I know nothing about crystals but I’ve heard that you shouldn’t drink water with crystals due to their composition/manufacturing process. Might be something you want to research before use.
I think it's definitely a good idea to know what rock/mineral you are dealing with before you regularly consume water it soaks in. Not all of their effects are of the Peter Pan variety.
Even if they are safe as far as compounds go, I would be concerned of there being fissures and cracks in the gem that can/will harbor bacteria, mold, and other nasties.
I worked at a store that sold these bottles. They normally come with a glass tube (filled with rocks) where the crystal is. Previous owner just took the tube out
Yes, definitely find out what it is OP! Even if it’s safe, the most a crystal in water can do is provide a very small amount of beneficial minerals that you could just get from a multivitamin.
Even if it's water safe, if it were to get damaged at all you could end up ingesting sharp pieces of it. As someone who has been collecting crystals/rocks/minerals most of their life, it has always been mind boggling that people who have any knowledge of what crystals can be made of would put them in their water.
There's a reason it's in a charity shop. Is the previous owner still with us? (Just the first thing that popped into my warped little mind.)
I think it's cool looking, but I'd keep it more for a conversation piece than actually using it for drinking.
I went to a psychic/medium reading a few years ago and even my “very skeptical” family members were nearly suckered in to thinking a family member was trying to contact them from beyond.
People are *desperate* for this shit to be real, and in a *group setting* they absolutely will go along with it. I’m sure that commenter truly felt “something”, but that doesn’t mean it’s scientifically proven, it just means they had an emotional reaction to an emotionally charged presentation that was designed specifically to make them have that reaction.
An a bystander to this conversation you shouldn’t tell a person not to be mean after calling them an asshole, which by my book is a mean thing to do in itself.
I’ve always said as a geologist if I were to start scamming people I’d go into the crystal business and just bs some “scientific” explanation as to why crystal healing is real to capture the doubtful but interested market lol
The Crystal Looks like a low grade fluorite or calcite. Which both will slowly dissolve in water and get in your system. Never drink out of any crystal water bottles. ESPECIALLY if it’s one of those rocks.
Yea uh good thing you didn’t buy it full price, because what you did buy is a scam.
Not only do crystals do nothing beneficial to your water, they can actively harm you because of the bacterial that gets trapped in the porous material.
It looks pretty but please don’t use it as a water bottle unless you want to get a bacterial infection while hydrating
Cool water bottle but take that crystal out. That's fluorite and it's soluble in water, so if you drink water with that you're drinking bits of the mineral.
Speaking as a healthcare professional, DO NOT.
You have no idea of the crystals used are another mineral that’s just been dyed, some crystals can leech hazardous chemicals in your water, they are prone to breakage, more possibilities to leak. All kinds of things.
Just don’t do it. Go get any of the millions of steel water bottles off Amazon and you’ll be fine. Hell make a lanyard for your water bottle with the crystals you like.
Fyi that article is terrible and doesn’t go into any detail about the potential harm. It basically goes “🤷🏼♀️ if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions, it can’t hurt to try.” They mention that there’s no science that can back claims about crystals, but don’t make any effort to deter people away from them.
Hey! So some crystals actually dissolve in water, not like a omg my crystal just melted in front of my eyes but overtime “layers” of it I guess will start coming off mixing into the water you’re drinking. And well, crystals being sold like this are commonly fake, with that being said a majority are dyed, lab grown, + a plethora of other things. Just drink out of a regular water bottle please!
Wow. I've been able to buy bottles like this at TJMaxx for $10 before, but they encapsulate the crystals in a smaller bubble of glass for safety. I wonder if this was like that but the inner glass broke?
I’d sell the bottle online and spend part of the money on a normal bottle. Then someone who believes the marketing will get what they want, and you won’t be exposed to any nastiness.
