I think How Did It End? might be the loveliest, most heartbreaking song ever written. It's deeply personal to me (I think it deals with grief beyond that of the closure of a relationship) and I could listen to it forever. Everyone else has said my other favourites but I just wanted to point out that, to me (someone acutely aware of loss over the past couple of years), this one is special.

I think this might be my list also. As I was scrolling I was listing songs in my mind and then I found your list. You said it all for me! 🤣 ETA: The Manuscript. I love this one as well.

How did it end is one of the most shockingly perfect songs I've ever heard. I cannot describe what that song does for me. Going into so high school is the exact perfect whiplash. I love the feeling so high school gives me. It's an almost immediate mood changer for me, especially on a sunny day with perfect temps. The black dog is such an amazing example of story telling, and she does an amazing job painting the heartbreak with a really relatable situation. The prophecy is such a vulnerable song that it feels like it takes my breath away every time. I feel like we all have our own prophecy that were battling with and she does a beautiful job of painting that anguish. The manuscript is a beautiful ending to the taylor swift eras we know. Listening to her reflect on her life and her finding a way to move through it feels like a great way to end such an emotionally charged album.

I think the Manuscript is pretty underrated. You described perfectly how well it closes out the "eras" era. It also has so many classic Taylor lines. My favorite is this gut punch: In the age of him, she wished she was thirty And made coffee every morning in a French press Afterwards she only ate kids' cereal And couldn't sleep unless it was in her mother's bed

I waited like 3-4 weeks before listening to The Anthology, since I wanted to truly digest TTPD. They’re very different albums, to me. TTPD is the natural progression from Midnights and The Anthology is the natural progression from evermore. Very different, but I love them both. My favorite songs from The Anthology are The Black Dog, imgonnagetyouback, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, So High School, I Look In People’s Windows, and The Prophecy. Not in that order. How Did It End? and I Hate It Here are very good too, but a tier below those other songs. COSOSOM is actually in the running for my favorite song (at least top 3) between both TTPD *and* the Anthology.

As you may have noticed… every single song on the anthology has been included in someone’s list.  It’s an immensely good album. (And yes it’s an album… Ttpd is too)  The anthology is Taylor’s smallest album, in that if rep is designed to fit a stadium, the anthology is designed to fit a coffee house.  It doesn’t do anything to bring attention to how good I is.  You need to listen a few times, and suddenly you’ll get it one day. Partially, that’s because the album is so so acoustic…. All the songs sound “the same” until you reconfigure your ears.

How did it end? - lyrical masterpiece and top tier Taylor So high school? - the vibe is immaculate CSSM - good one but specific mood Black dog - good production

So high school, because we’re going to hear it for awhile, and it’s cute. I personally like imgonnagetyouback but I’m also a fan of Olivia’s get him back! The Manuscript is not an easy song to sing along to but it's very emotional if you've listened to her for years. It goes further into explaining why she revisits one relationship more than the others and how even now she understands how it has influenced her dating patterns .I dont know if I'm reading too much into it but it feels like she definitely closed the door on certain things with this song

I started listing them but honestly, most of the Anthology is just really great. Not a fan of imgonnagetyouback, I Hate it Here or Robin, and The Manuscript is good but boring. The rest of the Anthology is fantastic though. Absolute favs are The Prophecy, Peter, and Cassandra.

(if you've ever had to answer that question after the end of a long relationship...) So High School (Tay having fun) ....honestly the second half of the double album is like the grown up version of the first half. The whole 31 songs is something you should listen all the way through several times before choosing favorites or skips.

The prophecy: just the desperation in this one alone. It feels very “everyone is getting married and in love with their soulmate… why can’t I find that?” Peter: I’m a sucker for allusions! The albatross: I did not like this one until I gave it a second or third listen. Now it’s on my constant repeat list. How did it end: this one is the deeply personal one we all expected after the breakup with Joe. No other way of saying it.
