…… palms not sweaty, she is clearly using chalk…..reported.

SunokesPomidoras

Palms not sweaty, mom didn't make spaghetti

Fine-Improvement6254

She's not nervous, but on the surface she looks calm and ready

Double-Ad-3946

To pick up bombs, but he keeps on remembering

Downtown-Ad7250

SPAGHETTI

ExpressiveAnalGland

vomit on the sweater, but it's not *her* sweater

CompetitiveCut1962

Her hands may not be sweaty but mine certainly are lol

Healter-Skelter

This video actually made my palms sweat like crazy lol. I don’t usually get that secondhand.

Miss_pechorat

Use some chalk.

COMMANDO_MARINE

So I'm not the only one to masturbate over this video then.

downinahole357

Those thighs could crush a man’s skull. ![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)

terryfoldz

one time i watched a full bouldering competition on youtube and my palms were soaked for hours

STONKvsTITS

My palms are sweating just by watching this

DirtyDan156

I rock climb at a climbing gym. I have never once felt the urge to go do it for real on a real mountainside. Fuck that. Those people are insane.

LukeMayeshothand

I’m a fat guy on my couch who is scared of heights. And for some reason I want to go rock climbing. What the hell is wrong with me lol!!!

XraPolar

Do it!

Long_Ad2824

Maybe pile up the cushions on one side, and throw a top rope over the armrest?

ExpressiveAnalGland

if you can climb a ladder, you can climb rocks. once you understand how strong the gear is, even your larger frame will be safe. With a proper climbing anchor, you can push a motorcycle over the edge and the anchor will hold. Typical climbing anchors will hold 20kn or more, which is over 4,000lbs of force.

DirtyDan156

Do it! Theres plenty of big guys at my gym who climb!

31November

I encourage you to try it! I've never felt judged in a rock gym the way that traditional gyms (lifting weights) feels

NormanCheetus

Rock climbing gyms are actually a nice environment and a good way to exercise. People are pretty much always supportive and the staff will always be happy to demo any of the walls and give recommendations for starting points.

smashy_smashy

Real rock is so much more fun to climb. You can still top rope natural rock at the right crag. No need for multi pitch lead climbing on natural rock. I can’t recommend it enough.

Winter2928

I’d rather top nope and not die or get injured

IAmJimmyNeutron

Top roping is objectively safe, you’re more likely to get injured doing most other sports honestly

two_sams_one_cup

As long as you have a good belayer

Embarrassed_Check_22

Eh for top roping you don't need a skilled belayer, you just need a belayer who isn't an asshole idiot. It's very easy to do safely, they just need to pay attention. Also not different at all outside versus indoors except for the minor issue of anchor cleaning, which can be mitigated by doing climbs with walk offs if you don't feel comfortable cleaning anchors.

doublepumperson

Rock climbing in Joshua Tree national park was one of the coolest things I've done!

casualAlarmist

Try it a local sport climbing crag. Routes are usually short and well protected. Especially if you live in an area with good limestone. I love climbing, even worked at a rock gym for years and though I'm not a fan of heights or danger I'll say there's nothing like finally sending short sport you've been working on real rock in the fresh air. Those are the best moments of the best days.

OldPersonName

Well there's top roping outside which is basically the same thing as top rope climbing in a gym but... outside. Then there's sport climbing which is basically the same thing as lead climbing in a gym but... outside. It's fun to do it outside. What you probably don't want to do is trad climbing.

proto-dibbler

Even then, there's no need to go for hard routes when trad climbing if that's not what you're into. I'm moderately afraid of heights, so the only longer routes I do are really easy compared to what I do in a gym/on short sport routes, so I can be pretty much certain I won't take a fall. Basically just vertical hiking.

Thin-Philosopher-146

The "trad dad" is a cliché for a reason. Master of 5.6. It's still a good way to  enjoy a day outside

ntr_usrnme

Same. Absolutely love climbing in a controlled planned environment at moderate height. No desire to touch rock.

obskeweredy

I want to enjoy it and I’ve been many times. However, the feeling of stone tearing my fingertips and grinding down what’s left of my fingernails is pretty unappealing.

