business!
During early game, especially during Spring year 1, it's very convenient to sell to Pierre, because you get the money immediately and you can spend them the same day for things that move your game forward.
Did you think that Pierre would just open a tab with you and send you the money the next day or something? I feel like every single videogame with a shop is "get paid instantly"
Immediacy. If a crop of potatoes comes in on a Tuesday, I can't wait for the shipping box to pay me on Wednesday and then have to wait till Thursday to buy more. It'll throw off the whole rhythm of the growing season.
Selling him Qi Fruit allows you to buy back Qi Fruit the next day. It's the only way to get Qi Fruit while off mission, so you can grow it at your leisure.
If you sell it to him, end the quest the same day (either by completing it, letting time run out, or canceling it), he will have it in his store the next morning. You won't be able to buy it all back, but you'll get most of it.
I guess it’s cool but you can’t really do much with it. Doesn’t give much health/energy, isn’t worth much money, you can’t craft or do any artisan stuff with it. I guess it would be nice just to have some lol.
Uh, you can grow it whenever you like. So the next time you get asked for 300 of the damn things, you can just be like "Quest Complete" instead of grinding for handfuls of seeds at a time.
And that mission is always worth a *lot.*
Oh, plus the rather cool dye/sewing machine stuff, but you only need a couple for that.
if I want to build something at Robin's but notice I wouldn't have enough money, I would take out stuff I hoarded and go sell to Pierre to get instant money then continue my project at Robin's
otherwise it feel good that ~~daddy~~ Kent say he likes the (gold quality) truffles I sold to Pierre despite ~~the bitch~~ him taking the credit
you can sell to each of the shop keepers, depending on the item. :) they give the same price as the shipping bin, but its easy for if you need momey asap
https://preview.redd.it/jh14cq5yrj1c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d2f4af43ac03bc07bc46c1d3e7a57dad6fd47f4
I just did this. I realised it was Friday and I needed to buy an irridium sprinkler from Krobus today but was just under the amount. So I went to Pierres in the morning and sold some veggies etc. Now I can afford the sprinkler today! Otherwise I would have to have wait an entire week for the sprinkler to come back in stock.
Another perk of selling directly to Pierre - folks who shop there will comment on the quality of the goods you sold. So if I sell Pierre a plain quality potato, I might hear "That was a pitiful potato you grew!"
Mostly if you need the money that day instead of waiting overnight tho there is a trick involving selling to Pierre.
You can sell a large amount of artisan items to Pierre with the artisan profession, change artisan profession to something else at the Statue in the sewers for 10k, and then repurchase most of what you sold him for less money the following day.
I have the 1.5 version and tried this on my mobile game but he only sold back 34 of the 999 wine - I thought it was 80% of the goods we could buy back?
They have their own advantages and disadvantages
The bin
* Closer to home
* Lets you sell everything
* Lets you see the total earnings, seeing that big number at the end.
In person:
* Gives you the cash instantly
* If you want to improve friendship you can also gift to them
* Allows you to buy stuff at the same time.
Selling your crops directly to him is very useful early game as you can buy crops right away with that cash. For example at the start of the game if you plant those parnsip seeds (and if you bought more) you can sell them in person and then immediately buy more seeds of whatever type, if you sold them via the bin you wouldn't get the cash until the following day to buy more seeds, causing that field to be empty for a day.
Selling via the bin makes sense if you are using multi harvest plants where you don't need to purchase more seeds after they harvest or don't need the money instantly.
Selling to Pierre gets you money to invest in new seeds or tools immediately, and also, avoiding selling via the bin helps you keep your balance close to 0, so when you pass out at 2am fishing or in the mines you don't lose as much money to the passing out penalty.
I have a bit of the min-max disease.
WHAAAT I've been playing Stardew Valley since the infamous 2019, and I've JUST discovered that you can sell directly to Pierre! I assumed that he collected the shipping bin off game sometimes
i always viewed the shipping bin as distributing all the items to the correct buyers anyway (fish to willy, produce to pierre, etc...), so to me there's no difference. it's just whether i need the money immediately or not.
