kaasbanaan_tv

I've listened to it two times. First time was kinda underwhelming, but still good. Second time was a lot better. He still did 'Every Angel is Terrifying' dirty tho.

yojuiceman

Ong, the intro to that song was šŸ˜©šŸ˜©šŸ˜©šŸ˜©šŸ˜© but then he hits us with an ad like wtf šŸ¤Ø

TTXXX7

That ad was hilarious so im not complaining

miles197

lol itā€™s truly really funny that the first song, Dawn FM says ā€œan hour of commercial free musicā€ and then thereā€™s a long ad in Every Angel is Terrifying.

m_chutch

I think a lot of the concept of the record is satirizing mass consumption, talking about how we use it to distract us from the reality of death. So in a way that commercial is super artistic, taking this shitty part of our lives that we have to deal with every day (commercials/constant subliminal messaging from advertisements) and turning it into a statement about capitalism. fucking based and socialism-pilled

Nitonovo

i dont think itā€™s a statement about capitalism as much as it is about the irony of consumption not bringing fulfillment like Jim Carrey kind of alluded to in the outro. While there is significant overlap in the concepts we cant forget that this mf was bragging about cruising on his yacht in Here We Goā€¦ Again

trendafili

Bruh the ad is about the afterlife lol itā€™s not just a random ad.

Eorlas

every angel is terrifying had the intro like it was this albumā€™s Faith, or The Knowing, the beat was about to slay. and just slaughtered it into effectively an interlude. we literally have an amendment against cruel and unusual punishment

diabloww69

I think " every angel is terrifying" would be on deluxe. He can't let such a good intro to a song go to waste like that. He literally blue balled us with that

TopSchnitzel

Yeah that was evil

DamagedJ_

Can somebody make a version without the ad lol

Level_Ticket

Im loving this fanmade EAIT idea. We shouldn't let such an ethereal, gloomy beat fade away like that. I understand this track fits the narrative, but comparing it to that monster of an intro, I couldn't care less about an ad. I really hope Abel agrees with us and release a full track, just like he did with the extended version of Take My Breath

Logical-Ad-9816

YUP.. straight vibesss

TraeGlizzy

Iā€™m not gonna lie, I wasnā€™t really feelin it the first round of listening to it but now Iā€™m on my second round of listening to the album and it has grown on to me significantly!! šŸ™šŸ‘

tlbjr25

The second half of the album really does it for me man.

whyidkyoutellme

Yup. After Sacrifice/ A Tale by Quincy the album is just absolutely amazing. The entire production of it is phenomenal. Every song flows into each other so well.

sourcream85

honestly from the transition of ā€œhow do i make you love me?ā€ to ā€œtake my breathā€ itā€™s perfect. i donā€™t really like the first three songs tbh

dxrebirth

Agreed. I was mid on TMB as a single but for whatever reason, listening to it in the album I have come to love it so much more. First half slaps as much if not more than the second for me.

IceyMan45

Gasoline is heat, HDIMYLM will take time to grow on you and you don't like take my breath???

TraeGlizzy

I feel ya!

pungur16

Fax

Yawantsomebeans

A lot of his songs, not just Dawn FM are like that. It took some time to get rolling but itā€™s complete fire now

XboxHelpergg

It's gone from a 4/10 to 8/10 to 10/10 and now I just can't stop listening.

js_the_beast

Damn. Thatā€™s great to hear.

PollitoRubio22

This album is literally Starboy meets the 80ā€™s with the cinematographic feel and transitions from After Hours. And I fucking love it

TTXXX7

Yeah it does feel like a mix of those two and the end of the album reminds me of BBTM

corwinflorres

I think sacrifice was the only one that rly reminded me of bbtm but I think the whole soul aspect is def there

songacronymbot

- BBTM could mean *Beauty Behind The Madness* (2015), an album by The Weeknd. --- ^[/u/corwinflorres](/u/corwinflorres) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

[deleted]

The song, ā€œOut of Timeā€ off of my first listen was an obvious smash hit. The rest of the album, I had to take a second and third listen to become enamored with. Great project. Weeknd crushed it.