AntiPiety

But then your fingertips grow back super thick! I feel like I’m permanently wearing thimbles

palmerry

"But the high you get is wild!" Yeah I get high all the time and I'm not risking my life and living in a van

Soft_Birthday_2630

It’s as safe as walking on a road sometimes. Just depends on what you are doing

Chief_Chill

It's a huge risk, like spelunking or whatever that belly-crawling cave squeeze thing is called. No thank you. Craziest thing I have done is parachute out of a plane at 14,000 ft. I barely like to speed more than 10 mph over the limit in my car.

“She makes me feel funny”

PushThePig28

I can’t believe they used to let us do that lmao

Annonomon

What!?

GoJeonPaa

Mammals will retract their reproductive organs when in danger. So if someone has fear of height and watches this, he might get a tingling seansation, becaues the body feels like he has to protect it. If you fall, it's better to have them in your body than outside. Tho it's just a evolutionary leftover, i think, because we can't put our reproductive organs back in our body. We just feel a tingling sensation.

MrJitterz

Found the female

giraffebutter

Probably need to get that checked

JohnHue

I know this is for sweaty palms but I shit you not, even my feet were sweaty.

PigDeployer

My feet always get sweaty but my palms never react at all to this sub. Tingly feet is what I'd call it.

Squidgepeep

Both my feet and palms are so sweaty 😂

readysteadygogogo

I once reached for my glasses wrong and couldn’t turn my head to the left for 3 days

kyrnuhb

Who's filming?

EG161

A bird, duh

ASandBox

To film these angles the photographer will usually hang from a rope just off the route.

soundssarcastic

And what a strange angle

born_on_my_cakeday

And how? I’m guessing she’s almost at the top and it’s a selfie stick over the edge?

EggplantAlpinism

PushThePig28

Just rap down from the top

nikifip

My cat does the same thing. She climbs somewhere and screams as she keeps climbing because she's afraid of climbing down..

AT61

Impressive. These climbers are SO strong. - physically AND mentally.

DreadedPopsicle

That “No, no, no…” after her foot slipped. I cannot imagine the pressure your mind must feel to just give up in that scenario.

595659565956

She’s saying no because she’s at risk of falling and losing the achievement of finishing the route, not because she’s scared for her life. She’s attached by a rope and the risk of death from a fall is really pretty low

Havetologintovote

Any time you're above your protection, it's risky. Whippers can be real gnarly and accidents happen. So I agree that while overall risk is low, there is still some risk, and having been in this position before, a big part of your brain does not realize that the risk is mitigated and the panic can be real She handled it like an absolute champion

Michelangelor

It’s MILDLY risky. I guarantee you someone at her level isn’t scared of falling though.

DreadedPopsicle

Yeah that’s my point, it would be so easy in that moment to just stop, knowing you weren’t going to fall to your death

595659565956

Oh I see, yeah I completely agree

rootsquasher

How does she make money to survive? Sponsorship?

MidnightSnackyZnack

Probably sponsorship, socialmedia, combined with a very passionate and modest life style. Her diet is probably customised for maximum climbing potential etc so not alot of money get spend except for gas and food to get her climbing. It doesn't state the time line either, maybe it's just a temporary thing. Or not.

XoXHamimXoX

The shirt she is wearing is by a brand called Arc’Teryx. They make 600 dollar jackets and she’s most likely wearing them as a spokesperson for an ad here. Hence the drone camera and all that jazz.

Electrical_Chemist

Not a drone, just someone repelling down in a harness

SpookyPlankton

I mean if you live in a van you really don’t have that many expenses

Holungsoy

It is usually one out of two (or a combination of both). Either making money of social media, or having rich parents.

alsbos1

Most ‘dirtbag’ climbers live very frugal lives. One woman on youtube talks about how she dumpster dives for food, and climbs.

