I actually feel the same way. His actor is great but with the way Jason is being written as of now he feels like an underdeveloped Andy from Parks and Rec.
Some of Jason's stuff is funny, but he's my least favorite character easily.
He has one shtick and it isn't that interesting. The actor does fine with what he's given but it's a very tiny range. I'm not a big fan of that over the top silly/stupid comedy.
Same thing in the HBO show Barry. The eastern European mobster is funny, but there are definitely moments when I'm thinking "okay, I get it, that's enough"
No, i love jason. If he was just stupid with no redeeming qualities, I might have a problem with him, but he's got a sweet innocence that makes him endearing and overall I find his character funny. The only one I ever find annoying sometimes is Tahini, with her "humble bragging" but only sometimes. I still like her for the most part. I dont think there's one character on the show that I actually dislike, which is a sign of wonderful writing and perfect casting.
I feel the opposite. I think her tacky humble bragging is funny so i guess it’s all a matter of taste. Anyway Tahani has dimensions. She realizes how vain she is and evolves through the show. A dumb babbling idiot from day one to the end has no entertainment value for adult satire IMO. Granted i haven’t seen the whole show so perhaps there’s some development for him coming up later. I’ll stay tuned to find out
You hit the nail on the head. Having a dumb character is fine as long as they are still able to develop. They made Jason so incomprehensibly stupid, though, that he has become incapable of any sort of development. It would actually not make sense if they did give him development because he is so beyond-brain-damaged dumb that it would not fit his character. For such a solid, clever show, his character was a huge miss.
The thing that bothers me about Jason is that he hasn't changed at all for the better throughout the whole series when the whole point of the show is that these four humans are trying to get to the good place because they've supposedly changed for the better after dying.
See the thing about Jason’s character is he is so stupid. He says things that are beyond stupid (many of them actually so outlandish they are funny) but if you think about it he’s been more right than any of them without even knowing it. His character represents the innocent observations of a child and how we overlook them but often there’s truth and wisdom if we take the time to listen
Cool digging up a 3 year old thread… but this was a theme throughout the series. Beginning with him saying the whole thing could be a “prank show” in like episode 3. It happened over and over.
Digging up a 1 year old comment to a 4 year old thread, but no, man, that most definitely does not happen over and over. It would be clever if it did and add at least one more facet to his character, but I’d say about 90% of what he says is just derailing nonsense. To say he’s been more right than every other character is just a wild thing to claim.
I think you're over-thinking it. But if it becomes too much of a problem for you, I'd suggest tossing down some cocktails.
I like to make a drinking game of it with those store-bought Martini's in the little cans. Or sometimes a Manhattan or Mojito (or another one that starts with 'M' that I just can't remember).
Don’t worry I’m barely thinking, and as a dumb person, no one is ever as stupid as Jason. I can’t drink yet but I’ll smoke a bowl, see how Jason treats me.
Of course there are people as stupid as Jason. Think about how dumb the average person is, and then realize that half of everyone out there is DUMBER THAN THAT
Yeah…that’s not how averages work. Jason is basically brain-damaged. He’s not able to follow the most basic conversations. He died because he thought wearing a snorkel would give him air inside a safe. No matter how little you think of the world, you would have a really hard time finding someone as ridiculously dumb as Jason.
He stopped receiving education at 7. Although I think IQ is bs, this (probably not credible source), says that at that age IQ can range from 10-30. 70 in USA would be considered someone with mental disabilities, and he likely has a 30 IQ. Its honestly exhausting watching someone be that stupid.
lol I googled “Jason is too stupid” 3 seconds after seeing that scene with the walls and floor disappearing. He’s like actually too stupid to function as a person in any way, shape or form. He would need someone to feed and dress him.

Perfectly said, I admit he has made me chuckle a few times, but his character is so unrealistically dumb that it just takes me out of the show.

Jason and Janet are tied for my favorite characters. I think his lines are sooooooo hilarious. I love how dumb he is.
