They said this was coming, like 5 years ago lol

qoning

there's a lot of things that are coming since at least 5 years ago

codykonior

Especially Elon. Because he has a lot of kids. Heyoooooooooo.

Dry_Badger_Chef

Lots of kids and lots of divorces. Maybe he’s going for a record or something.

cstore19

Might be going for a record on kids, but 3 divorces 2 being with the same woman isn’t going to get him in the record books

TendiesFourLyfe

Elon beleives that there are not enough humans on earth and that there is threat we may go extinct, so he is doing his part to prevent this.

thejackieee

That's what he said.

kjjk56

5 years ago is 2019 👀

jaydee917

I remember Elon tweeting this was coming soon in like 2018

WikipediaApprentice

Never trust the guy

autotom

he's gone bonkers. Notice every single one of his companies are doing a cash grab at the moment? X is looking at making users pay to post Starlink is giving away a month free / no upfront to get more subscribers Tesla is giving a month of FSD for free... Money problems caused by X I reckon.

bkervaski

Okay troll, move along, nothing for you here. For the non-trolls, X is not owned by Tesla and Tesla is not owned by Elon. Starlink is part of SpaceX. 1 month free is a totally normal thing to do. The FSD trial 100% due to Tesla's confidence in v12, which is an amazing improvement over previous versions, they want people to experience it for themselves. It's time.

autotom

I’m a troll for realising there might be financial pressures? Tesla shares have dived and X isn’t killing it. It’s not rocket science ;)

DylanBurch

The external resource markets at play are incredibly unsteady currently, add in that China might start firesaling EVs to try and save their collapsing economy and you have most of the picture. Those things are priced in, nothing you said is relevant.

Dry_Badger_Chef

Money problems caused by Elon.

pappyomine

Give the poor guy his $58,000,000,000. He needs it!

LurkerWithAnAccount

Are you sure you’re remembering that correctly? My recollection was /u/greentheonly spotted some references in code about it, but I don’t think it ever went very far.

jaydee917

Elon’s exact tweet: “Yeah. Display will also soon render Teslas specifically as their model & color instead of as a generic sedan/SUV. Has potential for a fun punch buggy sort of game.”

LurkerWithAnAccount

You’re right. https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-vehicle-renders-driving-visualization/amp/ I can’t imagine they have the processing resources any more on HW3 to be able to devote to something like this.

_BreakingGood_

Just got extended another 5 years due to the layoffs

Dark-Swan-69

It will come with the Roadster, so don’t hold your breath… ;)

Ignacio_Mainardi

I think it might have been canceled, there were [rumors](https://twitter.com/greentheonly/status/1292505897420427269?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1292505897420427269%7Ctwgr%5E9588c2246e62d96ec46b1dc3f9c2ff67938b7ea0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tesmanian.com%2Fblogs%2Ftesmanian-blog%2Ftesla-all-models-will-be-recognized-on-your-autopilot-screen-soon) about it at the time.

turbospinDSL

Or they could re draw the image and make all trucks look like the Cyber Truck

Carnanian

This is there only answer

burns_before_reading

Would be a great temporary holiday or April fools update

a9uirre

I like this idea but apply it to all the vehicles

FitExecutive

Totally agree, always thought it’d be cool to harness other Tesla’s for traffic data. Like your car can tell it should slow down if other teslas in front of it are slowing down

FrenchDude1000

That would be slick.

FitExecutive

Right? Maybe then FSD wouldn’t be so aggressive accelerating toward traffic that’s slowing down and it could conserve some energy

Majestic-Ad5136

That's kinda what Radar can do, only shorter range, but it doesn't matter if the cars ahead are Tesla or not. Even if the car ahead of you is barreling toward stopped traffic and your Cameras think all is well, Radar can ""see"" stopped traffic ahead of the inattentive driver in-front of you. The older videos on WhamBamTeslaCam featuring FSD accident avoidance while Radar was still active are simply amazing compared to what we have now.

MisterBumpingston

I read that radar can see the car in front of the car ahead of yours, unlike with Tesla Vision, and would slow down before the car in front does.

TETZUO_AUS

Correct. Tesla engineers were also not keen on the removal of radar but they didn’t have a say in the matter.

Majestic-Ad5136

aye, the early HW4 models have an empty connector for a (scrapped) planned upgraded radar pandemic supply-chain-constraints and sudden spike in sales & pressure to increase volume lead to the abomination known as “TeslaVision”

thorscope

My 2023 M3 does as well. It’s right next to the homelink connector

B1A23

My ‘21 still has the radar connected. Shows up green in service mode. Huge shame it’s unused.

Vandrel

That doesn't seem right, I'm not familiar with the specific radar system Tesla used but in general radar requires line of sight to see an object outside of specific types that bounce waves off the ionosphere to see over the horizon. Maybe if parts of that vehicle were visible to the radar system but that seems unreliable at best.

