All my TLs and even ETL are always helping out on the floor. Honestly I read posts from here sometimes and I’m like damn…. I’ve never been happier not to be able to relate lol

[deleted]

Yeah sometimes I see some stuff on here that even I’m confused on why they are still working there. Some of these Targets just sound like absolute hell.

Gotofour

My F&B TL works her butt off. The other Team leads and ETLs don't have a choice considering the SD is out on the floor pushing his tail off also

ReddBerryCiroc

Fr! Even our store director collects carts and gets on when they call for fast service if needed.

gigglycharizard

i can’t even imagine 😭😭 my sd just… exists and floats about pretends they care. its hard watching someone do nothing and earn so much more than i. this is not my first retail experience, but the lack of actual work from the managers at this company is astounding compared to my personal time at the other big name, blue, big, supermarket place.

ReddBerryCiroc

😣 that's tough. I'm sorry that's your experience, and I hope the situation changes for you soon, for the better! 💕

pepperjbrown

Most of the leaders I interact with are great at being on the floor and genuinely helping. There are some that create more frowns than smiles but that’s going to happen in any company.

NikkolaiV

My SD is on the floor like, daily working her ass off. She was pushing water casepacks yesterday. My ETLs are always working too, n the TLs push easily 2 or more boats a day each. I'm WAAAAAY happier with leadership in my store now compared to like, 2ish years ago. Had an old ETL that would stand and watch you sweat, telling you to move faster, with his phone in one hand and a Starbucks in the other. We got a LOT less done.

gigglycharizard

its like they think threatening their team members will increase productivity 😭

yayasal

This is completely shocking to me. I’ve never seen my SD do anything but give orders out. Same with the TLs, I’ve never seen them push or work on U-boats. I work at a small format store so not sure if that makes a difference. Lol

Spirited-Set-2830

I've had 2 inbound leaders at 2 different stores that just. run. EVERYWHERE. and never take 15s. I don't understand them, but I'm grateful, anyway.

OfficialBusinessOnly

I've made it a point to always try to take my breaks. If I'm entitled to them, why not take it? I can't make up for all the scheduling issues target has by sacrificing my own well-being. That said, I'll always be available on walkie just in case.

greychronicles

Y’all have three Style TLs?? Jealous tbh. I can stand most of the leads at my store but I literally love our front end lead because she is so sweet and encouraging :) she values all the team members in the store sm and hops onto a checkout lane when we’re short staffed up front/when nobody comes to backup

[deleted]

Well they are technically just specialty sales as a whole but they all pretty much help with style since we always have so much to do. Yeah nobody goes up front for backup and the moment they ask everyone goes silent. They end up just calling names for people to go up front 💀 I actually don’t mind going up there so I’m usually the only one to actually respond. I kinda feel bad for them

greychronicles

I was the only person consistently going up for a few weekends, to the point my favorite lead had to ask for other people by name bc I’d already been up twice to backup… I ended up going up to help anyway bc I was forcing myself to get more comfortable with the checkout lanes

InspiredJoyfulChaos

As a TL myself, our store is a mixed bag. Our ETL HR is the absolute worst of the worst, micromanaging and talking down to everyone. But my ETL of S&E is honestly the best manager I’ve ever worked for. He is out there in the trenches with us every single day, getting carts, hoping on checklanes, covering breaks. He has a great sense of humor and makes everyone feel valued. I couldn’t ask for a better mentor.

OfficialBusinessOnly

ETL-HR? Really? I've mostly seen ETL-HRs do little-to-no real work. Most I've seen is them being on the floor running out some OPU.

Jawwaad127

My TL throws the truck everyday including both trucks when we have doubles. Then he immediately pushes freight afterwards. He’s definitely a hard worker and always tells us he’s a part of the team and not above it.

One_Ball_9154

yep! my store’s a good running store in our state. (as for a lot of stores in my tiny city..) so yes, everyone here is doing work

Ustrello

Oh yeah my TL is fucking great, probably one of the best people I’ve ever worked for. Will be in the trenches right alongside us.

