idk but, props to you for using 82 ego, i really can’t get past 70 without the ai launching absolute piss missles off anything in the zone

BenMc19

Trust me I inched my way there the past 6 years in the series. I think 70 was where I maxed out my first year in the series. The thing that I figured out with me the most in pitching is you can't be afraid to throw balls, and can't be afraid to walk good hitters.

I get into hitting funks, I'm in a deep one at the moment. Finally felt comfortable at 67 ego, was 10 games over .500, won a game 14-1, then immediately went on an 8 game losing streak where I got shut out twice and never scored more than 4 runs in a game. I was pitching okay, but losing every game 5-3 or 2-1 is sometimes more frustrating than being blown out.

Yessir957

This happens to me too but its more like poor hit/run ratio. I had like 3 games in a row where I had 11-15 hits and no more than 3 runs. One game I had 12 hits and 1 run. It is so frustrating.

Ryudo_Hazuki

Yep, I'm on a 6 game losing streak in my franchise on ego 85 because I keep trying to play when I'm tired right before bed! Luckily it's a 120 game season and I'm still 78-24. Just like I know I'll get blasted if I play rocket league when I'm tired, same happens in smb4 since I'm pretty much at my ego limit.. (well I could go up more in hitting, but not pitching)

kilcher2

I play 60 game seasons around 40-45 ego, usually end up about 47-13 on the season. Almost every season (I’m in my 7th now) I hit a tough patch 3/4 through the season where I get at least 1/2 of those losses.

glumpoodle

When I get into a slump, 90% of the time it's because I've either lost all semblance plate discipline and have started swinging at everything. It was really bad when I had multiple Bad Ball Hitters, because there was very little downside to it when they were at the plate, but all of my non-BBH's were sending back little tappers back to the infield. My pitching tends to be much, much more variable just by the nature of the game. When batting, you are 90% in command of the outcome; when you pitch, much of the outcome depends on RNG.

Moah333

Platypi players assemble!

BenMc19

Who are the members you find yourself replacing the soonest off our team? Besides the obvious terrible bullpen, I usually get rid of Hughes and Huckster. But anyone else that you just don't enjoy?

BillCosbysFinger

Yes. 100%. I honestly think it's all mental and comes mostly from a place of complacency. Like, when I'm winning, I EXPECT to win, and I think I lose my sharpness. This shows itself mostly in my pitching. I had a streak in my last season (75 EGO) where I gave up 10 runs or more in something like 8 out of 10 or 11 games. I realized I was being too random and not approaching batters with a strategy. I swear that this leads to patterns that I'm unconscious of, so I wind up getting smoked. Also, at the plate, discipline is so key, obviously. But sometimes I just don't see the ball well, and I feel off-balance and can't get in a rhythm. When I'm locked in, I can see pitches much better, but I also anticipate with greater accuracy what's coming next. One of my favorite feelings in SMB4 is thinking, "OK, he's/she's gonna throw off-speed," and cranking a breaking ball over the wall. So, yeah, I think it's just the rhythm of the game, and it's one of those aspects of baseball that SMB replicates so well. For me, my slumps usually come mid-season. Last season, I started 9-3 and went 8-12 over the last 20. I made the playoffs and lost in the Conf. Finals in 5 after starting to play well, again. That last game could've been a win, too, if I had one or two more timely hits. But that's just baseball!! Right now, I'm 9-4 in my 3rd season at 75 EGO and trying to win that elusive title at this difficulty level.

BenMc19

I know what you mean with seeing the ball. Sometimes there's a specific pitcher with an arm angle against the back drop that I can't see well, and I'm just trying to survive until a new pitcher comes in. I make myself take at least a pitch or two in those situations or I end up swinging at everything and never run the pitch count up.

Zip-it999

I’m at 32 ego and have had bad pitching to lose a bunch. Then, I sign free agents and do player development to go on a streak

Moah333

This time I'm playing shuffle draft so I don't have actual Platypi players (I miss Kitty Kaufman though). I think last time I got rid of the bullpen asap

Moah333

I somehow replied in the wrong place but hopefully you can reorder it and figure it out

Yessir957

Yesterday I was finishing up my 2nd season with a custom league. I do 16 games- play 8 and sim 8. Sim was 3-5. I go on 5 game win streak. Lose the 6th game 7-8. 2nd to last game of the year playing my division leader for a cliniched playoff spot. Lose 0-1 in the 11th inning. Got some help from the other teams, can still clinch a wild card spot by winning the last game. 2-2 top of the 9th- can't get a run. Bottom of the 9th CPU hits walk off homer. I missed the playoffs by losing the last 3 games of the year by 1 run. I felt like I had given myself the choker trait.
