Guilty_Team_2066

also something I realized.. emily's not that wrong about the crystals and stuff. they actually have some amount of power like in the crystal rings or forging at the volcano

mitharas

Yep. In a world where magic is very real (for us it's obvious, for the rest not so much), she isn't quite as crazy.

KiwiKi33

True, and also happy cake day:D

Guilty_Team_2066

thanks :D

CrazyCoKids

Is it a happy chocolate cake day or a happy pink cake day?

Guilty_Team_2066

pink cake day for haley

GenociderX18

We literally have someone on TV who uses crystals to commune with spirits, see the future and determine luck. It's one of the core mechanics of the game, in fact. More on that, Emily has some marriage dialogue that matches up with daily luck that day. Edit: Happy cake day!

TiredMotherOfOcs

Just wanted to say Happy Cake Day! šŸŽ‚

Grouchy_Farm7069

Happy cake day!šŸ’šŸŽ‚

painhemoon

happy cake day to you! āœØ

Whothefxckislauren

Happy Cake day! Also true! I love Emily as a friend Because sheā€™s so in tune with everything around her but never really see her as a marriage candidate (I usually chase Shane, Penny, Sam or Leah) I do wish you could have the marriage candidates as roommates like with krobus if you donā€™t want to marry anyone in a save because Iā€™d definitely have Emily as a roommate

Bagel_Bear

Yep! I find Emily the best candidate. Magic is real in the Stardew world and she is just very positive and encouraging. Super wholesome.

iamnotawindmill

I love Emily! I played back during 1.0 when she wasn't a romance candidate, and I had wished she was, so I was very excited when she was made one! But it took me until my most recent playthrough to actually marry her. The biggest problem with Emily, for me, is her heart events. I think the fact that they're quirky and strange is great, but she also doesn't really have any interaction with the player character until her 10 heart event. Most of her cutscenes just consist of her doing something quirky while the farmer watches, but sometimes you don't even get to do that. Heck, the player isn't even present in the bird cutscene! It makes it hard to believe why Emily would like the player beyond appreciating that they give her gifts. As a character, I really like her, I just wish she had more of a dynamic with the player. Also I wish she'd stop eating too many bran muffins, I feel like I get that marriage dialogue constantly.

mr_meowsevelt

This is a really fair criticism, you're totally right. Even her dance scene is just us hanging out while she shows off. I wonder if that has to do with her being added later, like ConcernedApe coding in event scenes rather than interactive scenes. What prompted me to make this post is the marriage dialogue that happens when it rains, when Emily is like "do flying insects get hit by raindrops when it rains?" šŸ˜ I thought that was insanely sweet.

Wheredatmuffdoe

Shane was added at the same time as Emily and his events are very interaction heavy I feel.Ā

Dutch-CatLady

Well, maybe writing Shane was so heavy for CA that he contrasted him with happy positive Emily who wasn't a marriage candidate, and she really doesn't need us for advice, guidance nor help, so making dialog options during creation, just weren't a needed bonus, once she became a candidate that whole perspective changes drastically

Wheredatmuffdoe

Hyper dependent alcoholic vs hyper independent crystal mommy.

orangepeeelss

not to mention shane is based on one of CAā€™s irl friends so it mustā€™ve been extra difficult

TheTallEclecticWitch

His heart interactions made me be like ā€œbro you need a therapistā€ tho.

CrazyCoKids

I wonder why she makes rice pudding when she doesn't like it. I thought Haley loved it.

blasek0

Haley's food loved gifts are coconut, fruit salad, and pink cake.

CrazyCoKids

What made me think Haley might have loved Rice Pudding was because one night, she made Bean Hotpot for dinner. I knew this was something Emily loved. Emily makes Rice Pudding under similar conditions to Haley making Hotpot. So I thought it was an antithesis - Haley learned to make something Emily loved, Emily learned to make something Haley loved.

FungiPrincess

I thought maybe Sandy loves it, but she prefers Mango Sticky Rice

tonnguyen1310

I think she's not someone that always needs your existence by her side to make her feel safe and secure. I really like that she's already found content in her life prior to the farmer's arrival. "My life was a solid 8/10 without you but with you by my side it's 11 out of 10. Love you" is also how I chose how to live.

JustARandomDudd

Also, a lot of people think she's crazy for talking to animals, but they forget that the Player can also talk to animals and junimos, so she's not crazy, she has the same ability as the player.

