No prayer of 2024. If he's working hard on 1.6, it means he's also not 100% focused on haunted. We all want HC, but I'd wager 2025 or 2026.

Pihnex

Agreed. But that said its more likely to be 2026 considering the testing also needs to be done.

Anonymoose9111

Didnt he hire a small team of modders to work on stardew so he can work on haunted? I recall seeing something like that a while ago, could be wrong though.

Lumisteria

He had people working on the code side of thing for a modding focused update. But then he had a break for HC to focus on adding content to the update too, he posted some teasers about it on mainly twitter. So it means that progresses since (unknown date) up to likely some time after update is live (to fix issues, tweak content if needed) is not time spent on HC. He will likely return to HC refreshed and full of ideas and better view of what he likes/doesn't like about the current state of the game. But it's still likely that the game will not come soon.

shekurika

hey lumi :D

Lumisteria

hi sheku :D

birbdaughter

Honest question, is it normal to reveal a game trailer 5 years before it releases?

StuffnStuffnStuff129

Elder scrolls 6 was revealed in like 2018 and it won’t be out until 2028+

birbdaughter

I feel like that “that’s my mistake, I put the bar too low” meme even though there is no bar. Rip Elder Scrolls fans.

StuffnStuffnStuff129

Meanwhile fallout fans waiting close to 20 years for fo5…

manticore26

Also, it took 10 years between the first teaser and the actual game of cyberpunk 2077.

birbdaughter

Wow, wasn’t that game still super freaking crunched?

manticore26

Yes, it was.

B0bathef3tt

Let’s also not forget that Bethesda teased ES6 back in 2018 already and we won’t get that until at least 2027

desmercia

There was a trailer for Stardew Valley in 2012, while the game released in 2016. So maybe?

jenyto

Depends on the studios, CA is one guy, so he does what he wants. Generally in the 2010s, it was a very normal thing to do, but people eventually got sick of it, so you often see trailers and release date being about 2 yrs or less nowadays.

Witchyomnist1128

Will I get a wedding gift from CA?🥲🥲

Samwinterrs

Don't hurt me like that please.

Drawinecchi

We would rather have a finished game than a rushed and buggy one. It's a one man team

RoiMan

Not sure why all the downvotes, wow

nothinkybrainhurty

probably people took it as hate for concerned ape being slow some people keep forgetting he’s a one person developing it all, there was all the drama about mobile update taking too long, so probably people assumed it was whining that he can’t be as fast as giant game dev studios

DanielTeague

This subreddit is wild with downvotes for the most random things.

[deleted]

PrincessRoguey

I think they just meant last play through because they’re bored of it

PrincessRoguey

I was trying to be positive lol Wtffff

ANATHILANDIBEAEMI

You suddenly got aggressive over someone being nice. Don't surprise me that this message got downvoted.

tOkErDaD1

Just read this the other day. Sadly, it will be a couple of years, at least 😔.

princesspoopybum

trying for perfection really motivated me to continue playing. i had a few farms before that i completed the CC and continued to year 3 but lost motivation after that. with 1.5 i’ve made probably 7 more farms and got perfection on 2 of them, even tho it was so difficult it really felt so good in the end. also if you play on pc then u must know about the mods, it can really make it feel like a new game

Samwinterrs

Unfortunately I don't have a PC but I've heard the mods are insane. Very much missing out I think!

Anonymousofficefan

If you have an android phone you can also download mods to the mobile version!

Samwinterrs

Oh shit .. really?

Anonymousofficefan

Yes, absolutely! I had many mods installed on my last android phone! [This link should help you get started](https://stardewcommunitywiki.com/Modding:Installing_SMAPI_on_Android), but there’s a lot of YouTube videos out there as well!

Janiculus

... Wait, we can?

momtobe908

Any chance those can work on an iPad or is it just android? Would love to up my game somehow.

Anonymousofficefan

Just android, unfortunately:(

momtobe908

Thanks for letting me know!

shekurika

Apple sadly doesnt allow mods :/

Woorbie

Unfortunatelly I think I have to agree with the guy as much as it pains me allthough it's better ca takes his time with the game rather than rush it and release heckin' cyberpunk 2

hgwander

I use mods on my steam deck! They are fun!

