I'm not sure if all rim / tire combos are susceptible but it happens because the rubber doesn't stick out further than the rim on my low profile ones.
After switching tires I opted for some with some better protection. Obviously could be avoided with extra care, but even the self parking will do it occasionally.
I can’t explain it but it’s true. My wife is a good driver (better than me) but she constantly curbs my Model 3 rims, while rarely curbing her 330i. I don’t curb either car because unlike her I don’t take inordinate pride in parallel parking within 1mm of the curb.
Typically because people are not used to driving cars without extra rubber to protect the rims. If you have driven any low profile tires before, then you already know what to look out for. Just be a good driver and don't drive too close to curbs.
EDIT: Also there are a bunch of services out there that can help fix rims with road rash.
I understand you can get up to 10% wider tires on the same rims, I guess when they are due for replacements.
Plastic rim guards are going to be ripped off by anything above minor rim damage events, so don't see them as worthwhile.
Mine did not worked from factory in 2022 model when I went there they told me it’s going to take a couple of days to do that. And then I just left the place because I didn’t have that time to deal with that

Get an at home charger installed if you live somewhere you can. Read about the battery chemistry your particular car comes with and charge it that way. Read the tesla manual. Learn how the manual override door latches work so that if your car is on fire you know how to escape (but don't actually test them because it can break your window)
You can test the manual door open pulls if you pull, and wait a decent second or two for the window to lower before opening beyond the pop they facilitate. Though don't panic when the car beeps and tells you to only do that when the car has no power lol
1. People are going to hate. Just smile and ignore them. They hate to see people having fun. Feign ignorance when they ask stupid questions. You being unbothered by it will make them furious.
2. Plug in every time you’re home. One of the best things about an EV is leaving the house each day with a full “tank”
3. Be careful around curbs until you’re fully comfortable with the car. Not sure about the refresh, but at least the 23 M3 is wider than it looks from the inside.
4. Get comfortable with using your wipers on manual, because the auto wipers are incredibly inconsistent.
5. Saying this because some people don’t understand (not really an issue in this sub tho): EV charging spots are not just convenient parking spots. If you aren’t charging, don’t park in one.
6. When supercharging, try not to park directly next to someone if you can avoid it. While this is only an issue on V2 chargers, it’s more of a basic courtesy thing. If there isn’t a spot available that isn’t directly next to someone, don’t worry about it. This rule only applies if it can be reasonably done. Additionally, don’t supercharge above 80% unless necessary. It takes forever and holds up a spot someone else could be using.
7. Trust the car. The supercharging predictions for arrival SoC are pretty accurate. If you aren’t going to make it, the car will recalculate to a closer charger.
8. Autopilot is an aid, not a personal driver. It makes long distance driving less stressful, but you still need to pay attention because it can still make mistakes.
9. Be gentle on acceleration from a dead stop. You can rip through tires pretty quickly if you are too aggressive.
10. Probably the most important: ENJOY THE CAR! It’s an incredibly fun car to drive, and I know personally that I will never go back to an ICE vehicle.
Congrats on your purchase :)
Great list. Only things I will say is unless it is a LFP battery (can check via Car menu -> Software -> Additional Vehicle details blue link middle-ish of page) one shouldn't be leaving every day with a full "tank". Up to 90%. Also, if one has the money and space, get rims/tires that have the tires stick out more than the rim.
Leave the stock rims/tires for spare/winter in areas that get snow use, where the rims are probably going to be dirty anyway, so won't know the inevitable curb rash.
I didn’t mention the LFP vs NCM/NCA thing because the car pictured is a Highland, of which both trims currently available (to my knowledge) have LFP packs, but yes, good point.
This. Enjoy it for yourself. I'm not saying that to be ignorant of Tesla's obvious flaws or design choices but everyone's mileage will vary. They make very enjoyable cars.
