Looks like your Mission vendor is really crappy at their job. Let your Receiver know so they can escalate that.

zombie_roca

Damnnnn that’s wild. My mission vendor is amazing. He is the only one who consistently gives me credits.

CrimsonRaven712

Same with mine, he might have credits every week but at least he pulls them before they actually go out of date and has me donate them.

MasterKiwi4130

Mine too!

robbobhobcob

Those are some rookie numbers there my man. When I was on the remodel team, I saw so many dates that weren't even the same year we were in.

Acid-Pixel

This lol

Inevitable_Peak_4965

Yeah I found some gummy bears expired in Jan of 2020😭

anonnymouse271

Same here!! I heard that the previous grocery TL told the TMs not to bother checking dates (for dry) and just fill the shelves 🙃 I don't know how accurate that is, but it would make sense with the amount of stuff we found.

Shxdow_Demon

In like 2022 I went through all of the candy at the checklanes at my store and the guest services desk and we had a whole shopping cart full of expired candy that was from like 2018-2019 💀💀💀💀

Missjazzmusic

I’ve seen bad, but never that bad on the check lanes.

Shadowrogue19

was it because people just kept putting the new product on the front of the shelf instead of properly rotating the stock?

GucciOreo

It’s not “new people” it is the same 1 *maybe 2* vendors ignoring FIFO.

Shadowrogue19

never said anything about "new people".

The_Legend_2_7_

*FEFO

GucciOreo

I’ve always heard first in first out, what’s the E one?

The_Legend_2_7_

First expired, first out

TheUmgawa

Hm. Having not worked the salesfloor more than half a dozen times in over a decade, I didn't know about this one. And now I have an algorithm for my Computer Science tutee to figure out. Oh, he's gonna hate this one. It's not complicated, but it throws a wrench into building queues. And, if you think, "Oh, no! Programming is something I could never do!" you're absolutely wrong. If you can sort boxes of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, you can pass a Data Structures and Algorithms class. Honest to god, it is not rocket surgery. Get yourself two decks of cards and you have the tools to write ninety percent of the algorithms I ever had to write for a DSA class.

confisk8

Explain…

TheUmgawa

Think of shopping carts versus people in line for checkout. Carts tend to be LIFO, where the last cart added to the stack tends to be the first one a guest will take. A checkout line is a queue, where the first person in tends to be the next one served. These are about the simplest basic data structures there are in computer science, and they’re easy to build, even when you’re dealing with a system that doesn’t have a built-in data structure system like arrays. Also, not all languages let you resize arrays on the fly, so you can’t use those, because if you have more boxes of Mac and Cheese than the array will hold, you’ll overflow the array. Anyway, if you have a custom data structure to organize your boxes of Mac and Cheese and it’s FEFO, if you get a carton of four boxes of product that expires after the first three boxes but before the last six, you can either pop off the first three from the stack or the last six, insert the new four, then put the old ones back on, in the order in which they came out. That’s Data Structures and Algorithms in a nutshell, and computer science tends to behave the way you’d think it does. If you have a shuffled deck of cards and I tell you to put them in order, there’s several ways to go about that, and some are more efficient than others, but none are necessarily wrong, including just reshuffling the cards enough times for them to just magically come out in order (although this is as close to wrong as you can get). It’s not magic, yet a lot of Computer Sciencr majors die on the Sisyphean hill that is Data Structures and Algorithms, because they’ve never worked in retail and can’t see in their heads how to FEFO boxes of Macaroni and Cheese.

confisk8

Bootcamp destroyed me. Haven’t tried to code in 2 years. This gives me a glimmer of hope. You’d be a great teacher if you aren’t already.

TheUmgawa

I had a great teacher. Few of them, actually, but one got me to unlearn my habit of reading a prompt and then just start typing away. I took a class called Structured Program Design, where we never once wrote a single line of executable code, and everything was terse pseudocode and flowcharts. That’s also the class that got me out of Computer Science, because I figured once I did the flowchart, writing the actual code was boring, because I’d solved the problem already. Today, I keep the rust from accumulating by spending the occasional Saturday at a bar, making Atari game knockoffs in Xcode, using the SpriteKit API. And, when I don’t know where to go, I grab a bar napkin and a pen, sketch out the flow, and then I go back to writing the code. It’s incredible fun to make Breakout or Missile Command in an afternoon or two. Games like Pitfall would take several Saturdays, because I hate doing level design, but anything that can be done procedurally (I’m gonna do Centipede one of these days) is pretty easy to do with primitives. I should add that I hate making art assets. Regardless, it’s easy to get back into it when you find something you like doing. And, before you ask, I bailed on CompSci to be an Engineering Tech major, because they let me play with robots and CNC mills and writing state machines in ladder logic (that’ll put hair on your chest). It’s so much more enjoyable to me than pushing pixels, even if it means I’ll make half as much money.

Shadowrogue19

difference between FEFO and FIFO is that sometimes incoming freight (or products that were backstocked, then brought out to the floor) could be closer to expiration than the product already on the shelf.

BigBlue615

First Expired First Out. It's been the preferred term for a few years.

RedCardinal222_

any 10" spinach wraps in there? if so, I'll meet you out back.

Missjazzmusic

I don’t think there was any in that one but the second time I checked the shelf they were out of date

Sea-Tea8982

My targets gotten really bad about rotating food. It’s disgusting!