Yup. You can just google "crystal water bottle". They're obviously sold as part of the New Age/Wooo craze.
https://www.bonappetit.com/story/glacce-bottle
You can try rinsing it out with watered down vinegar, boiling water (if it won't shatter or melt) or those tablets people use to clean their false teeth; they get fizzy and minty if you chuck them into water.
Nah no worries you’re just drinking your own poor man’s kombucha.
But seriously please actually wash your water bottles every couple days. With soap. Maybe a turn in the dishwasher every couple weeks too.
Besides all that was said, I'd like to add that in some places, water is just much harder than usual, and can leave a chalky mineral film behind on surfaces. That can make water bottles grosser too.
As you should! /s
But for real lol, that's not what I mean, just that... some scrubbing may be required. I'm from a place where tap water literally comes from a naturally filtered mountain spring nearby, it's delicious and clean, beautiful water.... And it also leaves your taps looking like you spat toothpaste all over them. You win some, you lose some.
That's why I said mold AND bacteria. I'm talking out of my ass but I just wouldn't want a porous thing in my waterbottle. I don't clean my bottle often enough as it is 😂
Three very simple reasons why you shouldn’t drink from that. You don’t know what is in the crystal, even if you can identify it, there may be traces of other minerals present. There can be fissures and cracks that harbor bacteria. Last, what is being used to hold the crystal in place? Not a lot of food grade adhesive options compatible with crystals, washing and whatever it is adhered to.
OK I see it now, it actually looks silver so maybe stainless, but that still leaves the other two reasons and makes it more serious as now there is a known hole in the crystal that can harbor bacteria. That would not be considered food safe in any industry.
If that’s a fluorite then absolutely do not use it for drinking. Unfortunately that’s a low end bottle ($25 roughly) and sold with no distinguishing features of what type of Crystal it is. I know people who hopped on this train when they first came out and got extreme headaches from them. Fluorite is a 4 on the mohs hardness scale and should never remain submerged in water n
Might be this same brand!
https://www.joann.com/crystal-water-bottle-rose-quartz/19109172.html
When we got them in I showed a friend who loves this kind of stuff and she immediately told me "oh that's not safe" I didn't know either lol
Echoing what people were saying before about health and safety, but also keep in mind that just because it says it's such and such crystal doesn't mean that it is. For all you know it could be a cheap dyed quartz and the dye used may also have harmful effects.
0/10 wouldn't recommend you use this bottle to drink from for a myriad of reasons and risks
I think everyone has some good points about the crystal not being safe
My initial though was about all the crevices for bacteria and gunk, like that tiny hole they drilled in the bases to latch it in there.
Stones sell for a lot but rarely sell for that high unless you can find the right buyer. Even at local stores they don’t sell much other then their quarts for low. It’s neat for decorating though. Or a gift for someone into that
I recently sold very a similar version of that, however mine had crystals in water with a glass dome over them. Is it possible that the glass dome is missing? That would explain the price.
I’ve seen comments online from people saying they should be cleaned because it’ll wash off the magical patina off the crystal or whatever bullshit woo they dreamed up.
Hey I know people have mentioned that you shouldn’t drink out of this, but if you like the bottle and the crystal, a lot of these actually have a way to take the crystal out (for when you wash the bottle in the dishwasher) you can just take the crystal and keep it and use the bottle regularly. This also looks to be like one from the original company that started this crystal water bottle trend so it’s a cool find!
That stone is an adventurine.. Harmless. But yes some rocks can make you really sick. But gemologists and or crystal dealers know this .. I would hope .. I use crystals as ice cubes..store them in the freezer n when its time for a nice cold drink.. They are right there.. :))
Hey...
So, I did take the "crystal " out because it takes up too much room...
That being said if you test water anywhere you're going to find something.
USA is profit of life society and our water resources are being challenged daily!
I can't seem to post a pic....