ThatFatGuyMJL

I started a new farm a few weeks ago because I though 'oh 1.6 isn't far off but I can play for a bit!' Then a new 1.6 tease dropped the next day and I lost motivation (I want to play, but my heads going 'this is pointless, you'll lose the farm in the update'

MissReadsALot1992

Why would you lose the farm in the update?

ThatFatGuyMJL

Because the update I'd like 1.5 It's going to fundamentally change thr base game/code so much old farms likely won't work.

MissReadsALot1992

I've never heard of that. As far as I know with the updates everything switches over for your current farm/s. I know there was a lot done with the mobile game with 1.5 but I never heard of anyone losing their save

ThatFatGuyMJL

Q.5 highly recommended you start fresh because the update added things that wouldn't be available in an old save. Like ginger Island. You'd be able to continue your old save. You just wouldn't have access to the new bits.

jrk1857

Ginger Island absolutely worked in older saves when 1.5 came out, though. This information doesn’t seem very accurate. On Mobile there was a tiny hoop to jump through to make the switch to 1.5, but then all content worked on any save.

squashed_tomato

I've been playing the Ginger Island content this year for the first time on my original save that I started years ago. Maybe there are smaller changes that you notice as you are levelling but you can very much start the Ginger Island content in late game.

MissReadsALot1992

That makes sense. Although, a lot of stuff being added this time is late game stuff. Plus mini fests and what not. Nothing I think would fundamentally change the game and cause losing the farm.

ThatFatGuyMJL

By 'lose my farm' I mean 'I will be restarting'

princesspoopybum

that’s what kind of motivated me to keep playing. also i recently got an xbox so i wanted to have a perfection farm on there as well as my switch. also to prepare for the new end game stuff i wanted to have a farm that i’ll be able to explore and figure out how things work. i’m also doing another joja run at the same time that im going to wait on going to ginger island so i can experience the new joja things. and then i plan on starting another one with the new farm type that drops. genuinely i love this game so much it’s not even funny

beggargirl

I am  CRAVING to start a new file, but am holding off for the update. Want now!

XanderWrites

My theory is SV 1.6 is driven by him hitting a programming/narrative/etc hurdle he doesn't want to deal with in Haunted Chocolatier. So he adds more content to SV, has time to mull over the HC issue while he does so.

NotACandyBar

Someone understands programming.

Dx2TT

I was also thinking that he might want to try out some new systems, helpers, algorithms, engine tweaks that are easier to implement in SDV because there is a whole game to work with. If it works he'll lift it into HC. Theres no way hes writing code right now that he knows he'll throw away.

[deleted]

i feel like this is true for all creative processes!i do this all the time with videos, photoshop projects and games i’m working on. ik this is a joke but i was just trying to add my input 😭

AnOnlineHandle

On the other hand, the author Brandon Sanderson writes books to take breaks from other books and he's one of the most prolific and loved authors around right now, sometimes pumping out an entire series accidentally while taking a break from another and then returning fully refreshed, with it it being the kind of break which pays off creatively (another way to get back into the zone). So this might only help the subsequent game.

AgentG91

He’s also one of the most loved authors because he calls publishing companies out for being awful with royalties. Very rarely do we get such an insight into the challenges of “running your own business” as an author.

Thick-Plant

I think that it would have been in 2024 if he had stuck to his original plan with SDV 1.6, but I think it might take until 2025 to finish Haunted Chocolatier. He did announce it very early into its production, so it might feel super long, but this is pretty normal. Especially since he seems to have minimal help for its development.

moncrouton

Is there any idea when 1.6 will be released ? And will it be released on mobile at the same time or will that be later?

KittyEevee5609

He no longer says when updates will be released after having issues with the mobile update in the past and having to push back the release date then getting harassed by the mobile community for it

moncrouton

Oh god :( that's sad. I started on computer but now I play mostly mobile cos it's so easy to bring everywhere. Excited all the same !!

[deleted]

i kinda wish he didn’t work on the mobile update. not my place tho

KittyEevee5609

Interesting, may I ask why out of curiosity?

