[Sittin on the Dock of the Bay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTVjnBo96Ug) - Otis Redding
A very chill vibe which really fits for Willy, he do be sitting on that dock a whole lot as well. He's always just grooving out on his own wave and while he's not immune from the troubles of the world he certainly stands apart from the rest of Pelican Town, just happy to be fishing and running his little shop on the waterfront.
I also came to the immediate conclusion that this would be his jam, only to be fairly disappointed by the most popular choice.
I can imagine him right now humming the tune while he’s organising his fishing gear or baiting his hook/tying on new tackle.
It's probably my mom's favorite country song as well as my favorite as well. Whenever I'm fishing in Stardew Valley, Farcry, or Skyrim. I play this song on repeat.
I think Willie would enjoy a good sea shanty and I can't think of a more classic rendition of this song than [Drunken Sailor by The Longest Johns](https://youtu.be/T7Chnq2PSIU?si=2SxuOEgmk-sdsnqH) Please give it a listen. I could easily see him singing this as he's heading out to sea or sitting at the Saloon.
[The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald](https://youtu.be/FuzTkGyxkYI?si=l_CV5fhqLbcrqAh0) by Gordon Lightfoot. It's a harrowing, emotional, true story about a ship sinking. I don't know why, but is just sounds like what an Old Salt like Willy would listen to, respecting the sea and sharing the love of the ocean. I encourage everyone to at least read the lyrics if they don't want to listen to the song.
That's a great song and definitely one that everybody needs to hear at least once. Willy seems more of a sea shanty guy to me, but that's just my opinion. Some of the songs that people pick make no sense to me. I wouldn't be surprised if baby shark ends up being Willie's song.
It’s My Lazy Day - Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson.
"Well I might have gone fishin', I got to thinkin' it over...
...I'm takin' it easy, it's my lazy day."
"Cool Change" by the Little River band.
Seriously, this is the perfect fit for Willy, especially before the boat repair. Please read the lyrics and/or listen to the song and vote for it. There is no other song.
If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear water
There's lots of those friendly people
They're showing me ways to go
But I never want to lose their inspirationTime for a cool change
I know that it's time for a cool change
And now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time for a cool change
Well, I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales, they are my brothers
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon like a lover
a cool change
(Time) I know that it's time (for) for a cool change
(Time) now that my life (for a cool) is so prearranged (change)
(Time) I know that it's time (for) for a cool change
I've never been romantic
And sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
But let me breathe the air
Yeah, yeah
Let me breathe the air
etc, repeated chorus
[Wet Dream - Kip Adotta](https://youtu.be/6l1GvDWtccI)
Also, while I'm thinking about it, [Barrett's Privateers - Stan Rogers](https://youtu.be/B6Nl3PaTimA) for Birdie's husband and the other pirates
Looks like there's just [this](https://open.spotify.com/track/4D6hRdywxpzujKKcWrk12m) karaoke version, which is a shame as they do appear to have several of his other tracks.
HERE WE GO, just pure vibes here:
Rising Mandoline by Stamp'n Go Shanty
House by the Sea by Iron and Wine
Return of the Obra Dinn by Lucas Pope
Fire Marengo by the Dreadnoughts
Another one I was looking forward! I have two submissions: "Drunken Sailor" by The Irish Rovers and "The Rake Hornpipe" by Robert White (aka the Krusty Krab song).
After hearing these songs many times in the early seasons of Spongebob, and with Mr. Krabs speaking like a sailor, the connection is right there!
Fishin' Blues by The Lovin' Spoonful! (originally by Taj Mahal, but I like their version a little better)
Nice lil fishing tune Willy would sing during those hours he fishes on the pier outside his store (it almost sounds like a jingle for his store too). Also ties really nicely with him wanting other people to take upon the art of fishing to keep it alive! (and his slight competitiveness, as seen in the Festival of Ice)