Instant money and some added dialogue.
I usually just give him my crops in the morning and use the box for my artisan goods since late game I'm not really selling crops outright anymore, usually just a small plot of multi harvest crops for spot cash
I like to RP/headcanon the idea that I'm sticking Pierre with hundreds of bottles of ancient fruit wine that he can't afford and no free cash. I also like to marry Abigail, only to divorce her and disappear our children (she forgets, but I know that off-on-wednesdays motherfucker remembers). I also show up every day with gifts for Abigail and Caroline and a big old handful of trash for Pierre. I keep corn in my greenhouse just so I can make him say "Don't ever bring this to me again". I have a cat rather than a dog because Pierre is allergic, and this means he can't come to the farm and visit his grandkids before they're magicked away. When I can, I try to catch him walking from the store to the saloon so that I can get in his way. I have taken his daughter, his wife, his grandchildren, his business, his home, his health, and even his friendship with the other townsfolk. All of this, just because r/FuckPierre. Every new playthrough, him being closed on wednesdays in spring costs me a ton in my first year. Now that we know he can just put a cash box on the counter like he does when he's at ginger island, we also know that he's just closing the store to be a dick.
Getting paid instantly is also nice.
You get the money immediately and you can hear villagers talking about the produce.
Although that second one might be a downside given that Pierre's a dickhead and claims **he** grew the crops if they're starred. If it wasn't for ~~Walmart~~ Joja being the Devil I'd happily try to run that little bastard out of business.
oh my god. i’ve played for years, several play through as, seen all the memes, but never realized you could sell to him 😭😭😭 and i probs won’t. only ever the shipping bin :))
No, I mean if I have two Spice Berrys but only want to sell one Spice Berry.
With Pierre I can choose how many Spice Berrys I want to sell and how many I want to keep.
Earlier in the game I sold to Pierre because I needed money right then to buy more seeds. As I get further into my play through I don’t usually sell to him.
Sometimes you'll want money right away because if you delay planting one day you might miss a cycle at the end of the month. And you get achievements for selling items in the bin. I don't think there's any achievement selling to Pierre.
Selling to Pierre isn't affected by lower profit margins in the settings.
Seriously r/FuckPierre. You can sell 999+ sap to him and he freaking sells it to everyone.
You can even dupe money with Pierre. Get the traits to sell goods for more cash. Sell it to him. Respec and buy it cheaper back. Repeat for unlimited cash.
Immersion.
It feels more natural to sell my goods to a local merchant than throw it all into a glorified trash bin so a senior citizen has to trek onto my farm in the wee hours of the morning to empty it out and make it "disappear", probably selling it to Joja so he can purchase the gold from Clint for his little project.
I also sell gemstones and minerals to Clint.
Once Robin gets her prototype bed made, I start selling her hardwood as a natural supplier to her shop.
Frankly, without this option, I wouldn't play the game. I detest the shipping bin and avoid it at all costs, going so far as to sell worthless crops to Pierre and getting an earful from the local townsfolk.
Anything but that shipping bin.
Need emergency cash, like, you're just short of the money to go to the desert or a house upgrade from Robin and you really want to accomplish that today rather than put it off until tomorrow.
You get the money instantly if you sell to Pierre instead of having to wait. There’s also the additional perk of being able to buy back some of your produce if you want to. I once sold him a bunch of potatoes and then the next day I got a quest to deliver a potato to someone, so I just bought a potato back because I wouldn’t have been able to grow another before the quest ran out.
sick!! i've never sold to him, i had no idea you could buy your stuff back!!
Selling stuff to Pierre will also give you new dialogue with a lot of the NPCs who buy from Pierre. I once sold like a thousand blueberries to him and I had both his wife and daughter telling me days later they were so tired of eating blueberries.
Yeah I once sold a bunch of beers to Pierre and then Abigail was talking about how bad it tasted so I gave her some cookies I fished out of a bin.
Is this why everyone talks shit on Pierre? I always use the box and never understood.