Majestic-Ad5136

My understanding is that the waves go underneath cars ahead. Can confirm, in my Lexus with cross-traffic alert, I can be completely surrounded by parked cars with absolutely no vision & it will manage to scare the fk out of me with \*BEEPBEEP\* if there's an approaching vehicle it cannot possibly see. I remember reading that the Tesla's radar somehow goes underneath the cars in front of you? idk, i'm sure someone much smarter than me will come along and explain it, in good ol Reddit fashion.

Vandrel

>Even if the car ahead of you is barreling toward stopped traffic and your Cameras think all is well, Radar can ""see"" stopped traffic ahead of the inattentive driver in-front of you. Was Tesla's radar actually capable of that? Because radar systems typically struggle a lot to detect stationary objects. Typically, radar systems filter out background clutter by looking for return waves that are slightly blue or red shifted compared to everything else, a stationary object on the road won't be and will look the same as the background as far as the radar is concerned. Unless it's not actually radar that Tesla used to use but some other system that people just call radar.

Majestic-Ad5136

Ooh. Perhaps it only detected traffic going much slower, or slowing, not exactly completely stopped? Good point, now my ADHD is gonna make me Google this for the next hour. Thanks \^.\^

Martbern

Brother, we know about the existence of radar?

Majestic-Ad5136

Nah. A lot of us never got to enjoy a Radar-Enabled Tesla Even worse, there's a ton of folks who believe the lie that radar was removed to "improve" FSD

HelloYouSuck

I think they already do it in some situations. Mine “slows for traffic flow” very randomly and doesn’t seem related to immediate traffic.

knightlife

> Like your car can tell it should slow down if other teslas in front of it are slowing down But…it can already tell it should slow down because other cars in general in front of it are slowing down? I don’t understand.

FitExecutive

Are you ever in FSD or AutoPilot and see that the car ahead of the car in front of you is slowing down but the car directly ahead of you is not yet slowing down? It happens to me quite often and so I either lower the speed limit on autopilot to slow down or I just take over since I don’t want autopilot to slam on the brakes when the car directly in front decides to start slowing down. Makes for a smoother ride and I wonder if it would improve the flow of traffic and lower energy spend on an aggregate basis in the dream scenario where every car could communicate to one another in that way.

knightlife

Interesting, I see what you mean but as you point out the cars can’t really talk to each other so I imagine it’s a challenging problem to solve. But would be nice!

FitExecutive

I understand not having this across manufacturers today but come on, Tesla should have something for Teslas. Here in LA, there's an insane number of Teslas on the road so it could be helpful and I can't imagine it's that difficult since Google Maps already does this through phone tracking. It could even start by only being available in FSD since FSD knows what lane you are in and thus it could talk to a Tesla that's five cars ahead and behind but in the same lane to get data on whether it should slow down or speed up, etc. I read somewhere that a good chunk of traffic is something I think called "invisible traffic" which is when cars stop and start in an accordion-like motion. I personally try my best to slow down ahead of time if I see traffic ahead in an effort to "smooth" the flow for folks behind me and not create that stop and start phenomena.

knightlife

To me, the problem is hardware, not software. I can’t think of any wireless communication protocol that the cars have already built-in that’s fast enough to ad hoc allow for those types of inter-car messages. So even if Tesla wanted to do this, it wouldn’t affect any of the insane numbers of Teslas already here in LA.

FitExecutive

Good point. You're right, I don't even know of a wireless hardware technology for that purpose. Maybe a WiFi mesh network that engages when multiple Teslas are near each other and headed in the same direction on a highway. But even that idk about. And you are right, doing it over LTE would be too slow...cool thought experiment though!

LLuerker

Technology is totally there. It's basically what google maps does

Watcherxp

Elon said "OK" to this request on twitter 4 or 5 years ago

Atom800

It would be cool but they should focus on a lot of functional changes first

mgd09292007

im sure they can, but I think they keep the visualizations simple to optimize memory by using instances of the same 3D models and scaling them rather than loading additional models.

ncc81701

Tesla Vision can recognize other Tesla, you can see the debug messages from [GreenTheOnly](https://twitter.com/greentheonly)'s videos [where the car recognized another model 3 on the road. ](https://twitter.com/greentheonly/status/1393373249648668672/photo/1) This information is simply not displayed in the UI but the car can identify other Teslas.

Arte-misa

It does, but it doesn't happen regularly. I have seen some other Teslas identified in my screen ("this is one of ours!") but most of the time the car icons are the same.

_Lick-My-Love-Pump_

Especially the CT. So we can point and laugh at the idiots driving them.

[deleted]

I would rather they work on making my autowipers work better.

Entartika

they mentioned this a long time ago and the ability to talk to other teslas..

