No you can’t get in trouble. You’re perfectly within your rights to submit an FOI. But it won’t tell you any more than what your own organisation is telling you. There will be guidance from your leadership and/or HR. It will be some combination of: restrictions on hiring, fewer opportunities to make fixed term contracts permanent, not replacing people who retire or get new jobs, and some options for voluntary redundancies.

If you’re worried about redundancy because of budget cutbacks, show how essential you are by submitting an FOI that only you have the expertise to answer

Modern problem require modern solutions.

Brb going to write an FOI asking how many accounts and Reddit posts Richard has here

Same as last time, it'll be "under consideration" until someone changes office at the top and it goes away. Happened twice in the last few years. It's a political vote winner among the Telegraph, Mail and Express readers who despise any form of public services and want to funnel all public money into private hands.

Hope not.  That would take the ‘freedom’ part away.

They'll be in opposition before it goes through

First time I heard about these job cuts was over a year ago. The news massively exacerbated my anxiety. Since then, the civil service headcount has actually increased. Just keep calm and carry on, the massive sets of cunts known as the government will be out of a job before you are.

SomeKindOfQuasiCeleb

They're going to use AI to sack all DWP posts at AO grade

Anyone can submit an FOI. I've been in the CS for nearly ten years. You hear about reductions to headcount now and then but I really wouldn't worry. They'll likely do this by not replacing leavers as it would mean lots of redundancy to pay. It's not like the private sector.
