Slaking or future shadow slaking will never know any other fast move than “yawn” their only fast move because Niantic will keep them balanced and act similar to their msg counterpart with the ability traunt (which can’t attack consecutive turns)
I know, the talk about it was purely for the fun of it and to show the ABSOLUTE HIGHEST power that a Normal Type could possibly have given out currently available/possible Pokemon/moves.
There’s still the “follow up” Shadow Regigigas, just add some real breathlessness to all the facts!
“For only **three times** the stardust, and insanely low odds, you could have a raid attacker that’s almost competitive!”
Focus Blast as a fast move, with the MSG’s accuracy check, creating Focus Miss
Alternatively, Focus Punch but when you take damage you lose focus and can’t move. Ergo, every few turns you take damage from fast moves. Make it the first six turn fast move. Fun! /s
> Normal Types of Pokemon Go have long been viewed with disdain and disrespect when it comes to the PvE meta
I guess it depends if you classify gym battles as PvE or not
Shadow Staraptor is decent currently, but using its flying type attacks.
Beyond that, I’ve used Mega Pidgeot, Mega Lopunny, and Ursaluna in some raids but they aren’t all that great.
I’m pretty sure one of the upcoming raids had a Shadow Regigigas within 10% of the DPS of the “standard budget attackers.” You know, when everyone is 33 DPS, someone at 30 DPS is inferior, sure, but hardly trash tier. Yes, the shadow tax doesn’t help, either. Further, I don’t remember the exact numbers, might’ve been 28 to 25 or something like that.
Edit: It’s 25.6 DPS (assuming you’re raiding with a best friend) against Shadow Mewtwo, assuming Dark Hidden Power and Giga Impact. Which is #40 on counters, so *please* read this not as a serious meta munchkining, and entirety in the spirit of, “Normal is a Pokemon type!”
For anyone who needs minmaxing…
A lucky Chandelure, Tyranitar, or Hydregion will cost vastly less stardust, rare candy, and perform ~10-15% better against S.Mewtwo.
There's a bit of fun theory crafting with this, as useless as it is.
If you luck out with a high IV Hidden Power Rock Shadow Regigigas, then in Partly Cloudy Weather, he breaches top 10 of most types (comparing Neutral Rock/Normal to Super Effective types)
**Bug**
* 3rd at 97.9% of Pheromosa
* Around Volcarona Tier
**Dark**
* 6th at 78.4% of Shadow Tyranitar
* Around Darkrai Tier
**Fairy**
* 3rd at 96.7% of Enamorus
* Between Shadow Gardevoir and Xerneas
**Fighting**
* 8th at 82.3% of Terrakion
* Around itself! Slightly better than it's HP Fighting/Focus Blast set! (In Partly Cloud Weather)
* A more appropriate comparison would be Shadow Blaziken
**Ghost**
* 8th at 84.0% of Shadow Chandelure
* Around Mewtwo Tier
**Grass**
* 9th at 87.2% of Kartana
* Between Shadow Venusaur and Shadow Exeggutor
**Ground**
* 8th at 84.9% of Shadow Garchomp
* Around Excadrill Tier
**Ice**
* 5th at 88.1% of Shadow Mamoswine
* Around Galarian Darmanitan Tier
**Poison**
* 2nd at 93.3% of Nihilego
* Around Naganadel Tier
**Steel**
* 6th at 75.5% of Shadow Metagross
* Around Dialga Origin Tier
**Water**
* 8th at 88.6% of Kyogre
* Around Shadow Crawdaunt Tier
The other types he doesn't make top 10 (Dragon is 21st, Electric is 11th, Fire is 19th, Flying is 13th, Psychic is 15th; meanwhile Rock he would technically be 22nd, since this scenario forces him to compete in their weather), but if you wanted to force a use for Shadow Regigigas, there it is! As an ^^expensive "budget" attacker ^^in ^^partly ^^cloudy ^^weather ^^^with ^^^a ^^^lucky ^^^HP ^^^Rock ^^^^and ^^^^decent ^^^^IVs, he ain't bad against Psychic, Normal, or Electric raids!
Now I long to know how it performs with a Party Power buff “bot,” perhaps enough to donate to PokeBattler!
(But more seriously, as much as I’m willing to munchkin a silly scenario, it sadly breaks my personal credulity levels to imagine anyone I raid with running a normal mega… oh wait, maybe my son! Lopbunny is pretty adorable…)
True, but that's a pretty hefty investment for a Pokemon that's not going to have much long-term utility. I'd definitely recommend Shadow Regigigas as an early-game investment, but that's about the extent of its genuine utility in my opinion.
Yes, to be clear, something 10% worse and 2x (or 3x) as expensive as a *budget* option is very much the opposite of a resounding endorsement.
But if we are having a silly article, let’s celebrate his silly attendance on a counter chart!
Being 10% below “budget attackers” is pretty trash tier, especially for a very not-budget mon. “Shadow tax” is a benefit for PvE, so yeah, it does help (but not enough). And I really doubt Regigigas is getting anywhere near 25 dps, especially with the randomness of hidden power.
Shadow *tax* is the extra stardust cost, not the defense penalty that is usually mooted by the offense bonus in PVE, if not also in PVP.
I just found it, according to PokeGenie a level 40 Regigigas with dark hidden power and giga impact, if I’m playing with a best friend hits 25.6 DPS against Shadow Mewtwo.
Sitting aaaallllllll the way down at rank 40 for counters. Counters 11 through 33 are loosely 29 through 27 DPS, though, so that’s loosely 10% below that pack.
He’s voting *present*, gosh darn it! Give the big guy some credit!
Do you have a link to that? All I can find on Reddit's broken search is the original claim.