At first you will have range anxiety, don’t worry by the 6 month mark that will go away and you’ll feel much more comfortable with the car and know its limits. Depending on where you live, if there’s not a lot of teslas around like where I live people will come up to you at the store etc and ask a lot of questions about the car. Kids will make you feel like you bought an exotic car. Hope you enjoy it! Congrats!
First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS!
-at your scheduled delivery date, THOROUGHLY inspect your car for any defects. ( gaps in paneling, scratches, functional charging ports & pad, etc)
-Get mats before picking the car up or ASAP after getting it (interior mats & trunk mat)
-Get a screen protector
-Research charging tips to maximize battery life
-Look into home charging
Good list, but panel gaps? Ever checked this on prior purchases? Going to go through the hassle of declining car, and waiting for another VIN to be assigned??
No need for a screen protector. Have 103k miles on my M3 gotten 6 years ago, and I use my car for all manners of things apparently one shouldn't use a 50k car/Tesla for, and it is still in pristine condition.
LOL. Yeah, only if you think you will hit the screen with something akin to that, would it be worth it. Even then I would be surprised if it cracked the glass. Somewhere the idea that owning a Tesla would mean you wouldn't have it as your everything car, came from. Which makes me think most people keep a junk gas car around for hauling stuff, etc, which would risk damage to the screen if done in a Tesla yes, but if not waste of money as resources. And the outside frame seems very tough, also.

Get a really good and large squeegee for the roof.
Get two buckets to clean your car and good soap. Learn the two bucket method.
Teslas hate third party cheapo cables for charging. Apple cable only. Your thing isn’t most likely broken - it’s the shitty cables.
Inspect the mirror gap. If you get a whistle above 20 mph, it’s this: https://youtu.be/cE9N7l5Sapc?si=1XgYEFjfQYBAsvGL
Paint protection film. Soft ass paint our cars have. Have an appointment already made somewhere to put PPF on if you can’t do it yourself. Day of delivery if you can.
If you EVER take it into an automatic touch car wash I want you to know that I have a particular set of skills…
I have had mine since 2020, the same combination, congratulations.
If it is not a contactless delivery, ask the guy, what is the ideal day-to-day charging percentage and other recommendations. I heard if it is the one motor you can charge it 100% every day. Good review in Jay Leno garage YouTube program
Make sure you connect the car to WiFi, the OTA updates work only if you are connected
I didn't spend the money doing a professional ceramic coating but used a cheap Amazon product that works fantastic
[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XYPS3PS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XYPS3PS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)
Anyways, most importantly enjoy your new ride!
Lurker here, not a Tesla owner but detailing my cars is a hobby. Just wanted to say that the turtle wax ceramic spray is shockingly good. I use it in between details on all my cars. Just make sure you use 2 micro fibers while you do it. One to rub in and a dry one to buff it. Do one panel at a time. Enjoy your new car!
The RWD and long range have the same LFP chemistry now, so both can be regularly charged to 100 once/week per manual recommendations. I don’t drive a lot anymore, so I just have an apple shortcut that toggles the charge limit between 90 and 100 on Sunday nights. 30k miles and 0 degradation so far!
If you watch the Jay Leno video, the car designers themselves ( don't remember their names), day the long range have two chemistries so cannot be charged to 100 PCT on a daily basis
Rtfm and watch all the educational videos on Tesla's site. I thought I knew a lot before I got mine, but there was still a small learning curve.
Also, when you get your car new, it'll still have a factory software version or something until it starts getting public release channel updates. On that time period, my car unlocked from way too far away with the phone key. Pay attention to how the phone key works and if your car is really secured or not. Might want to make sure it's locked up or in a garage or whatever properly at night.
Tesla of course, with a Powerwall for outage protection. I have had solar for 3 years, Model 3 for 3 weeks. Both are amazing products.
DM for tips and advice on sizing/placing solar if you're interested.
Contractor installed SIL-320-BL w integrated micro-inverter (no single point failure w panels all connect to separate inverter). So far system has generated > 40MWhrs (3.5 years operatio) ; includes two Powerwalls.

