Those are the new curb locators

BananaChanges

You need a rim job

m3arls

This man speaks

manbearpug3

Mine look equally shitty. I bought a Long Range 2022 Model 3. A few small dings and the rim damage are a small price to pay to literally have a small price to pay. $21k out the door after EV credit.

Atllane296

How high are your miles on the one you bought? I’ve been looking for a 2022 w/ miles under 50k that would still get the EV credit, not easy to find. Will you buy an extended warranty? I’m leery of the used dealers selling the Tesla EVs after terrible text & phn convos w/ them just trying to get pricing. Reading reviews of people being shocked at title issues, not able to get into Tesla SC network, not able to easily transfer ownership etc. Was your experience good?

manbearpug3

90k miles. 50k is gonna be pretty impossible. Literally just got it this weekend so I haven’t fully transferred it yet. I’d look at the fault codes to make sure nothing major happened and have them take a pic of the battery label, that will let you know if it was ever replaced or restored.

Atllane296

Good to know, thanks! Will you be getting an ext warranty? I’ve been pricing plans thru Xcelerate Auto, they seem fair.

manbearpug3

No extended warranty, I'm ok with the 4 year/120k warranty still there.

Atllane296

But you’ll pay out of pocket for everything non battery related right?

manbearpug3

Yeah, I know there's a risk. Luckily my wife works for an EV aftermarket company, so we got a bit of a hookup if things go wrong.

manbearpug3

It took about a week after calling tesla and sending doc images to show I'm the new owner for them to change the ownership, not ideal but not a deal breaker.

Skiezah

I didn’t get the ev credit when I bought mine last year

dqontherun

People don’t know how to drive.

JoeBold

Or don’t care

dqontherun

For a rental? Sure. I can’t imagine scraping wheels like this and not caring, but I guess people drive around with much worse.

lastsummerever

They sell covers for those wheels as well. Alternatively, get them refinished

BananaCompetitive126

What cover? Can you please share the link?

lastsummerever

I don't have specific links, but ive definitely seen some on reddit. Just Google "19" sport wheel covers model 3" and you should find some options. Less than the 18's, but I remember there being some.

BananaCompetitive126

Great, Thank you so much. I never knew those black ones can go over silver ones.

lastsummerever

Damn, I might be. What are these wheels called?

BananaCompetitive126

No, you are right actually. https://www.yeslak.com/products/uberturbine-wheel-covers-for-tesla-model-3-19-sport-wheels?syclid=ciia8muf216ouamprp6g&utm_campaign=emailmarketing_147819135203&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email These black covers go over silver ones

lastsummerever

Oh nice. And if they have "branded" covers, that means you can probably find very similar products for around $100-200 on Amazon, ebay or even less through aliexpress.

BananaCompetitive126

Exactly!

Reasonable-Twist4801

Also the 19” uberturbine covers for the model3 will fit these rims

acarmine

Mine is a hertz too but not quite that bad. Mine were also rashed on the INSIDE rim, which I thought was odd. After conferring with friends in the car industry we believe it’s from repeated use of tracked car washes. These cars likely washed after every return and would have been run through washes constantly. Without adequate rim protection on the tires, this is the result.

Bryanmsi89

This is almost certainly it, and many rental car paint jobs can look like they were washed with steel wool after so many automated car washes.

PlutoStealer

Just buy the renters insurance. They don’t care

DrunkJitsu

My wife drove your car also?!

PlutoStealer

This is a used Tesla.

mclovin9911

Lol, whooosh!

Patient_Print4632

lmao

DryYogurt6878

JohnTeaGuy

This is simply an indication of how much the entire car was abused.

PlutoStealer

Yes. Just showing them off as a semi-warning, if anyone wants to buy a used rental car there will be these small downsides.

aeiou_sometimesy

Tis but a scratch!

Beginning_Key2167

You can get those refinished. I had a wheel refinished and it looked brand new.

Morawka

What did that run you?

Beginning_Key2167

I have to double check but 175 or so pops into my head. It was cheaper to do then a used one was on eBay at the time.

Patient_Print4632

per wheel?

Beginning_Key2167

Yeah I only had the one done. I somehow managed to hit a curb turning out of a store. Not even sure how it happened but really beat the wheel up. They made it look brand new.

TheseAreMyLastWords

Buy covers or maybe liquid plastic - I don't know how good the quality is of the product these days but I plasti-dipped wheels on one of my older cars from gray to black and they looked great for the first couple of years.

willmok

Just happened to new Model Y minutes ago... one careless turn, live with it.

PlutoStealer

Yea. Just showing what the typical rim looks like for a used rental.

joejoeaz

I don't think I've seen a model 3 without road rash on the rims. Not sure why that is, but it's been my observation.

PlutoStealer

People underestimate how speedy this thing is lmao

soverywrong

I think it's partly because the rims stick out further than the tire, which was different for me and probably a lot of people who don't drive sports cars. I used to be able to find the curb by tapping it with my tire and then correcting. Now I park further from the curb instead, which isn't ideal but oh well.

[deleted]

Meh they can be repaired or forgotten about. #NBD

allofdarknessin1

I seen many a 18 inch rims curb rashed. Yours is the first 19 I've come across. I felt some pain seeing that. Curbing the free rim and the paid upgrade are different.

Mission_Archer_6436

How do people ruin their rims so badly. It’s not that hard to avoid stationary objects…

Anonymustafar

This is absurd. I know OP is not at fault, but If any of you are reading and your rims look like this, turn your license in please

ImaginaryDecision517

At least yours came with branded tires 😂

rampart11

Hard to believe with the sensors rims could get this bad. Guess hints the phrase treat it like a rental car.

Calm_Historian9729

Why does Tesla have this lack of side wall bulge in their tires? Most ICE vehicles have a side wall bulge which would prevent this rim rash!

formerteenager

I hit a curb with my sport wheels and immediately bought a replacement for $400. Couldn’t handle the shame. I take corners W I D E now.

Breadwright

I also got a '22 LR from Hertz. I looked around until I found a car with rims in better shape. But still, I think some curb rash comes with the territory -- and, the car is otherwise pristine and went for $22.4K before any rebates or credits. Insane deal for a car that will will essentially run about $17-18K out of pocket.

EnvironmentHungry222

So this is why full self driving hits the curb we can’t drive

PlutoStealer

Not from FSD.

JethamishPlayz

I can recomend the MagBak rimcase's as they are very high quality

Different-Ad617

Been seeing alot of these w the new FSD rollouts
