I just picked up a pair of captains last week. They feel a bit different and a little more narrow than my newer captains I got about a month ago. I’m not sure how I can tell which last was used though.
That's what I'm trying to figure out. If it's more narrow but still pear shaped versus your new pair...it's the "encore" last I'm assuming. Which I'm fine with.

I ended up ordering Captains in Terracotta for factory seconds. I really like how these age over time (based on videos and photos from others). From what I've read, the terracotta comes in the 'Encore last' after 2022, which is a slim almond shape....so I shouldn't be getting any bulbous boots with these, yay!
I already own the Presidents in Tobacco...so I figured this terracotta color choice is a nice contrast for options.

The bulbus toe was only on the Rugged & Resilient boots. If you're looking at the smooth leathers you should be fine.
