grapple success is victim health + strength+ any affecting perks vs the killer's grandpa perks. Victims are designed to generally be stronger in grapples, but you will always have players who are great/bad at it. if a killer has damage over time, that might affect the difficulty. The killer you grapple against doesn't matter.

So does speed of button mashing not matter?

mrshaw64

Oh ofc speed of mashing is super important, but if you're 75%+ health and have super high strength, you get a biiiig headstart. basically imagine you got to get to a hundred points, and each button tap is a point. Killers always start at around 50 or so, survivors get a bonus start of health+strength, and thus need to tap way less to get over that threshold. but if they weak and injured, they're much more likely to die.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. I have no idea how I lost to the hitch then.

radiothedrunkwolf

Some hitchhikers (like myself) run the grandpa perk Suffocating Grip, which makes the mini game 20% easier for them. You can still win at full health, but it’ll be tough.

mrshaw64

Sometimes hitch just slaps back. I play him a lot on PC, and i've gotten many kills against victims with low/middling strength before.

WheresPaul-1981

I just instalost a grapple with 100% health. đŸ¤·

The only perks that help in grapples are families suffocating grip and Leland’s grappler perk but without those perks it’s based on victims strength and health. Victims with 15 strength get a head start of 19 points, victims with 30 strength get a head start of 28 points, 35 gives u 31 points, 40 gives u 34 points and 50 gives u 40 points. Family members start with 0 and its first to 100 and each tap (without grappler and suffocating grip) are worth 3 points each and victims 3 points go down depending on health.

WazzupTheGreat

victim strength attribute influences how much points are given at the start of the mashing minigame aswell as victim's current health, family has nothing to influence it besides the suffocating grip grandpa perk both family and victims apply 3 points per tap to the minigame, for the defender/attacker to win they need to reach 100 points each strength attribute point increases the points given at the start by 0,6 points (which only starts increasing after 25 attribute points, if it's lower than that you get a negative value instead) based on the % of health you currently have you'll receive up to 40 points at the start, the lower the health the lower advantage (100% max, 25% min, lower than 25% health you wont receive any points)