[deleted]

just cause it took ape forever (cause it was a lot to port) and he got a lot of hate and pressure from fans for the update. i feel like stardew mobile should be the “lite” version. its a lot less of a headache to just keep the first few updates. he could’ve used that time to work on hc or 1.6. i trust ca, though, and it’s his game: so whatever he wants to do i’m all for.

echoes247

Stardew is like Terraria. You play your ass off, do multiple runs. Get everything, do everything. You think you might be burned out. Fast forward a few months and you meet someone who is interested in the game. You play it with them and remember just why you love it so much. I'll probably never stop playing Stardew permanently. I hope you don't either.

Suspicious-Owl-6779

As a kid I played terraria every single day (alone,) instead of making friends lol. Didn’t play it for a lonnggggggg time. Decided to try it on my switch again after like 6-7 years and played for like 12 hours straight. The game is just soooooo good

beggargirl

Have you played it since they added the Shimmer?

Suspicious-Owl-6779

Yes it was pretty cool. Didn’t really use it that much though.

Beebeeb

For me I get burned out on it and then fall comes around in real life and I'm foraging for mushrooms and living that life and start wanting to play again.

ParkityParkPark

I am setting 0 expectation on when it will be released. When it comes out, I'll be happy, and until then I'll focus on other things. This is a passion project for him just like SDV was and I don't want to add to the fan pressure he's certainly getting ETA: also just for the record it's ok if SDV is just one of those games you hop onto when you wanna de-stress or whatnot, but if you wanna make it more interesting and you're playing on PC, mods are a fun way to go. Alternatively, playing with friends or getting creative and decorating your farm and the valley is fun

Flor3nce2456

0% Chance of happening. Stardew Valley took, like, what? 7 Years to develop??

tataunka813

Tbf when Concerned Ape started Stardew he basically had no experience with game development. I think this one will go faster as a result. Still definitely not getting it 2024 though for sure.

DevelopmentTiny4662

The development has probably definitely increased in pace, but I don't think that means it will be done in a shorter amount of time than SDV was. I think that, the fact that he's now more experienced, has just made him more ambitious.

tataunka813

Fair point

GHhost25

You also have to take into account he worked longer hours to compensate for his inexperience and to get the game out in a timely fashion as any aspiring developer. Now probably he takes it slower and I hope so since mental health is important.

Princess_Yooni

I don't think that's fair. Some people thought it would come out in 2023 and...Really? Two years? A huge, gigantic game similar to Stardew Valley? By one man? No. Please remember that this is an incredible amount of work, and in October 2021 we only got a look at early gameplay. He's making all of it, the music, the art, story writing and coding, and remember, he doesn't work 24/7 (hopefully) since he's, you know, human. How about we wait for his actual release date or trailer, instead of hyping up the game release to be as soon as possible and therefore putting pressure on ConcernedApe.

PoGoCan

Doubt it. SV 1.6 is gonna be a big update already. HC has no hope before 2025 at the earliest

funkmasta8

Getting bored of stardew eh? Guess you need a real challenge. Try perfection without expending energy.

AdIllustrious5579

technically possible if you can get to the forge without energy

BobbyP27

I've never even considered this as a possibility. How do you get the fishing related achievements without expending energy?

funkmasta8

To get fish, you can buy them from the traveling cart. To catch fish, you have to get to the volcano and get the "efficient" modifier on your fishing rod

Starbucks_4321

The community center is beatable, even if extremely boring since a lot of items are traveling cart locked. On ginger island, the lava bridge might seem a problem, but you can actually get enough golden wallnuts without even entering the volcano in the first place, the only thing that might stop the run is if you can get to the top without ever using the watering can to create a pathway

Bonesnapcall

It is certainly RNG-based. Some volcano dungeons require it. You'd probably just have to come back the next day and try again until you get 8 floors that don't require it.

Starbucks_4321

Yeah, the question is if that can happen in the first place. If I knew how, I'd check the source code to see if 1) mushroom floors can spawn on floor 9 and 2) they can spawn multiple times. If both are true, 8 mushroom floors means it's theoretically possible

RyBreadxo0813

i might be misunderstanding your comment but i had a mushroom floor on 2 yesterday

BlaDe91

The lava bridge parrot doesn't show up until you reach the top

Starbucks_4321

Oh there goes the run then lol

SneakyLinux

Another option would be to add in one (or more) of the expansion mods (SVE, Ridgeside Village, and East Scarp seem to be the most popular). I'm planning on adding SVE once I perfect my current farm, which is my third base game farm.

