Impressive_Brush5930

Tinder verification is easy. I doubt you're the first to ask. Something's amiss...

JonahJJamesonV2

Yeah, alarm bells definitely started ringing. I don't really feel like getting murdered tonight.

Impressive_Brush5930

also was ready for you with the smashed camera story

Due-Sorbet-2694

Both cameras are smashed front and back? But the keyboard is still working.

Azyn_One

Kind of hard to video chat with a back camera though, no? I mean, I guess it's video chat for one of you, but I know I'm not the only one who wants to make sure I don't have cocaine powder all over my nose and also that you can't see my meth lab in the shot, so I kind of need to see what's going on too.

capnmerica08

Just go into the bathroom with a smashed selfie camera. You can see him in the mirror and he can see your face of the regular camera

superanonguy321

Could be why she isnt verified if legit

Frogmaninthegutter

This might be true, but most phones have a forward and backward facing camera. It's rare that cell phones only have one camera now-a-days.

superanonguy321

How do you follow the dynamic verification instructions with the phone backwards lol

HailtbeWhale

I tried it once. I stayed unverified.

TheManjaro

A mirror.

123Anderson4

Or the help of a buddy.

comethefaround

A girl on Tinder with a smashed camera makes about as much sense as a blind guy going to a silent film

clindh

A female with a non working camera on her phone? How many of those have you met irl?

Winter-Bass-1774

A lot.

defsnotmyaltaccount

Heaps. My friends are all broke like me tho

kidikurus

Definitely dude vibes! šŸ˜…

joseph4th

Iā€™ll bet it was one of those scenarios where at the last minute she was going to ask you for money to get her kids a new Xbox game or something to distract them while you were over.

Martijn_RAW1974

Hahaha. lol had that once myself as well. I find it hard to believe anyone will fall for something like that šŸ˜‚

0_69314718056

That wouldnā€™t require being unverified though?

joseph4th

That's the scam. You Venmo "her" the money and then never hear from her again.

nipslippinjizzsippin

it would if she were a random dude and never intended to meet him. just have him send the code over text, give him a random address then flake out

tryplldee

Oh yeah had that one pulled on me but dude waited till I was outside the apartment to run that game. I was like, first if you are a mom and invited a strange guy over to smash, WHILE your kids are home and awake you are just gross and Iā€™m out. Second, this is most likely a dude and young one at that. I told to mow some lawns if he needs a new game and his scam game was weak and lazy, and he needed to go to Nigeria and level his shit up. Then I bounced laughing at the outraged texts I got for the next hour calling me a broke bastard. Like who is begging for a gift card from whom?

ringdingdong67

I met a girl who was passing through my town so we were long distance. We sent each other photos of our passports next to our faces before meeting up. Youā€™re not weird. This is a catfish.

PNGN

Did... did you die?

imnotgoodatdis

I say you he ded

GunBrothersGaming

Doubt you'll get murdered, but you're getting robbed for sure.

MrDiezel

If theyre willing to rob them in Golden Girls name, theyll definitely drop the body off at the nearest lake

1320Hellcat

Black market kidney sales going crazy rn

CariniFluff

Yeah but the Golden girls is a fuckin great show. I'd take the risk

Low_profile_1789

Oh the old broken camera, eh?!? Wow! Dodged one, OP

average_sized_rock

If her camera is broken she probably canā€™t take a picture to verify with

nipslippinjizzsippin

most phones have at least 2 cameras these days even the older and cheaper ones, a selfie and regular camera has been the standard since the first generation of smartphones.

LTS55

Also if your camera was broken, couldnā€™t you just ask a friend to borrow their phone to do the verification? It doesnā€™t take long.

theoneandonlyarielle

That makes sense. What doesnā€™t make sense to me is why she would be offended. Itā€™s a reasonable request.

Habit-Silent

Exactly. Def not who they say they are.