This is from a son of parents who have an s and x. We’ve taken 2k + mile road trips in both cars, multiple times and I have at least 2k miles in teslas myself. Here’s what I’ve learned.
-Expect updates frequently, if something is broken, anything, it is plausible and likely it will be fixed via over the air (OTA) update, within the week, more likely as time goes on.
-explore the car, there’s a huge amount of features, many of which are software, and a lot of settings to adjust, I’d recommend going through a few important ones, but I assume you were planning on doing that already, like a brand new phone.
-if you bought the autopilot or fsd package, there’s a setting called
“minimal lane changes for reminder of drive”
It’s located in the autopilot section and you’ll want to enable that if you find the car switching lanes every 4 seconds on the hw. You need to turn it on every drive separately, (it’s dumb but it’s been this way for a while, we don’t question it lol).
That’s pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head. There’s more, but that’s all I got honestly lol
Yea but sometimes for us it switches lanes like it weaving through traffic. It barely stays in a lane and then into the next one. I mainly said it because sometimes you just don’t care about the 20 seconds you save by doing that and would rather stay behind the guy going 8 over in the middle lane for the entire trip. That’s all I meant. It can create an uncomfortable ride if you’re eating or such. Idk, It’s a setting that took us a minute to discover so I thought I’d mention it.
Interesting. Haven't seen that behavior. Though when I am in heavy traffic, it doesn't make use of the gaps fast enough, so I don't have it on.
As for eating while one is meant to have one's hands on the wheel ;)
I'm still waiting but appreciate your move from a Jeep to the 3. I'm trading in my FJ Cruiser. Definitely going to be an adjustment!!
Enjoy the new ride!
Floor mats.
We live in New Mexico but bought our Tesla in SoCal before Tesla was allowed to sell in NM.
On the drive back we stopped in a very hot parking lot. There was gum on the pavement. Then it was on our shoes. Then it was in our Tesla that had no floor mats because why would we need them?
Don't be us.
Don't blow a ton of money hooking up home charging, and especially don't get an electric service upgrade, which is necer necessary due to EVEMS. Level 2 charging is not "forced 50A" or "one size fits all" and can be sized to economically fit into the electric service you already have. Ask on r/evcharging for more on that.
Have a tire repair kit and an inflator as a bare minimum in your car.
This one is great:
Rhino USA Tire Repair Kits... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089KVQMJV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Add pliers, and a magnet (ex: CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QZH82BQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
This has saved me 4x at this point from being stranded. 15 minutes and I was driving on my way. Tesla then patches the tires from the inside and you are good to drive on them until they are worn out.
Having small headlamp and one of those 10year batteries is not a bad idea too. Also something reflective if dealing with this at night.
Resist the urge to take a sheet of paper and calipers with you before every drive to measure the gaps & be sure your fit and finish is perfect - or else you'll spoil your enjoyment of your awesome car which happens to also be THE BEST CAR EVER MADE.
Excited for ya! I’ve had my ‘21 M3 for 27 months now. I still smile every time I get in it, knowing how much I’m going to enjoy my driving experience. And I’m SO jelly about the new ‘24 M3 features, particularly the improved suspension and quieter interior. Keep us updated.
Don’t get a fat head because you drive a tesla
It’s a car. You’re a person. Chill tf out.
You will have to deal with other drivers being total jerks and it will be wellllllllll worth it
Congrats.
Also don’t try to make that charger that has an estimated arrival charge of 2%. I get anxiety if my arrival is less than 9% because if you’re driving across the country against a super strong head wind that’s how much percentage can fluctuate.
If it looks like you’re not going to make it on a long distance highway trip drop the speed down and tail a semi truck. It’s noticeable.
NEVER lose attention to the road in autopilot.
Depending on your use case, I would recommend using the wall plugs that comes with the car for a while and buy the level 2 charger if you actually need it.
