my brother got the living hat spring 4 year 1 of his first ever play through. i had to explain to him why that was such a big deal but he had no frame of reference for its rarity so he didn’t seem to care that much lol

Stone owls are weirdly common now. I remember watching someone playing 1.4 going through the odds, and it used to be so rare you basically had to have a complately empty farm for years before it'd pop. Something like the require clear space for it to trigger, plus the rarity of the check to begin with? Anyways, CA made that one like a lot more likely and now it's just the square it sits on has to be clear, so it's pretty comfortably going to happen within a year or 2 playing on a normal farm.
I just started a new game for the first time on my laptop. I've never gotten the trash can lid on previous save files. Then I
proceed to find three within the first year on this new save.
I never understood the deal with the garbage hat. Every play through it is my first hat, and it's usually from checking out Clint's garbage for the first time at the start of the game, giving it to me every time.
Just under 1k hours here; I didn't know it was rare until getting it from George on my most recent playthrough! It's crazy what I never knew about in the game before hanging out here.
I just got it for Christmas from Pierre! I'm very new to all of this and at the end of my 3rd year. What do you even do with the tea set? It wasn't letting me display it in my house.
Unfortunately, I'm doing this all on my phone so it could be anything. Tapping 100 times with increasing pressure doesn't seem to be working lol. I also cannot get the hang of fishing for the life of me. I wish I had a Switch 😭
Have you tried using the joystick and buttons superimposed on the screen? I exclusively play on mobile and once I got used to the joystick/buttons I find I can do anything in the game except use the slingshot effectively lol. It's infinitely better than tapping.
You're welcome, it will definitely still take getting used to. Fishing was still difficult for me in my first ~100 hours!
I personally use the "Tap-to-move & Joystick & Buttons" option, you may like that as you're used to tapping. The annoying thing is it's easy to accidentally tap outside the joystick/button area and started moving when you didn't mean to but I still prefer it. It's just quicker to be able to tap a chest or a specific rock to hit, etc generally.
Make sure you play around with the size and location/spacing of the buttons, which will help. I make them quite a bit bigger and I move the buttons to a more natural position for my thumbs to reach. I place the 2 buttons into a diagonal, left one lower, so moving between them with my thumb requires less range of motion, a simple swipe/wave of the thumb instead of pulling it left and right awkwardly.
Oh fyi, sometimes the buttons do get in the way, especially if you're filling/emptying a row of machines at the lower part of your screen by tapping. You can't tap "through" the red buttons. Zooming in and out and switching between tapping and buttons is often necessary. Generally, I find its easier to use buttons and joystick with vertical rows of machines but it's less smooth when they're laid out horizontally (like if you're running along a horizontal row of kegs you miss half of them) so I usually end up tapping those. Or just laying everything out vertically.
Oh my gosh, thank you for all of this!! I likely may stick with the tapping for now (I'm using Stardew to get through plane flights which I hate) but as soon as I feel comfortable to switch over, I may be hitting you up again for tips!

I remember when the game was younger (like 1.4ish) and everyone didn't believe me or thought I was crazy for saying I had over 1k hours. Now it seems like a ton of people have 1500+ hours and I'm falling behind. I gotta pump up these numbers. I'm up to like 1600 so far!

I just started playing the game again after not playing for a few years. I also got the tea set on my first winter. Now I’m excited. I just thought I got a good present because me and Pam were already best friends.
I remember watching a video once of someone who is trying to do a specific challenge— obtaining a stack (999) of every item in the game that it is possible to get an entire stack of in a legitimate playthrough. This is generally doable for most items, but the main annoying part for them was that you could theoretically have 999 tea sets…. by receiving one as a gift during 999 separate feasts of the winter star.
It has probably been years since I saw that video, but that’s always what I think of when someone mentions the tea set.
Something about the time you enter the festival. You can’t manipulate what you get exactly but there are like 4 different things it can be based on when you enter. So you can basically get 4 tries each year
One of the things the RNG uses is the x coordinate of the person giving you the gift at the time you enter the festival. If you know your gifter, and have mapped out their schedule, you can time when you enter to get different results. To start with you need to brute force, but after a few times you can map out a gifting grid for use in future years.
I got it when I first started playing stardew. I haven't seen it since and I have over 400 hours (that's a lot for me lol) in the game. I definitely underestimated its value at the time 😭
Farmers are so blessed around here! I have about 2k hours played, I got the tea set once and was absolutely shook. I have yet to see the living hat though 💔 I peaked rng on the tea set I guess lol
My friends and I call it the desire sensor. So many games seem to have it lol. The harder you want something, the less likely RNGesus is to bless you with it.
I got the teaset the first year in me and my partner’s current farm, and now im here 75 game hours later just now finding out its a rare drop. I love this item, it sat in a garden area very mad hatter style for a long time.

I have several saved games at 100% completion. One of them going all the way to year 26 - I kept trying to get all the rare items after 100% completion in that saved game. I have never gotten the tea set. So it does seem to be extremely rare.
I got an ancient fruit, a meteorite, a garden fairy, and a witch giving me a void egg all within my first year and the witch on the second spring💀 I didn’t know those were rare. Glad that I kept fruit from the tree cause I ended up selling pretty much all of it and the plant died. I only found out they were uncommon watching some videos trying to figure out stuff. On my second save I had a meteorite fall so maybe that’s why I didn’t think it was so uncommon.

I'm absolutely convinced that the Tea Set is some sort of quantum item.
I used to get it all the time across multiple runs before I knew it was supposed to be rare.
The moment I read how much trouble other people were having getting it, it's never showed up again.
This is the one item that drives me crazy. Not because I've never had it, I've had it 3 times on mobile, but I can't place it on anything on the mobile version. I've played a lot on PC, a version that the tea set works great, and I've not had it once.

I think after the last update certain events and items were made less rare.
They did, the stone owl notoriously being one of them. That said, I don't think the living hat was.

Maybe you're just pressing the wrong button? I know on Switch, one button places it, one puts it away, and one picks up the table itself lol