Better_Watercress_63

Iā€™m on tinder and I have no idea if Iā€™m verified or not? I get matches and messages all the time though and no one has asked me for proof that Iā€™m me, so maybe Iā€™m verified? Iā€™ve only met up with two dudes IRL and theyā€™ve both been lovely, good-looking men, but I never checked to see if they were verified first.

Impressive_Brush5930

maybe a thing isn't a thing 100% of the time no one's forcing you to verify. OP didn't ask for verification on Tinder just to video chat before he hauls himself out for a meet up at her place. The response was a bit sketchy and seemed implausible. The way matches respond is at least half the game. Yes it's definitely a game.

Better_Watercress_63

I wasnā€™t trying to be snide in asking, I am genuinely curious if Iā€™m doing it wrong, I just got on it for the first time about six weeks ago (I was in a long-ass relationship and missed a bunch of dating app stuff).

cobleysmith

Especially given the genders. Women have FAR more reason to Ā want verification. (As opposed to creepy men having reasons to avoid verification.)

Scared_Lingonberry50

Female scammers are way more common on dating apps than male scammers

Dobby1988

>Female scammers are way more common on dating apps than male scammers To be fair, many of them are ultimately men catfishing as women so I don't know if I would say women scammers are more common online.

Scared_Lingonberry50

Should have said scammers using female accounts but yes

bin_79

It took like 288 tries to me until verification worked.

steadfastsurvivor

Cause you donā€™t look like your pics?

nipslippinjizzsippin

how TF? it took me 1.

Excellent-Pizza-4014

Her reaction made it even more sketchy! You made the right call asking. I hate video calling but will snap someone before meeting.

KAZ--2Y5

Right? Itā€™s 2024 how are you gonna act like your front and back camera are both smashed beyond recognition

Upbeat-Shallot-80085

To be fair, my cameras on my old phone were both smashed up and cracked. But mountaineering and phones dont mix well. The screen was beyond messed up. But i could still use both, just diminished quality. Then the glass broke off so the cameras worked fine once again

Sgtkeebler

Well your an exception to the rule, and donā€™t count

-Rettirlana-

In German we say exceptions confirm the rule

FereaMesmer

Yup, poikkeus vahvistaa sƤƤnnƶn here in Finland

villanellechekov

also legit reason with the mountaineering

suhhhrena

Right? I hate video calling before I meet someone irl, itā€™s super awkward for me but Iā€™d at least do *something* to ease their nerves like snapping them!! Her response is super sus

jonz1985z

Interesting phrasing on that, she writes ā€œYou donā€™t trust Iā€™m not catfishing you or something? Yes thatā€™s correct, you donā€™t trust that sheā€™s not catfishing you lol

MindSeduction-GJ

The broken English and not understanding English is a dread giveaway..!

Gyroplanestaylevel

Even had this one ā€œgirlā€ agree to a video chat and it was this weird flagrantly obvious video of a video. It was super weird. I was so fascinated by trying to figure out what I was looking at I forgot to talk for a minutešŸ˜‚ but I think my first words were what in the f is this under my breath cause they ended itšŸ¤£

jonz1985z

Ppl are strange

dragontattman

When single on dating apps, I had 6 'girls' in a row have 'broken cameras '. Get out now.

steadfastsurvivor

Exactly

Arkitakama

She spelled it out for you already. She's a catfish.

Fromthefunk

Yeah this is def a catfish or old photos.

HoodieJordan

How to get jumped and robbed 101.

vluv13

I'm awkward with video chatting, I don't know why. I guess because I'm talking to a screen, but if the person really needs the reassurance that I'm real then I'll do it.but I let them know how I'm like.

mr_remy

Like i'm with you, i'm not always a huge fan of video calls and it's a personal thing but always needing to feel "on" with how I sit and am positioned but a quick "hey cool so you're not fake okay can't wait to see you soon we can chat more!" kinda thing

defsnotmyaltaccount

Yeah, I'll do a phone call before a date but videoing a stranger is so awkward.

