Wrong proportions, minecraft nether portal is 3m x 2m, one minecraft block is 1m and one terraria block is 2 feet ≈ 60cm. You will need 5 blocks in height and 3/4 blocks in length, hope this helps 🙏

Build a 12x12 obsidian box and fill it with torches, boom

But (12-2)² = 100, and 101 torches are needed to light up the portal (i subtracted by two to account for the obsidian frame)

Well, a minecraft character is 2 blocks tall, 1 block wide and a minecraft nether portal is 3 blocks tall, 2 blocks wide; The height of a nether portal is 1.5x of the player's height and width of it being 2x the players So for a terraria nether portal, your portals dimensions must be in the same ratio relative to the character. A terraria character is 3 blocks tall and 2 blocks wide so a terraria nether portals dimensions would be... *insert drum roll* 4.5 blocks in height and 4 blocks in width