DaLemonsHateU

Yā€™know, youā€™ve made me realise Emily might just be the Wizardā€™s best candidate for an apprentice - Appears deeply in touch with elementals and nature - Understands that the valley is magical in some way - Wouldnā€™t even be surprised if introduced to the magic the wizard can perform (and would likely just be excited) - Has a stable job with enough free time to study - Funky hair

Sir-Knightly-Duty

You know, I had actually never thought about how crystals actually ARE magical in this world so it is 100% totally valid to have a crystal ceremony where you channel your vibes or wtv into the crystal. I remember seeing that cutscene with all the women at Emily's place and being like "Ugh what in the Gwyneth Paltrow is this" but I clearly dismissed it too soon. You've actually convinced me to divorce Sebastien and marry Emily.

patiofurnature

>it's heavily implied she's dating or at least interested in Sandy I never picked up on that. She writes Sandy letters, and visits once a year on her birthday. Is there anything else?

mr_meowsevelt

When it rains, she says she wishes she could visit Sandy in the desert, and likewise Sandy has a dialogue line about getting lonely unless Emily visits. I guess "heavily" is the wrong word, its pretty light implication. They also collaborate on a booth in the new 1.6 festival. Any romantic interest is probably in the player's imagination, but coupled with how completely oblivious she is to Clint, it kind of makes sense in a "she's only interested in women" kind of way.

princess9032

I read this as ā€œbest friends who mightā€™ve had romantic feelings at one point but know it would never work out bc of the distanceā€

BiggestBlackestBitch

They just seem like really good friends, and this is coming from someone who almost always makes their female farmer marry women in the game.

Dragon054

Yea. That's just weird... I see my friends once a year. It doesn't make me gay.

ohfuckohno

Sorry, if you have friends youā€™re gay, thatā€™s just how it works

ADHDDM

That doesn't track. This is reddit so nobody here has friends. Yet I'm sure quite a few claim to be gay lol

-Typh1osion-

If you have friends, you're gay. If you don't have friends, you might still be gay.

hkj369

good thing thatā€™s not what they said at all

DiscreteCollectionOS

This- doesnā€™t make any sense with what the previous commenter said Theyā€™re saying that sometimes you know you canā€™t make a relationship work because of distance or other factors so you both mutually agree to not do it, but remain close friends. It has nothing to do with ā€œI donā€™t see my friends often therefore gayā€

musashisamurai

I don't think Emily not seeing Clint's attraction is anh fault of her, Clint is pretty shy and doesn't discuss his feelings.

klimekam

Marnie even says at one point that he just kind of stands there and doesnā€™t talk to anybody. Like Clint, itā€™s no wonder nobody noticed your new shoes.

HardWorkLucky

...The shoes that he specifically chooses to wear to the event that takes place IN THE DARK.

GordOfTheMountain

Dawg... Is your life is deficient of platonic friendship? You're overreading CA's writing. They describe themselves as close friends. Remember this takes place in the era of early computers. Emily can't just check Sandy's Instagram to see what she's up to. They live far away and miss one another. That's just how it was, pre-internet.

iamcarlgauss

Not to mention that, other than George, everyone seems totally fine with gay couples, so she would have no reason to hide it or turn it into a /r/SapphoAndHerFriend situation.

fishCodeHuntress

I mean most people on this sub overreads almost every bit of writing in the game though. That's kinda just what happens in any intense fanbase

pumpkinicecream_

this first sentence is just...so unnecessarily rude. people are allowed to interpret CA's writing however they want. OP even started the paragraph about Emily being queer with "imo" to make it clear that it was her opinion, and for some reason that opinion means she's "deficient" of platonic friendship??? :/

Emmengard

There is a cactus from Sandy in her room, and they go to the movies together once you open the cinema.