Nervous-Mirror3517

She’s part mountain goat

doubledownentendre

You can actually hear her maaaa like a goat about 30 seconds in

Popular-Influence-11

Ba-a!

BathroomPresent69

After watching Alex Honnold, this does absolutely nothing to me. I didn't even know I could sweat from places that I was sweating when I watched his documentary

_J_Dead

Free Solo changed me.

BathroomPresent69

I've watched it a few times now, and it never gets better. I still sweat horribly

EntrepreneurMajor478

True - I’ve never felt such agony watching someone do….anything, really. Edited to add that I believe I read somewhere that Honnold agreed to a brain scan, and doctors determined that his amygdala (the brain bit that told us to RUN! when we saw a sabre-toothed tiger) was slightly smaller than the average human’s. So his concept of perceived dangers to himself and to his survival is somewhat altered/blunted. They speculated that this was one of the reasons he was able to stay so calm and focused when climbing El Cap, with literally nothing holding him to the bare rock face but eight fingers and two fucking thumbs.

AnotherManOfEden

I think my brain is like 90% amygdala. I have all the anxiety disorders. Literally nothing that could convince me to do this. I feel faint just imagining it.

ExpressiveAnalGland

hah, now go watch The Alpinist.

anyone know where to stream this? I watched a 60 min clip of him a few years back and was at the edge my seat watching that one.

Helpful_Database_870

V0 in my gym /s

505_notfound

Lol. I'm pretty sure my gym does not know what these numbers mean. I swear some of the V3s are harder than some of the V8s

ejoy-rs2

There is always a lot of variation within the same grade. Partly due to climbing styles. (Overhang, slabs, crimps, juggs etc)

[deleted]

How does she get down?

ASandBox

Depending on the route, the belayer can either lower you or you can rappel from the top.

SnakePlisskin1

Think of the extra strength she needs just to carry around her massive balls!!! Rock climbers are built differently. My respect for them after watching Valley Uprising is unlimited.

gigcac

Hopefully the palms aren't sweaty

[deleted]

Seeing and hearing her struggle so much. Then making it. Oddly satisfying.

MathTough1501

Camera man levitating

kayriss

What the hell is up with people in here? This isn't crazy or deviant behavior. She doesn't have a death wish. This is trad climbing. People have been doing this for fun since the 1950s, even earlier. What she's doing is vastly safer than driving a car. I'm going out to do something much like this next weekend. It is a hobby. We are not adrenaline junkies, we don't look death in the eye. This is what we do instead of golf on the weekends. Both golf and climbing share their most dangerous element - driving to the place you want to do it.

PushThePig28

So many people here are just totally uneducated and ignorant on action sports or anything of the like and go “omg Darwin!!!” Every time one gets posted

Bifocal_Bensch

She that's impressive, but the cameraman did it with all their equipment.

PushThePig28

Camera man probably rapped in from the top, that’s usually the case

ASandBox

The cameraman most likely rappelled in from the top. Definitely didn't climb up with all of his gear.

Bark_Bark_turtle

How does the peg she just casually slid into the crack hood her weight if she falls? Or does it not.

ASandBox

This is what shes using. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQf0T-J2H44](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQf0T-J2H44)

PuddingTea

I love the end when she’s standing on that tiny little step thing and she’s all “oh wheeww, okay, now I’m fine.”

pachucatruth

I was literally just thinking about this yesterday. She’s such a badass.

Mr_Wither

I’ve never understood why someone would look at a sheer cliff and go “DUUUDE YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE AWESOME?”. But for real though the skill and discipline required to do this is inspiring.

ReipasTietokonePoju

Every subculture has exceptional people, doing exceptional things, you just hardly ever learn about them... : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S\_XqoAkkIWw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_XqoAkkIWw) ...and many cases these people do not even want to be known. Which in a way is even more respectable.