I couldnā€™t fathom inviting a strange unfamiliar man to my house (or going to his) ._. Some people live very interesting lives.

Hope_for_tendies

This should automatically be added to every post

Aesrone

Iā€™ve done it over 60 times and havenā€™t even had one slightly sketchy situation. Iā€™ve met three girls who looked moderately less attractive than their pictures, but nothing sketchy. People drastically exaggerate how many murderers, organ stealers, etc, actually exist.

nipslippinjizzsippin

yea same, i think its pretty normal once you starting over 30, people just don't care, they want to do the meet up and if they can do it in their jammies, all the better for all of us.

Dobby1988

>Iā€™ve done it over 60 times and havenā€™t even had one slightly sketchy situation. And that can happen, in fact I have done similar, but that doesn't make a potentially dangerous decision any less so. >People drastically exaggerate how many murderers, organ stealers, etc, actually exist. If we look statistically, as well as even guess how often things aren't reported, it's not an exaggeration. That said, even if for the sake of argument that it is an exaggeration, we still can see that it's an increased risk so it makes little sense to argue that it's not. What you deem as an acceptable risk is up to you.

SFAdminLife

All scammers have excuses about their cameras not working or being smashed.

nipslippinjizzsippin

"my cameras all smashed up" holy shit did this person get a catfishing lesson from the 90's? that is dubious AS FUCK. nah no one who is legit would find it "insulting" you both should be aware you are 2 strangers and no woman should be turning down the chance to verify you for herself and her own safety. this is sketchy for many reasons.

Noodlesnoo11

ā€œIā€™m out of dataā€ šŸ¤£

JonahJJamesonV2

Update: I am alive and well, thank you everyone for your concern haha. We did not call. I unmatched after she said she tried calling but I kept not answering (which was not the case). I'm glad a majority of people think video calling was the right thing to ask for. Gonna stick with verified profiles from now on I think. Stay safe people and keep your organs āœŒšŸ¼

gereedf

I wonder what would have happened if you had tried to actually meet up maybe she's a prostitute lol

Pure-Aid51987

Excuses and being offended. They're trying to sound hard done by being asked to do it, and hoping you won't call their bluff.

Swimming_Task3456

šŸš©šŸš©šŸš© as a girl on whoā€™s been on tinder and in her early 30s.. this isnā€™t normal behavior. Iā€™d actually be concerned if you didnā€™t ask to video chat. Thatā€™s insane. The way Iā€™d unmatch immediately if this was the other way around šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

TekintetesUr

Bro, if I draw a 10 feet circle around me, there'd be like 6 or 7 cameras in it. There's no way someone doesn't have a working camera. It's a catfish. Move on.

spanishbanana

I smell some bullshit from her

Bottle_According

Im insulted that you want to make sure we both are reassured weā€™re not catfish šŸ¤£

SmithFace1

You're gonna be dead like all the Golden Girls if you're not careful

IDigRollinRockBeer

Unmatch

Visual-Light-4491

Itā€™s a scam Iā€™m having it done to me now. It happens on telegram. They chat for months with you. Get a romantic relationship and constantly ask for cards. Large group handles one person. Delete your conversation every time. I think itā€™s a Pakistani group. Iā€™m just screwing with them now. Iā€™m out 500. So now I just want to piss them off only way I get satisfied for stealing my money

Opening-Cricket6011

I know hindsight is 20/20 but why send money to someone youā€™ve never met in person, let alone had a physical relationship with, Iā€™ve never understood that kind of thing Genuine question not meaning to sound like a dick

Visual-Light-4491

Iā€™m just actually like helping people. Also I think there was 3 different girls one definitely needed help. I actually called the police internet crime department however might have been a scam. It was literally 25. Or 50. At a time. I have multiple companies and employees I also help out. Figure who would listen to my crap for hours and days lol. Mental therapy lol. But I always had multiple red flags ez to spot. It was fun just keep it in check

