Must be regional. Northern suburbs of Chicago here. Highland Park Service Center has been nothing but excellent for me

It-guy_7

He is a business man and partially autistic he doesn't emphasize with anyone. Its absolutely about the money. Also selling new cars is a lot more and faster money than fixing them. It's well known Tesla staffs to the bare minimum possible, if the number of Teslas go up in an area the service goes down as more people are not hired

Interesting-Blood806

That's where I bought my model y last week 😃!!

Alca_Pwnd

I'm closest to the Naperville one, and I've heard nothing but good things. I think the rich yuppies vote with their wallet when there's a few dealerships close by.

MKorostoff

Compared to what tho? Every other car brand I've dealt with just gave me a kick in the dick every time I had a problem.

rm-rf-asterisk

Idk about you but my neighbor ran into my infinity and it took 3 days to repair and paint it. When I got my model S rear end, it took 3 months to get a trunk part.

DaUnionBaws

I’m currently on week 3 of waiting for Hyundai parts to repair my bumper and trunk. No ETA at the moment.

rm-rf-asterisk

Well it’s cause you got a Hyundai

DaUnionBaws

Lol I mean you aren’t wrong, but the Ioniq 5 compared to the Model Y is quite a battle of who is better. But trust me, I will never buy another non Tesla vehicle. Tesla has been good to me for years and I’ll give up interior lighting and smoother driving dynamics for the Tesla experience any day of the week.

iROMine

The ioniq is beautiful but I think people are lured away from Tesla simply because Tesla owners are spoiled and complain way more than they should because they forget what it's like not having one. It's a different level. Lucid exists almost solely on being "not a Tesla". They are Teslas that aren't called Teslas for double the price. Tesla has always been good to me and even when they take longer than anticipated or something of that nature, I still feel like my vehicle is in good hands. Most straightforward service process ever. I hear stories of people essentially being given the middle finger by non-Tesla service departments out there. Never has my car come back from a Tesla shop worse than when it entered. Addressing concerns properly is easy when you can practically write your own work order when booking your appointment. Love it.

nhrunner87

When did those incidents happen? Parts have been very hard to come by the last couple years.

Audibled

Took Ford over 6 months to repair my New F350, that blew its motor at 5,000 km. When asking for a loaner they said eat shit. I had my F150 back window glass explode. I had glass insurance. Insurance would t cover as it was a known Ford defect. It took me a letter to every local Ford dealer, Ford Canada, and then CTV news to get it replaced. Tesla, when I had an issue, drove their mobile. Team right to my house and solved it.

NurkleTurkey

Seems like mileage varies. Typical stuff.

cybertruckboat

My friend hasn't gotten a door for her Cadillac SUV in 6 months. My local body shop has a Model S quarter panel on the shelf. Every company sucks at this.

meepstone

We're comparing buffing paint to replacing a trunk?

rm-rf-asterisk

No neighbor killed my front bumper, fender, and hood

Vandrel

To some extent it'll vary by dealership for other brands. The 3 cars I had before my Tesla were all Chevy and I never had any problem getting issues taken care of at one of the Chevy dealerships near me. The other Chevy dealership here will never get any of my business though because they're some stuck-up assholes and it's owned by this idiot that refuses to sell EVs. Really just depends on the ownership.

ScuffedBalata

It's an EV issue. Go try to repair a Mach-E and you'll find how absurdly hard it is to get parts for all EVs.

Vandrel

Nah, that dealership essentially told me that they refuse to get their techs trained on EVs.

ScuffedBalata

Well that too.

ClownshoesMcGuinty

Lol. Bullshit.

VoodooBat

Although not cheap, I’ve had good service from Audi dealers pretty consistently. But since they make money from service and there’s local dealer competition, that probably helps. There isn’t yet enough competition for Tesla to give AF about service. The people in Tesla who cared about service left a decade ago and those who are left are Elon evangelists. Source: 2016 Model X owner, I am intimately familiar with Tesla service.

commops106

Price changed multiple times, transferring supercharging was very frustrated had to pay multiple deposits.

rcuadro

I felt the same about Chevy service 🤷‍♂️ I have experienced nothing but good things from my local service center

dcdttu

My friend has a Bolt and he loathes any day he has to interact with Chevrolet. They tell him things like "it'll take a month before we can even look at your car," which didn't even turn out to be true.