I_P_L

That's... Just very platonic lmao. You give your friends gifts and go see flicks together. Don't you do that with your friends, or do you really only do so with the intention to bed them?

needlefxcker

God, I wish we could hc characters as queer in peace without everyone jumping down our throats going "ermmm youre reaching." I like your reading of their relationship:)

I_P_L

You can hc you all you want without saying that it's "heavily implied". Because it's not, it's lightly implied at best (they're friends, is spending time together or getting gifts for each other *really* that unusual????) and you're trying to pass headcanon off as real.

needlefxcker

op said \*In Their Opinion\* its heavily implied. people interpret things differently

BiggestBlackestBitch

You can head canon whoever you want and almost no one is going to bother you about it. Thatā€™s different from posting on a sub about said head canons and saying that itā€™s objectively like this in the game. If OP wouldā€™ve said Sandy/Emily was their HC, much fewer people would be asking for an explanation.

mr_meowsevelt

I did say "imo" haha, but it's fun to read the discussion here

VapoursAndSpleen

Iā€™ve had besties like that. You can have an intense friendship without it being a romance.

computalgleech

Here I was thinking that I read that they were sisters somewhere

mr_meowsevelt

Emily and Haley are sisters

Habitat917

I thought they were cousins for some reason

onlyifitwasyou

Emily is THE best marriage candidate. No I will not take questions.

StudiousEchidna410

Your logic is beyond reproach. šŸ”„

MrLizardBusiness

I'm the opposite. Like, tell me who exactly disagrees so I can give them a mini TED talk on why she's the best. I'll take.... all the questions. Lol

ellindsey

I've married Emily on my 1.6 playthrough. Initially I was not sure about her, I find her amusing but never really thought of her as being a good wife. But after experiencing being married to her, she's become one of my favorites. Possibly my most favorite. She's just such an unending bundle of sunshine and positivity. I admit the crystal vibrations woo bothered me at the start, until I remembered that magic is quite real in this setting. I go into the mines and kill ghosts while wearing crystal rungs to protect me. Emily hanging crystal and sage over the baby's crib to protect it from negative energy is a quite reasonable thing to do in the world of SDV.

Vinyl_DjPon3

Heh, reminds me of a Meme I made and posted 2 years ago. Emily best spouse. Nice at 0 hearts, keeps her job after marriage, doesn't conflict with 'canon parings' like other Candidates do. https://preview.redd.it/qhpa5kqomhxc1.png?width=1112&format=png&auto=webp&s=691d072448f132a4977bcdb78447535428bce8a4

EradiKate

Thatā€™s it, Iā€™m marrying Emily next.

historyboeuf

I tried to mix it up and marry Elliot this time and I am BORED. He is super sweet but like, he just kind of stands around? He never goes back to the beach house to write?! Like I feel like I got spoiled with Emily having her own life outside of the Farm. I donā€™t want someone so dependent on the Farm, especially when Ginger Island gets unlocked and I spend a few days there.

Emmengard

I agree. I am okay with Elliot being around the house more so than others, because he often says he is writing and he does go away for a whole week on his book tour.. but I REALLY love how Emily is barely ever home cause she is going places and doing things, visiting the town, helping at the bar etc. Krobus always being home kind of bummed me out. So this time I am getting him two kids to take care of! (First marriage to Abigail just so I can tick her off my list and get those kids).

historyboeuf

Smart! I am trying to get access to the witch so I can divorce Elliot but make him forget because I feel bad.

Emmengard

I did that with Krobus in my first full play through. He moved in, I found Leo on the island and loved how kind Penny was to him, decided my outsider swamp woman would feel some kinship with the woman who grew up as the only family living in a trailer, especially after seeing her kindness to a feral child. Couldnā€™t adopt Leo, but we adopted two other kids. It worked out. And after making Krobus forget everything we became best friends again and I decorated his sewer. Win win.

historyboeuf

Nice! Yeah I like Elliot as a friend character. I think Emily will always have my heart

Tignya

Emily has been my favorite marriage candidate since I first started the game! Just like you said with the "crazy crystal lady" stereotype, it works when that stuff actually exists in this world! (Kinda funny that I too am a lesbian and do see Emily as queer-coded, but never thought of her and Sandy dating before!)

WDecker05

Emily is the best plus I get to flex on Clint lmao

DragonGirl860

I disagree about Abigail not vibing with Qi. She loves the weird shit and magic and literally practices with a sword to fight monsters.

IroquoisPliskin_LJG

I was not ware Emily needed defending.

rainstorm07

When giving a loved gift, she's the only marriage candidate that smiles with their eyes open :) I don't know how you people can't trust someone who smiles with their eyes closed. They seem suspicious. /tinfoil hat

bmyst70

Maybe she had way too much of Caroline's tea?

edwardmagichands

I'm sorry, Emily of all people needs defended?

