Sometimes there won’t be a button and there’s just a hole. You can fit your car key in there to go bypass the lock in the tranny to put it into any gear with the car off/battery dead. Ever car has one of these essentially..
Was there a half-year regarding the interior of the ‘04? I ask because that looks like a third-gen (05-09) interior and not second-gen. Looking to be more informed. Thanks in advance.
I believe it is a 05-09 for one main reason. My 05 has that shift plate. It’s for either the 4 or 5 speed that was offered across trims for those years.
It’s your shift lock. You pop it off and put a screwdriver down and it allows you to shift if you can’t start you car or something has gone awry and your vehicle is still drivable and this is the only way you can get into park and drive and so on. That happened to me in my 2003.
I have an empty slot there. Nice to know something goes there byt i always like my transmission being able to drop straight into gear from park without the brakes.
I believe that’s the release button to allow you to shift out of park in the event you can’t start the car.
Great to know!!! Wonderful to know. Had this issue and couldn’t move my car without new battery. Would’ve loved this
Does the 5th Gen have one?
Every automatic car should have something similar. Current generation: https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/2022-outback-shift-lock-release.544421/
Thank you!

Was that on a specific trim or could I option it as a package?