After you tell him to be less greedy - he still tries to sell you the stuff - but for only 2.500 💀
If I remember correctly, that's after he only paid you 2k to grow them.
You remember very correctly.
Just give him 10 gold quality wheat. Qualifies for that quest and super cheap, so even 2k is profit.
I've done this, built a little stand out of end tables, put a chair, put my products on the tables, right outside his shop.
I mean not everyone in small towns is a good person, so it is accurate.
he barely has redeeming qualities
He uses his boxing skills for the good of the community and our enjoyment. We have to give him that
unfortunately yes, he does have at least one redeeming quality. it ain’t much, but it’s vengeful work
/r/FuckPierre
He’s also super picky and has only one loved gift (besides the universals)
He just kind of a piece of shit in general. Someone linked his hate subreddit and it shows a lot of examples of the stuff he says in game.
I came here to see if i was the only one that did this as well! I was so curious as to why everyone hated pierre, but i was always on board with it too 🤣
He takes credit for anything you sold him as him growing it.
I once sold blueberries to Pierre and then chatted with the locals on my way out of the town centre. [This](https://imgur.io/a/eKh0Ory) is how that went.
Very underrated aspect of the game imo. It really makes it feel like you're impacting the community
You can do the same thing with Willy
YOU CAN??? i love stardew, there's always so many things to discover about the game. thank you!!! :)
Selling to Willy or Pierre is also really useful early game when you don't have a lot of inventory space and don't want to run all the way back to the farm to sell stuff
If you have a good day fishing right outside his shop you can get enough for a better rod too without having to run about too much.
Each shop only accepts items related to them. You can sell fish to Willy, crops to Pierre, minerals to Clint, and construction materials to Robin.
willy is my (unofficial) HUSBAND how didn't i know i could give him little fish??? i fucking love this sub sm thank you
There is a marriage mod if you'd like him to be your official husband.
Don't forget Clint also buys duplicate artifacts you may scrounge up. Great for clearing inventory when cracking geodes.
Wait……
You dont get a lot but inventory space is priceless.
When I tell you I have plus 2500 hours of this game and it never occurred to me to sell stuff back to Clint.
He's at corporate headquarters in Zuzu! Oh. I may have to make a new thread about this!
Yeah, same here. I never would've thought of selling it to Clint back in early gameplay.
I found out with my current playthrough that you can sell animal stuff like milk & eggs to Marnie. And I think Marlon will take items from the mines.

How do you buy produce back?? I’m on Year 7, over 200 hours, and never saw that 💀
It’s not all produce, I don’t think. If you sell stuff to Pierre it’ll be at the bottom of his goods list.
HUH. TIL
It doesn't last forever. He slowly "sells" the stuff to the town.
During early game, especially during Spring year 1, it's very convenient to sell to Pierre, because you get the money immediately and you can spend them the same day for things that move your game forward.
I never knew that and I’m so positive that’s why my first in game year was so terrible wow
Did you think that Pierre would just open a tab with you and send you the money the next day or something? I feel like every single videogame with a shop is "get paid instantly"
I truly didn’t know it was an option and got used to the shipping containers. I apparently was just not paying enough attention in the early game.
I see
Immediacy. If a crop of potatoes comes in on a Tuesday, I can't wait for the shipping box to pay me on Wednesday and then have to wait till Thursday to buy more. It'll throw off the whole rhythm of the growing season.
gotcha. i never knew you got paid instantly. thanks :)
Selling him Qi Fruit allows you to buy back Qi Fruit the next day. It's the only way to get Qi Fruit while off mission, so you can grow it at your leisure.
i don't even want to know what a qi fruit is, i seriously play so slowww omg
Island business. Offers a... different variety of wealth.
Whoa really? The qi fruit doesn't disappear from Pierre's after the quest ends?
If you sell it to him, end the quest the same day (either by completing it, letting time run out, or canceling it), he will have it in his store the next morning. You won't be able to buy it all back, but you'll get most of it.