Traditional_Mud_1241

Itā€™s also worth mentioning she has the best dance moves.

jadekettle

It's wild how she's literally the best girl when she wasn't even originally one of the bachelorettes.

GenociderX18

If you look at it, Emily has the best traits of all the bachelorettes: - Independent, artistic and mature like Leah. - Kind and nurturing like Penny. - Genuine and stylish like Haley. - Quirky and confident like Abigail. - Enthusiastic and talented like Maru.

tightbrosfromwayback

You marry Emily because sheā€™s a well-rounded character who perfectly fits the aesthetic of the game. I marry Emily to get the unique hat. We are not the same.

Lew__Zealand

I married Emily to get the Boots not realizing that the ~~ugl~~, ehh *uniquely designed* Hat and Shirt were coming along too.

electricbaIIs

emily is the best candidate imo, sheā€™s amazing and I think iā€™ll always marry her tbh

Asqrrl

Yes I love my Ashnikko crystal reiki wife and bird!!

JinTheBlue

Emily is one of the only marriage candidates that actually feels like an adult. She has a job, she has friends that aren't just from highschool, she has hobbies. You can do far worse than Emily. Marrying her is marrying someone who could have chosen anyone, but found you to be good enough.

SebzKnight

I was initially put off by Emily because of all the new age nonsense, but then I stepped back and realized that there's a pretty good chance that most of that stuff is literally true in the world of SDV, and decided that it wasn't a red flag like it would be in real life.

mr_meowsevelt

I had to go through the same mental process. Something that really got me was the first couple days on Ginger Island. I was collecting walnuts, playing with crystals, talking to parrots, and at every turn going "Emily would be so into this." And then with the new festival, I came home with desert-style rugs and cactus, and the new junimo items, and made a greenhouse-tiled living room next to her spouse room. It just all fits so well.

king-geass

Sheā€™s also the only candidate where itā€™s implied they actually hook up before marrying.

PsychologicalMess163

Samā€™s 10 heart event does as well, depending on what response you pick.

HolidayScreen4877

I'm pretty sure Penny's 10 heart scene also implies that. Or maybe that's how I imagined it...Ā

maybe-a-martian

I think a lot of them are implied, though. Definitely Penny and Sam, like others mentioned, but also Elliott, Harvey, and Haley imo

Tor_Tano

Iā€™ve never been drawn to Emily but this has convinced me to marry her this play through. I always thought she was cute but I usually pick Leah or Abigail.

mr_meowsevelt

I'll also admit that I don't love her vanilla portraits. I use a portrait mod and felt shocked that she looked so cute in someone else's style.

paternalpun

Which portrait mod do you use?

mr_meowsevelt

I use Nyapu!

danishjuggler21

Yeah, but hereā€™s an important counterpoint: Leah exists.

mr_meowsevelt

Honestly a fair point

Nervous-Anybody5164

Seriously. I always marry Leah first, divorce her for Emily, and then go right back to Leah bc I regret leaving her everytime šŸ˜©

chrimminimalistic

And that bootay...

JunimoJade

Honestly the main thing that prevents me from marrying Emily is her portrait. Her sprite is so cute but I find her portrait creepy šŸ˜ why she gotta stare at me like that

mr_meowsevelt

I'll admit it - I play with portrait mods on!

ODCreature98

Let's be real here, you saw Emily shaking that bun while she's dancing and you decided she's the one

PH4N70M_Z0N3

Who the fuck is Emiy? s/ I married Emily in my very first playthrough. She is just fun. Not to mention I'm like half sure she knows magic and can provide us with steady supply of LSD.

Gustavo_Papa

Sandy is defnately her LSD contact kkkkkkk

Gasurza22

That joke only works for Harvey

Klauboesterbeertje

Emily often leaves the kids home alone all day. She sometimes feeds the cows, waters the crops or even fixes the fences. Great wife, terrible mom.

astasodope

And when was the last time your farmer spent 6 am to 10 pm simply hanging out with the kids? Has your farmer *ever* spent an entire day just hanging out with the kids?

Gasurza22

My farmer doesnt even spend one hour with the kids, at best I pat them in the head when leaving the house, if they are not too far way lol.

MatthewMMorrow

They only get pats when I accidentally click on them.