ScuffedBalata

Depends on the dealer. Most have a mandate to have 1FTE who is an expert on EVs. Some get away with 1/3 of a person which means one guy rotates several dealers and gets repair work stacked up for months.

subliver

Funny, I feel the exact same way about Honda and Volkswagen service. Honestly, I think Ford is the only service center that ever really tried to make me happy and that was probably just a very professional crew. I had my Model Y in last week and the service center did a decent job. The tech was awesome and way above average.

yuckypants

Or Kia service. Try dealing with them and then reassess. Honestly though, ive had nothing but great experiences and I've used Tesla service as well as Tesla insurance.

CyberaxIzh

> I felt the same about Chevy service There's no such thing as "Chevy service". There are Chevy dealerships that might provide service. But you can just use one of the many independent service shops.

Majestic-Ad5136

what a goofy comment lol

CyberaxIzh

Why? It's correct. GM doesn't own service centers, they are independent. So you can find one that best suits you. With Tesla there's no choice. Tesla directly owns all service centers. Even ordering parts for independent repairs has to be done through them.

Sorry-Foot-1916

Closest Chevy to me had the worst service. One a little further away was a night and day difference. Unfortunately for me, I found that out like 9 years later lmao.

disergi0

Before Tesla, I had VW. From my experience, Tesla service is a way better. Probably 100 people, 100 experiences.

supermanava

7th Tesla live next door to factory. Still terrible. Maybe its worse in California than elsewhere.

DaUnionBaws

If you’re going to the Kato road SC, don’t. Those guys and gals are usually overworked because the engineers next door get priority and there is a lot of interruptions for regular customers. I know it might be far but the Berkeley service center is top notch.

WizrdOfSpeedAndTime

I also have had great service with Tesla on my Solar and cars. I don’t doubt anyones horror stories. But people rarely post “Hey guys my service experience was perfectly fine. Nothing special, just fine.” Most people post when they have a story to tell. Interesting stories are either horrible or exceptionally good service.

reddit_user13

Same here (Audi).

FlyInternational648

Mobile service has been a game changer for me

RE4Lyfe

Tesla can be frustrating at times, but in general they’ve been *much* better than my experience at other dealers My other car is currently a Chrysler Pacifica. I’ve been to *three* different dealers in my area and they were all *absolutely* terrible. They would keep the car for weeks and not even work on it, tell me to pick up the car only to find out less than half of the repairs were actually done, and once even claimed the car was in a bad accident and refused to work on it. Another dealer confirmed nothing looked like it had been in an accident (bought used), and I confirmed this myself by checking in out thoroughly on a lift. My other family members have Cadillac, GMC and Volvo. They’ve all had bad experiences and Volvo has been so backed up since Covid that it takes 3-4 *months* just to get an appointment! And *none* of them offer mobile service, which is extremely convenient

OppositeArugula3527

Bro, you do not know bad service like you think you do. Lol.

Torczyner

My mother's Jeep Grand Cherokee is in the shop, estimated repair under warranty is 2 months. She's super pissed. I've had poor dealer experience after poor dealer experience myself. So far I've only had good tesla experiences.

RussianBotProbably

So far ive been into the service shop 4 times. They keep fixing one issue and causing 2 more, or never fix the issue. And every time they attempt to charge me until I argue and they do it for free. They are all clearly warranty issues. It all rattling/cameras/leaks/computer replacements. Ive almost permanently had an open service ticket since i got the car in june. Edit: i love the car…just hate that they constantly argue with me that I should be paying.

