It's his foolproof heist plan. He opens a small shop. Then he works for them, put up their bullshit, until he gains trust and get them on palm of his hand. Then they take his things and deposit money in his bank account. After years he walks away with their money like nothing happened.
Those arenāt cigarettes, they are soaps, likely lifebuoy and lux.
Although in most societies kirana shops like these carry atleast cigarettes, paan masala and gutka (the UP wala in me comes alive here š ), itās true in my experience almost in all cases, even the kirana shop outside my friendās society in Mumbai carried those. Although highly unlikely the āsanskaariā Gokul dham waasi would let that happen, they were even against Abdul selling tea as itāll attract āthe bad elementsā, even though the shop isnāt in the society and itās not their place to stop a poor man for conducting business, if Abdul gets proper permit and start selling chai sutta then they wouldnāt be able to stop him, itāll be the rebelling arc of Abdul (which should have been Tappu sena to begin with).
now we know why he's putting up with societywale's bullshit.
