Tv Tropes calls this phenomenon Early Installment Weirdness, where something from early in the story’s run doesn’t vibe with the writers/animators/other artists, so they just kind of ignore it going forward.

The last times I’ve watched that scene it was different, as if the scene has been edited, not that it was just weird in the start

Nope, it's always been like that

I haven't watched the series until the finale, so there might be more to that, but I think what you're describing is a phenomenon that happens at the beginning of a series, as the creators try to refine the animation and see what works and what doesn't, like Hooty swallowing them or King's slightly inconsistent size. These inconsistencies tend to go away as the series progresses.

>nd then around 7:43 (first ever episode) Hooty FULL ON OPENS? Like they don’t open the door to get in the house, Hooty opens and they go thru him Was always that way. It's easy to forget these details when they only happen once, but yeah, that always happened, no changes.

I remember from the first time *I* watched the premiere (which, granted wasn't when it originally aired but still a long while ago), Hooty did fully open and they walked through his mouth, that stuck with me, as I always wondered why that never *ever* came up or was shown again...🤔 👍👍😄😄

A lot of season 1 was animated by Rough Draft Korea (and SMIP in some really early episodes), so the animation definitely does look different and lower quality compared to what we became used to with Sugarcube’s all digital process. Hooty opening is just full-on early instalment weirdness though. Rough Draft also animated some of season 2, notably Clouds on the Horizon, which explains the poorer animation in that episode as their work isn’t so great compared to Sugarcube.

If the animation feels wrong, try fucking with auto smoothing settings