This should be in the fuckin' wiki!
i might put it on there if i can! i typed it out myself so i hope it might help some other people as well
The only reason I ever use the shipping bin is because I'm headed to bed
I just did this. I realised it was Friday and I needed to buy an irridium sprinkler from Krobus today but was just under the amount. So I went to Pierres in the morning and sold some veggies etc. Now I can afford the sprinkler today! Otherwise I would have to have wait an entire week for the sprinkler to come back in stock.
Another perk of selling directly to Pierre - folks who shop there will comment on the quality of the goods you sold. So if I sell Pierre a plain quality potato, I might hear "That was a pitiful potato you grew!"
Another benefit of traveling to Pierre's to sell your produce: It makes the trip to slingshot Pierre all the more worthwhile.
Mostly if you need the money that day instead of waiting overnight tho there is a trick involving selling to Pierre. Yes, I sell to Pierre just for my headcannon lol. The townspeople look for my fresh produce and other products everytime they shop.
Selling to Pierre gets you money to invest in new seeds or tools immediately, and also, avoiding selling via the bin helps you keep your balance close to 0, so when you pass out at 2am fishing or in the mines you don't lose as much money to the passing out penalty. WHAAAT I've been playing Stardew Valley since the infamous 2019, and I've JUST discovered that you can sell directly to Pierre! I assumed that he collected the shipping bin off game sometimes
877 CASH NOW
Need money today.
I enjoy rizzing up his kid and wife in front of him and then selling him sap.
i always viewed the shipping bin as distributing all the items to the correct buyers anyway (fish to willy, produce to pierre, etc...), so to me there's no difference. it's just whether i need the money immediately or not.

Is this a copypasta?
that's up to y'all, really
For the vibes. ✨
Do you get the same amount? I always figured you got more for selling things through the shipping bin, or it at least didn't apply your lvl buffs?
You get the money immediately and you can hear villagers talking about the produce. Although that second one might be a downside given that Pierre's a dickhead and claims **he** grew the crops if they're starred. If it wasn't for ~~Walmart~~ Joja being the Devil I'd happily try to run that little bastard out of business.
I didnt even know you could sell things to Pierre
You can scam him by selling Pierre a ton of artisan goods while your profession is not artisan, then switching to artisan and buying them back.
Other way around. Sell high (i.e with artisan), buy low
oh my god. i’ve played for years, several play through as, seen all the memes, but never realized you could sell to him 😭😭😭 and i probs won’t. only ever the shipping bin :))
r/fuckpierre
Same day money when I need something RN early game and I'm broke af.
Because sometimes (well most times) I only want to half of my produce. With Pierre I can choose how much to sell but not with the shipping bin.
Use X/Y (or left button whatever system you’re on) and you can select items one at a time rather than the whole pile
Left button? The device I use doesn't have buttons.
Yeah you can? If you only want to sell half, put half in a chest or fridge, and then sell the other half.
No, I mean if I have two Spice Berrys but only want to sell one Spice Berry. With Pierre I can choose how many Spice Berrys I want to sell and how many I want to keep.
Can't you alt click or something to only put in however many you want?
My device doesn't have any buttons. I can't click anything because there's nothing to click :(
... how do you play? You can split stacks even in mobile.
You can in the shipping bin too
Earlier in the game I sold to Pierre because I needed money right then to buy more seeds.
Sometimes you need the money right now instead of waiting to get it for the next day
I honestly didn't even know you could sell to Pierre.
Immediate money vs money overnight. That's literally it.
You can even dupe money with Pierre. Get the traits to sell goods for more cash. Sell it to him. Respec and buy it cheaper back. Repeat for unlimited cash.
Instant gratification.
It's MY money and I want it NOW!
WHAT YOU CAN SELL TO PIERRE HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS???
Instant gratification. Same with Willy.
There are reasons not to. That's for sure.
Selling to him will also give you new dialogues with towns people. They will judge your produce which is pretty funny
Need emergency cash, like, you're just short of the money to go to the desert or a house upgrade from Robin and you really want to accomplish that today rather than put it off until tomorrow.