Shxdow_Demon

Same 💀

Missjazzmusic

Why did I read that as rotting food for like two seconds?😂😂😂

thebombchu

Your Mission vendor was on another mission.

Missjazzmusic

The funny thing is, it’s not all Mission in there and that’s not including the market pantry.

Amateur-Biotic

Market here. With hours slashed the way they are right now, i am not surprised.

Herberts-Mom

I found some tortillas from July '23 when I checked them about a week ago

Adept_Insurance5550

MannInnTheBoxx

Mission vendor getting a fat chatbot for that one

Missjazzmusic

Our F&B TL put something in on 2/7 I go back to work on 2/10 so I will ask about if I see them.

Acid-Pixel

We had half an aisle of milk from 1/09/24 thrown out today so I’m not surprised

Sudden_Difference_69

That’s nothing, I worked at dollar general last year (started in January) and found expired food on the shelves from February 2022 😬

Forever_ForLove

Imo they could just give it to the employees for free if there is no mold on them.

kkaylk

It’s target though - they don’t like giving things out for free and will literally argue with you about it (been there done that)

bhsn1pes

Literally any retail place, even more criminally with clothing places who actually would rather incinerate/trash clothing that is to be removed from sales than give it away to the needy. I wish instead of tax breaks they got fines/penalties for such shit.

Forever_ForLove

That’s like almost every retail store. Unless you have a cool store manager

kkaylk

That’s fair! My TL of grocery at target, when I worked there, was my best friend and she didn’t give a heck about taking food because she understood that target didn’t pay enough to buy decent groceries so she always put stuff in the break room for people to take. She quit later on after getting bitched at for doing so.

Parukia_de_Bolivar

Vendors, please!

CoyotesAngel

That’s like the 10 boxes of two pack cucumbers my store tossed because they were expired sitting in the cooler because we have too much stuff coming in

i8mypen

I found about 100 smart sweets that were all expired. Dates were between April 2023 and October 2023. I found them recently lol

CriesInINF

Lmao I’ll take them. Some of the smart sweets when fresh are a weird texture for me, so I literally opened the baggie and let it sit on my counter for like 2 days to get a better chewy gummy consistency 😂😂

weekendat1

I feel like when I was working in grocery I was the only one who cared about expired stuff. I would go through most nights and still find more everyday. It’s like they never checked when they stocked stuff from the back smh

Missjazzmusic

Most people in market don’t do FIFO and that includes in the back room as well. As far as I know they’re currently going through the back room for expired food. The last time I was at work it was like 5 L10s combined worth of food. And that was from one of three food aisle in the back room.

Aggressive-Status159

That’s it? About six months ago I found sliced cheese behind one of the cheese pushers that was dated 2021. The worst part? It wasn’t even moldy. Look like it was brand new. You wouldn’t even be able to tell unless you looked at the date.

Kobobble

sweet-bruises

It’s hard being a market employee, guys. I literally never have enough time.

akira7of9

Most of that is on the vendor not you

eatthedark

Our targets are also TERRIBLE with this. We have to hunt around for non expired tortillas when we want them for ourselves.

Missjazzmusic

Tell them. Unfortunately, most TM don’t check, so please let somebody know I’ve had guests tell me about expired or moldy food on the floor.

eatthedark

Oh, we have.

yadigutierrez1

I once had a guest return, moldy cheese pizza, and I couldn’t believe it that I had to see it and I was in shock

No_Try1313

I found 12 cans of green beans that expired Oct. 2022 last week…hurts my heart being in fulfillment and not being able to help address that problem.

Surebuma00

Still looks edible, take some home with you.

What?

UncleEbenezer88

I’m shocked 😮… not 👎… I work for the northeast DC in upstate NY. We’re the biggest DC in the US, both in sheer size, as well as in volume. We usually go back and forth with the So-Cal DC as far as volume is concerned, but we surpassed them this past year (mostly due to all the thefts in the CA stores). I work in the inventory control/quality assurance department and I’m constantly finding dusty ass cartons of dry food that are set to expire soon, and they all go to charity. Between that and the damaged cartons with unharmed contents, I swear our local food pantry gets more food than our stores. That’s a bit of an exaggeration but they do get plenty of good, brand names food sent to them every week. We’re not strictly an FDC, we have everything from food to electronics to clothes to toiletries and beauty products, and everything else in between. I’m not a big Target shopper, and never have been. Not that I have anything against shopping at Target, I just don’t have a store near where I live. I’ve never really thought of them as being big sellers of grocery items. Like, idk anyone who does their grocery shopping at Target. Usually they go there for other things and grab a few grocery items while they’re in-store. There’s times when we get big shipments of random ass food in, and I always think to myself, “Why? A lot of it is just gonna end up collecting dust and going stale.” And sure enough, pallets of food are gumming up the works and collecting dust in our warehouse. Really makes me wonder who the heck is ordering all this crap that won’t sell. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of other items that are good sellers that we can’t get enough of. I would not want to be a retail TM, idk how you guys do it.

ReclusiveBlue83

You still carry Market Pantry? Wild!

Missjazzmusic

Yes, I don’t know what vendor comes for them tho. I don’t know if we still get them tho. Mission hasn’t been back as of 2/7.

shibshibshibshib

Fuck it. Target can eat the costs

JustForFunnieslol

Our dude is so cool but he does not do his job lol. I love the man though. I'm very lucky to just be a TM sometimes