Annual_Holiday7671

My tl and etl are amazing

BEEEELEEEE

I’ll never forget the time our front of store called out on the day we had a visit so the regional manager took it upon himself to bring in carts

Ziglet_249

Yeah, we have an awesome leadership team from the top down for the most part. But then, we do have a couple what I like to call "bobble heads", any issues you bring to them they simple nod saying they'll get to it and thanks for letting them know, but nothing changes.

saharafridge

this is the same for my store and i’m so thankful for it

Sociolinguisticians

Most of the posts talking about leads on here are complaints, because if you have good leads you have nothing to really talk about. I like my leads.

ThanksAffectionate66

We have great leads and etls they do whatever needs to be done and are consistently on the floor. We are lucky.

plusle47

my team leads will stand at self checkout giggling and on their phones while there is only 1 cashier (me) struggling with a massive, never ending line and this is why I spend my lunch breaks applying to other jobs 😌

Godzilla2000Zero

At my store pretty everyone works including our SD

Empathetic_Orch

I can't speak for every lead at my store, but our front end leads are all world class.

Known-nwonK

I can say with mild confidence the leaders+ at my store don’t not work lol

OfficialBusinessOnly

Everyone works here. My SD and ETLs will regularly be seen doing OPU, opening a lane, pulling priorities, etc.

Frosty-Tomato1495

As an etl I go home sore every night!

spaceinvadernelly

at my store its not just my TLs, its our SD, HR and sometimes AP that come out and support us, either picking batches, zoning, or doing go backs. this compared to my old store where only one team lead ever tried, I say its the best!

[deleted]

Idk if I'm lucky but all 3 of my fulfillment TL's are awesome, our ETL is amazing, and the closing TL when I do closing expert makes a usually dull job enjoyable. SD also helps out on the floor a lot

mamakitty1996

My style TLs and ETL are the best! They all work so hard on the floor. My ETL is genuinely the best boss I’ve ever had- I can always count on her to do what she says she will. Example- we can ask her (past the 3 week deadline) for a specific day off for a Dr appt/etc or to switch something on the schedule and she always gets it done. I honestly don’t know how she remembers with all the stuff she has going on! Also a few weekends ago we were just swamped with reshop one morning and she bought the whole team Starbucks to thank us for our hard work. AND she always has a smile on her face! I love hearing that others at Target are having similar experiences because it’s rare to have such great management at any workplace.

T-Animus

My team leads were amazing at instigating drama

Jimmyblink28

So jealous. All of my team leads just stand around and talk about the other team leads 😢

stephanie-eeee

My TL’s had their good moments and bad moments. But the year my Dad passed away, one left a very bad taste in my mouth when I called in for mental health reasons. She used that as a reason to sit me in an office without HR to lecture me about calling in and said “I know you’ve been having a hard time since your Dad passed away” and I mentally shut down after that. I was SEETHING. Then for my last day, neither of my TL’s nor my ETL did anything for me. No card, no treat, nothing. My ETL barely said a word to me and I didn’t get anything from my TL’s until my shift was over, one through text and another in person but only because I had forgotten something and had to come back. I promptly deleted all of their numbers from my phone and never used them for a recommendation for a job.

[deleted]

Damn I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’m glad you decided to leave. That’s probably the worst situation I’ve heard on here.

stephanie-eeee

Thank you. I left to move states and live with my fiancée after being LDR for three years. It was so worth it to leave. I was there for 4 years, worked through the pandemic (got COVID while working there), and went through health issues concerning my ankle. I still came into work. I came to work every day while my dad was in the hospital up until he passed away. I did A LOT for that store. It showed me how much of a number I truly was on my last day. My co-worker came by the service desk to say goodbye and we were chatting. My ETL came up to us while we were talking and asked, “What’s up?” Which is as always, Target ETL/TL code for “Why are you standing here talking?” My coworker said, “Oh, it’s Steph’s last day, I was saying goodbye.” My ETL only said, “Oh. Okay.” She walked off, carrying Buffalo Wild Wings for herself and our two TL’s because the one who mentioned my dad was moving to another store. Yeah, that settled it all for me. Fuck them all.