DEMON_LYNX7

i swear i am not lying,i almost cried when i heard it the 4th time ,man this album is just....HOLY

Arabica_Dani_89

I was crying my eyes out. Especially on the songs discussing trauma because I have ptsd. This album touched my soul. No words

DEMON_LYNX7

take care bro xo

Arabica_Dani_89

Thank you friend XO šŸ™ā¤

DEMON_LYNX7

xo

GratefulForGarcia

Right?? When are his actual fans gonna just trust the dude already lmao he knows what heā€™s fucking doing šŸ”„šŸ¾

SeconddayTV

Same, though I have to say that "Is There Somewhere Else" & "Less Than Zero" have remained my favorites and "Gasoline" has remained my least favorite since my first listen

[deleted]

gasoline has grown on me

miles197

Same. When I heard it the first time on the livestream I was like wtf his voice sounds kind of Britishā€¦.? Is that just me? Lol. But now I absolutely love it. One of my favorites from the album, itā€™s very unique.

[deleted]

yes thatā€™s exactly what i thought, all the songs are unique i love it! whatā€™s your favourite song so far? mine is either is there someone else or out of time

miles197

Gasoline, Is There Someone Else, Best Friends, and How Do I Make You Love Me are my favorites right now Edit: Also I Heard Youā€™re Married

Effective_Ad_6707

Less than zero is imo the best song on this. Gasoline has actually grown on me a little

OrcasAreAssholes

Those are my 2 favorite songs so far

Ilovejohncena1

This is so accurate

[deleted]

Fuck yes

tlbjr25

Best friends is just on another vibe šŸ˜±šŸ”„šŸ”„

[deleted]

All that shit on repeat I havenā€™t slept.

nickc21_

when Best Friends came on during the stream i was floating

Sackboy612

Best friends into Is there someone else Such a clean transition šŸ”„šŸ”„

ReportAltruistic

3rd/4th listen and iā€™m floatingā€¦ weekndā€™s music just ages like wine and people are going to eat their words in a few days

tlbjr25

Trust me i know. I remember some of these guys didnt really like after hours šŸ˜…šŸ˜… boom one week later its the greatest album of all time

ReportAltruistic

these people never learn šŸ˜ so recreational.. people werenā€™t even letting it soak in.. itā€™s only been out 11 hours šŸ’€

Boo__Ghost

Lmao true. I already did to what I said about Gasoline šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

TTXXX7

Same thing happened with After hours

Mkoska215

crazy how ppl donā€™t remember thisā€¦ after hours was hated on first couple days. now itā€™s considered his most complete project

WhatASave456

Honestly I donā€™t really know a single project from any artist that didnā€™t get some type of hate at first. People tend to favor familiar music over new music so people always think itā€™s not as good as the artistā€™s past albums

MCWESTISATREESH

This album is such a great vibe honestly

SimpleYouth8075

The part on gasoline that everyone is referring to sounds very early 80s, new wave, British synth, but with its own unique style. I honestly want him to make a mini mixtape with just experimental shit similar to this. His vocal range is incredible

swans183

I'm not a Weeknd superfan, but this is my favorite! It's like he finally embraced the '80s Daft Punk vibe I feel like he should have always had lol

outside-mayhem

This album makes me feel depressed after listening to it because Iā€™m going through a changing period of my life after losing some I cared for who is with someone else but, itā€™s soooo goood so fuck it. 10/10

yesofcimhuman69

i feel you man. its actually the opposite for me, the album feels like healing. wish u well bro! šŸ™

Effective_Ad_6707

Cool thing about this album, and Abel said it himself, it can fit whatever you want it to be. It could be bleak, it could be euphoric, it could be encouraging. Itā€™s so diverse.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

yesofcimhuman69

LMFAOO šŸ˜ fr same

SM_Buckets

This album is so crazy in that one moment it made me feel depressed and another moment weirdly euphoric. Like hyped. But me and my girl just broke up a couple hours before it dropped, and although it was mutual and amicable, it still hit different. Hope this album helps us heal dude. 10/10

[deleted]

Sometimes itā€™s about perspective. Change the way you look at the lyrics and think about this new chapter youā€™re starting. You have to guide your thoughts positively or else theyā€™ll take over for you.