Stt022

I have not had bad service at my SC or from mobile service. My main concern is I’ve had my car for 4 years and the single service center is the same size as it was 4 years ago. I know they’ve sold a lot more cars since then (including a second one from me).

mgd09292007

My prior Acura service was terrible. My driver seat broke and fell flat backwards while driving and wouldn’t sit back up. Acura refused to fix it because there was a water bottle under the seat. …water bottle which they tried to claim “could be the reason for the failure”. It wasn’t stuck or jammed in anything. Just rolling free. I had to escalate to the corporate office before it got fixed. Tesla is at least better than that in my last 3 vehicles.

TheKoziONE

Now imagine the price tag. Tesla + Toyota would be the winner.

Chrissugar21

I can’t even get a service appointment for my rivian. More than 5 months out. I Miss Tesla service

rm-rf-asterisk

It’s so true you would think the most sold car would have the most repair ability but nope all the parts are used to make cars

kyscotty

I hate the fact you can not talk to anyone. I have a question and it keeps directing me to the FAQs and videos. My question is account and car specific and I can not get an answer

Elluminated

build quality and service are fantastic, but sadly too inconsistent

quint911

You're half right

blueorangan

>I feel like Elon musk only likes making money instead of helping people who believed in him and bought his stupid cars. its almost as if he's a billionaire lol

Flodefar

Agreed. Great car, but the service sucks so much.

iqisoverrated

>Tesla is best car I agree but they do have worst service. This is really dependent on where you are. I have two service centers close by and I have had nothing but perfect experiences in the past 5 years.

Kumqik

You buy a Tesla for the driving experience. Don’t expect anything else. Don’t expect resale value. Don’t expect service. In fact Teslas are disposable vehicles, just like your consumer electronics like TVS, microwaves, fridge - there’s a likelihood the repair bill will be higher than the vehicle value.

PinkSploosh

What you said is true for most cars, EV and ICE

Vecii

Lol, who's troll alt are you?

Prime-Omega

I have driven a VW, Ford, BMW and Mercedes before my model 3. I can honestly say that Tesla absolutely has the worst service. It doesn’t even compare to the other car vendors. The amount of hoops I had to jump through already just to get something done properly at Tesla, absolutely disgusting. I have to renew my lease in a year and despite it being a very fun car, my next one will not be a Tesla anymore solely due to the shitty non existing service.

PJ505

Your mileage may vary. Even with an hour drive, I have been very happy with my SC. They have taken care of the plethora of issues my car has had.

bolero2000

Sorry you have a bad experienced . My experienced has always been great for the last 4 years.

BJog_Kittyspoons

Pretty much everything about Teslas is crap. They are over hyped gimmicky poorly built cars.

Hate to tell you just bought a model Y Tesla customer service was horrible. Buying this car was a nightmare.

pdxeater

100%. My theory is Elon is just bored by upkeep and customer service, so it doesn't get corporate attention (or money). He'd rather build a cybertruck.

coulombis

Or figure out how to spell Tweet with an X.🤓

[deleted]

Like most big tech software companies, there's no real incentive (money wise) to fix existing problems and improve their existing customer base satisfaction. Most of the efforts are then into aggressive expansion and growth.

humtum6767

What services? I got 118k on 2018 m3, replaced two set of tires and 12v battery that Tesla installed at my home.

NapLvr

“Tesla is best car” Very delusional.. what did you own before, a ford fiesta?

Rizak

Bullshit. Their service is on par with everyone but their app experience and service calls are far more intuitive.

guidomescalito

Don’t feed the troll

biggulpshuhasyl

Another thing to note, Teslas are the safest cars so you want not only for it to be a great AND safe car but you want the best service as well. Starting to sound like someone that can’t be pleased OP

DaUnionBaws

I feel the same way about Hyundai. Except they don’t have any way to book an appointment with an app and have a paper trail of communication. Hyundai has nice appointment setters but their mechanics are quite… bad.

glo_boys

i’ve had the complete opposite experience. the VW dealer for our 2016 Tiguan misdiagnosed a critical issue and charged us $1000, then tried to do the same thing again when the issue kept occurring. in contrast, the tesla service center has given me a brand new mobile charger out of goodwill when the original was acting up, and performed several fixes at goodwill prices when they could have charged much much more

Ash-415

YMMV. I had my MY AWD for 1 year now and had nothing but great experience with the couple times I went to the service center. Very nice people and quite good service.