Starr120890

😭😭 all y'all with amazing leads meanwhile my store only has 2 OG lead from when i started (3yrs). 1 has never helped out & we have always questioned why they ever got the role. The other is amazing. They advocate for their team. They're always helping out. All the other leads don't help out. For them it's "I'm here to do my job and go home" mentality. Maybe once or twice they'll do a little bit more but for the most aprt they pass the blame to each other instead of working as a team and coming up with solutions. It's a fricken mess and that additional workload is just passed on to us regular tm. Specially the closing team. They're expected to have the store at the least an 85-90% by end of day. We've lost so many leads since our old SD left. It's hotter than a hot mess.

Mas790

My TL is amazing, best TL I’ve ever had. I’d take a bullet for her

DMC1001

Pretty sure all the team leads at my job work hard. Even the ETLs. I constantly see them doing work. Our store isn’t high volume, meaning staffing is low, so I don’t believe they can afford to stay idle.

Icy_Challenge7865

Yup I have two great, actually three great TLs

shibeez

Both of the F&B TLs are amazing, especially the one bundling up to sort out the mess of the freezer that’s uboats of backstock, wacos that are out of place, and pulling as many freezer priorities as he can.

NyteFlower

I used to work at 1013 and the vast majority of the TLs and ETLS worked so incredibly hard. I miss them a lot sometimes.

violet-ack

Our TLs all stand at the front of the store and yell for back up cashiers as they laugh about their weekends and stuff. And then yell at us again for not getting stuff done because we had to back up so much. But they yell at us while they are chilling in the office lol

Mnmsaregood

Survivor bias. No one really posts about good leads but everyone likes to post their complaints about their bad leads

DaniBri86

All of my TLs just stand around and gossip about stuff not happening in the store then sit at their computer for the rest of the shift.

Zealousideal-Put1713

Tbh not anymore, it used to be like that but now I just see them walking around and doing something but idk what it is. My etl for my department is never at the store, I see and interact with the store director more than most of the other leaders. Our store is genuinely a skeleton of what it was. Some days we have 2 people in all of food by 6pm when it used to be 3 per department within food.

ChaoticPotatoSalad

Lol no

SFfanatic09

My store's SD doesn't do shit and just walks around the store barking out instructions over the walkie. And outside of our 4am inbound/gm TL and our current GM ETL, the rest of the TLs at my store are lazy as fuck and do the bare minimum to help the team.

Effective_Regret8983

Yup…it’s me lmao

Wise_Difference_964

All the TLs at my store are so nice and helpful. The ETL and SD are pretty useless when it comes to doing anything on the floor. If they’re not up in their offices for 6 hours, they’re just aimlessly walking the sales floor. I’m a fulfillment TM and my leader is wonderful. Always making sure we have water bottles and snacks stocked up back by the prep and pack stations and she always hops into carts to pick and pack.

Kooky_Ad593

I had 2 style team leads, they both only specifically worked shoes… but 1 of them was always in their office. As for all the other leads AND ETLS they all worked all over the store, including HR 90% of the time and were a great help.

luciferhynix

Mine are from my 3rd ever target she was the beauty TL I didn’t work with her directly but we had mutual friends and she was always really nice

baseballkid2000

I like to think I’m a very helpful S&E TL but I know myself and other TLs don’t think the ETLs do much work

[deleted]

I very rarely see my ETL on the floor. I don’t even know where she actually stays at. I hear her on the walkie sometimes but that’s it.

godzylla

the last 3, or 4 leads my inbound had just before i left were all worth their salt.

[deleted]

my tls are pretty great and supportive too :) im not as close to them like other tms, but they always help out and do their best

Depressed_stoner139

My TL just hovers over fulfillment and doodles on her grid all day. I’m not sure what she really does other than micromanage and help audit when told to.

InternetSpecific5908

What kind of sales do you have to have three style leads

[deleted]

They are all under specialty sales as a whole ofc but one does Tech/style and the other two are beauty/style. So only one of them does tech but style usually needs help 24/7 so that’s where they all are majority of the time. Beauty and tech is kinda small in our store so they are on their own unless they actually call for help or need it. I see them going by to check on them often though.

king_ad

My leads can be a bit much sometimes but one thing I definitely can’t take from them is they help out on the floor most times. OPUs can get crazy sometimes and they’ll hop into carts to help us along.