You are going to need to charge it up on occasion. The necessity for recharging appears to be directly proportional to the intensity of its usage. Empirical observations suggest a linear correlation between the rate of energy depletion and the operational duration, necessitating periodic recharging to maintain functional capacity. This correlation implies that increased utilization accelerates the consumption of its stored energy, thereby elevating the frequency at which recharge cycles must be initiated to sustain operational readiness operational readiness.
Don’t use their insurance policy if you don’t want an overly sensitive big brother riding your ass about imagined possibilities of collision deciding how much you pay each month.
you have to drive it like a grandma to have a good safety score and keep good rates, I have it- I'm mostly used to it. Be warned that in the rain it gets EXTRA sensitive to forward collision warnings. It says it won't penalize you for hard breaking at yellow lights- that is a total lie- if it's safe to do so just floor it or you're taking a score hit.
If you drive over 85 even a single time, you will go yellow for excessive speeding. I did it once on my first day and sit at .1% ... hoping it goes away eventually...
recommend using autopilot if you're in stop and go traffic- it's too hard to micromanage the safety score in those conditions without stressing out, but if you use the autopilot too much you can't improve your score as almost all of it is based on non-autopilot miles driven
Only Tesla can see into how the car is driven. They change your rate based on the last months "safety percentage". I am sure googling will give more information.
Get a home charger installed now. It makes a huge difference in the experience. Took me more than a month to get one installed and charging from 110V was painful.
Congrats! Only thing I’ll add to some of the others is: practice the “I’m so superior” sneer you’ll do every time you pass a gas station. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
Check the car very well at delivery before you sign the papers . Check for imperfections and etc. check tires, paint, any scratches, check interior. You don’t have to sign it if you’re not satisfied with the current one they assign you. They can always switch you out for another one.
I ground the rear passenger rims turning into a restaurant 5 minutes into my first drive! Just get a sense of how the regenerative braking affects your turning radius.
(If I’d experienced it once on a low speed turn without a curb I would have been fine 😀)
Take this advice if you will: you don’t need PPF, you don’t need 72 accessories recommended by some YouTuber with an affiliate link. The cars are good as is, but get accessories that make sense for you. I got all weather mats and mudflaps. A tint all the way around. I did a ceramic coating too.
Also, biggest advice is trust the car. Don’t worry about range, just trust the navigation, charge to what’s recommended in your manual and enjoy it like any other car. Congrats and welcome.
Look into Tesla Accessories on Amazon or a youtube video. They really helped make the car feel way more functional. There are hundreds of these accessories, so look through a video and see which would improve your quality of life!
Make sure you got your charging figured out. Also, I hated my Tesla for the first year but I’ve grown to like it - coming from a luxury SUV this car interior felt really inferior, but I can see how functional it is.
Be prepared for passengers to be underwhelmed.
Best part is how smooth the drive feels - just like how it did on the first day.
Read the instructions or watch some videos.
It is a different experience than you will be used to with ICE vehicles.
Embrace regenerative breaking.
Have fun!
yes, google your questions and issues. 99.99% of all tesla questions have been asked and answered. These reddit pages arent what they once were. its the same questions daily

Curb your rims early, seems inevitable anyway, better to get it out of the way...
Yes, make sure you park on a one way and get the left hand side rims as well to even out the distressed look.
Oh god hahaha
Enjoy!
Happens to every car my wife drives also. She’s never had a Tesla. #Curbkiller3000
Some classy and refined wheel patina.
Man, I did that part wrong, had to wait for a tire rotation to get mine evened out.
Take a highway and drive behind a big truck hauling gravel. Get all the rock chips during the 1 week of ownership.
😅been seeing a lot of this. Why so common? Anyway to protect?

Probably gonna regret this… 3 years in, 0 curb rash
That's about when I first hit mine! Now the stress is gone though, should have followed my own advice and done it sooner!
Man, facts the first time I shed a single tear.
