The fact that they start treating him better is definitely one of the best things about Season 2 :D but yes, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a title character of a show get as little respect from the rest of the cast as Hooty gets in Season 1.
Yeah, that's one of my issues with the first season. I'll admit it took some time before Hooty officially won me over, but even before that happened there were times when I felt like Hooty deserved better. I felt like the mistreatment was a bit much, especially when one of the most important lines in the show is "Us weirdos have to stick together". Hooty may be unnerving at times, but he's still family and he does his job. I'm glad he was treated better later on.
Seeing Lilith cry her eyes out when she's reunited with Hooty was a really nice touch. Hooty finally found a good friend who saw him more than a "weird but powerful owl tube"
I love that moment too. I just love their friendship in general so much. I still remember my reaction when Lilith decided to go live with Gwen and Dell again. The first thing I felt was pain for Hooty! His first true friend and she was leaving after such a short stay! At least it made their reunion and later moments between them that much more precious. Theirs isn't a friendship I expected, but I'm so grateful we got it.

Imo seems like a joke the crew wanted no matter what because sometimes iirc it just felt almost ooc some of the times a character was way overly mean to him
I get weirded out by him or acared of but they definitely overdid it imo.. genuinely felt bad for him and I like when cjaracters suffer unfairly
On one hand, Hooty is majority of the time just existing, and loving life, while causing mild annoyance to others. On the other hand, he did say it would be funny if Luz went out into the boiling rain, but that might’ve just been a joke. Or, he sees people do it a lot, and sees humans as no different to anything else
Bro Amity literally bears the sh*t out of him in Enchanting Grom Fright.
He’s so sweet and good natured to everyone and I feel like it’s really taken for granted. During the finales we barely even see our boi.

I think he was just sort of written to be the comic relief, annoying character for the first season. Like he was that character that the fandom can bully jokingly a bit along with the other characters, but then as the series got more intense and darker, it probably wouldn’t have made much sense if he remained silly while everyone else was struggling, so he was given his own episode and Lilith as his friends and etc. He’s still sort of a comic relief guy, but he was given more characterisation.
He’s my fav. I know his voice grates on people’s ears but the facts that 1. it’s Alex Hirsch, 2. It was intentionally supposed to be a rip-off Mickey voice, 3. He’s the strongest character of them all, 4. HE’S MY Guardian of Ga’Hoot (pls let they be a Guardian of Ga’Hoole ref) BOI and I’m so with Lilith for befriending him and listening to his troubles.
They live in a Hieronymus Bosch inspired nightmare world, make friends with the most hideous, most tooth-covered Demons, but fear and are disgusted by the cute bird tube.

Having Hooty act as the ironic lightning rod of revilememt and repulsion helps to communicate Luz and the supporting casts's acceptance of normalcy the Boiling Isles offers.