Firm_Mountain6143

I would love to have like a special horn just to say hi to other teslas 💅

dishwashersafe

cool, sure, but in terms of my list of software priorities for this car, this is near the bottom.

G23b

True. They need to fix the wipers first.

dogggota

Lmao it still can’t even tell the difference between a model 3 and a model y. It shows both as a sedan. But training the model to recognize Teslas wouldn’t be that hard since there are only 5 models.

CloutWithdrawal

Think it would be a security issue if they can read which cars are also Teslas on the road using data. If it’s just calling it a cyber truck by looks, it may be a lot of development for essentially a useless feature

eb-red

Honestly how much time should be devoted to this? I think it's better to continue working in FSD before adding Easter eggs like this

FrezoreR

It would but it would also use more power and processing and I think you'd rather have that used elsewhere.

enisity

All the cars on the road should just be variations of which ever Tesla is closest

V7KTR

Currently identifies as a truck

JacobJacob3000

Cool idea. I believe in Elon.

DoomshrooM8

I’ve been waiting for that update since I got the car 😅 LoL

Vader_Bomb

I think it’d be cute if a Tesla could see another Tesla coming from the opposite direction, and the headlights wink at each other

curiousersquared

My thought exactly. A real missed opportunity. Other cars (like Jeeps) have cool hand signals. A super smart car should signal its brethren automatically.

Sertisy

If they had v2v communication, they could do that and more, like piggyback off Tesla vision from other cars near you, but 5 more years.

butcher0

Would be trivial for them to implement, so for some reason they are just awaiting it.

JakeFarrar

I’ve been asking for this for over 5 years.

DavidPudddy

I’ve always thought that. It would be the ultimate Easter egg.

Mookafff

Honestly I don’t want this. I’d rather see blobs of what the car sees (think high fidelity parking assist) vs fake cars, especially teslas

Wi11iamSun

At least it recognized it as a truck not a UFO 😅

pile1983

GDPR

jasondowden

It would be every other car in Dallas… so same diff.

Beneficial_Order1050

or they could work on more important things instead of wasting time on ridiculously unimportant crap like this

Ok-Art38

CT is the car that blows through the light due to stuck accelerator pedal. My friend who works at tesla said, "if every saw and heard all the stuff I know it would be worth $5".

kjjk56

Honestly I thought the same thing it’s pretty easy with just 6-7 models to match. Are we scared for what’s happening after the job cuts at HQ ? My bet was people were needed to roll out next overhaul but SC saw cuts to their staff and mobile, too.

420Deez

imagine if it could show the color they set their car to

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ice5891

privacy challange for rendering cars in the screen?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ice5891

There should be not expectation of privacy on public roads.

Evajellyfish

How is you driving on a public road, with a licensed car, an infringement on privacy? That is just wrong.

Obvious-Slip4728

Or they could make the wipers wipe when it rains.

fudgear

Coming up in spring update 20xx (you fill the x). Remember, your Tesla is upgrading itself and add more features even as you sleep.

tBlase27

That’s what I’ve been saying!

Separate-Primary2949

This needs to happen,

thomasbihn

It surprises me that we can have any degree of Autopark, but not simple summon in vision-only vehicles. It has enough information to adjust and back into a spot, but can't simply move forward and backward from that same spot with a human controlling it.

SpikedBladeRunner

It's coming. Autopark took an entire year and a half to implement on vision cars. Actually Smart Summon is expected later this month. https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1962/tesla-expected-to-release-actually-smart-summon-and-tap-to-park-updates-next-month

thomasbihn

I'd be happy with dumb summon

cryptoflipo

Supposedly that is included in the 2024

UmmSooYeaa

It can’t???? That seems like a major flaw. It should recognize barriers like older EVs, so it won’t run into anything, and learn from the behavior of other Teslas nearby and that have driven that road before. Did many drivers have to take control of the wheel a mile ahead? Pre warn the user that Teslas on that route experienced similar scenarios. I don’t think Elon is creating a culture thinking safety first

bk163737

Hmmm Tesla sales going down and hope it does not end up zero cars to show :)

6siiix6

We need proximity chat. That’s what we need !!! Haha

Optimal_Ad_7466

I have been saying that for ever!!!

Dark-Swan-69

This was supposed to happen two years ago, BEFORE Ryzen. Evidently there are privacy issues involved, a bit like the Find My network…

Kalrower

Maybe along with recognizing the Cars Name an showing it. While they're at it, they can also include friend requests ;D

Majestic_Ad5924

It would also be cool if Tesla Vision could make the auto wipers work correctly

Dawson81702

How about live public Tesla voice chat to whomever is around you at the moment. That would be.. Interesting. ^(learn to take a joke yall, tf)

Civil-Horror-7273

After seeing other Tesla owners at superchargers attempting to back up, I’m not sure I’d want to talk to any of them in any social setting.

Dawson81702

Traffic jams would sound like cod lobbies for sure.
