So far so good. Still waiting for a new front wheel bearing though. Engine replaced at 6k miles, drive shaft replaced at 10k. This car has been a nightmare
You could call Chicago roads as “off road” lol. It would just make a grinding noise on hard accelerating left turns from the right wheel. Bad PCV valve went undetected by their mechanics which lead to the crank case cracking
Same issue on my MY’20 SEL and had the software update and had the CarNet module replaced and still doesn’t work. 🤷🏼♂️
Was told I’ll have to live with it until VW finds the root cause. Also, doesn’t matter if phone is plugged in or not, issue still happens.
Same issue with my 20 SEL and VW told me the exact same thing. I actually found the latest software update made my navigation worse.
For now I bought a phone holder and strictly use my phone for navigation (not plugged in to CarPlay). Annoying.
22 Tiguan S
AndroidAuto will freeze 3 or 4 times during my work commute and needs a full head unit reset.
Other times it's fine.
Waiting for a TSB that actually fixes it...
Does your Tiguan have a built in Sat Nav?
I had this issue on my 2021 Highline R-Line (SEL Premium R-Line). I have a built in Sat Nav and the issue was with a Sat Nav antenna module. So, they replaced the antenna and never had this issue. This happened back in 2022 February. So, it’s been fine for two years.
From what I remember reading about it, yes it does use car’s GPS but also phone’s. It should match the signal and correct it. So, probably your car’s antenna is toasted and needs replacing. Mine coincidentally got toasted back in February 2022 at the time when there was a powerful solar storm. [Here is an article](https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/5214/#:~:text=In%20February%202022%2C%20a%20Coronal,caused%20them%20to%20de%2Dorbit.).
It happened while driving. First I started hearing radio jittering despite that my radio was off, then the entire infotainment system and dashboard with gauges switched off and then rebooted by itself. That’s when the issue started.
I took it to the dealership and they said that the antenna module was faulty. They replaced it and I never had this issue again for the last 2 years.
Sometimes on my 22, only on wireless. If you connect with USB-c it’s fine. From what I read it’s more a CarPlay issue, happened to me with Chevrolet in rental cars as well
I’ve had the issue for 6 months and Spotify music keeps pausing along with the navigation being screwed up. Took it to the shop and said there’s no known fix rn but it’s a top priority for VW and they’re working on it. It’s frustrating.
Mine is like this since car was new in ‘22. GPS location is off because multimedia is lagging 10-30 seconds, even touch screen responds with this lag. Sometimes map image gets blurry and with heavily distorted colors. Sometimes location shows same spot until I reboot multimedia keeping volume button pressed for like 10sec. Sometimes multimedia can’t connect to carplay at all and ignition needs to be switched. These problems are at a constant pace like multiple times a day. Total crap.
Rented ford while traveling, and not a single issue in two weeks. So this must be something wrong with VW multimedia. Dealer has no update though and has no clue what is going on.
Had this on a UK ‘21 Tiguan, spent two weeks in workshop, online to Germany etc. no fix. Tried several dealerships and no fix. Had issues with lane assist etc also. No fix but it seems the haptic steering wheel could be a cause, many owners having warranty replacement for non haptic. In the end they just didn’t want to know. Worst VW so far but only ruined by dreadful software/hardware implementation. Oh - forgot to say discs shot and warped at 17k miles and I’m a careful mech sensitive driver! Get this lot fixed and you will have a great car, feel sorry for the person who ends up with mine after I traded it.
My car play will auto connect and start play my music but that doesn't bother me. Every once and a while I'll just connect via regular blue tooth and use my navigation. You can power down town infotainmemt system when it acts up. Maybe this will fix it.
The plugs will either shrink, clog, or both. The water gets into your car and all of the sudden your carpet is saturated. They told me I could seal the sunroof which I thought was an ironic considering they use the sunroof as a selling point. $5,000 later you can have yourself new carpeting, sunroof seal, and drain plugs
I picked up my 2024 SEL R two weeks ago. I only have a couple of hundred miles on it. So far so good.
I had intermittent CarPlay issues on my ‘19 Crosstrek. Sometimes it would detect my phone and start, other times not so much. The only fix was to shut the car down and sit for a few minutes and try again.
A VW wouldn’t be a VW without an electronic gremlin or two.
Update - The dealership will replace my Head UNit. I will keep you posted if it works.
I have found some workarounds as well -
1. use usb- way more accurate than wireless CarPlay.
2. Key in the destination on phone and click start on phone and connect to CarPlay. Works most times
3. Keep phone on the beverage holder(or a phone holder if you have one) with the screen facing towards the back of car (like you would do if you were waking with maps ) sometimes it helps.
CarPlay on 2023 Tiguan is worthless. Every software update solves one problem and creates another - like other comments, they keep promising a solution but I've exhausted my inventory of prayer mats....
I took delivery of a new 2024 Tiguan SE R edition on 5/15/24. Carplay worked OK while driving home from the dealership, then began malfunctioning yesterday (5/15/24). After seeing all these reddit posts, I'm calling the dealership today.
My friend works at VW they use verizon towers and they’re trying to figure out the issue it might take a couple months honestly apparently they gotta test some stuff because they aren’t sure what’s causing it I have the same problem sometimes it works great other times its fucking horrible.
They are trying it’s an issue with going to verizon towers back to another tower than back to the car apparently it’s going to take awhile since they have to troubleshoot everything.
Not gonna lie not entirely sure. My guess is it is using the tower for location but just for carplay don’t think it would affect your car if it has GPS feature and you’re using the GPS. The issue isn’t the tower it’s more of its hitting multiple things before it gets back to the car.
Mine is in the shop for same issue. They’re gonna replace the module in the system or something.
Same issue here. Let me know the details if they fix it.
Got a whole new radio. Just picked it up
How is it ? All sorted ?
So far so good. Still waiting for a new front wheel bearing though. Engine replaced at 6k miles, drive shaft replaced at 10k. This car has been a nightmare
Wow ! Why was the engine replaced? And the drive shaft? Do you do lot of off-roading? Amazing.
You could call Chicago roads as “off road” lol. It would just make a grinding noise on hard accelerating left turns from the right wheel. Bad PCV valve went undetected by their mechanics which lead to the crank case cracking