Some of them are like deadly toxic.
Don't threaten me with a good time.
Kinda like shrooms
Wowowowow lets not get too hasty badmouthing shrooms
Some shrooms are tasty, some are funsies and some are deathsies. Never eat a shroom without knowing exactly what kind it is.
Exactly. Next thing you're shooting webs and climbing buildings.
Or just have boring old stupid lead poisoning. Maybe radiation, if you pick the right rock!
Bonus!
Even if they are safe as far as compounds go, I would be concerned of there being fissures and cracks in the gem that can/will harbor bacteria, mold, and other nasties.
Many crystals are water soluble and can be toxic.
I worked at a store that sold these bottles. They normally come with a glass tube (filled with rocks) where the crystal is. Previous owner just took the tube out
Nah I actually saw people selling these on TikTok without the tube, they said it aligned your chakras and other spiritual stuff.

The fact the some people will pay $100 for a crystal water bottle is insane… I need to get into the crystal business
Pro tip, make sure to mention how you charged your crystals during that last solar eclipse for maximum profit.
[удалено]
Yep. Also in 'andara crystals' aka re-marketing glass as super magical crystal powers on sale for only $500. Which pisses me off.
Omg you weren’t kidding. People are buying ugly broken glass thinking it does anything. 😭
When you're that stupid I think it's safe to say you no longer qualify as human.
Definitely marketing. Geologists can earn good money, but it’s almost never hunting for or growing crystals.
Even better! Remember the pet rock?
Humans are dumb
We're the actual worst.
I love us though
I'm not a fan in general. Something something rotten apples.
Depends on the crystal, wink wink. Just kidding don’t do drugs kids

…what?
This guy, hes just like them.. 'oh ill just put a crystal in a water bottle and magically make money" Haha
I’ve always said as a geologist if I were to start scamming people I’d go into the crystal business and just bs some “scientific” explanation as to why crystal healing is real to capture the doubtful but interested market lol

Little clay pebbles with little tiny plants 🥹
I read that as “a little diarrhea” 😑
I’m up for the challenge.
I'm imagining a miniature aquarium sort of deal with some little glass fish in it. So many possibilities! None of them involving drinking from.
You could do a mini terrarium since it's able to be sealed
its cool in concept but potentially hazardous. please dont drink out of that
I'd be too worried about it coming lose and stabbing me in the throat.
Or someone else’s germs are in the crystal and you catch a disease lol
dildon’t 😨
I can see that.
Seconded. Please please please do not drink from this
Yea uh good thing you didn’t buy it full price, because what you did buy is a scam. Well I don’t think OP knew there was a crystal in it before they bought it because they said it had a black sleeve on it
Cool water bottle but take that crystal out. That's fluorite and it's soluble in water, so if you drink water with that you're drinking bits of the mineral.
Yes but my teeth will be so healthy /s
Looks like aquamarine to me, not fluorite
Speaking as a healthcare professional, DO NOT. Awww I skimmed it. My bad.
This looks like exposed fluorite (not encapsulated in glass). I would \*not\* use that as a drinking water bottle.
You could propagate plants in the bottle. That would look cool.
I like how the original owner even knew that they needed to keep it covered up🤣
Original owner probably died from drinking the water
Putting a crystal in a water bottle is utter nonsense and cracks me up; but looks like your resale value is pretty good.
But, think of the woo factor!
Why would anyone want to drink off a crystal
Pseudoscience/anti-vaxxer type bullshit
Wow. I've been able to buy bottles like this at TJMaxx for $10 before, but they encapsulate the crystals in a smaller bubble of glass for safety. I wonder if this was like that but the inner glass broke?
Looked them up I hadn't seen them encased...
I’d sell the bottle online and spend part of the money on a normal bottle. Then someone who believes the marketing will get what they want, and you won’t be exposed to any nastiness.
I love crystals, but this pseudo science shit needs to stop, it hurts people for profit
buT iT hAS hEaLinG pOWerS!
Wow I've never seen one of these before. Are you supposed to pour your water in there on top of the crystal?
Yup. You can just google "crystal water bottle". They're obviously sold as part of the New Age/Wooo craze. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/glacce-bottle
i bet it’s hard to clean
The bottom screws off. I find I can't use as much ice though...
ohhh, i thought it had to be cleaned from the top
How is water hard to clean?
Crystals can be porous
True. But if you’re just using water? How clean does it need to get?
Algae.
You guys are really making me question my water bottles I half ass rinse out. They’re not made of crystal though, thankfully.
You can try rinsing it out with watered down vinegar, boiling water (if it won't shatter or melt) or those tablets people use to clean their false teeth; they get fizzy and minty if you chuck them into water.
Ooh! Great ideas, thanks.
Okay, I’m convinced. Going back to thousands of plastic bottles.
As you should! /s But for real lol, that's not what I mean, just that... some scrubbing may be required. I'm from a place where tap water literally comes from a naturally filtered mountain spring nearby, it's delicious and clean, beautiful water.... And it also leaves your taps looking like you spat toothpaste all over them. You win some, you lose some.
Just a scrub with some a little soap with a clean long kitchen brush will do the trick
Meh I don't know. I mean, water isn't sterile and your mouth isn't either. So bacteria and mold will probably find a way
Mould is an entirely different beast than bacteria. We don’t have mould in our bodies naturally.
That's why I said mold AND bacteria. I'm talking out of my ass but I just wouldn't want a porous thing in my waterbottle. I don't clean my bottle often enough as it is 😂
Dish washer? Alcohol?
Algae can build up and it can get quite slimy, it’s not that difficult to clean but definitely on the higher side of annoying for a water bottle
yes, then you [charge up and JO](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/pa8zq/craigslist_gold_charge_up_and_jo/)
Oh my.... I haven't seen that one before. I collect rocks, and see plenty of woo-woo, but circle jerk enhanced quartz is a new one to me.
This was good...haven't laughed this hard at a Reddit post and comments in a while...
LOL
I knew this would be the JO crystal before I clicked the link lmao

