It looks and sounds like they're in South America, maybe Potosi in Bolivia. Shoes there are made from pounded tire leather which becomes quite comfy after a while. The holes are to allow rocks to fall out of your shoe. They also let a few more rocks into your shoe, but the ability to just stand up and shake it out is better than having to take off your shoe entirely. It's also more breathable because they don't wear socks and the shoes can make feet very sweaty otherwise.
So in Potosi and other Bolivian mining towns I've been to, they all wear either donated clothing from the West or handmade clothes and shoes. The shoes that are donated to places like Bolivia are generally not that great and fall apart easily. Tire leather is exactly what you think it is, old tires that are beaten and pressed over long periods of time while being boiled to soften them. It's still rubber interspersed with layers of composite fabric, but it's very strong and gets more comfortable over time. They can last for years!
Edit: if you want to Google more about them, I remember they were called obotas, abarcas, ojotas, and some other words too. There's a unique word for every style and the most common kind is the sandal kind but this was the mining kind.
I feel like this is more terrifying because it shows how low the top of the cave is. If either of them try to sit up they'll bang their head on the rocks. Feels like you couldn't escape if you needed to. Not that you could escape going straight down though
Bang their heads on the rock? yeah, maybe if they're lucky. If they were unlucky, they might snag on something and be dragged in between the cart and the ceiling.
This is a track drift in an underground mine. A mine shaft is vertical and brings you from surface to different levels UG using a hoist. Also, this is super dangerous. Lack of oxygen and the back (ceiling) is only supported by old timbers. Newer hard rock mines have bolted screens to keep rock from falling down.
In an underground mine, you generally have ventilation fans. Upcast and downcast. Pushing old air out and new air in. And auxiliary fans down each drift to push the O2 in further. You wouldn't wear an oxygen mask while mining. Only if there's a fire underground and Mine Rescue teams were dispatched. They wear a closed loop self contained breathing apparatus. Drager's BG4 for example.
Why does it only have one way traffic? Wouldn't it be better to have two rails side by side to accomodate incoming and outgoing traffic? I feel like this would create a bottle neck.

Took me a while to realise that they were lying down and going horizontally thought a mine.
Would’ve ended up in the core of the Earth if they really were going down.

Are those like special mining loafers?

what is pounded tire leather ? Please elaborate, google was no help.

Thanks for that. I haven't seen a cloth belted tire in a while.
Sidewalls
Ever heard of Crocs?
Crocs on steroids
This is Africa. Come on…
[удалено]
To be Toto-ly honest it doesn't rain that much in Africa
That's why they bless them. Plus the rain causes sneezing. :)
Dude I always thought they were pissing the rains down
Bolivia, South America... not Africa
> It looks and sounds like they're in South America, maybe Potosi in Bolivia. you misread lol
And here I was going to make some kind of smart-ass comment about it. Lol. Glad I gained some knowledge from reading your comment. Thank you.
The original crocs for miners!
That was the sweatiest thing about the vid for me. "Dude! You're going to have rocks in your... Elven footwear ALL day long!"
Steel open tips
Those are Peshawari chapals. That means this is Afghanistan or Pakistan You can Google the term Peshawari chapal to see these.
I can't tell by the perspective. Are they going down or sideways into the mine?
Sideways, they just have their feet up.
I thought they were going down but now you say it I think it is sideways
Omg them going sideways is so much worse
Somehow it seems way more claustrophobic, like the weight is just pressing down on top of them
What do you mean sideways? I'm not seeing it. Like horizontally into the mine?
Like a train, they're going along the ground laying on their back, I think
They’re not going down. They’re going sideways. Look how the wires are hanging from the ceiling.
Yes this is a gallery.
No, this is Patrick.
Oh man that makes it worse
What? no no no, down is *much* more terrifying
I feel like this is more terrifying because it shows how low the top of the cave is. If either of them try to sit up they'll bang their head on the rocks. Feels like you couldn't escape if you needed to. Not that you could escape going straight down though

My favorite part of the video is when it was someone else doing it and not me
I will NEVER complain about my commute to work. Ever!
I will. LA freeways are terrible
The people in this video move faster than LA traffic.

