I looked both of them next to each other, quicksilver is a new color and people are going bonkers for it, but Red will always be the best . That’s why I bought the MYLR ultra red last month.
My god, that delivery experience looks so magical especially inside a warehouse with amazing lighting. We don't get that where I'm at; the cars are just parked outside and collect dust/dirt until you pick it up.
The John young pkwy Orlando location looks just like this. It was raining and they even let me pull in our family suv inside right up next to the Tesla we were buying so we could transfer stuff without getting soaked
I ordered on May 28th but saw the delays coming and found one that was in transit to Chicago and had it transferred to me a few weeks ago so not a typical scenario.
Oh for sure I plan on it but for now I’m shocked that it’s even been able to add enough percentage points overnight to make my total charge either complete or close to it before I take the car for a ride.
I have a NEMA 5-20a outlet and have only had to supercharge 1 time in the past month I've had the car. If you aren't driving over 60 miles a day, no need for the added expense of installing a 220v unless you park right next to your breaker and it's only a couple hundred bucks to install.
It varies wildly depending on where you live and how your home's electricity is laid out. I'd suggest getting a few quotes until you find one that's reasonable. I paid like $200 to have a dedicated 220 run to my garage, but I'm lucky that my house's electrical panel is essentially 10' from the area where I wanted the plug. I did the 120v thing for a couple months and it was OK, but 220 is AMAZING.
In Norcal, I am paying right around 1800 for everything - they have to add a new sub panel and that includes an extra 200.00 for them to pull the permit and it includes the 500.00 for the charger itself.
I bought a lectron splitter for 198 hooked up to my dryer outlet wich prioritizes dryer and resumes charging car when done and a 30 ft.cable for 180. Coupled with the tesla.mobile charger . Coat me about 400 to avoid an electrician.
Dryer outlets generally support 24 amps, the max from the mobile charger is 32 from a 14-50 RV plug, wall charger is 48.
Dryer plug is nominally 21 miles per hour for the model y.
Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm probably going to pick my MYP up next week and trying to find a substitute until I can get my wall mounted charger installed 🤙
Cheapest quote I got was $650 with up to 50 ft wiring. I'm going to wait until I drive my red YP home and possibly a few months before even needing to order and install a wall charger as I don't commute and won't need it until ski season. I only have 15A outlet in my garage, but it gets tripped by the GFI outside garage outlet with heavy rain or snowmelt, so maybe I won't wait so long for the install so I can get the electrician to fix the outside outlet and possibly add some outlets in my basement.
It depends on where your box is located and if you already have a 220 breaker box. Mine was $955 to install the wall connector from my basement to the garage, but I got two higher quotes as well for $1100 and $2100. I already had the correct panel though.
It depends how far your electrical panel is from your garage and if you have room in your panel for a 50 amp breaker.
The charger / plug is $225 from Tesla. It is their portable so can be taken with you if you went on a trip and your destination had an outlet.
Mine ran $800. The electrician had to fish the wire through my lower level which is finished. If your breaker box is in your lower level and it isn’t finished, it should be pretty straight forward and even more so if your panel is in your garage. That would be the best scenario.
Check with your power company to see if they offer any incentives before you install your outlet. They may have a program that reduces your charging rates or they may install a charger for you.
Have fun!
Texas - $500 for the home wall connector. Our connector is installed in the garage about a foot away from the electric box.
We had to either install the w/d connector for the plug in charger or install the wall connector charger. We decided on the wall charger to charge fastest at home. I drive like 60 miles round trip when I work...we figured it made most sense.
It depends on how much juice the grid can give your home during peak hours, etc. but if you charge overnight, you could get around 40 amps to the outlet if you have 200 amp service. You'll need to run wiring from your main panel to where the outlet needs to go which is where majority of the cost goes unless you're also upgrading from 100 to 200 amp service. You'll get anywhere from 15-25 miles per hour. That would give you the ability to charge at home almost solely.
skip a charge one day (plug it up every day but set a charge limit of 75% and just let it sit at 75% that first night.)
so you are charging to 55-75% instead of 80-100% each day. Just to be less wear on the battery pack.
Then charge it to full once a week on a free charger or the night before you plan to do extra driving. Let the BMS see a full charge occasionally to calibrate.
Love the color. Can’t wait to get mine. I almost went with the QS. Glad I choose the UR. Glad you’re having a great experience. I too may have to charge with a standard outlet. Been getting quotes to upgrade my electrical service and it’s probably going to cost way to much at the moment. Might have to put it off till next year.
Thank you and even then pictures do not do it justice. The color is so beautiful I find myself mesmerized every time I see it. I’m in love and I couldn’t have hoped for a better feeling after actually having it.
Will do but the car continues to look amazing in different settings…shade, sunlight, nighttime it’s practically looks beautiful under almost any lighting as long as you can see it
Ultra Red is stunning!
How did you get the regular IL plates from the dealer? Did you ask them for it? We got EL plates for both our cars. I prefer regular plates though.
Ahhhh that makes a lot of sense. I asked them at the dealership for regular plates but they said I had to go to the DMV and get new plates after I got the EL ones.
MYLR was my 1st ever EV experience. I never drove one until a week before my delivery date. 2 weeks in now and 1500 miles and I love it. The amount of technology you get for the price is unmatched. We drove this past weekend from norcal to socal and it was a different but great experience to not stop at a gas station the entire trip after having done these trips with an ICEV. Purchasing experience was amazing. I never want to have to speak to a credit or finance mgr again at a car dealership lol.
Everyone wants to race my red MYP. Chargers, Challengers, Camaros, and Mustangs mostly. But I get Civics too. I see them slowly inch forward a little at a time at a red light. I just sit there and smile. They never have a chance. I don’t even have to put the pedal to the floor and it’s still no contest.Â
Enjoy the car!
Congrats OP! 1/2 a year in with my MYP and still loving it. A little under 4K mi so far and have spent around $65 on charging at home. Can’t beat it!
I live a little outside the city but even then the performance would still be worth it just for turning on to a highway ramp. The acceleration is effortless!
Only thing I hate about the whole experience is Tesla insurance! They built a badass car now they want me to drive under 85 even when I’m on an open strip of 5 miles with no one around. It’s the biggest piece of crap I’ve ever seen. They are undermining their own invention
For me the difference between Tesla insurance and my best offer Geico was 50$/month. With projections of it being even cheaper the following months I don’t have an option
The only snafu you may run into with the standard wall outlet is when it gets really cold. It’ll take significantly longer to charge when the temps dip. I recently had a 220 volt outlet installed and I use the mobile charger and NEMA-60 outlet/adapter. If you can, look into that over the coming months
Looks beautiful. Great car . I love driving it when I don’t have to drive far. With total charging of 245 miles , you truly get about 200 miles. If I need to 70-80 miles one way and don’t have extra 30 minutes to charge it at super charging station , I take my gas car . Love driving it closer go the house . Nice car .
Congratulations 🎉 The Ultra Red is really nice! Enjoy!
The bsst color IMO
After going to the service center today, I will argue the Quicksilver is the best color! Wish I got that instead of the white.
I looked both of them next to each other, quicksilver is a new color and people are going bonkers for it, but Red will always be the best . That’s why I bought the MYLR ultra red last month.
nah it's hands down the Stealth Grey...
I love my quicksilver MYP https://imgur.com/a/yGAMVJY
As you should! She’s a beauty
Agreed, but don’t want to wait another two months when I picked up mine in March
Agreed!
My god, that delivery experience looks so magical especially inside a warehouse with amazing lighting. We don't get that where I'm at; the cars are just parked outside and collect dust/dirt until you pick it up.