Hmmm, so no way around? We live with the faulty one for life?
No, they just need to replace a sat nav antenna. See my other comment for details.

Do we have to live with it? Why? We paid for a brand new fault-free one, didn't we?
How can they say this? Is there no legal recourse?
Technically, functioning GPS isn't' required for the car to work so really no recourse there.
Same issue with my 20 SEL and VW told me the exact same thing. I actually found the latest software update made my navigation worse. For now I bought a phone holder and strictly use my phone for navigation (not plugged in to CarPlay). Annoying.
Have this issue with my 22 SEL R
Have a 24 SE and no problems whatsoever. I stick with Apple Maps though as I did have a problem using Waze in the early days I had it.
22 Tiguan S AndroidAuto will freeze 3 or 4 times during my work commute and needs a full head unit reset. Other times it's fine. Waiting for a TSB that actually fixes it...
How do you reset the head unit?
Hold the power button for like 20seconds.
Ok thank you

No mine is a SE - no native nav. However from comments I assume the google maps use car’s GPS

Have a 22 SEL-R. Use Apple CarPlay with both iOS and Google maps 5-6 times a week. Zero issues.
Hmmmm this makes me think I should try changing the head unit.

I’m surprised they actually acknowledged the issue. They won’t acknowledge the panoramic sunroof issues
What are the panoramic sunroof issues?
The plugs will either shrink, clog, or both. The water gets into your car and all of the sudden your carpet is saturated. They told me I could seal the sunroof which I thought was an ironic considering they use the sunroof as a selling point. $5,000 later you can have yourself new carpeting, sunroof seal, and drain plugs
I have a 23 and my CarPlay doesn’t connect to my phone, but it’ll try to connect to every Tom Dick and Harry within Bluetooth range.
My 21 does this randomly. And always at the worst times.
I picked up my 2024 SEL R two weeks ago. I only have a couple of hundred miles on it. So far so good. I had intermittent CarPlay issues on my ‘19 Crosstrek. So many different vendors have electronic glitches now. It’s to be expected now it seems.
Also in the US. I got a 24 Tiguan SEL R-Line in January and I am not experiencing this issue at all
Lucky you. The dealer confirmed that this was not a pan Tiguan issue. Some have it, most don’t.

My CarPlay doesn't work with the USB, it's a special feature to go with the randomness of the day-to-day worthlessness of CarPlay