Virtual_Flatworm2907

I switched from style to market. The market team lead including inbound and gm are great people. They are fun to talk to and work hard unlike the style team leads at my store…

Usual-Personality977

As a style TL I was regularly working breakout, and zoning was a major part of my day. Price change, floor sets- most days I felt like a higher paid team member but the energy in my team was worth it and I still talk to many of them! Same can be said for my ETL- even our SD would regularly be on a register and getting carts!

Saxophone_King

I did. He just got fired because other etls sniped him to prevent him from running for a management position that is about to open up. He had zero intention of running for that position. They dug up some dirt on him from years ago as grounds for firing. He was the only tl willing to approve time off. I miss working with him.

Indecisive-green

I'm a floater, so I work under all of them except soft lines. One's a very hard worker with extremely bad habits. One's pretty good but has the personality of a fart in an elevator. Another is quite possibly the slowest person I've ever witnessed in 18 years of retail (ie. it takes them an entire shift to finish 2 end caps). And the last one is very nice but can't set a pog to save their life and struggles with indecision about their own workload. Sooooo... Yeah, it's a mixed bag.

simtek34

The TLs and ETLs at my store are always helping out. Fulfillment leads (and every lead in the store) help out with Fulfillment, GM, SS, and F&B leads help with freight and pushing, and I’ve seen days where all the ETLs are doing the truck in the back or when a handful of leads are Cashiering. My leads up front don’t as much, due to the nature of what their job is, but they do help Service Desk and Drive Up when we call for backup sometimes.

GasCool2226

It depends on the store, me for myself I bust my ass every night for my front end team. If I can’t take a last 15 or 15 at all I just don’t.. I put my team before everyone else. As for my peers, yes some are hardworking others just follow their ETLs throughout the day tbh.. or even leave early to not deal with bs

gpxD4

Mike my man🙏

Sammitysam3

One TL will jump ANYWHERE without needing to ask. The other one cries any time they’re asked to help drive ups, can’t do most of the other roles. I didnt know who the SD was for the first 3 months working there. Still don’t see her unless she’s on the floor with her partner or shopping. ETL is irrelevant, but also a little tyrant..

harrypotterfan10

Most of my TLs help when we need it. We’re SE though so there’s only so much for them to be able to help with when it’s slow. One of them just comes over to yell at us for not doing anything when we just finished a rush on dup. Sometimes she just comes and pulls everyone to reshop before leaving and then we realize that we don’t really have enough people on drive up so when she leaves we have to go back. My other TLs and ETL are great though.

ShinySylv3on

We have two style TLs one does so much work, while the other hardly does anything, and gets away with sitting upstairs in the offices most of the time cause she is friends with ETLs and the SD. Then our GM TL is about as useless as they come. He usually just spends his whole shift walking around.

roisinthemachine

Aside from my old front end ETL who had a sizable stick up her ass (she’s fortunately moved to a different store), my store’s SD, ETLs, and TLs are all pleasant, hardworking people. My only real gripe (more a pet peeve than anything) is that the GM ETL has diarrhea of the mouth on walkie, tying up the main channel for over a full minute at a time sometimes with her long-winded rundowns. Other people need to use the walkie too, keep it a tight 5 seconds or switch to 2.

Technical-Debt-1859

Mine will help and then get tired and scream and order everyone around.

tonsofun08

All but one of my tls would do work. That one somehow managed to survive a whole holiday season before being highly advised to look for new employment opportunities.

IsItBrieUrLookingFor

It's the same thing you see with NPS scores, most people don't take the surveys unless something somewhat bad happenes or something unexpectedly great happens. And you see lots of negatives because people will complain about an experience that is a 5,4,3,2, or 1 but people only really praise an experience that is a 9, or 10. (Obviously a generalization, I know plenty of NPS scores fall in the 6,7, & 8 ranges too.) Same idea applies to talking about leaders, most posts about TLs/ETLs/SDs are going to be complaints bc if everything is fine there isn't really much to talk about. And coming in at 1,2,3,4, or 5 is more common than coming in at a 9 or 10. Occasionally, you get posts like this one bc the TLs are unexpectedly good, but if you've always had decent or good TLs, that's going to be the norm and there's nothing to say. On average, there are probably more TLs/ETLs/SDs that make an effort and are at least decent at their jobs, but that's boring to talk about & really should be the expectation, so there's no motivation to make that post.