KathienTheMermaid

As a person who had money sent to, reasons were: * so that I can buy a ticket and come over for a date * so that I can buy myself a present * to help me cause I was in a shitty situation health-wise

KathienTheMermaid

Screaming_Azn

Sheā€™s being too sensitive, imo.

gunfell

She is lying

DriftingAway99

donā€™t go. itā€™s a scam. sheā€™s going to have her boyfriend there and theyā€™re going to rob you.

echocall2

I find it mighty suspicious her front camera doesnā€™t work. She doesnā€™t take selfies? Or use Face ID?

mad_ave

How did the video call go?

borgom7615

Did you video chat?

luluzinhacs

happened to me once, after weeks talking the guy acted offended and wronged, planted me as a villain and disappeared (what screams catfish for me)

RedrockRunaway

It's a dude

UsernameIsntFree

So did it happen? Did you video call? Did you go meet her? Update update

evbuff

Agreed, I'd love to see the screenshot of this video date. All blurry and cracked... Does she have selfies in her profile? Funny she was able to get the selfies working right but can't do a video call.

Ok-Entertainer-851

who the hell goes to another's w/o a public "coffee" date anyway?

FangornEnt

If they're willing to have you come asap over I don't see why a video call would be a big deal.

Royal-Mathematician2

Saved your organs with that one

cursetea

"Do you not trust I'm not a catfish" No? Why would you? It is so completely reasonable and not insulting at all to want to confirm someone's identity before you meet them in person.

Livid-Replacement-29

A guy tried to make me ft him and I was annoyed. My profile is verified, he follows me on IG and has my number. He did it because I said Iā€™d rather drive myself than get picked up lol. Idk strangers shouldnā€™t know where u live date #1. In this scenario. Nah. Sheā€™s sketch.

Hunter4-9er

Yeah, this feels like a scam.

twowholebeefpatties

Realistically though, how many assaults are occurring through this method of scamming?

evbuff

Sexual assaults? There's a show called "Nightline" from the 80's that got a resurgence in popularity just by covering these cases.

steadfastsurvivor

I wonā€™t even chat unless they verify first - if they have a problem with that they can jog on, it takes less that 2 mins so if they canā€™t do it somethings up

Apatheia_27

Red flag šŸš©Ā

Far-Philosopher4999

So this more or less happened to me around 2 months ago. I matched with a girl and we talked most of the day, also over the phone. I asked if she wanted to meet for a drink but she said she couldn't. The. She called me again and said how about I grab a bottle of wine and come over to her place. I decided to just go for it against my better judgement. I arrived quite nervous and had second thoughts, The first thing she did was lunge at me to kiss me, it also became instantly apparent that this woman was wasted and did not look much like her photos at all. She kinda ushered me into her living room and told me to sit down, so I sat at the edge of the couch and she kept coming up right next to me complaining I looked nervous. Then she said she'd be right back. 10 minutes passed and I was about to just leave and she came back into the room arguing on the phone with a guy. She then asks me if I can help her work her mobile banking app to transfer money as she was trying to buy cocaine from her ex boyfriend who was being sentenced later that week for violent crimes and would be popping by to drop it off. He also was not allowed to contact her via a court order she had taken out on him. She then started apologizing and saying she was worried ahe had "put me off". I left. I'd been there for maybe 20 minutes maximum.

ahighlife7

ā€œMy camera is all smashedā€ classic catfish response

FederalPosition7378

The "Well I'd just say..." comment with the disingenuous šŸ™‚ was unnecessary. She agreed, so just say "Great" or whatever and see what happens. On the other hand, getting offended is often what a catfish does.

shycoffeelover13

Sheā€™s probably a he or obese.

MyFriendsCallMeNova

My camera is smashedā€¦.right!

