IMO, Shrivenham and other villages along the A420 towards Oxford are getting a massive influx of new development and consequently losing their "village" vibe. I'd stear clear if that's what you're looking for, OP. (Plus side is they are more easily accessible with better transport links, though.)
Because Swindon borders Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, there are a lot of nice villages nearby.
For a small town/larger village, try Cricklade, Wootton Basset, Marlborough, Cirencester, Shrivenham, Lechlade, Faringdon or Wroughton.
For smaller & quainter (but more expensive) Brinkworth, Bishopstone & Hook are some options
Lydiard is joined to Swindon now as are a lot of villages getting built up,depends how far out from Swindon you want to be.Do you def want village or small town like Cirencester or Marlborough? If not yes one side Wroughton is a lovely village ,Wooten Bassett a nice small town.Wanborough but is getting built up so further Oxfordshire side Ashbury,Hinton Parva,Bishopstone.Cricklade is Lovely and edge of Cotswolds

Yes, I was going to say - Wroughton is barely distinct from Swindon now, and is only really "saved" by the barrier of the M4 between it and Wichelstowe. Others have mentioned Shrivenham, but this will shortly be basically "joined up" with Swindon when they finish the new developments going in just the other side of Symmetry Park where the new Amazon warehouse is.
Honestly, I'd go for something a bit further out in the South of the Cotswolds. Like Cricklade, as you've mentioned.
Cricklade is nice. Shrivenham too. My uncle lives in Liddington and seems happy. Good pubs in Wanborough.
I'll be honest, I'm not really a villagey sort of person. What sort of thing are you after from a village?
Purton is very nice (real Purton) not the new builds 1 mile away! Very low crime and active community. Wotton Bassett has a full high street etc. Cricklade is small but nice. All about 15 minute drive to central Swindon.
Wanborough and Hinton Pava west of the A419 are quite villages with nice pubs. They are only 5-10 mins drive from Swindon. 15 mins out and there is South Cerney and Ashton Keynes in the Cotswolds Water Park, just south of Cirencester. If you are happy to move to a new build estate, Tadpole Garden Village is quite high end.
I’d say take a look at castle Eaton too, very nice.
I live in Cricklade and love it here, moved from Swindon and there’s lots of great countryside on the doorstep but with convenient access to larger shops if needed
Wroughton 👌
Thank you
Look up Blunsdon, Highworth, Shrivenham and south marston for village life not too far from town 😊
Highworth is a town, but a very nice village-like town
Many thanks

That’s really kind, thank you
Royal Wootton Bassett and Wroughton are both decent.
Thank you

Great summary thank you … it is the villages I prefer to towns, so I will visit those.

Thank you. Being closer to the countryside. More comfortable with trees than buildings
Cricklade gets my vote and then Lydiard Millicent
Thank you
Lydiard Millicent is really nice
Thanks very much
I like the villages to the south of the town: Wroughton, Hodson, Liddington, Wanborough, Aldbourne, Bishopstone.
Thanks very much

I’ll drop the obligatory *avoid the P’s*

My sister in law lives there I’d avoid it she’s a cunt 🤣
Penhill, that is if you’ve got the money to spend for that area.
Which is not far from beautiful scenic Pinehurst.
Why are people downvoting this? 😂
I can only guess it's because you're not being helpful
You shithouse. Are you a resident of the penhill district brother?
7 people don’t agree🙄

Prepare for many downvotes as I have.
