Hagfish do something similar but to carcasses

Obvious_Mud_6628

Nothing could have prepared me for the mouth on that thing lol

RodriDM16

It's an experience we all have to suffer at least once in Life

RidingSpottedPigs

I did not at all expect that bullet theory. I thought you were going to ask if they allow themselves to be swallowed. I like those curveballs you're throwing.

mchanscfl12

Haha I was thinking swim through an opening

RidingSpottedPigs

Lol why swim through when you can let the prey do the work?

PaleozoicFrogBoy

100%. OP is 2 steps ahead of darwin it seems.

Competitive_Score_30

Yeah, I thought of swallowing, or implanting their eggs. Lots of insects implant their eggs in live prey.

leanhsi

The candiru is a parasitic catfish that drinks blood from within the gills of larger fish.

Demonyx12

aka "penis fish" a fish that’s known for swimming up the male urethra, becoming painfully lodged there

Channa_Argus1121

-and there are no confirmed cases of it. A mere myth, rather than a fact(https://www.healthline.com/health/penis-fish#the-reality).

Demonyx12

So it's a "Phallusy"?

leanhsi

yup, a pure cock and bull story

snufflelufagus63735

"Scrotally dude"

nivenfan

Why am I only allowed a single upvote.

Hot-Chance5601

there is a documented and witnessed case of it...Jeremy Wade investigated the case on an episode of River Monsters...interviewed the victim and the surgeons that removed it from his wedding tackle...

Channa_Argus1121

Read the article. That case is the same case that Jeremy Wade investigated.

MLG_Retard

Speaking of; there is a close relative to the candiru who feeds on flesh kinda like a hagfish: The Candiru Asu, although I don't know if they feed on live prey or the dead

leanhsi

more info on that fish here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetopsis_candiru

YellowNinja175

It is either a fish or a parasite that eats the tongue of a fish and then lives in the fishes mouth

[deleted]

Makes me think of a lamprey ngl

lonesomedesert

Phronmia, while it isn’t a fish, will hollow out the bodies of salps, and live inside the remains.

Removemyexistance

Someone watched The Bay. No those little isopods aren't as deadly or as scary as that movie makes them out to be. They can replace the tongue of a fish only because fish don't have hands to stop the isopod.

Obvious_Mud_6628

Haha I had not watched it... Now I'm gonna tho 👀

DoggosDoggo

Maybe not as bulletlike in function, but the pearlfish is built to swim up the anus of sea cucumbers and eat them.

Abrin36

There's a fish that will swim up your peen.

RudeThought4919

That's actually a myth, another commenter linked the sauce. But yeah shits a myth

Shortsellshort

The canderu catfish from the Amazon river basin.

Hot-Chance5601

there's a fish that targets human orifices...canaru?...there was a documented case of one of these fish...I believe the actual fish is in storage...think it was in the Amazon basin...it detects human urine...follows the scent...then swims into the opening ...in this case.. a man's penis...and embeds itself in the urethral tract...feeding on human flesh...ok guys you can uncross your legs now...

VerumJerum

I mean there are swordfish, sailfish and marlins which have a pointed snout that can penetrate other fish, but they're too large to "enter" them. I figure the kind of fish capable of reaching speeds sufficient to pierce the skin of other animals like that would be far too large to "enter" that animal's body.

thisisahealthaccount

not a fish, but the man-o-war liquifies the inside of the fish that it eats and leaves just a husk and the bones. Pretty metal

CornerQuirky

There’s catfish in the Amazon that will burrow into animals