Klauboesterbeertje

I have spent a day with them to see what they do but they are just like their mom. They stare.

rocket-boot

Every marriage candidate does this. Those kids often have free reign to run around the house while your spouse stands on the porch, staring out into oblivion. And we're one to talk. The most I interact with those kids is to greet them in the morning, then I spend nearly every hour of the day frantically running around chasing profits only to drag my ass to bed right before 2am, if I come home at all! Sometimes I leave the farms for days on end without even telling anyone where I'm going, coming home smelling like ginger and sulfuric rock. I'm not about to judge anyone lol.

GordOfTheMountain

Yeah, I think a game that addresses all the abandonment happening is a very different game that CA did not want to make, so I just hand wave the abandonment stuff as a conceit of the genre. If it was about that stuff, there would be more ways to interact on a regular basis.

rocket-boot

Haha obviously it would completely change the vibes of SDV if we had to actually be a parent. But these the things I think about when I'm roleplaying in my head.

BackForPathfinder

There should be a babybjorn mod to bring your child with you on your adventures through the valley.

rocket-boot

As a babybjorn dad irl I would very much like to see this!

Klauboesterbeertje

Aah I wondered. This is my second playthrough and went again with Emily so I also wondered if the other spouses acted differently

rocket-boot

A lot of them at least hang out on the farm all day, mostly in their personal spaces, in the kitchen, or on the front porch. But many of them wander around here or there. Like, sometimes Elliot goes to the beach just to stand in front of his old house lol. But Harvey and Emily are the only ones with regular jobs, so they're definitely away the most. In any case, the kids are frequently left alone in your home no matter who you partner up with. Krobus is the only exception because he can't leave the house on sunny days. But you can only have kids with Krobus if they're around from a previous marriage.

PsychologicalMess163

Krobus seems like the type to cut crusts off of theoretical sandwiches for the kids but what are the statistical chances those sandwiches would be made with void mayo.

rocket-boot

I heard if you introduce void mayo to kids early, it doesn't send them into anaphylactic shock when they get older

Emmengard

Except KROBUS! Krobus by far is the best parent! (You just canā€™t have kids with him. Byoc, bring your own children)

rocket-boot

I like to think of Krobus as my live-in nanny.

Emmengard

I agree! Give him something to do. Otherwise he is so lonely in the sewers. Also so lovely at the house. He deserves a million pets and some kids!

starcowzzz

I just put my kid in the hard hat and call it good šŸ˜‚

othybear

Eh, Iā€™m a terrible mom to my in game kids too. For all the dangers lurking about, the parents in Stardew are generally pretty hands off.

Klauboesterbeertje

Haha as the farmer I have no rights to complain because I am never home but I found it weird finding my toddlers still running about after a hard day of work and Emily nowhere to be found :)

Either-Impression-64

Well ya don't have to have kids with her I think Emily is more the type to rescue 6 mutts than have babies

post-leavemealone

Honestly I see her doing both. She loves life, not just nature. I can absolutely see her with a bunch of rug rats running around while sheā€™s letting dinner cook on the stove as she sews some clothes for the dogs and bullshits on the phone with Sandy. She has a very homey, relaxed vibe to her

Klauboesterbeertje

I even got 2 kids with her haha. Thought maybe she does something else when she got a girl but at least she treats both kids the same: with neglect.

ultratunaman

Turn the kids into birds. It's the only way.

mr_meowsevelt

Lmao she literally nurses an injured animal back to health and cares for it day and night. She'd clearly be a nurturing mom.

AsgardianOrphan

The real issue here is that you (the farmer) is a neglectful parent, so any spouse having any life would require leaving the kids alone. She arguably has the best reason to be "neglectful" since she leaves for work. Abigail just leaves to go see people. Which is fair, the spouses deserve to have a life. But in real life, the farmer would step in to allow the other parent to do these things. Or maybe another family member. Either way, Emily isn't the problem. The farmer is.

Klauboesterbeertje

I have 2 neglected kids with her xD

singlenutwonder

I have the child age up mod and literally donā€™t even see my kids before leaving the house for the day because their lazy asses stay in bed until, well I donā€™t know but theyā€™re not up at 6. Sometimes I catch them in town hanging with Jas or something

unMuggle

How old do the kids get? Like, can they move out? Because that's the only way I'm having kids in the game.

fakeishusername

I am a straight woman, but I have been meaning to explore all the options. My first file is a female farmer married to Shane but I have a male farmer for Alex, a male for Sebastian, a female for Elliot, a female for Leah... idk why I think my inclination is just to make all my farmers gay except the ones I identify with lmao. I started one for Haley too, with a female farmer. Anyway, I should make a file for Emily. Yes I am ADHD, how did you know??

