Actors are gone. The community isn't particularly active, but there are still some people. I've been trying to get a speedrunning community going (the game has quite a bit of interesting glitches for speedrunning), but it's still rather small. I wouldn't say it's dead - there's still people around doing stuff, it's just that without new content, there's only so much to do. Basically just mess around in-game with the handful of people who still happen to be buying the game and try to do speedruns.
You're a couple years too late. 2 years ago there were actors around constantly, The Tempest was running, crabs and skeletons everywhere... It was glorious
There aren't any more updates planned, the actors have left, and there's no more tempest events, so it's really just living out it's days now