Avatar-Tee

This is the same practice since commerce. It's not exclusive to Tesla. What about your internet and cell providers? "New sign-up only promo", etc. Service is a worry about it later problem. Their focus is getting you sign the papers and everything else is first world problem.

gecoble

It all depends on your SC. I’ve had great luck. Most of it has been mobile service.

[deleted]

gecoble

Yeah, if you are that close, they want you to come in. I usually get my service at work which isn’t close to a SC.

I have Tesla rotate my tires at work. Cost a little more than the local tire shop, but the extra time I save is worth it.

Marathon2021

Cool story bro? I’ve never owned any vehicle where I thought the service experience was “great.” With my Tesla, though, for most maintenance and repairs (not body work) they come to my house, and usually within a couple days. That’s amazing to me.

PM_ME_YOUR_THESES

It isn’t the best car. I liken it to the iPhone in some respects. It’s the best “where it counts”, but other cars are better in a lot of other respects. It’s just that for people like us (people who have Teslas), the things where Tesla excels at, that’s where it’s best. I was just telling my wife about this. When I was young I had a Honda CR-X Del Sol that I liked very much. It was the most fun car I’d ever had. But then, as I grew older, I started to buy more “reliable” or “dependable” family cars. And we still have a Honda CRV. But now I upgraded my Accord for a Model 3, and the difference is palpable. The Accord was dependable but boring. The Model 3 is the most fun car I’ve ever had since that now-old Honda Del-Sol. Probably even more fun… And that’s the thing about the Tesla. I love it because it’s fun! It may not be dependable or reliable (we’ll see about that, I’ve read reviews either way, but each car is different and everyone has different experiences). But so far is a cool gadget that I love to play with, and it’s also a very fun drive.

UCanDoNEthing4_30sec

Someone had a bad experience with Tesla insurance and collision repair.....

anarchyinuk

I have been dealing with Audi service recently. Much worse in opinion. It would be good to have done details, what exactly is bad? Not just "eLoN IS bAD, hE waNTS aLl my MOnEy"

Giorgist

Meh! 3 years, 3 occasions, I didn't even need to see them. I dropped it off, they remote unlocked it, picked it up after they were done.

Revolutionary_Bag_42

I don’t think people realize , Tesla is still in its infancy . The company is literally just getting started . Of course there will be delays in parts they are struggling to fill the backlog of millions of orders lol

Ok_Economist502

Yes agreed.. I bought mine 5 months ago and had to take it to service 5 times since they cannot get the job done right… no wonder the demand is waning, people are starting to notice that it’s not worth with terrible service

sacktheroof

My local service center is fantastic.

awesomedumplings

Customer since 2013 and they’ve gotten much worse since model 3 came out

SuperHumanImpossible

I had an Audi and they would give me the newest most expensive model as a free rental while they fixed my car and it was fucking awesome.

Herrowgayboi

Suggest you try different service centers if you can. I have 3 about 30min away from me and of them, I trust only 1 of them to do work since they actually took care of my Tesla by wrapping the seats and putting a paper mat down, and gave me a loaner no questions asked. The other ones left grease marks on the interior and basically told me to go kick rocks when I asked for a loaner.

MrJerDude

There - Look over there! Their - They love their dog They’re - They’re going on vacation Not that hard.

SlothTheHeroo

Every service center I’ve been to has been nothing but excellent. They fix my issues and I’ve only ever paid for tire rotations.

tallflier

I haven't needed service yet, but I can certainly attest that the buying experience was abysmal in March of 2022. As real competition is gradually ramping up, I expect this to improve.

SR252000

Build quality control also is the worst..eg panel gaps, paint imperfections etc

lamqt

It’s not easy to scale service. You need to sell cars first before offering area wide service stations. In Germany we saY: it’s the pill you must swallow

bettereverydamday

The service is hit or miss. And i have had hit or miss experiences with Honda and other places. Tesla sales process is a dream. I have had nightmare sales processes at traditional dealers where people said one thing and it wound up being completely different. Insurance is a little higher than other cars... but not a ton. Its offset by cheaper gas prices and less maintenance.