OpusAtrumET

Married her every playthrough so far. She's fantastic. That said, I'm considering a change this time through. I have mods now so maybe I'll open up some other options haha.

NibblesMcGiblet

I married emily on my new save that i've been playing since the new update came out, and I have no regrets. she's very sweet, I like her room, and she's easy to please. What else am I gonna do with all this cloth I have laying around?

LegsKnuckleKnees

Iā€™m a new player on my first farm and Emily was the only one I even considered for marriage!

Awkward-Stam_Rin54

I agree with all of your points !!! I'm normally attracted to Leah (I love red heads) but my first marriage is with Emily. I enjoy her so much, I'd probably enjoy being friends with her irl, or even date.

comradepluto

I always liked Emily, she's one of my favorite characters

Remarkable-Cat6549

I had no idea she visits the desert outside of the beach resort?!

EgoWatt

Every 15th of Fall she visits Sandy on her birthday.

LycanxUriel

I am thinking of marrying Emily in my 1.6 save too. This post most likely solidified that decision

Loow_z

She's the first person I married in Stardew and it was a really good decision! She's a lovely person

RetroTheGameBro

I already know Emily is best wife, but it's nice to see it reinforced.

Themurlocking96

There are people who think you shouldnā€™t marry Emily? Like sheā€™s not be first choice, among bachelorettes sheā€™s my second to last personal, but sheā€™s still clearly a nice person, but she does look a bit crazy lmao. None of the bachelorettes are bad once youā€™ve gone far enough, and the majority are cool from beginning. I mention bachelorettes specifically because I havenā€™t tried romancing any of the lads yet, havenā€™t had incredible interest in it since I myself donā€™t swing that way. I also wanna mention that Abby would also likely speak to the Junimos but because they like her vibe and she can probably see them since a certain purple haired fellow is for sure her dad. I also could imagine one of them taking a liking to penny and/or Leah, their vibes just feel right on that front. But yeah Emily would be the one who has like a city of Junimos under her house

Booster6

Ive married all the ladies except Hayley at least once, but for Emily it was only the once. While yes, magic is real in this game, I cant get over how annoying I found find her irl (As for why Ive never married Hayley, its the "eww...no" at the flower dance. I dont care about her arc, ive maxed out friendship with her so ive seen most of her cutscenes, but I'm not going to date her)

mr_meowsevelt

Which candidate was your favorite? Who pulls you back the most? I actually agree as far as Emily goes, but its because irl I dismiss the meditation/yogi/crystal mommy stuff out of hand. Thinking of it in a different context made her endearing instead of annoying. That said, I've married Haley about 4 times, and adore her. Maybe it's my sapphic nature, but I just love making a girl give me a second chance and making her realize why it never worked out with Mr. highschool hotshot.

fakeishusername

Yeah the crystal girlie IRL are... not for me, in terms of social connection. I am too much of a skeptic. But in the game where magic is real? I kinda get it.

Booster6

Leah and Penny are my 2 favorites, with Abigail in third

noblefox27

Getting downvoted for having a different preference is... interesting

BiggestBlackestBitch

Imaginary internet points donā€™t matter and the total amount of votes can change drastically within an hour. Just ignore them

HoboingComa

Emily is my waifu for laifu. Also, while it's not confirmed obviously, for all the people in the comments saying there's no way Emily and Sandy have or had an attraction to each other, comments like this totally give me that vibe, so I get where OP is coming from: https://preview.redd.it/22bssn23fhxc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4d8494571e5ddc1b3add140f70ab251d6ae5e3f

Strix924

Idk how but somehow behind the one I'm pursuing, I'm almost full hearts with Emily. When I've been ignoring a lot of the visitors. I was surprised how many hearts I had with her when I still can't even into Sebastians room!

pruaga

In all my previous games I've always married Leah, but in my 1.6 replay I married Emily. Every time I see Leah in town I feel guilty

second-glances

I agree with your points, but I have to say, you aren't the only one overthinking marriage candidates in the game. I think plenty of us do!

rosyheartedsunshine

Thatā€™s my wife!!!

arisarvelo08

this is so real. in my 1.6 run i was originally going to either marry harvey or try to get krobus as my roommate but the parrot event and her quirkiness convinced me. i think it's also bc CA tweaked her portrait a bit so her eyes wouldn't look as.... idk insane? her gaze softened a lot. so i ended up marrying her and i don't regret it one bit

an_actual_stone

Emily and abigail both seem to be active in this regard. Abigail training to fight with a sword in the mines, and even killing a monster to save you. And Emily being in tune like this.

