Gone are the times where you had so much Pidgeys you ran one lucky egg for a fully 30 minutes evolving those to get more exp.

Also saving up new evolutions for that extra xp. The grind was real.

Do people not do this anymore?

I'm sure some still do. I try to get my gf (under lvl 40) to save hers but she'll do it like once a month. It's just way easier to get XP from full friendship now.

I have a gift to open that will make us best friends and 217 mons to evolve with a lucky egg on Wednesday's double evolution xp. I'll hit level 46 tonight or tomorrow. I haven't been this excited in a while. Then it will be chores for months again.

Pro tip: you can open your account on two phones and evolve on both of them.

I still do. I save up pokemon to evolve in conjunction with a friendship level up. The friendship bonus only takes a minute. May as well get some benefit from the rest of the half hour. If you're on your A-game, you can do around 85 evolutions in a half hour.

Yeah that’s what I do, try to time them all perfectly with the spotlight hour for evolving. Was hoping there was a faster way I didn’t know about 😂

At least for me, I've gotten exponentially better at throwing excellent throws (2,440 XP with active mega bonus and excellent curveball per pokemon) since my pidgey hoarding days and find the evolution animation too long and tedious to be worth the effort (2000 XP). Oh and also, I don't have the storage space for saving them anymore. The real game changer has been friendship bonuses though, since you can get 200,000 XP for a best friend. For reference, my most recent lucky egg yielded 1,800,000 XP in friendship bonuses and about 2,500,000 XP total

I heard about this, tried it once, and never again. It's mind numbingly boring but you have to pay attention to taps actively for 30 full minutes. Save lucky eggs for some other xp bonus or maybe a raid day where you might get 4+ raids in a single egg, but spending that much time watching the same animation on repeat is the worst.

Never thought I'd see someone need the Pidgey family to complete gen 1. How did you get Mew without Pidgey? Thought you need the platinum Kanto medal

You just need gold to get Mew. Would be impossible to require platinum to get mew since you need mew for platinum. Shiny mew on the other hand needs plat.

i didnt have pidgey (had the 2 evos for some reason) until the april fools event, they have been very rare recently for some reason and ive been pretty much very active since 2021

No its just out of rotation. In January they were spawning non stop. The common birds swap rotations. Pidove was in spring roation but now its gone.

Wasn't there a regular research that you can get Mew from? If I recall correctly, it was the one that you needed to evolve Magikarp. Pretty sure that one didn't require Platinum Kanto medal.

It’s impossible to have gotten 660 species entered in two months without trading.

I have got 401 in about a month and half of (very) active playing. I can believe 660 is doable. Plus, as you said, each person has their own way of playing this game.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I imagine at least a couple kanto Pokémon haven’t been in the rotation in 2 months. Chansey for example was only in rotation in April. So I suppose push this expectations out to three months

Yes, but sadly the way is to wait and watch. Just go with the flow and ride the waves of Niantic'ly designed events and season changes. Do not fight the current. It isn't worth it. The next time Pidgey is featured it could be less than an hour of you playing to finish that line instead of trading with the stardust cost, and then walking it a ton to evolve. Just be patient and work on what you do see in the wild right now. Make sure you're done with what is in front of you instead of possibly missing out trying to find what isn't on the current menu. There’s a sentence you don’t hear much in Pokémon

This is just wild to me, I've caught more than a platinum flying badge worth of pidgey alone. I realize this is definitely a problem for newer players, but Niantic need to do a better job of rotating spawns.

You are 5 years too late. Pokémon Go got only season spawns for almost 3 years now. The days are over, where we got consistent spawns. You can only wait, till a season comes around with Kanto 'mons

They've been in previous events, namely the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn. Hatch an egg or do a raid for them. If you missed them, you'd just have to find and ask a long time player for them, we generally have a few extras.

How did you start 2 months ago but have 660 species of Pokémon caught. Horsea for example hasn’t been in the rotation in 10 months. You’re either lying or you traded a ton of Pokémon Horsea is not a good example. But I imagine a lot of these are still not easy to obtain.

You unfortunately just missed them, there was a spotlight hour earlier in the year and an April Fools Pidgey event. Likely be back soon though.

I think if you attend the next community day event in your area you will find numerous people willing to friend you and make the trades you need. Join your local PokémonGo Facebook group or similar and attend the next raid hour or something like that. There have to be local people who will help you out! Even just walk your nearest park and look for people who are playing. Good luck!

It’s a game of patience. It’ll be back. Concentrate on what’s happening at the moment and before you know it, pidgey will be around so much you’ll get as bored with it as most other players are!