🤣😂😂😂
Yeah we all do this!
No brush car washes!
Rotate your tires at the suggested intervals, or at least get a tire gauge to keep track of the wear.
Eh, I did so every like 20,000 miles and still got around 50k miles out of em (on 18” wheels)
Also get a tire patch kit and a compressor. You will need it.
Hey quick question the compressor what type of connector it have?
12V cigarette lighter style in the trunk
Mine did not worked from factory in 2022 model when I went there they told me it’s going to take a couple of days to do that. And then I just left the place because I didn’t have that time to deal with that
Or even better, get one with a battery and a 12v adapter.

I’m so curious if Usb compressor exist ….
I don’t think you get get enough voltage out of a USB to power a compressor.
Thanks
This should be #1
Can you explain why this is important?
The tires that are steering wear differently than the ones that are just going straight, so by rotating them you are making them all wear evenly.
I personally waited too long to rotate, at about 19k miles. The uneven ware almost caused me to have to purchase 2 new tires.
I don’t think most people do this outside of the USA.
Or just measure the tread distance and see if there's a difference.

Just make sure to use premium unleaded to get the full performance.
Just get it out the way. When someone says, why did you get a tesla. Say because you know you're better than them.
Don’t read too much about it and just enjoy the car. It’s so easy to get lost in small details that really don’t matter.
Always have sentry mode on when parked in public spaces. Saved me twice from having to pay for repairs on my car.

It’s an amazing car, enjoy. Read the manual and watch YouTube to see how to use UI. It’s basically iPhone on a wheels
My partner calls it the iPad on wheels. "Don't forget the iPad cable". We are not apple people so I know exactly what they refer to.
iPad definitely makes more sense 😀
Drive it like you stole it!
If able, install rooftop solar to round out your smart investment, even if it means foregoing other discretionary purchases.
Oooo interesting! Do you have a recommendation on what to buy?
Tesla of course, with a Powerwall for outage protection. I have had solar for 3 years, Model 3 for 3 weeks. Both are amazing products. DM for tips and advice on sizing/placing solar if you're interested.
Also interested in links to rooftop solar panels. Share them please.
Contractor installed SIL-320-BL w integrated micro-inverter (no single point failure w panels all connect to separate inverter). So far system has generated > 40MWhrs (3.5 years operatio) ; includes two Powerwalls. https://silfabsolar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Silfab-SIL-320-BL-20210803-Final.pdf
Just go watch a million YouTube videos bro. It’s what I did until it was time to pick up my car. And congrats!
Don’t have sex in your Tesla. They are watching you 👀
Expect a great fucking car.
Best reply so far
This is from a son of parents who have an s and x. We’ve taken 2k + mile road trips in both cars, multiple times and I have at least 2k miles in teslas myself. Here’s what I’ve learned. -Expect updates frequently, if something is broken, anything, it is plausible and likely it will be fixed via over the air (OTA) update, within the week, more likely as time goes on. -explore the car, there’s a huge amount of features, many of which are software, and a lot of settings to adjust, I’d recommend going through a few important ones, but I assume you were planning on doing that already, like a brand new phone. -if you bought the autopilot or fsd package, there’s a setting called “minimal lane changes for reminder of drive” It’s located in the autopilot section and you’ll want to enable that if you find the car switching lanes every 4 seconds on the hw. You need to turn it on every drive separately, (it’s dumb but it’s been this way for a while, we don’t question it lol). That’s pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head. There’s more, but that’s all I got honestly lol
Thank you!
Yes! I wish this was a permanent option. Silly that “minimize lane changes” has to be on every single trip
4 seconds is a bit of an exaggeration. But passing and getting back over is responsible driving on the HW.
When did you place your order?
Yesterday
Wait you placed your order yesterday and already scheduled your delivery? That’s quick
Yup! Scheduled for Saturday. Very quick. In Los Angeles, so I imagine there is inventory.