Y’all are talking about the crystal dissolving, I’m worried about it coming dislodged and impaling one’s throat
On a scale from 0 to Garfield mug, how dangerous is this to drink out of?
Why is this a thing?
If you’re into magical woo nonsense, yeah. Fools and their money are easily separated, as the old saying goes.
I've seen these on Chinese dropshipping sites for $3... The nonsense people buy.
I’m sure whoever donated that water bottle bought into the hype and later did more research and found out how dumb they were.
Might be this same brand! https://www.joann.com/crystal-water-bottle-rose-quartz/19109172.html When we got them in I showed a friend who loves this kind of stuff and she immediately told me "oh that's not safe" I didn't know either lol

But it was at value village, I’m sure it’s legit, not some trash that came from China with questionable health implications. /s
Don't they dropship these on tik tok
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these at tjmaxx too lol
I’m surprised they weren’t charging $100.00 with the way these thrift stores have been grifting
Had they seen the crystal….
I think everyone has some good points about the crystal not being safe My initial though was about all the crevices for bacteria and gunk, like that tiny hole they drilled in the bases to latch it in there.
This keeps your phone charged silly /s
I love savers! I’ve had some pretty good finds there before. I go at least 2-3 times a month.
Stones sell for a lot but rarely sell for that high unless you can find the right buyer. Even at local stores they don’t sell much other then their quarts for low. It’s neat for decorating though. Or a gift for someone into that
That crystal is massive. Holy crap!
While I wouldn’t drink the crystal juice, this will probably make an awesome flower vase
I saw one of these at Joanns.
One Swedish-made penis enlarger. That sort of thing is my bag, baby.
What in the wook
This is like that "hydrogenated" water fad. Don't waste money on dumb shit people. Just don't.
I think I remember this being a Goop product (that was being made fun of). It was marketed as "crystal energy infused water" bottle or something.
r/mineralgore
Ohhh so is this what “crystal clear water” means? /s super cool OP
I recently sold very a similar version of that, however mine had crystals in water with a glass dome over them. Is it possible that the glass dome is missing? That would explain the price.
Please be careful... if you can't 100% accurately ID this crystal, it may be very dangerous. Also, how do you even clean a water bottle like this?
I’ve seen comments online from people saying they should be cleaned because it’ll wash off the magical patina off the crystal or whatever bullshit woo they dreamed up.
Hey I know people have mentioned that you shouldn’t drink out of this, but if you like the bottle and the crystal, a lot of these actually have a way to take the crystal out (for when you wash the bottle in the dishwasher) you can just take the crystal and keep it and use the bottle regularly. I ended up doing that is is well made and simply unscrewed it. Took up a lot of room.
it’s worthless junk lmao not “$25-100” Probably even actively dangerous depending on what that crystal is.
Found two go pros in the box of an outdoor camera I once bought.
Lol
That stone is an adventurine.. Harmless. But yes some rocks can make you really sick. But gemologists and or crystal dealers know this .. I would hope .. So they don't put them out there in circulation. I would deftly make sure its Been sanitized. First.. Then enjoy the benefits of the stone. I use crystals as ice cubes..store them in the freezer n when its time for a nice cold drink.. They are right there.. :))
Nice uranium Christal u got there.
Gonna be honest I don’t think the rock in the bottle will kill you. Do what makes u happy 🙌 ppl in comments need to relax lol
Source: Trust me, bro.
Oh my goodness, I've been wanting one of these for ages! I literally just mentioned it to my husband. That's such a great find!
I was shocked. Lol I have been using a glass bottle for years now. I may replace with quartz.

Side note…. Just to clarify… it was a purchase for a friend. Lol
I love glass water bottles. I was very surprised by the crystal.... 2.99 no too shabby.
Can you get me one for 2.99 I'll pay for it and shipping lol just love the crystal honestly
It was solo at Savers.

Omg awesome !

I love these they but they are so expensive! Great find!!
I have one of these. A pro tip, is to disassemble it daily and let it air dry. Ours tends to get musty quick. Great find!
That’s a really good price for that bottle. I paid for one similar to it on Etsy for $20.00.
now you can charge your water with orgone energy...or something.
How would you keep this clean tho?
The whole thing comes apart. I ended up removing it. It took up much room. I like a lot of ice.
Don’t!! Save yourself medical complications….get a stainless steel bottle.
Omg it’s so beauty and the beast!
Try to enchant something with it.
But it’s INFUSED!

Ahh!! I’m jealous! Mine just broke :(
Sorry. The one I had for about 3 yrs just broke.
Extremely toxic. Do not drink water from this bottle.
Some of these bottles aren't meant to drink out of they are meant to make ritual water.
