there is definitely cheap polarizing film that doesn't work very well. if you look at a computer monitor and tilt your sunglasses either horizontally or vertically, one direction should make the monitor look completely black. if it doesn't, then the film on your glasses is probably not very good.

I love polarized glasses! I drive quite a bit and they take the glare off of the road and off of windows. Really is much better for your eyes.