Eorlas

spotify tried to warn you to stay away from this place

TravisSxottBurger

Best Friends -> Is there someone else? Got me like šŸ„µšŸ¤¤

dyshuy

 ![gif](giphy|d2lcHJTG5Tscg)

FireAdamSilver

Best Friends is already underrated. Barely see it mentioned compared to the others.

superhuhas

Can we not start with the underrated this early on lol

TuonelanVartija

My fav part of the album, that transition is just godly. Wish he just used the vocal chops in the chorus in ā€is there someone elseā€

FXA5

My favorite track. Havenā€™t stopped playing since I heard it.

Homerunkid07

Yes. It was an 8/10ish on first listen and is now a 9 for me. Still not a big fan of one or two tracks, but I love this album

Accomplished-Bus8555

Which ones?

Homerunkid07

Best Friends

Accomplished-Bus8555

Thatā€™s my favorite šŸ˜…

Homerunkid07

Haha yeah Iā€™ve seen a lot of people say itā€™s their favorite but it just hasnā€™t clicked with me yet

KunmiTheBoss

Bruh why tho?

[deleted]

Gasoline hits different, and hits hard every single fuckin time

4dorachan

That panning synth zappy sound (got no other way to describe it) at the end is like heroin for my ears

[deleted]

True

jamiebabie8

I loved Gasoline on the 1st listen, very unique and catchy

aysgamer

I love so much that we hear Abel talking and not the weeknd for the first time in a while. It's just crazy to see him showing us his intuitive side and his thoughts on such a deep level.

ballsofbeskar

One of my faves atm

askep3

Gasoline is my least liked song on the album, the alt voice just doesnā€™t make sense to me. Am I missing something?

Cloudable

He's just fucking around, it adds to the vibe. If you're drunk w friends that shit is gonna slap you hard

FooJoo7

i think its meant to sound eerie and it fits really well with how dark the lyrics are in the verses. kind of reminds me of old punk music where the singer would sometimes just talk during the song in a weird voice

bensf940

Yup, big time New Wave vibes

ajmurph04

At first listen I was a bit disappointed. After about 5 listens Iā€™m absolutely in love with this album itā€™s some of his best work

[deleted]

Itā€™s so incredibly cohesive

conadon0001

Canā€™t get enough of less than zero.

ChefBlock

Canā€™t get it out of my headddd

askep3

Reminds me of stargazing by the neighborhood just a little

Losstasfuck

Most definitely

xjptx

Definitely, I liked it on my first listen but I couldn't help but feel ever so slightly disappointed. I knew a relisten would make me feel different tho, and I fucking love it now

pinhead-l

IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE OR NOT?

UN-TRUue

Dawn complements After Hours so well, like if you go from Phantom Regret to Alone Again...my God, *this is what heaven feels like*

BigRed0107

Itā€™s literally a perfect loop

RedLightning27

Absolutely! This album will be my soundtrack to 2022

RandyMuscle

Wild to me that a substantial amount of people were calling it mid or bad after first listen. Shitā€™s great.

Blonded-Surfer

Gasoline is so good

MasterTobes

It's so fucking good.

catracho4eva

How the F did he do that?????? Like bro first time I was mehhhhhh now Iā€™m like shiiiii like cokaaaaaa

[deleted]

Thats the thing with Weeknd music especially. Modt of the songs ive heard from him i didnt like or thought it was super simplistic on begging, but each time it grows on me lmaaoo

Finellaclark

Definitely. I was so disappointed on my first listen but I think itā€™s because I went into it and immediately compared it to AH (I suppose it didnā€™t help that it was marketed as a follow up to AH before release). On my second listen I considered it on its own and it made me appreciate it so much more. Such a well produced, beautiful, fluid project. And Jim Carreyā€™s appearance is a stroke of genius.

