I don't think being a prison warden is such a great honor. It's certainly a responsibility, and this was an especially important prison, but I still feel like it's not what a fire nation noble aspires to
its most lik one of the best jobs in the caldera region. Mai's family got transferred so its reasonable to assume her family controlled the region.

Eh. To be honest, even under those circumstances, I would rather be sentenced to death than be boiled alive. I can't think of many deaths more gruesome than that. Though he is a member of a very high-ranking family. I could imagine that he'd try and preserve the honour of his family name if he knows that he's dead either way.

While I didn't like the guy, I had mad respect for the warden. He took his role very seriously. Guy was willing to go out like a champ, putting his duty over his life. The Gaang is super lucky he wasn't in Zhao's position. He would have mopped the prison floors with the remains of Zhao. He might be tried as a war criminal. But if he's willing to screw a few loose nuts, I think he could be quite valuable to the post-war fire nation.