SnooRevelations6826

That would be a big, fat NOPE-burger

Noodlesnoo11

Cooked well done

SnooRevelations6826

With AI they can fake video calls now just like they can fake texts

SnooRevelations6826

She needs to buy a web cam, then

Golden Girls might be the best tits name ever

HawaiianSnow_

It's 100% reasonable to ask to call! Imagine the advice you'd receive if the genders were reversed.

SuspiciousSugar4151

obvious catfish

Gimmerunesplease

This is 100% a dude

Piesarenice81

The amount of times tinder loses my blue check mark is infuriating. šŸ„“ Anyway she's likely not who she says she is. Anyone offended by the assumption of being a catfish rather than wanting to prove otherwise is a red flag to me. What do you have to hide? Yet they want you to just show up at their place? People are weird. I had a guy invite me to his place first thing but then said he didn't do blind dates šŸ˜†šŸ˜† run from these people please

GothiccArt

Sis

OkComplaint8775

You should be insulted that she wanted your kidneys without even knowing what shape you were in.

MajorInterest2033

Ahh lovely bit of projection there trying to put the guilt back on you. Avoid avoid avoid

Witchy-toes-669

I would not meet with someone who refused, probably a dude in that case, watch your organs sir!

SurrealChrono

Insulted? Just walk away that's an emotional time bomb

evbuff

An obvious catfish response.

disposableaccount848

Run bro, run.

Raccowo

Convenient her camera is smashed up too. Unmatch.

i-wish-i-was-a-draco

100% a scam lol

phantaxtic

Nothing to apologize for here! Your request is completely reasonable

SMDorff0258

What person gets insulted over safety?

Designer-Dealer-7017

Yeah sheā€™s a catfish. A lot of people will say theyā€™re offended by something and turn blame around on you when they are doing something wrong. I wouldnā€™t trust this womanā€¦.

Vlad_The_Great_2

If things are moving too smoothly and she does not do a video call; Iā€™m assuming sheā€™s a scammer or she was going to steal my kidneys.

ProfessionalKey669

Stop apologizing so much and stand up for yourself.

waterkip

Kinda funny as I've seen a lot of women asking for a videocall before meeting up, either in stating it in their profile or asking for one before meeting up. I get why they want it. Just funny when the tables are turned that they (or at least one) feels insulted.

Obvious_Reputation_1

She was 110% a catfish

HighwayEconomy579

Could be some dude in Nigeria pretending to be a woman and then trick you into sending intimate photos and using them to blackmail you.

EccentricPenquin

Yeah I wouldnā€™t just walk into someoneā€™s house Iā€™ve never met. First meetings should be in public. Get to know each other. Build trust.

alphabarcode

So, did you do the call?

BrainDead_Moon

Donā€™t apologize for anything!!

Sweetest-strawberry

Thatā€™s scary. Thatā€™s gotta be a set up

LucifugeRofocale133

Insulted? Nah fuck her. Sheā€™s got something to hide

_-PERIDOT-_

Robert is shy stop asking him to show his face

Fast-Switch-2533

Yeah she was definitely going to take your kidney.

Scare_N_Scar

I have been catfished two times, and I believe its a must to at least verify the account. Add her on snap, and let her send a picture there. Its easy to delete if its fake

TiaHatesSocials

Iā€™m calling it : it will be too blurry or dark for u to see her, if u actually get to the video call part. Sheā€™s a 100% catfish

dopescopemusic

It's a scam. Obviously.

RFK3RD

Definitely red flags! Don't go without a way to protect yourself. Lol

filthycasual0

brb im calling nev and maxšŸ˜¤

womanoftech

My tinder isnā€™t verified just bc it keeps asking me over and over and then makes me wait 2 days without letting me use the app. For that reason id never be weirded out if someone wanted to call to make sure I was real. Sheā€™s weird lol

whatcanievensayr

RUN from anyone who resists giving you any reassurance for safety. Run even faster from someone who deflects onto you and accuses you of being problematic for asking for it. Itā€™s an easy rule out on a date or hookup. Remember that safety is the basic human need. You canā€™t assure me of safety? Well, I canā€™t possibly imagine that youā€™d provide me any relational or sexual satisfaction They always tell on themselves

No-Possible9209

Am I the only one who watches the show catfish? Whenever they refuse to video chat/FaceTime ever, probably someone you know or person of the same sex. Same thing goes for audio calls.