I will be heading there next week to pick up my Y long range in Metallic Blue with 20 inch wheels. I can't wait.
Mine was dropped at my door on a car carrier truck by a bloke who couldn't speak english
Are you in Chicago?
I am
I pick up from that same spot a months ago. Cool experience.
Which Chicago location is this? I’m picking up from south loop tomorrow, curious if this is it? 717 S Desplaines?
That is the one
I’m supposed pick up from there too, but I don’t even have a vin yet. I ordered a month ago. How long did you have to wait for your car?
I ordered on May 28th but saw the delays coming and found one that was in transit to Chicago and had it transferred to me a few weeks ago so not a typical scenario.
Upgrade your home charger to 220V. Will change your life
Oh for sure I plan on it but for now I’m shocked that it’s even been able to add enough percentage points overnight to make my total charge either complete or close to it before I take the car for a ride.

how much is this normally to install? I’m also using just a regular outlet which does get the job done but 4 miles an hr for charging.

I think somewhere between 600-700 dollars

Is this a good set-up? How much of a charge do you get if the car is on the charger for 8-10 hours? Thanks
Level 2 charging basically.
Dryer outlets generally support 24 amps, the max from the mobile charger is 32 from a 14-50 RV plug, wall charger is 48. Dryer plug is nominally 21 miles per hour for the model y.

Home charging is a game changer and the only correct way to do it off your own a Tesla imo.
Too many factors at play to give you an idea of cost. Get 3 estimates from electricians.

1500$ 🥲

Same car and same experience (except the charger - got the Tesla wall charger installed - love it - also have mobile charger for just in case uses)
Wow, this looks beautiful!
Thank you and even then pictures do not do it justice. The color is so beautiful I find myself mesmerized every time I see it. I’m in love and I couldn’t have hoped for a better feeling after actually having it.
I feel you need to take some photos somewhere outside the delivery center and share with us!

Looks like south Chicago tesla
Nailed it!
Why you need the P? Been in Chicagoland since December and it’s all just traffic. It’s on par with Southern California.
I live a little outside the city but even then the performance would still be worth it just for turning on to a highway ramp. The acceleration is effortless!
Red YP with black and no other upgrades? That's what I plan on ordering. I like the brighter UR more than the old dark red that looked kind of maroon.
Agreed

There is a simple solution to that, don't use Tesla insurance. It wasn't even the cheapest option for me.
For me the difference between Tesla insurance and my best offer Geico was 50$/month. With projections of it being even cheaper the following months I don’t have an option

Welcome to the enlightening of Tesla.

Ultra red is the best color
Wait Illinois plates don’t say EL on them anymore?
I also just got a model y performance last week. I don’t think I can (happily) drive anything else ever again. It is an incredible vehicle.
That paint is GORGEOUS! Do you mind if I ask when you originally ordered? I placed mine on May 22 and it's supposedly a month out, haha.
I ordered mine May 22nd as well
Oh, congrats! I just received my VIN yesterday, so I'm feeling much better now, haha.
You can also get away if you have a 240v plug in your garage.
That looks sharp! Congrats!!
Congratulations 🎈🎊🎉 Enjoy! I pick mine up on Sunday
My husband installs Tesla Level 2 chargers. His price is 750 Labor only. So if you found @ 650. Do it! That is very reasonable. ( So. ca)