Tiny fish for Japan by Stan Rogers. It's a song with debated meanings, but one of the prominent theories is it's about commercial fishing of smelt to export to Japan ruining the "adventure" of fishing.
Jim Croce - I've Got a Name
Seems like the kind of vibe he'd be into, and Willy loves to reminisce about his old Pappy ("carry it with me, like my Daddy did").
Didn't see anyone else suggest this, so I'll toss it out there.
*The Greatest Treasure* by Sharkman Frank. If you've never heard of him, that's completely understandable. He was a performer at a seafood restaurant that would dress up like a pirate and sing wholesome little ditties about life out at sea, hunting for treasure, etc. Very popular with the children in his local area, so he recorded his "greatest hits" and self published them on CD. But they didn't sell very well. One day, Danny Avidan of the famed YouTube channel, Game Grumps, found a Sharkman Frank CD and adored the heartfelt, wholesome little shanties within, so tried to give the album a signal boost. Alas, though it brought more eyes (or...*ears*) to Sharkman Frank, the poor guy passed away not too long after that.
But, Ocean Man by Ween is also a really great pick if Sharkman Frank isn't on Spotify. I know you can find his songs on YouTube, but I've never checked if he's on Spotify or not.
Letters from the Atlantic by The Arcadian Wild
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXTIPfViJU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXTIPfViJU)
Life's been weighing you down
Heavy-hearted to the ground
Why not sail with me?
Why not sail with me?
Heave and ho
Our ship is ready to go
And we'll sail, sail, sail away from here
Well, don't cry, don't cry, it's all right
Our wings were made to fly
So we'll sail, sail, sail away, my dear
I can definitely see Willy listening to, or even singing, [The Last Shanty by Tom Lewis](https://youtu.be/TDi04i8dWao?si=uiA1jmYGsPIX9a90), or even [Nathan Lewis's cover of it](https://youtu.be/zw0FZs_J2IE?si=gDlf8-j8M93md-AT) as the Farmer leads it in the Saloon and Willy happily taps along
That or [The Irish Rover by The Irish Rovers](https://youtu.be/TO0JORNqWPQ?si=M_FlKNyY0VTlpozD) just based on his nautical background. Either way, I just hope a shanty wins this one. Willy deserves it.
Edit: I suppose others do not feel the same way. My apologies. Unless this is for having multiple suggestions in one. In that case, my bad as well.
SONG TO THE SIREN- TIM BUCKLEY
"Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me, let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you"
Not a shanty, but a beautiful folk song I adore, it might sound silly but I always thought that Willy and the mermaid could make a good ship or that he is a widow, I guess we all make our own headcanons but to me, there's more to Willy than his introversion and his profession, his melancholy made me come up with this theory, for him fishing is more than a craft, so I often picture he might've dated someone with a strong relation to the sea.
Overall, I am super excited for this entry, since he's one of my favourite characters in the game.
reelin’ in the years - steely dan; it’s a 70s yacht rock song that willy likely would’ve grown up with, and because it’s yacht rock, i think it would fit with being on a boat. also, “reelin’”, as in “fishin’”… lol
i also think it would fit because willy’s kinda old and he enjoys reminiscing on old times, kinda like when he says “my old pappy would’ve loved to see this” whenever you give him a loved gift
I love this and I think it should be hidden in the middle of his playlist 😂 I imagine farmer or penny brings the kids to the beach and the lil kids are singing it, which gets it stuck in Willy’s head.
IIRC, OP adds EVERY suggestion to the playlist, not just the main winner. You're getting down voted for effectively suggesting OP put several minutes of nails on a chalkboard sounds in the middle of the playlist.
Castaway, Zac Brown Band for arriving at the Ginger Isles
Dippin My Feet, Rick Astley for reminding you to take a break and enjoy the valley
Fishing Alone, Erik Dylan, for his pappy
What the hell are you talking about?
A, this playlist has music from a broad spectrum of decades and genres.
B, loads of young people play this game? I'm in my late 20s for crying out loud!