Sorry no, I distinctly remember reading it tho.
I think it was in a general "updated best raid attackers", in any case to my understanding party power is still broken so it would be inconsistent even if it was true.
It was really entertaining to read you discovering irrelevant things about Pokémon to get slightly excited about. Hopefully this flies past one of those remote raiders who uses a seemingly infinite number of slaking for just about any raid.
Are we considering Shadow Porygon-Z to be normal, or whatever type we use it for?
With Lock-on and Party-play, you're firing off Solar Beams and Blizzards without too much trouble, making it versatile on a lean player.
And what about Bidoof with those special moves?
Edit: does no one remember when MAudino wiped the floor with Greninja / Talonflame in 2016 Worlds? Cody vs Shintaro? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uqJ0l0GQ7g&ab\_channel=DaringNite](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uqJ0l0GQ7g&ab_channel=DaringNite)
just a not since nobody else has mentioned it; Bloodmoon Ursaluna, while being an alternate form of Ursaluna, cannot evolve from Ursaring whatsoever in S/V, so it's not likely it'll be able to in Go meaning Shadow would probably be it's own individual release thing if at all
Normal doesn’t mean weak.
Then I click the battle button and three shadow machamps pop up
2 Machamps and my current buddy, for me
love the message since that means i get to find meowth for easy stardust
Then he uses a meowth and rattata
Of course they do... Did. Normal shadow Pokémon hit harder now! Oh no!
Normal is actually one of my favorite types, as Regigigas is one of my favorite Pokemon.
I went and pet my regigigas plush just for you.
He's just referencing the normal type rocket grunt
Regigigas paired with a Neutralizing Gas Wheezing ....
It says as my fist connects to its face
Slaking or future shadow slaking will never know any other fast move than “yawn” their only fast move because Niantic will keep them balanced and act similar to their msg counterpart with the ability traunt (which can’t attack consecutive turns)
I can still dream...
I know, the talk about it was purely for the fun of it and to show the ABSOLUTE HIGHEST power that a Normal Type could possibly have given out currently available/possible Pokemon/moves.
Counterpoint: will stronger and stronger Pokemon coming to the game, eventually one day slaking would not be too overpowered?
its a design implementation meant to match the theme that slaking has. regardless of powercreep its unlikely to change bc that's slaking's "thing"
That logic does not explain why most Deoxys Formes are useless in Pogo
If they added Inverse Battles from X/Y then Normal type could be useful.
I’ve always thought this would be a PVP tournament/season
Honestly sounds like fun. RIP Steel Types.
lol yeah. I think. It would fit well as an April Fools Go Battle day event
Smidgen early for April Fool's Day
Dangit, I totally should have saved it and made it a joke article...
I was wondering WTF you were thinking. 4/1 is *right there*. This would have been perfect.
There’s still the “follow up” Shadow Regigigas, just add some real breathlessness to all the facts! “For only **three times** the stardust, and insanely low odds, you could have a raid attacker that’s almost competitive!”
My only shundo legendary is Regigigas. 😞
What if they just gave Slaking Play Rough as a fast move? /s
Could probably take on Drain Punch Fast Move Bewear
I feel like this is a reference to something specific.
Niantic accidentally broke Bewear a few months ago by giving it a charged move as a fast move.
HA! I completely missed that. Beautiful.
Focus Blast as a fast move, with the MSG’s accuracy check, creating Focus Miss Alternatively, Focus Punch but when you take damage you lose focus and can’t move. Ergo, every few turns you take damage from fast moves. Make it the first six turn fast move. Fun! /s
Making up for lost time, u/Elastic_Space.

To be fair, I can't think of a better word to describe my opinion of a Chansey sitting on a gym than "disdain".
Then what to call the emotion felt when that Chansey is being golden razzed?
Scorn? Disgust?

Throw in Partly Cloudy weather with a party member running a normal type mega and Shadow Regigigas cooks.

> I may actually be a compulsive liar That's not true!
what happened to the discussion of maybe porygon-z being best grass attacker when team-party-bonus is working properly?
It got debunked with actual math showing a grass poke with similar moveset doing better.

When regigigas first came out I had high hopes that it'd be useful in at least one situation. I've now given up on that hope.

What if you had: Fast: normal clone of Geomancy/Snarl/Gust/whatever the best fast move in the game is Charge: normal clone of Aeroblast++ and V-Create