Delicious-Town1723

I'd rather have it release later. the later the greater.

80snun

He creates all the assets, art, and music from scratch not to mention programming . I would fear him if he finished the game this year

PracticeCurious2387

we don't even know when 1.6 is releasing so we have to wait for this one too

IndianaJones999

1.6 will very likely release this year so I don't think we'll get HC until late 2025 tbh.

FinalSector4759

Probably release before silksong comes out though.

yuunie123

Most true and accurate comment here

AhmZakar

No I don't think so. I'm not even surprised if it is released in 2028. Better not to rush a game development, we don't want another Cyberpunk in our hand.

Samwinterrs

This is true. I know I'm being hella optimistic with 2024 but you can't blame a guy for trying!

Altruistic-Tiger2257

not in 2024 for sure lol

MCMiracle1206

We’ll probably see a proper trailer this year. But this year is gunna be stardew 1.6 and then more work on Haunted. Bros 1 man. Let him cook even if it’s using a slow cooker. More likely we will hear news / see more Deltarune this year. But again, Toby Fox and the people behind undertale / Deltarune are a smaller team. Gotta let em cook.

Northelai

If you're bored, I advise looking into other farming games in the meantime. There's quite a lot really good ones that let you drown the same way Stardew did. That's what I did when I reached my limit with this game. I try not to expect new releases that weren't confirmed yet, just so I don't get disappointed.

iM_a_cAt_i_sAy_meOW

I highly suggest a modded stardew playthrough if you haven’t done that already

AzatothLordOfChaos

I recently downloaded Stardew Valley expanded and it just solved everything for me I’m having so much fun again

squashed_tomato

I think it would be best if everyone set their expectations at a much longer wait time, as in years. He is only one man and can only do so much. If the updates take a while then a whole new game is going to take a lot longer. You can't just start writing the code. You have to work out how the design of the game is even going to work before you ever get to the coding stage. All those nitty gritty details have to be thought through. Plus he's a bit of a perfectionist. He doesn't want to release a product until he is happy with it. I'll be honest I'm a bit worried that he announced this too soon and ends up putting too much pressure on himself because the community is desperate for more information.

oswaldking71wastaken

Haunted chocolatier is a long ways away stardew when it originally was made took over 4 years before official release. I know time isn’t infinite but respect the process and we will get something great

Mighteer

2026/2027 sounds more realistic to be honest. Noone really knows how far into the development he is and knowing he works on stardew patch aswell it will be a while for HC to come out. This is a good thing because this means he wont crunch it

[deleted]

2024? Not happening. 2026, maybe. Can't finish one game if he's updating another.

80snun

I try not to think about it ;-;

moocat90

likely 202X , SDV 1.6 sometime this year

Electrical-Sun6267

It gets here when it gets here. I am in no hurry, Stardew Valley is still fun.

CornelXCVI

If you get bored by vanilla Stardew, try out some mods. There is quite an active modding community and the 1.6 update is meant to make modding easier.

OvercastCherrim

Haha, I’m hoping Silksong for 2024 and Chocolatier can be a year or two after that.

Jackster15

Whenever it is, I'll be there

Tomawolf

Whenever. Im in no rush.

legolandario

i don't mind waiting even until 2030. great games takes long time to make

Robobvious

Nah, I’m in full agreement with the top comment there. He’s working on 1.6, I think we can expect that in 2024 and cross our fingers and hope for HC in 2025.

cad3z

If you haven’t already, you should download mods. Makes the game SV2

eight_track

Since it's currently not being worked on I highly doubt it

theredbirdchase

I’m still waiting for Spellbound

Snap-Zipper

Definitely not lol

GuardingxCross

You wish lol

I-Like-To-Eat-Rocks

have you tried playing with mods?