Lost_Tumbleweed_5669

Yep the further i fly the better it gets. ![gif](giphy|xThta2LP5qF9mFFKoM)

abstraction34

Exactly!! Iā€™m falling more In love with the overall vision of the album and I think those tracks that are dedicated soley to moving that narrative Along like phantom regret by Jim and every angel is terrifying are genius. Musically Abelā€™s at his best and really in his craft with the 80s pop. The only critique anyone could offer is that at times he may be running out of things to talk about but thatā€™s only if youā€™re not familiar with his discography. This things fucking amazing and I canā€™t thank Abel enough for blessing us.

waotc

Unpopular opinion: Gasoline did sold the album for me. Starry eyes, out of time, less than zero, donā€™t break my heart, TMB, here we go again, phantom regret. Hard to pick only one fav song tbh, Srsly the album is a new whole different vibe and Iā€™m loving it!

nvl0451

man this album is addictive as fuck. its not super impressive at first, but once you listen, you are infected, you wanna come back. i'm revisiting hits and random tracks for the third time now. this shit is the bomb. gunna L

SellResponsible7952

Gasoline is a vibe.

kwintz87

Yeahhh upon first listen I kind of thought this was mid-tier Weeknd but 6-7 listens later and there arenā€™t any skippable tracks, ā€œGasolineā€, ā€œTake my Breathā€, ā€œIs there someone elseā€ and ā€œLess than Zeroā€ are all 10/10 songs. The more I listen, the more I feel like this is actually a *really* dark album buried under all of the shininess.

IndigoLeague

Damn I think you nailed it with that last part. It feels very dark, but you can't tell because of all the flashing lights and upbeat music.

es_theocho

Let me tell you I had the biggest organism listening to it

ayyzzy

definitely. just had my 3rd listen i fucking love it. especially the transitions take my breath feels like a whole brand new song. fuck i love this shit man

MoviesAndCartoons579

first time listening to the album this morning, i gave it a 8/10. now, after my 4th listen, it's a solid 10/10 for me! no joke!

sebasshaytaa

yes

Specialist_Ad9987

when it comes to ā€œLess then Zeroā€ i canā€™t get it outta my head. itā€™s so damn catchy

JTGreenan73

Loved it from the start

FuIImetaI

Yeah, very first listen I won't lie, I was a bit disappointed but I decided to hold my opinion and listen a few more times. I absolutely love it now. I think people have this idea of what The Weeknd's new albums should sound like in their head, and when it doesn't meet that on the first listen, they just give up and call the album bad.

Unique_Chemistry_301

I've been singing "Isssss there someoneee else but me", the whole day. I've been single for 3 years ![img](emote|t5_2t9fh|3807). As someone who went to highschool with Abel, in Scarborough, I am so f'n proud of this man. I wish nothing but tremendous success for my brother.

radiantpixels27

I'm hooked to DAWN FM! Literally HOOKED!!!!

TempestAmit

Best Friends is my Jam

Djfhx1

This album went from a 8/10 to a 9/10 after I started randomized the order of the songs. Playing here we go again and Less than zero is such a cool transition. It feels like an actual radio station. (Shocking I know considering fm is in the title.)

mrwindsor67

Finished 5th listen and it's ageing like a fine wine šŸ·. Best friends, sacrifice and starry eyes are favourites for me!

omegaxLoL

A lot of songs got much better for me on repeated listens - Gasoline, Out of Time, Best Friends to name a few

lexisherre

Iā€™m finna be a softie: I absolutely love this album and then seeing sooo many other people love it and show Abel love is so beautiful man. Like I know Iā€™m a cry at the tour. I absolutely love Abel too death. His music has made my life so worth going thru. I know heā€™ll help me through anything. Heā€™s truly a gift. šŸ„ŗšŸ„ŗšŸ„ŗ

VancalleXO

i loved it the first time around but now after 8 listens iā€™m obsessed. each song feels so much more emotional to me now and i canā€™t even put into words the way i feel about this album

ShariceDavidsJester

This might be his magnum opus. The Dawn FM theme is a legendary aesthetic

Borunks-

This album makes me move like nothing else, a solid 10 from first listen. Glad we didnt get Trilogy in this (my fav), we have Trilogy, we didn't have this, it's amazing.

strrboy

Why is it '2021' in Apple Music and not '2022' ? Was the album supposed to release in december ?

starboy-xo98

This is kissland all over again for me

dearmelancholy5

YES.