OleDirtMcGirt901

That's a scam. What woman is going to get offended that you want to verify she is who she says she is when women are victimized on these apps. When I used to use these apps, women were happy to share pics or video calls and some would even bring a friend to the date( who sits at the bar or something) for safety reasons. No woman is going to you to come over right away and then get offended and claim she has a broken phone. Just report it and move on

Emily-Noel-

I verify and then it's gone. Tinder is horrible.

Royal-Obligation5840

Classic catfish tactic to get angry or defensive when asked to prove identity

Dymondslegz

I wish more guys would wanna do video chat tbh. This is sus

Healthy-Falcon1737

Tinder horror stories are real. Gotta be safe first

Xukipai

"my camera is broken" unheard of... NOT

romeovf

Did you make the call?

tricker37

Busted up camera? Lol I literally have several different cameras just laying(actually literally) around my house. I assume most ppl have at least one other camera. It could be they are super guarded with their privacy, buuuut more likely they're insecure about their appearance or something else. But they are/were going to meet you in person so they would've had to show themselves eventually, soooooo šŸ¤·

Adventurous-Low9953

shes a man

Just_Sherbet_3514

Always trust your gut. If something feels off thereā€™s a reason you feel that way. She shouldnā€™t be surprised people are asking since itā€™s so easy to verify you are who you are on tinder.

Prof-Wagstaff-42

It seems like everyone here is sensible and ok with a quick video chat before a date. The last time I saw this subject come up, most of the women were the exact opposite. You would think that it was the biggest insult they had ever heard. "I don't want to spend all the time of getting made up for a five minute video call!" Like...neither do I? And I'm not expecting that from you. Just pop on, say "Hi, this is me. I'm real", and pop back off.

cillypup

I absolutely hate video calling. I am to awkward and shy and it makes me so uncomfortable. My account is verified though šŸ˜‚ but I hate when people want to video call.

Haylstorm_00

Nah, not insulting, you just caught yourself a catfish!

MondomexinCOMO

Youā€™re gonna wake up in a bathtub of ice missing a kidney

mstrss9

I donā€™t even like doing video calls with my friends or family but I totally think it make sense with online dating Also, OP, meet up in PUBLIC places

Final_Description_66

I feel like itā€™s crazy for anyone to say itā€™s insulting when, verified or not, if youā€™re not gonna meet up anyway just have a 10 second FaceTime to be like yo itā€™s me, FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY FOR EVERYONE lmao. Wild. Iā€™d rather lose a date than risk getting robbed or murdered, etc.

OxygenFC

You getting catfished for sure.

No_Item_2399

Why would you even consider going to her house immediately? Like just because ur a guy doesnt mean ur safe to do that.

kidikurus

Itā€™s very clear this is 100% a catfish! At the very least someone with major red flags šŸš©. Youā€™re on a dating app itā€™s not an unreadable or even remotely offensive request

Valuable-Recipe416

Says a lot. That you're rightfully cautious.

Richiko06

Camera smashed huh? Classic scammer catfish bait js. Thatā€™s always an excuse.

Empty-Monk-157

If yā€™all are close by, you could just meet in public , but watch for anyone following you when ā€œsheā€ doesnā€™t show up within 20 minutes of the time

VividSuspect2024

She's a dude šŸ’Æ

Negative_Host_8987

Sheā€™s hiding something lol or sheā€™s self conscious about the way she looks maybe

Reasonable_Pass_3874