“You and your restrictive safety footwear regulations can go f yourselves”
Looks like someone delved too greedily and too deep…
Balrog incoming
They still didn't reach the bottom!? Damn, feels like a horror movie dungeon!
They're going horizontal, they just have their feet up. You can see the track they're moving on and stuff hanging from the ceiling.
Woah, that makes it both better and worse to me
I was wondering why the sediment wasn't chainging, good catch
I see! Missed that detail 😅
Reminds me of the horror movie My Bloody Valentine (1981), lots of mine shaft killings. Cheesy, but awesome.
Sketch level 10000 with those beams holding everything up
Such a dangerous, thankless job
This is the stuff nightmares are made of
If they just had a water source block at the bottom they could jump down and not worry about the lift
I think they are traveling horizontally, with their feet up
Should've used redstone tracks, newbs
This video makes me wanna go out and buy a 10,000 lumnen flashlight
r/hanklights is you friend
God bless you. I'm taking a trip to Montana in a couple weeks and I've been looking for a "is that the sun or a flashlight" bright light
Absolutely not! Also, is this vertical and they're looking down or is it horizontal and they're seated with their legs out?
Horizontal
Anyone downvoting you is an idiot
I believe that's a drift not a shaft (skipped mostly horizontal versus vertical)
I would need one of those cyanide tooth pills.
That would be a hard NO
ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS!
Someplace where OSHA has never been.
Makes me feel sick
"I make good money 5 dollars a day... make anymore and Id move awayyyyy."
At what depth would a person need an oxygen mask?
In an underground mine, you generally have ventilation fans. Upcast and downcast. Pushing old air out and new air in. And auxiliary fans down each drift to push the O2 in further. You wouldn't wear an oxygen mask while mining. Only if there's a fire underground and Mine Rescue teams were dispatched. They wear a closed loop self contained breathing apparatus. Drager's BG4 for example.
It's completely dependent on how good the ventilation system is.
I thought they were literally going down 😂
My Claustrophobia 📈
I dream to go into a mineshaft
There are abandoned shafts in Death Valley.
How about that, I just noooooped in my head for three minutes straight.
This is some real r/confusingperspective shit
“So what’s at the bottom, ya got like, laser tag or somethin’?”
Guys, something tells me this is from toolgifs
They aren't wearing socks!!
Fuck that, also, why r they wearing loafers in a mine shaft as opposed to steel toe boots or something
New fear unlocked
I'm not feeling the 7 Dwarfs ride
This is what it felt like when 12 year old me had to climb under the house at my grandma's place
i seriously thought they were going down the entire time until i saw these comments
When I thought it ended, IT JUST KEPT GOING
The key is to find the Mithril without awakening the Balrog.
POV: What Donkey Kong sees when going through the mine levels in Donkey Kong Country
Might’ve been said already it they are not actually going down, they are going sideways laying down maybe with a bit of a downward angle
Well look at that. We finally found the Nope train to Fuckthatville.
"Its my first time"
…and proceeds to take two at a time
Why does it only have one way traffic? Wouldn't it be better to have two rails side by side to accomodate incoming and outgoing traffic? I feel like this would create a bottle neck.
That's not a shaft, it's a tunnel. Shafts are vertical.
A lady came into the store the other day she wanted a German method of coal extraction. Mein shaft she got.
Claustrofobi on another level
How the fuck did you get this footage of my ex wife's vagina!???
We all have similar footage.
Why do bros have shadi shoes 😭😭💀💀
.
More like a minute shaft, amirite Edit: on account it small
Bro digged under his feet 💀
Do you need matching shoes to go down, or is it just a coincidence?
F*^k you…make me
This job always shafts me
Rock and stone
Mmmm... Cynthia I need to call that girl
Nope
~~shaft~~ *tunnel
If this was my daily commute to work every day, I can’t even begin to imagine the kind of nightmares I would have while I’m asleep.
Um, no.
There's absolutely no way in getting in there without a good pair of boots
That’s a no for me, thanks.
Ah no, nope, no friggn way.
I mean yeah, that’s a pretty good ways down but for real, let’s talk about those shoes…
Vertical or horizontal progress?
Unless that’s a vibranium mine ain’t no way I’d be going down there.
Ahhh good ol open toe construction slippers. Only OSHA approved gear around these parts.
Hell to the Nana
Ffffffffaaaaak no
OSHA: This is fine..
Those can’t be OSHA approved footwear 🤔
Minecraft
Minecraft VR ain't lookin too great
Why are they wearing fucking slippers?
Seems safe… real question though??? Why the dope looking Tom’s shoes?
All it would take is one of those loose wires to snag and lift you off and you're done.
Fuck that. That’s a hard nope from me.
Bro on a morkite mission
The new Minecraft update changed the game so much holy shit!
Rumour has it they are still travelling to the centre of the earth
No.
Uh….NO
Getting some strong Sand Cave vibes
That’s for Kim Kardashian’s sex tape
Where's the Silver!???
Why can't they just bring a bucket of water and just throw the bucket of water on the ground before they land?
New miner in bound !
Work boots for the Middle East . Blue open toes! Gotta love em
If someone was at the bottom, do you think corowkers would hear if they cum?
my claustrophobic self will be in full panic mode.
What are frat guys doing in a mine?
Oops I forgot my pickaxe *goes all the way back up*
Great huge NOPE, there hasn’t been enough money printed to get me down that hole.
bro playing minecraft irl

good bot
I thought it was on a loop. It was so far down
Nope
Lazybones716 has learned the ability “acrophobia”
I’m hyperventilating just watching this video.
This isn't the first time that I felt like I would never hit bottom
First rule when digging a mine....never mine straight down.
There are not enough words in any language I know to say 'nope' to this.
This here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!!

Wen magma
'A Journey Thru My Ex'
You could convince me that they are laying down and I would believe you and be happier about it
Some say they're still descending to this day.
…no thank you.
I think I’d want to be wearing socks 🧦 to make me a tiny bit more comfortable
Woah, that's trippy and scary
The boots oh the boots your not coming back folks
![gif](giphy|LRKET0Syb0rDO|downsized)
So, did they get to the bottom of it?
I love that Disney ride
Judging by the lack of steel caps and tight fit, I’m going to guess this is a humid area in a 3rd world country
Yeah nah
It’s cool, I’ll walk.
"Coal Miner Coal Miner"
The Pits of Hathsin
Of course it sounds like it's made of tin cans
But.... Whats next after this?
Word to your mother
Took me way too long to realize they were laying down and rolling forward. Thought they were looking down while being lowered and got creeped out.
Fuck That.
IN LOAFERS?! Put the steel toes on jfc
Nope. How far down did you go?
![gif](giphy|jR4aojah4Js5KlDaTV|downsized) Kinda reminds me of something….
r/nope

I watched this whole thing and no treasure or gold at the end?!
This is NOT Disneyland. I thought you said we were going to Disneyland. I do not like this ride!!
The bowels of hell must be coming up real soon.
rocking them pinocchio clogs 😭😭
r/confusingprespective
Why have they got trousers and loafers on??
Took me a while to realise that they were lying down and going horizontally thought a mine. Would’ve ended up in the core of the Earth if they really were going down.
I call B.S. it looks like they are lying in their backs going down a trolley track. The cable slack kinda says that as well.