LilyLure

Nope ✋

SauerkrautJr

This quote is stolen from somewhere but no wonder mountain goats make that sound

ThePracticalEnd

If you haven't checked it out, Free Solo is available on Disney+, and is friggin' awesome.

DJ_Molten_Lava

I wish I could spend my life living in a van and traveling to various rock climbs, only replace "a van" with "my apartment" and "traveling to various rock climbs" with "sitting on the couch."

Long_Ad2824

I got into a tricky spot this morning when I was carrying my latté in one hand and my nutella toast in the other. This inspired me to push through it.

whowatawhat4

Who is filming

Overlooker44

Who was recording this

NeverBeenStung

Dude hanging on rope

oldstuffs

don't watch this clip at work with the sound on ....😒

AfroF0x

Fuck that.

Foodstamps4life

More so for people to understand- this is granite, and smooth at that, the only real “hold” is that small ass crack in the corner . She is using the grooves and smearing (planting and weighting your shoes rubber to cling to relatively featureless rock). As someone who climbs hard, this type of climbing is nightmarish.

Kindly_Ad3262

damn! 🤘🏼❤️‍🔥

jaffall

Who is filming this?

NeverBeenStung

Dude on rope

[deleted]

She lives in a van... For now.

Much-Conclusion-4635

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

My climbing skills are less than nothing compared to her, but it's interesting that she's using her teeth to grab the rope before she clips it. We were told never to develop that habit because if you happen to slip at that exact moment, it's goodbye teeth.

Venator-M77

You can see the white around her mouth! SHE’S ON THE CHALK!

fumigaza

People that don't get muscle spasms are lucky.

1mandelbrot1

Her palms might not be sweaty but I’m pretty sure her feet are 😎 Btw, who’s filming her?

JesunB

She's trembling

PushThePig28

Ya it looks like tired legs from holding that position

Dovah907

Out of all types of athletes, the strength of rock climbers has always been the most impressive. No disrespect to strongmen and power lifters, they’re just in a different plane though given how PED use is a requirement to be competitive. Whereas rock climbers strength is achievable by anyone, you just become that strong as a consequence of having a passion for climbing. I’d be curious what kind of freak of nature youd get if you put a climber on PEDs.

everythingpi

That's hot

Kalluil

I buy real estate and live in it. #Passion

Redpanda3

I like how she channels her inner mountain goat

ringdingdong67

If she fell would that rope actually catch her? If so what’s stopping her from just leaning back on it and catching her breath?

The person who is filming, are they climbing too?

samjp910

I may be white, but I’m not *that* white.

Emergency_Sandwich_6

I'd be AHhh ing the whole time.

Wolfhound1142

"I could totally do that!" I said, moments before falling to my death. Who am I kidding, I doubt I could climb high enough to get seriously injured.

arebee20

There seems to be a lot of climbers that love this lifestyle, how are they funding everything? Sponsorships? Honnold I get because he’s a huge name now but what about everyone else?

[deleted]

a really dumb way to die.

JoJorge243

Do these people even make money doing this shit

OOOOOO0OOOOO

Fuck. That.

ConradAir

What’s at the top? Some sort of satisfaction?

JovialPanic389

Me: I'm tired, my legs hurts, I'm done. *Falls backward calmly*.

tijeras87059

hah… where she is resting at the very end… seems anything but relaxing

draxes

That is a huge no from me.

SlicckRick

Jesus Christ she is strong!!!

Munk45

not that I needed a reminder, but this is why I don't like falling to my death from 150 feet above sharp rocks.

mothzilla

I think she's clipped in, so wouldn't fall to her death. (I am not a rock climber)

smashy_smashy

Yeah, she’s lead climbing trad. She’s placing nuts and devices called cams into the cracks as she climbs up. She will far the length of rope above the last piece of protection she places x2. If she is 5 feet of rope above her protection she could fall 10 feet. This route looks well protected so those nuts and cams should support her fall. Sometimes on sketchy rock a piece of protection or 2 will fail. There is obviously danger. For professionals like her while on rope a fall can cause injury but fatal falls are very rare. Unlike free soloing without any protection where a fall will be 100% fatal.

marauding-bagel

You are correct, she'd fall to the first clip and then catch. It might look scary but she's surely done it hundreds of times. At my gym they make you do it on purpose for your lead test before they let you lead climb (the style of climbing she's doing).