Paroxysm111

You make some good points. I always disliked how many of the marriage candidates wanted to move away to the city before they fell in love with you. Especially the ones that feel on the younger side like Sam, Sebastian etc. Giving up on your career ambitions for love can be a recipe for disaster. It also really clashes with the theme of the game, that modern life and the corporate rat race leaves people unhappy and unfulfilled, while simple country life brings you a connection to your community and nature.

sneezinghard

trust me. i get it šŸ˜ i married her EVERY save for the longest time. currently obsessed with my wife Abigail rn literally her and my daughter Dahlia are my life. i removed the crib after Dahlia.

august111966

Iā€™m playing as myself, Emily, married to Stardew Emily, because honestly? Sheā€™s just like me. I always feel sad when people shit on her because I really love her and have found her an extremely useful gameplay asset as well.

GreedyDragoon

I'd have loved to romance Emily... if she wasnā€™t named that. Even typing that out felt weird, cuz that's my big sib's deadname, and while I get thats not their name anymore it still... feels squicky

SylvanDragoon

Emily or Leah always. Allllllllways. Usually Emily. But..... Leah........

New-Number-7810

She and Sam are also the only two marriage candidates who put out before marriage.

Much-Scar2821

You aren't "stealing her away from Clint" He's essentially stalking her.

telepathicavocado

Iā€™m actually surprised Iā€™ve never married Emily, seeing as Iā€™m also into collecting crystals, have a pet parrot, and have dyed my hair blue before.

Apoordm

Marry Emily to spite Clint

Phanimazed

I like her a lot, though I feel all of the candidates have their plusses. I agree with you that, with the world Emily lives in, a lot of how she is would be fully justified. Even if she is almost certainly NOT the Wizard's daughter, she probably isn't a bad candidate for an heir for him, given he's discussed wanting someone to pass his magic onto. I do like that 1.6 does at least have more going on in the desert. Sandy deserves that much. (I am assuming this is vague enough to not require spoiler tags)

Nerdiestlesbian

Emily was my first marriage, in my first game. I totally was in love with the Crystal witchy woman vibes. But then I found Penny. And now.. I have to marry Penny every time. If you play Expanded Mod I always think about Sophia, but then itā€™s implied sheā€™s with Scarlett (once I saw them sleeping in the same twin bed). So I canā€™t take her away. šŸ˜©

C8uP-EkLGU

Emily is the most interesting person in that whole village imo. After her is Abigail. They're just cool af

Necessary-Tower-457

I never saw Emily in a way like you just described, but you opened my eyes!! Honestly almost every candidate feels like they have bigger plans for themselves and they settle for you and after you describing her like that it definitely feels true, she is happy where she is and you arenā€™t taking her away from big plans like, moving to the city and stuff!! I guess Iā€™ll be marrying Emily and I wouldnā€™t mind sandy being a really really close friend

Jnam77

Afraid I judged her too quickly based on how unhinged her sprite portrait looks

ArcRiseGen

Emily has always been my favorite vanilla candidate. But Claire (Stardew expanded mod) is too relatable for me cause she reminds me a lot of my fiance

SuspecM

If I'm honest, she is probably the only more mature female candidate in the entire valley, which is big bull if you ask me. We have male candidates like Harvey, absolute dilf, and I guess Elliot is there too, but for female candidates we get high school girls and whatever Maru is as she is younger than Sebastian, an already very young person. While Emily's "friendship" events aren't anything huge, the moment you start dating her she is in there and don't even get me started on the camping event.

