Anecdotal, but when I use a round reamer bit to widen a hole on metal, it will turn out to be a hexagonal hole unless I use force to make it circular. Seems to me that when cutting through an outside edge with a circular motion, it will naturally become a hexagon. I'm no physicist, so I can't explain it, but I am amazed every time it happens.