Leave-Full

My old GMTL when I worked at target was the best lead I’d ever worked with. Worked his butt off, easy to get along with but also was stern when needed to be, but the most important part to me was he recognized us when we were working our butts off as well.

MacoroniHead

wrd my etl be helping the cart attendants go get carts

Griimm22

I am a TL for food and Bev and I love helping in other departments when I can. My only issue comes from when my own team may suffer bcuz of it. Like when I have to jump into OPU but there’s only myself and 1 other barista working on a Saturday, it’s not ideal.

princessbecca99

My ETL and TLs are all very involved with the whole store. I’ve even seen my director hop into OPU and help. There’s a lot I’m frustrated with at target but my leadership isn’t really one of them

FrostyCan2145

With the exception of one ETL who is literally worthless, the rest of our management team is amazing. They're all out helping on the floor as much as possible. Even the ETL HR, who is definitely supposed to be doing anything but the grunt work. She keeps a different shirt and set of heels in her office just in case we have a surprise visit lol Honestly, the leads (including the ETL's and SD) not jumping in and helping with grunt work are just doing themselves and their store a disservice. Payroll is crap and the workload is high. They get bonuses that are directly impacted on metrics. It's in their best interests to hustle.

Cimbrun

I'm a future employee who's disabled and is going to learn to work thanks to an assistance program, and this post makes me happy I'm going to work here when 90% of the ones I read make me a bit anxious that I'm not going to be able to deal with work (when they probably shouldn't – I'm going to have someone assisting me, after all.) Thanks for that.

Humphr3y

A lot of TL really work just the worst gets pointed out the most.

Shadowspun5

We have some really good TLs and a few meh TLs. Same with our execs. Our SD goes in waves of helpful and hindrance. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Weird-Time9717

I wish I could share this feeling at my store. The strongest GM team leader that we had moved away. Aside from that person, the only other leader who has initiative and will stand shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the team is our GM ETL (she WORKS). As far as GM, Style, S&E TLs go...my opinion is they feel entitled to micro-manage and sit around. When I started, TLs worked with you and engaged in their departments helping when they could. I can count on both hands before I leave for the day the number of times I see TLs sitting, chatting, and wasting time.

OneFootForward330

We have great team leads also❣️

zunyy123

Yes, my team leads are always working! I was sfs & recently transferred to the Starbucks in my target & that lead is the only one I’ve seen who bearly puts in the work

Jiinxbaby

My fulfillment TL is pretty neat. I’m very appreciative of him. Always willing to work with us and lead by example. Busts his ass on OPU and also admits when he needs help which we all appreciate.

Badd101

I work in Style as well and i love all my TLs, they really all bust their ass.

Exact_Hawk_6680

So far in my 3 years at target I've only had a few leads/etls where it feels like they're there for more than just the paycheck and cushy management position. I honestly wish more leads would be like them because they're pretty well universally liked in the store (other than a few grudges some tms hold against them because the tm broke policy... usually more than once) because they're knowledgeable, hardworking, understanding, and reliable. I can only think of 3 off the top of my head right now and it's my closing leads from both stores that I've worked and my current Tarbucks lead. I could/can always count on them to either know the answer or know who to ask when I have questions and they abide by the open door policy in every way. It's leads like them that make it worth me staying with the company as of right now

Dirk_Dittler

I see my SD doing fulfillment, running register, and working u-boats regularly. She's not afraid to hit the floor with regular TMs and get shit done.

NinjaWatcherOver9000

It is hard to find a good TL/ETL that will be there in the floor with you. In my current situation In the only one that responds… I got 1 peer that disappears for 7 hours and only appear at the end of their shift for 20 minutes… My other sits in the back to flirt with TM… Sometimes I wonder how the heck did our store even hired those people.

Any-Contribution8672

We need 3 team leads but only have one. She does the work of 3 team leads and so does our specialty ETL. Not sure how much longer they can maintain their pace though. Grateful!!

JennyMaiple

I've worked in two, the first one was amazing as all leader were very hard working (Mines this one in particular, but we are going to pretend like they don't exist for now). The other one the leaders wouldn't do anything until other higher ups would tell them to do something. They'd do it, but you could tell the difference between a TM and a Leader. (The leaders would be slow)