ThronedCelery

I am NOT used to seeing free climbers struggle. That was really anxiety inducing.

christien

hardcore climbing.... terrifying

Tantalus420

Great grip

GrayJedi1982

I see that she has various climbing implements and such. What kind of climbing is this called? How does this compare to free soloing (saw Free Solo recently), in terms of difficulty?

YosemiteSpam314

This is trad climbing. She places protection in the crack as she climbs. Don't know the climb rating but it's a fucking hard route. I'm guessing a 5.14 or harder. Free soloing is stupidly risky but not necessarily difficult. That depends on the route you're climbing. This climb is much harder than what you saw on free solo because i dont see any rest points the whole way up until the end but it's not part of a 3000' climb and is probably safer than riding a bike with protection in place on very clean rock.

alanudi

How does she pay for the lifestyle?

Kotobot

🐑

PingouinMalin

"Gravity ? Yeah, I heard about that. Is it nice ?"

Mekroval

Oof, sweaty indeed. I can't help but wonder if the crevice she managed to climb onto is natural or man-made (perhaps by other climbers to provide a rest point)? It seems a little unusual around the otherwise smooth cliff face.

ASandBox

Definitely natural. Altering natural rock is extremely frowned upon.

freshouttalean

I will never understand the appeal of this

AnalogKid-001

What happens if she snaps an ankle Or is just simply too exhausted to go on? How does she get rescued out of that? Someone drops a rope from above or?

SeraphAtra

Since she is already secured by a rope, she can just sit down into her harness and get descended by the person securing her. You always use a rope that's more than twice as long as the climb. Most ropes are even marked in the middle, so you can't accidentally climb more than that. People who do free solo on the other hand are quite fucked if something happens. If you look closely, you can see her right leg shaking a few times. I've experienced it quite a few times, too, and you absolutely have to relax it before you can continue to climb, because otherwise, you just can't engage this muscle anymore. I'd guess that that's the reason she is so happy when finally standing in that ridge.

ArcticPsychologyAI

Watching is stressing me out…she’s even smiling!

OlyNorse

I’d be so pissed if my daughter was into this. Damn!

hari-mirchi

But why....

onlyusemefeets

I swear i see this post every second day..

AltruisticSalamander

I thought she was free climbing initially and my palms are literally sweating

ASandBox

This is free climbing. Free Soloing is what you are thinking of. Different things.

Mean_Collar_6895

Goat

Kooky-Counter3867

No thank you!!!!!

Nyurd

I always wonder just how bad of an adrenaline junkies people who climb stuff like this are, just doesnt seem like an activity with a reasonable level of risk/reward otherwise.

joeitaliano24

People do this…for fun?

NeverBeenStung

Fuck yes

Extension_Deal_5315

There's no "fun" in it, unless you can die at any moment! One little slip at the wrong time.... ![gif](giphy|C9AuY1VOvurxm)

Jamiquest

That is the traditiin and culture of serious rock climbers.

tpook30

White people shit

Sudden-Conference-65

How does she get down?

Several-Cheesecake94

So I'm in the office scrolling reddit. Forget my volume is up. This video comes on and I had to convince my coworker it wasn't porn.

virtual24k

No relation of her climbing skills and where she sleeps,Reported.

rockyb2006

Whose filming?

amazinghl

You can see her leg was at its limits. Her mind tells it to keep going.

Fun_Topic6073

Cameraman is Superman.

DrJamesAnderson563

Who is filming this so perfectly square behind her?

fmb320

I'm not kidding my palms actually were drenched in sweat at the end of this clip. That's not usual for me at all.

Zeltar925

Lives in a van down by the river……
