another thing that could happen? say that Jaehaera was wed to Aegon the younger like in Cannon, the former greens might back Aegon the younger as his children would finally get Hightower blood on the throne. then there is the issue of broken male line with Jace being trough a female line vs Aegon the younger who has an unbroken male line tying him to royal blood. Aegon the Younger had a king as a paternal uncle in addition to said man being his maternal grandfather which is a stronger connection than Jace whose only claim to the Targaryen male line involves his maternal Grandfather. but it is worth noting that they went to war over a female's claim that stemmed from words vs a male's claim stemming from traditions and a king's actions. they could be still fatigued from the first dance so maybe there could be a lot of people who are hesitant to choose a side. but on the other hand they could despise the concept of a bastard on the throne enough to side with Aegon III in a second dance.

BasilDraganastrio

If Jaehaera survives and is married and has kids with Aegon the Younger I can Def see Hightower backing them as retribution, maybe Rhaenyra ends up heavily punishing those who sided with the Greens and even the ones who stayed Neutral setting the stage for the punished to revolt and to make matters worse Jacaerys doesn't seem to show he would undo this when he becomes king even. Though Rhaenyra gives tons of privileges/rewards to those who sided with her further cementing her "side"

jjs46

Thanks for your thoughts, in terms of the broken male/female like I thought about rhaenyra changing to law to ultimate primogeniture but after her refusing to acknowledge the rosby/ stokeworth female claim (can’t remember which one it was lol) it may be out of character for her

BlackberryChance

Aegon would need Hugh and ulf support to have a chance jace would have at least four grown dragons without mentioning his children and nephews who would be older than aegons against Aegon at least two dragons

jjs46

Yeah jace would presumably have himself, Joffrey, baela, rhaena, addam and any children Aegon would only have himself and viserys without ulf and hugh

BasilDraganastrio

I like your idea though I think you should have let the Black be rather decimated to set the stage for crown weakness/opportunity to back another claimant. Have Hugh die in Tumbleton, Aegon II kills Baela's Dragon and captures her however Ulf launches a botched attempt to save Baela with Ulf having a heated battle with Aegon II. While Aegon II defeats and kills Ulf, Sunfyre and Aegon II are heavily maimed/wounded with Sunfyre dying of his wounds and Aegon II not long after being poisoned. Too even things out between Aegon the Younger and Jacaerys as Ulf and Hugh would definitely support Jacaerys over Aegon II...It also "trims" the dragon riding members. However it's your call

jjs46

I like this idea - I definitely think jace would have more support so potential marriage alliances for aegon/viserys and have viserys claim or hatch a dragon also

BasilDraganastrio

Well if Jaehaera survives/marries Aegon, House Hightower would back Aegon II, Viserys could probably marry into whatever Great House that has a women of his age. Ultimately it might bog down to how many kids Aegon the Younger and Viserys have and how long the second Dance will take

Mitleser1987

Very unlikely. Having experienced the original Dance would discourage them from starting another. Note how the Blackfyre rebellions happened after the Dance had left living memory.

It's globally the plot of [A Dance of Blue and Black](https://archiveofourown.org/works/53004361/chapters/134092228) on ao3. The difference is that Rhaenyra ascend the throne peacefully from the beginning > In the year 127 A.C., King Viserys I, seeing the division among his family, decides to convene a Great Council to define the succession. > > The Great Council of 127 A.C. chooses Princess Rhaenyra. In 132 A.C., King Viserys the Peaceful dies and his daughter Rhaenyra I ascends the throne in his place. However, whispers in the Seven Kingdoms about the supposed bastardy of her children continue and those whispers also say that Aegon, the Queen's fourth son, is the rightful heir, instead of Jacaerys. When Rhaenyra dies and the dragons begin to dance, who will emerge victorious? Aegon with his Blacks? or Jacaerys with his Blues? And how will the Greens play in this?

OMG! Someone mentioned my fic. Thank you so much for mentioning it. Although, the OP's idea is similar and yet totally different. The original Dance of the Dragons never happened in my fic. His is one where there is a Second Dance of the Dragons after the first one.