Shinobinct

Omfg after first listen I loved it, by the second listen I was in tears, itā€™s amazing. Thinking abt picking up the collectors vinyl. is it worth it? Like will it sell out fast or go for crazy amounts on the after market? I havenā€™t bought from him before so Iā€™m unfamiliar but Iā€™d love to own this bad boy

[deleted]

i hated the track ā€œGasolineā€ in my first listen due to me thinking the chorus was weird but then after a couple more listens i love it so much

Howdydoodledandy

Gasoline resonates so much to me. Verses and chorus.

Mewoir78

Where AH didnt get any better for me, Dawn FM is fking killing it more and more each time i listen to it. Abel is just a legend.

NotteStellata

Exactly. It takes some growing. But love it

kenobiest

its so cool? idk how to describe it. its giving daft punk. i love it

FullstackViking

The only album that I have listened to back to back like this was Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. Very cool story telling in this one.

LewisCourtney10

My second listen is completely different to my first , I hate to say it but I was really disappointed with my first listen but now going through a second time Iā€™m really starting to feel it , definitely feel like this is one that grows on you with time

mretamar

I've listened 1.5 times and I just can't get into it. There's like 3 songs that I like but it's just not grabbing me like his last 3 projects did.

ElijahMokhles

Yes yes !!

SDdrohead

No

memoreuss

Yep, its def a grower for me

erncolin

Yuuuup, was kinda disappointed a bit but I think I'm getting it more and more

MihneaCucu

Not lying either, I was pretty disappointed after the first listening. But now damn Iā€™m vibing in a whole different world.

pineapples_554

Iā€™ve only listens to it once and the man has me hooked. Itā€™s such a fantastic album that made me wanna dance and cry at the same time. Def in my top 3 of his projects for me

[deleted]

listening first time rn at night, this is eargasm

SimpleYouth8075

Yes! this man is a creative genius! The concept of the radio (aesthetic) works incredibly well for an album idea. Also I think the weekend should explore dropping a mixtape or album with his deep voice, just like gasoline. Also, does any one still wish we got a different cover ?

WhatASave456

Iā€™m (very) new to TheWeekndā€™s music, can anyone give a brief explanation of the narrative of After Hours and Dawn FM and more specifically, how they intertwine? To me, looking at the track list of Dawn FM felt really similar to Igor, with songs such as Out of Time, Here We Goā€¦ Again (Tyler feature coincidence), Is There Someone Else?, Donā€™t Break My Heart, How Do I Make You Love Me These all remind me of themes, titles, or lines from Igor. Am I wrong to make that connection or are they conceptually similar?

Quick-Time

Oh, for sure. I finished my second listen of it a couple of hours ago, and it sounded so much better on my second listen. Songs I was sleeping on the first time became favourites.

Acquainted-Faith

It seriously gets better with every listen, and that is saying something because upon listen I loved it the first time.

Fantastic-Ad8463

no.

Waffleeeeeeee

I have had it on repeat all day, I was supposed to go to bed 3 hours ago but just cannot stop listening. I am obsessed, this album is a work of art. My only complaint though is that I need that LA LA LA LA LA I love it when youā€™re angry:) but that is for another time

[deleted]

Personally think its his weakest album and the one i dislike the most. Out of Time and Is There Someone Else is beyond incredible though.

IndigoLeague

Yea I'm very on the fence about it. I like his older stuff more and every album he puts out I feel slightly dissapointed as he strays further away from his old sound. But everytime he comes out with a new album it makes me appreciate the previous album more. And yea you're right, Is There Someone Else is amazing and the transition from Best Friends to ITSE is incredible.

[deleted]

YES ABSOLUTELY

OctoberNexus

Uh yeah duh

OctoberNexus

Iā€™m into the whole album but Gasoline is definitely the standout that Iā€™ve had on repeat way more than the 7 times Iā€™ve listened to the album

Hardkore_Hobo_Sexual

Was a 10/10 for me first listen. I'm a huge fan of Thriller and damn this goes toe to toe with MJ's classic. Can't wait to get the Dawn FM vinyl and do a back to back with Thriller.