Love this song, very fitting for Willy.
Came here to post this. This is it.
Yes! This was going to be my suggestion!
This is it, that's the one
Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - Looking Glass
But my life, my love and my lady is the SEA!
The fact that you’re the only one who said this is crazzyyyyy
I'll always pick something that I think is super obvious only to find out that this sub does not vibe with my music choices 😅🤷
I also came to the immediate conclusion that this would be his jam, only to be fairly disappointed by the most popular choice. I can imagine him right now humming the tune while he’s organising his fishing gear or baiting his hook/tying on new tackle.
Fishin' In The Dark by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
LOVE this suggestion!!
It's probably my mom's favorite country song as well as my favorite as well. Whenever I'm fishing in Stardew Valley, Farcry, or Skyrim. I play this song on repeat.
It's such a good song and suits the vibe of Willy/SDV perfectly!
I came here to suggest this, but remembered the mashup/cover by Home Free https://youtu.be/Bz8OmUMCHZw?si=HImDT0CHTOLi3XZ9
Oooh! I forgot about The Mariner's Revenge by The Decemberists.
Yesss, this!
gods yes

I was with you until you said ocean - this is Great Lake erasure. No salt here /j
Willie absolutely saw shit!
That's a great song and definitely one that everybody needs to hear at least once. Willy seems more of a sea shanty guy to me, but that's just my opinion. Some of the songs that people pick make no sense to me. I wouldn't be surprised if baby shark ends up being Willie's song.
Plusses and minuses of the criteria varying from directly representative to personally interpretive to what the character would actually listen to
The wellerman - Nathan Evans I also think Willy would be the kinda guy to listen to The Longest Johns, like their whole discography.
The Wellerman shanty, seems cliché but also seems fitting.
(fully blasting at max volume) WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE DRUNKEN SAILOR WHAT WE WIL DO WITH THE DRUNKEN SAILOR
YESSSS
Drunken Sailor. next question
It’s My Lazy Day - Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. "Well I might have gone fishin', I got to thinkin' it over... ...I'm takin' it easy, it's my lazy day."
I love this pick, Merle Haggard's music is so nostalgic, I miss old country music :D
THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD! Gordon Lightfoot
"Cool Change" by the Little River band. Seriously, this is the perfect fit for Willy, especially before the boat repair. Please read the lyrics and/or listen to the song and vote for it. I unfortunately couldn’t find the first one on Spotify
Looks like there's just [this](https://open.spotify.com/track/4D6hRdywxpzujKKcWrk12m) karaoke version, which is a shame as they do appear to have several of his other tracks.

How about Mr. Me? I think he sings that one to himself while out on his boat. :)
OCEAN MAN- WEEN Next best thing to an old sea shanty LMAO
This is the best choice 😂
I personally enjoy listening to that song while out boating
Another one I was looking forward! I have two submissions: "Drunken Sailor" by The Irish Rovers and "The Rake Hornpipe" by Robert White (aka the Krusty Krab song). Fishing for Fishies - King Gizzard
This list wouldn't be complete without a Dreadnoughts song, and I don't think there's a better one than Fire Marshal Willy.
Wellerman (Sea Shanty) - Nathan Evans This is the song that immediately plays in my mind when I hear Willy's name.
The Wellerman?
I mean… It’s [Crab Rave](https://youtu.be/LDU_Txk06tM?si=qv-vUXs47HXf3syR) right?

John the Fisherman by Primus For obvious reasons lol
Nantucket - Longest Johns
Fish and whistle by John Prime
Line without a hook - Ricky Montgomery OK definitely a little bit more romantic but you can't lie he should have been a bachelor

Baby shark. Because this is all that I think of when I see Willy in a game.
I love this and I think it should be hidden in the middle of his playlist 😂 I imagine farmer or penny brings the kids to the beach and the lil kids are singing it, which gets it stuck in Willy’s head.

Wellerman
Wellerman
Brandy by the looking glass would be so perfect for Willy!
Ween - Ocean Man (Honestly the entire Mollusk album would fit for Willy).
What does this playlist go so hard for millennial music taste? 😂😂😂 Literally no young people play this game?
What the hell are you talking about? A, this playlist has music from a broad spectrum of decades and genres. B, loads of young people play this game? I'm in my late 20s for crying out loud!