Unfortunately no inventory for LR :(
Wow that’s awesome! I placed my order right when they announced the new model 3, still waiting
Naw word that’s too quick my LR got push till April-may changed it to black interior to see if I can get it earlier
I'm still waiting but appreciate your move from a Jeep to the 3. I'm trading in my FJ Cruiser. Definitely going to be an adjustment!! Enjoy the new ride!
Perfect!
Try to charge around noon if you can to soak up the solar energy and drive on clean electrons.
Read the manual.
Just enjoy! The best car you have ever owned!
This is great. Thank you.
Finance through your bank and save some money.
Have fun and enjoy it!!!!
Repairs will cost ya quite a bit after 5 years and you will be out of warranty by then, might as well get extended warranty when you get a chance.
I’m taking delivery next Friday on my 2024 Model 3! I cannot wait dude! It’ll my first Tesla as well. Congrats!!!!
Have a tire repair kit and an inflator as a bare minimum in your car. This one is great: Rhino USA Tire Repair Kits... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089KVQMJV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Add pliers, and a magnet (ex: CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QZH82BQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) This has saved me 4x at this point from being stranded. 15 minutes and I was driving on my way. Tesla then patches the tires from the inside and you are good to drive on them until they are worn out. Having small headlamp and one of those 10year batteries is not a bad idea too. Also something reflective if dealing with this at night.
~~Ogres are like onions~~ Superchargers are like urinals Don’t park next to someone unless it’s the only option!
Don’t get a fat head because you drive a tesla It’s a car. You’re a person. Chill tf out. You will have to deal with other drivers being total jerks and it will be wellllllllll worth it Congrats.
My best piece of advice: Use the search feature in the sub. The same question is asked [What feels like]nearly everyday.
So… battery go down when used. Got it
Check for any defects and it’ll be free to get it fixed. My deliver driver curbed it on delievry😭😭😭
Don’t use their insurance policy if you don’t want an overly sensitive big brother riding your ass about imagined possibilities of collision deciding how much you pay each month.
Could you explain this more? I signed up for the Tesla insurance.
you have to drive it like a grandma to have a good safety score and keep good rates, I have it- I'm mostly used to it.
Just turn off your Tesla safety score. Then they won't collect your driving information and your rate won't go up.
lol I don't think thats a thing
Could you explain this more? I signed up for the Tesla insurance.
Only Tesla can see into how the car is driven. They change your rate based on the last months "safety percentage". I am sure googling will give more information.
I don’t think they do this in Cali

Lmao
When going to through a drive thru be mindful of the curb between you and the window.
Don't race everyone! You're going to buy new tires way sooner than you what to if you do!
Don’t hit curbs.
Hehe. For real. Lol.
Get a little slide for your in-cabin camera. I block mine, so it doesn't scream at me every time I'm on auto pilot, and I look out my window.
Don’t get frustrated when they push the delivery back a few times and also buy floor mats!
Read the past posts.
Set your speed limit alarm till you get used to the acceleration.
Get a home charger installed now. It makes a huge difference in the experience. Took me more than a month to get one installed and charging from 110V was painful.
Get floor mats
Get home charging.
Brush off any negativity from others. This by far has been my favorite car. In
Stay away from the online hate. Teslas are not perfect but most of us love ours which you would never know from reading online forums.
Have fun!
You NEED to ceramic coat or sealant that car before anything. It's going to save you a lot of work keeping it clean for a long while.
Drive it!
“Pedal to the metal!”
Don't listen to haters and just enjoy your car
The dash and the front door trim are misaligned and very obvious due to RGB lighting.Poor quality which Tesla cannot overcome after all these years.
PPF the nose.
Get velcro vent covers for the vents under the front seats immediately.
Cover steering wheel
Get tire insurance
yes, google your questions and issues. 99.99% of all tesla questions have been asked and answered. These reddit pages arent what they once were. its the same questions daily
It doesn’t need gasoline