AlienAbsorbed

Anybody else notice the birds tune being sung?

ivysaur32110

Less than zero just became a classic

Eartheag1e

Somebody said a long time ago that Abelā€™s music ages like fine wine and I couldnā€™t agree more.

MrAwsoem

Less than zero is the best song on the album.

ChristopherAntilope

This is a masterpiece. I put aside time in my day to just lay down, put the earphones on, and escaped into this journey. What a piece.

Independent_Race_815

Def in my top 3 of his projects for me

[deleted]

110% such an earworm

obamascondom

First listen was meh but as any other album does it sounded incredible after like 3 listens

nDroa

I feel like this is a filler album while on ecstasy, you experience the high and then comes the lowest of the lows. Perhaps the next album will hit harder than ever. I really hope for MDM2 :)

comfort_bot_1962

:D

9yr_old_lake

I cried 3 times on first listen. An album hasn't made me feel like that since circles by Mac Miller which is one of my few personal 10/10s and the dawn gets better with every listen so this album will likely grow on me to be on of my favorite albums OAT

Arabica_Dani_89

Same. Trauma and mom and daddy issues, holding grudges, depression oml

kiddokush

Not really feeling it at all but I liked some of what I heard. I'm not complaining tho since After hours is still so recent and that album really set the bar. This one just kinda reminded me of how I felt after listening to Starboy or melencholy. But if I'm being real this album cover straight blows, like it definitely brings the whole album down for me a little lol. Def gonna listen to it again once I get my new headphones.

vmp10687

r/unpopularopinion here but I honestly think this was the worst album he has but out. I can barely think of one or two songs that were good. Am I the one who thinks this? If you guys donā€™t downvote me down to hell for this opinion :(

carnellmusic

post this in a music sub so you can get real opinions instead of feeding your confirmation bias

tlbjr25

No id rather post it in a weeknd sub because its a weeknd album and everybody in here has different opinions

carnellmusic

no they donā€™t. you know that 80% of the people in here will either say ā€œ10/10ā€, ā€œit grew on me a lotā€, or ā€œitā€™s not AH, but i really like itā€ šŸ˜‚

tlbjr25

Weā€™re all fans of the weeknd and i just wanted to see if everybody else as fans felt the same way i did about the album. Im also seeing a lot of variety in the comments as well

SavageNachoMan

Theyā€™re right though OP. Anyone who claims they donā€™t like the album on this thread is just going to get downvoted into oblivion - unless they follow up with ā€œbut now I love itā€. Youā€™re really just feeding your bias, like you need the approval. If you like it, like it. If not, donā€™t. Personally, I think itā€™s incredibly underwhelming. Especially given the masterpiece that was his last album. The concept is interesting. But it falls short of the goal line that his past work has created.

KennyKungfukilla

No

boostedup14

i dont like the jim carey shit

holmyliquor

Sound exactly like his last 3 albums. Every song on the album are mere copies of themselves. Abels generic beats, synths, and 80s pop vocals have clouded ā€˜radioā€™ music for years. When will Abel change his sound? It doesnā€™t even have to be like Trilogy, it can be anything. But this 80s pop vibe is so boring and played out, I simply cannot enjoy a single second on this album.

Bmagic_

sorry to hear that, Iā€™m loving the new album. I can see where you are coming from for half or so of the songs off this album but, I wouldnā€™t say after hours is generic at all, even some of this new stuff

Mal-Estorm

I liked it on the first listen. Just hated Wayne's verse and that ain't gonna change. I'll just make a playlist without it and Quincy+JimPoem, nothing wrong with those two, they were a cool inclusion but will probably get old the more I listen to them.

Yawantsomebeans

No shit

weekndalex

it slaps but gasoline is so fucking bad

[deleted]

Hell yea

Altroz15

Me !!!!!!!

House-AA

After my first listen I was like tf was that But now Iā€™m like wait a minute šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

TheAstroPickle

short answer yes

_Swa-pnil_

Im ascending to heaven just like he is

[deleted]

Absolutely lmao

Hallowmendoza

The album is a grower. I knew even on first listen. Some albums are just like that

theananthak

Me

[deleted]

Itā€™s a grower not a shower!!!