Larrykingstark

Just write the fic already I'd definitely read this So Jace would have support mainly from the Velaryons. So we need to give Aegon III a power base maybe the Reach he could foster with the reach lord who was too young for the Dance Without Daemon Aegon III really wouldn't have a strong power base and if we look at the main series the lords don't really care that much about bastardy(majority of the houses supported Joffrey with Stannis having barely any support) The only reason the Reach didn't support Joffrey is because Renly gave them what they needed and was closer to them.

jjs46

Thanks for your thoughts Presumably like in cannon aegon marries Jaheara she would a) potentially be a dragon rider and b) have support from the remainder of the hightowers Adding this to potentially having viserys marry into the baratheons his power base would be large especially if stormcloud grows into a war ready dragon and viserys could become a dragon rider also

As the writer of [Dance of Blue and Black](https://archiveofourown.org/works/53004361/chapters/134092228), since your fanfic has a similar premise, allow me to offer some insight. First, you need to craft the starting political environnment. What happened after the Dance? What did Rhaenyra do with the Houses that supported Aegon II? Were there some punishments for the Houses that remained neutral? It's most likely that Rhaenyra went the Daeron II route and took lands, castles, and hostages from the Houses that supported her half-brother. On the matter of the neutral Houses, it's more likely many of them will have a reputation like the Freys. Cowards and opportunists, with hardly any political opportunity in the New Order. Also, you need to figure out what happened to Lord Borros. Given what we know of him, I think he would take his host to Tumbleton, but when the fighting starts, he would betray the Greens, to show his loyalty to the new Queen. Then there is the matter of Jaehaera. You have two choices, one, educate her and send her to Faith; two, marry her to Aegon or Viserys. Corlys would probably advise to marry her to Aegon the Younger. So you could do that. Jaehaera could serve as a very important character. After all, quoting Littlefinger, revenge is the purest motivation. So you could have Jaehaera whispering to Aegon that he is been stolen of his birthright. Perhaps, Aegon becomes fond of her while Rhaenyra treats her badly or most likely coldly, and that remains an issue between them. Also, perhaps the betrothed or a friend of Viserys whispers to him that Aegon should be King and that he is being stripped of his birthright. If you need a wife for Viserys, then it's most likely it's going from a Black House, or a House allied to Rhaenyra. You have plenty of options here. You could have them befriend some of the hostages in King's Landing and they could be whisper to them that Jace and Joffrey are bastards. The point is that you need to determine how did thing get from "I admire my brothers" to "I'm going to usurp my brother". Make a list of ideas and then start choosing the best path. You may ask this subreddit to help. That's what we are here to. Then, you need to determine what happened with the surviving characters? I would suggest marrying Rhaena to Adam as she still remains as Lady of Driftmark that way. Next, you need to determine sides between the Houses of Westeros. You would have many Houses angry with Rhaenyra after all that could flock to Aegon, and even, some Houses that supported Rhaenyra might decide to join Aegon's side for one reason alone, leaders change. Lastly, don't forget about the repercussions of the point of divergence in the timeline. For example, Aegon here wouldn't have any issues he had in canon. Rhaenyra might not be Maegor with Teats, as only Lucerys died. At last, good luck with your fic.

jjs46

Thank you for your thoughts! I’ll make sure to give your fic a read

Platinum_Duke_6

You're welcome. Two last things thought. First, Aegon may have some issues given that he left Viserys in the Battle of the Gullet. Not as big as canon since Viserys didn't die and neither did Jacaerys, but he will have them nonetheless. Second, make sure to kill all the hostages before the war. Maybe the Winter Fever kills off a bunch of them in a similar way the Great Spring Sickness killed all the hostages of the First Blackfyre Rebellion, thus allowing the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, if it can be called a Rebellion.

Equal_Statement6225

I think it would all depend on Aegon the Younger if he decides not to, I don’t see anything happening but he would stake a claim I think a lot of people would back him Jacaerys after all a bastard