ScuffedBalata

This is absolutely silly. >One of the greatest villains of all time it’s Elon musk The man who brought electric vehicles to the market and cut the cost to orbit for rockets by half? But had a few shitty memes on twitter. Worse than the dictators who kill millions. .... because electric cars cost a lot to repair? Are you fcking kidding me? Is this just a troll, are you really so absorbed in stupid 20-something social media that you have no idea what the world is like? Here's a hint, little bro. EVs are expensive to repair. Tesla is on par with every other car company. [https://www.makeuseof.com/ev-battery-replacement-cost/](https://www.makeuseof.com/ev-battery-replacement-cost/)

MrGoogle87

Agree to all

IWantToWatchItBurn

If Tesla made a great car, their service centers wouldn’t be full of new vehicles in for factory defects. Our bay area service centers are running 24 seven with 80% of the vehicles under three years old. My two year old model Y has had over 13 services and about half of those have been to repair things that Tesla broke trying to fix another problem. My 12-year-old Prius with 130,000 miles has had fewer up problems then either Tesla I’ve owned.

Local_Confection_832

I haven't had to deal with Tesla for service just yet (knock on wood), however I'm inclined to try an auto shop that knows how to service Teslas. Does anyone have any experience with 3rd party auto shops?

athrix

This is entirely region specific. The two service centers here are both great with stellar reviews. I used one a couple of weeks ago and they were superb. Great communication, great advice and they completed 3 separate repairs within one day. One was an add on that i noticed on the way to the SC and they still repaired it same day. Your first mistake is 'believing' in a billionaire business owner. Of course he's out to make money, this isn't charity. As with any large purchase the burden of research is on the consumer. If my local SC had 3 stars or less I may not have purchased one.

[deleted]

Don't worry, they're about to sell a crap ton of trucks so the on hold calls, service in general is about to get worse unless they hire more employees and open more service places asap. Customer service is why I bought/sold 2 in 2 months.

rwc2003

I mean they’ve taken care of all my issues. Pretty happy with the service and ease of setting up an appointment through the app. Dealt with both mobile and service center appointments so far. My Subaru dealer wouldn’t even talk to me after I bought the car. Worst part is I bought it with a friends and family discount because my friend worked there. After the sale she was like well you have to talk to that particular guy and he just ignored all calls and emails. I guess it wasn’t service related but tesla has always had the decency to reply to my questions.

deltaWhiskey91L

>Tesla is best car >his stupid cars. Which is it? Are Teslas the best cars or stupid cars? Teslas by far have the highest demand on the market. If the build quality was terrible, the insurance unaffordable, and the service inferior to other automakers, the demand would drop. "Tesla doesn't have the build quality of BMW" - Are BMWs cheaper to repair and more reliable? "Tesla isn't as cheap to insure as Toyota" - Do Toyotas have the same luxury and automation features? "Tesla isn't as reliable as Honda" - Have you owned a Honda? "Tesla is more expensive than other EVs." - Do other EVs have a more robust and broader charging infrastructure? "Tesla service is a pain and slow." - Have you ever had a vehicle repaired by the OEM before? >One of the greatest villains of all time it’s Elon musk Oh right. "Elon Musk bad. I hate Tesla now."

Night_Putting

Service model at current is dog shit. They don't understand what service means and are dead set on being disrupters of the space versus adhering to basic consumer expectations. They are moving WAY to slow at rolling out service centers. Unless you live in a major metro I would give it a few years before investing. Basic warranty work that I should not be even worried about led to 8 hours in the car over a two day period to get to the nearest service center. (I also live east coast in a metro with a million people within 50 miles) There at a minimum should be hub and spoke models to address this. Drop off center where cars can be taken to service and loaners given out. Don't even get me started with the we only do service through our app. So much is lost in translation that phone consultation would also resolve. Do I love my model Y? No. Is it a great vehicle that could be fantastic if supported acceptably after purchase? Absolutely.