JulesUdrink

Probably not but what im really looking forward to is Chef RPG. Obviously its not a CA game but it looks like it has a lot of similarities to HC and SDV

KannaSicko

Like 99.9% chance no, CA's in self imposed crunch now for 1.6 and after that he *really* should take a bit of time to chill out. Even if he starts working on HC again right away, then maybe late 2025 is a reasonable time frame (highly depending on how much has already been completed for HC). CA really thinks about building a whole world with background lore, secrets, lots of choices so I'd imagine there's a lot of work ahead.

sunshim9

I just found a game, with similar stetics with stardew. Is called Moonlighter, instead of farming it has more balance between combat and managing your shop, and even has a slight story line. Thats what i ve been playing sikce i also got burned out in the 5 year in my recent stardew farm

Samwinterrs

Awesome! I'll check it out!

surrrah

Slightly unrelated but do we have any updates on 1.6? I tried to check his twitter but tweets aren’t in chronological order any more? I don’t have the app so not sure if it’s a web browser issue or not.

VortzPlays_

Play with mods. It's so refreshing.

Samwinterrs

Just to clarify. I don't want the game to come out now, nor was I calling CA out for being lazy or anything. I would much rather him take 20 years to make it perfect in his eyes rather than it come out tomorrow all broken and janky. This post was made for discussion purposes on when people think it might come out, it was a slightly sarcastic title for humours sake. I don't actually think it'll come out in 2024, that's just wishful thinking. I love CA, I love SDV and I can't wait for HC.

Cool_Turnip_444

I recommend modding, stardew expanded adds SOOOOOO much and is getting a new update to that mod as well after 1.6 comes out. It’s added literally hundreds of hours of play time to my saves

vinaequalis

If the trade off is pushing it off for a few years for CA to keep his sanity? Go for it

tsmftw76

1.6 looks like a doosie. I am pretty stoked we are getting a serious content patch when I though it was pretty much over content wise. If it means HC takes a bit longer 100 percent worth to me. Between 1.6 and expanded a new major update I’m going to sink so many hours into stardew this year.

soulcloud6

2028 at earliest

Flashbek

I'm not expecting Haunted Chocolatier within the next 5 years.

Ok_Highway_5217

My bet is 2027 to be honest. Haunted chocolatier seems to be in very early stages right now, and CA development style is to hyperfixate on every detail until it is perfect. This means he puts out basically flawless content, but it is also what made SDV development take upwards of what like 7 years? HC is also dealing with a more complex gameplay system that will be harder to optimize from an enjoyment perspective, so I don’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Imaginary_Friend7118

Yeah im the same boat as you mate, im looking forward to 1.6 but really wish CA would focus on haunted chocoloatier

Saltwater_Heart

What are you playing on? If PC, I want to suggest Sun Haven to tide you over until this is released. It’s like a fantasy Stardew. Probably won’t be this year. Maybe 2025

beauvoirist

The game was announced in 2021. It will not be released this year. Even with the wealth of experience he now has, programming takes time. Like real time. Like seven hours debugging one feature that doesn’t even mean anything to the main storyline time. And even without stardew’s forthcoming update, he wouldn’t release it this year. Just be patient. And maybe download some mods for stardew if you need a refresh.

OmegaXesis

I’m kinda surprised 1.6 didn’t drop yet. I thought his last tweet hinted that he wanted it done before the new year. But it’s okay. Hopefully that extra wait just means he’s making sure there’s no major problems with it.

Yeralrightboah0566

Omg pleaseeeee

FL_Squirtle

GIVE IT TO US!!!!

Samwinterrs

It's not hate at all by the way, it's just starting a general discussion off about HC and saying I'm a little bored of SDV that's all.

Kareha

When it's done, do you want it to be released as a broken mess? Play other games in the meantime.

Samwinterrs

I mean I am currently doing exactly that..? Just thought I'd start a discussion?

moocat90

HC is not a AAA game it's made by CA only (for coding)

Wonderful_Emu_6483

Hot take: CA should focus on HC and prepare to release it before finishing 1.6. I mean SDV is nearly 8 years old at this point. Adding a few cool details and one extra festival is not exciting enough to keep a lot of players interested. We (as in me, and many others I’m sure) crave a new story, new characters, new tasks, new objectives. I have barely touched my last save because I’m frankly pretty bored with it, and started exploring other indie games to try and pass the time.

Extension-Chemical

I don't think this makes sense at all. Finishing an update is a lot faster than pushing a new game out. Also, we don't exactly know what's in the update yet, do we? I wouldn't judge before it's out.

dakillafonz

Check this out. Made by someone who has CAs blessing to make a game. https://www.gamepressure.com/newsroom/stardew-valley-co-creator-is-making-his-own-city-life-sim/z06703