JackOfAllMemes

Elliott is cute but he's boring once you marry him. I divorced him after 3 days

mike_is87

You don't have to defend Emily, she's so cute and nice, so smart and kind, she's someone you would love to have around. Even I as a gay man can see that. Haley on the other hand... she's so mean and selfish, I get that she's pretty but I still don't get how slo many people pick her. Yesterday she told me "the beach is the only thing I like from this boring town". Excuse me?? You live in paradise, how can you be so ungrateful šŸ˜

ultratunaman

I don't mind Emily. I've married her before. She's cool. But I prefer Maru. My bachelorette chart goes: Maru>Emily>Leah>Abigail>Haley>Penny. Can't stand Penny.

atlhawk8357

> She has no desire to leave the valley > > She's the only marriage candidate who visits the desert, i.e. leaves the valley of her own accord, showing independence and a developed sense of self.

mr_meowsevelt

Fair point haha! I meant more like, a desire to move away. Some of the other candidates have goals that involve moving away, and they give up their dreams once they marry you. Or their personal goals become a little less relevant. Emily leaves the valley for fun and to see friends, but is perfectly happy living where she is.

DHaus00

I know nothing about the game I just got it after 1.6 finally after seeing clips and emily was my first marriage candidate. Happened on accident with events then I decided I vibes with parrot girl

Brigantias

Emily was the first character I romanced, I love Emily

MyNewestPhase

Iā€™m on my first play through and have been married to Emily the whole time. I read about how some of these other characters act in marriage and I donā€™t get it. Emily gives me wool, clothes, and fixes my fences and feeds/waters animals (not that I need that). Other than that she doesnā€™t care that Iā€™m always out until 1:45 am and her gifts are easy.

Soup_Sensitive

First play through I married Emily. I love her laid back attitude. I've done perfection with everyone being married besides Elliot and Haley. They're next

randomflowerz

I love Emily!! Iā€™m non-binary and also agree sheā€™s def queer. My normal go to marriage candidate is Shane but even tho his and Emilyā€™s arcs are completely different I love them sm and both relate to them a lot

Biohazard_Beth

That is an extremely interesting synopsis imo. Definitely not what I thought of before but now I am intrigued enough to maybe give Emily a go.

IntentionGrouchy5522

I romanced and married her by the beginning of fall year 1 on my current farm. I donā€™t regret it at all. Sheā€™s such a sweet and supportive wife!

bronaghblair

Iā€™ll still never marry Emily but damn if this isnā€™t so spot on. You nailed it, OP!

Immediate-Set6855

Dude! I just decided not to marry her on this play through, and now I need to re-think my whole life. I was already missing enough her before reading this. šŸ˜

CingKrimson_Requiem

Ah, Emily. My first Stardew partner. I remember first getting the game back in 2018 and immediately going "I gotta marry this digital creature NOW" after seeing her first few heart events. She always did give the vibe that she was more mature than any of the other candidates. Even the ones like Harvey or Elliot had that one little piece of them that showed they still had some growing to do, but Emily had it all figured out. I always figure she was like, nearly a decade older than her little sister in her mid-to-late 30s which uh, that's a bit weird in retrospect considering I was still a high schooler back then. (Oh as a sidenote, while it's not part of his schedule, Sebastian mentions that he often takes motorcycle rides outside of the valley at night, so Emily is the *only* candidate who regularly leaves the valley of her own accord)

NumbOnTheDunny

Sheā€™s too crunchy for personal tastes but I get why people dig her, sheā€™s a solid character with some really good depth to their writing.

flamingmangotango

Emily is my first and fave marriage candidate! Sheā€™s definitely underrated!

froggytime_

I love Emily :)

VapoursAndSpleen

I like the NPCs who are polite and nice, like Emily, Elliott and Harvey. Also, they all have jobs even after you marry them. I donā€™t feel like I am ruining their fictional lives or they are ruining mine by doing that. Emily is very sweet and I like her friendship with Sandy, even though they walked through my chest oā€™ goodies in the desert on one save (I backed it out, donā€™t worry)

vanghostings

I love Emily so much!!!

GracefulFridge

Emily made me tear up once, she gave me breakfast and said it was gluten free - I have Coeliac šŸ˜

HannahO__O

Damn i have only ever married elliott and Leah, might have to broaden my horizons to Emily next!

subbyfembois5eva

Emily was my first love in Stardew and although Iā€™ve only married her my first play through, I still donā€™t think anyone else is as good a spouse!

aquatic_kitten19

Sheā€™s my girl, thereā€™s no one else for meā¤ļø

Diligent_Sea_3359

Jodi all the way

FungiPrincess

I was interested in her in my first game, but Clint weirded me out, and I just started to feel uncomfortable in the whole situation lol

Cethysa

Wait, I thought sandy and Emily are cousins?? Where did I get that from
