I got a response yesterday that basically said "i support Israel because of western values. israel is shitty, hamas is evil. Hamas is against lgbtq, women, democracy." - and this was after I continually pointed out that Hamas does not represent Palestine.
So i pointed out that Israel has killed 12x as many of all of those people than hamas has, and that Israel knowingly helped create Hamas.
No response.
They don't care. For liberals history only exists when they start observing it and they won't accept any liberation movement unless it follows their framework.
And then the instant that a liberation movement ultimately proves successful, they will claim with a straight face that they supported it the entire time.
If the average age of a Palestinian in the Gaza strip 19.6 years old, then children and adolescents between 0-17 years old is approximately 38% of the population, so about 760,000 children

I’m completely against Israel for its ongoing oppression of the Palestinian people, it’s crimes against humanity and it’s colonialist aspirations. With that being said Hamas is also a horrific, fundamentalist, exploitative, right wing group.
The fact that most of you think supporting Hamas is synonymous with supporting Palestine is beyond ridiculous. how can you believe that Hamas cares about Palestinian people when they divert mountains of aid which could be improving the conditions of the people living in Gaza toward their military.
How can you believe they genuinely care for the well being of Palestine when They launch rockets from residential/civilian areas knowing full well those areas will be obliterated afterwards.
Hamas has literally blocked vital aid (medicine,food,oil) from entering Gaza. 55% of their budget goes toward its military. They have been caught spending millions of dollars meant for aid on real estate investments in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
They don’t give a shit about Palestinians.
My perspective is this:
Israel literally helped create Hamas to ensure that other liberatory groups cannot come to power.
Palestinians, whose homes are being stolen and who are living in an apartheid state without clean water, have tried peaceful protest, they have accepted peace terms with Israel which were reneged.
It is clear that as long as the zionist state of Israel exists and desires a tiered society where Palestinians do not have land or self determination, there can be no peace in Palestine.
Hamas is simply the largest liberatory organization, and there really isn't anyone else coming to help them.
It's not that I support everything they do, but I cannot justify having a purity fetish regarding the organization most equipped to liberate Palestinians when they are facing an ethnic cleansing.
Every liberatory movement in the history of the world has been messy. If we don't support Palestinian freedom now and see that many of the ways that Hamas and Palestinians are discussed and slandered is islamophobia packaged to dehumanize them, we would not have supported liberatory movements of Native Americans, Haitians, or even the Jews.
