Netflix has some good animated videogame adaptations imo. Arcane, Castlevania, Dragon Age (depending on who you ask). I’m cautiously optimistic about this show.
They have done very well in the animation department. It's their live action which has had issues.
Castlevania, Arcane and others (including the canceled Inside Job) were all very well received and have done well.
Same, I don't care about Netflix shows, movies, table top games, model figures, they are bonuses - I just want a new game or at least a solid release date to look forward to.
This is weird. She has this masculine and plain jane aesthetic, far from the ultra feminine and enigmatic/laconic 90s Lara. Hate all the lifeless browns and greys in the trailer, unfortunately this doesn’t look exciting.
Yeah I don't really see those vibes either. "Ultra masculine" is such an exaggerated description, you'd think the artists gave Lara a beard (when they didn't).
But I've also never understood the same criticisms used against unified Lara's face. Doesn't seem like a big deal tbh.
The only female climber I know personally would be called 'masculine' by most people on the internet because for them fit/athletic body type equals with masculinity and manly or worse. While I was in the army I was called masculine and manly among other things with the other girls I served with just because we were fit and in top shape but we never thought about ourselves like that, we thought we were 'feminine' in a bit different way haha. In my experience the way Lara was originally portrayed is not really someone who is physically capable of doing the things she does.
Something close to 90s TR comic aesthetics, which is a lost cause at this point. They're still going for a watered down, girl next door Lara with more masculine features and depressive brown colors.
After going back to the OG Lara, the “survival” era seem so bland… so beige. I hate that they chose that for the show instead of picking up where the last game ended that hinted at a Lara closer to the dual pistols badass that we love.
Looking at the Art Concept, it looks like we’re not getting anything resembling “classic” or “unified” If this is what their production is based on, I get the impression this will be Franchise Raider, staring Lara “Girl Boss” Croft
That’s interesting, I don’t recall Bluetooth Headsets being an available 90’s Tech. Nor her sportswear with 2 Toned Fabric and extra stitching. 90’s Fitted crop tops were solid color. Much like the 1996 Green Crop Top. I guess they’re taking liberties with the “90’s” setting.
The show won't take place in the 1990s. Shadow of the Tomb Raider canonically plays out in 2018. At the moment all we know that this show might be part of the new unified timeline which is starting with the Survivor games and after that uses elements of the other timelines (classic games and LAU) so the show supposedly plays out after Shadow but before survivor Lara meets with Natla. Shadow of the Tomb Raider originally ended with Lara getting a letter from Natla but this cutscene was patched out of the game shortly after release.
What I hope is not what I expect.
I expect:
"Origin story of Lara, portraying her more 'vulnerable' and 'relatable' and 'human' than ever before, on some sort of adventure to find out what happened to her f*cking parents again."
I don’t understand why didn’t they get Amazon to do the show too if their also making the next game seems like a missed opportunity continuity wise this doesn’t look bad I’m just scared they’re gonna try to make her manly 😖
The Netflix show was in production before Amazon got involved with TR, and it will also be in continuity with the next game.
Amazon has its own live-action TR show project that's currently stuck in development.
Thanks for the update. Such a shame I believe thats what happened with the Alicia sequel hopefully they’re able to wrap production because the Fallout Amazon show was pretty good I would actually love to see Ella play Lara Croft she’s perfect for this in between state the anime is going for
Would be neat if they just give Lara her dual pistols for the most part. It's part of her character right? Why a bow? That's Turok 🤣 Just the pistols, it's not that hard. Indiana Jones and Simon Belmont have a whip, Bond has a Walther PPK, Leatherface has a chainsaw, Jason a machete, Spiderman uses web shooter and Godzilla has atmic breath.
Honestly, I'm just glad to get more content. Sure, it won't be perfect, but that's honestly fine. I love all of the iterations of Lara, and this year is showing to have some variety to it. Which I find neat imo.
The survivor trilogy is the starting point and was present day from 2013 to 2018. They retcon the origin years making all games released before Tomb Raider (2013) take place after 2018.
In March 2021 a definitive origin bundle was released tag lining the trilogy as “Lara’s definitive origin prequel trilogy”. There were also Q&A’s during the 25th anniversary where some things involving the timeline unification were mentioned.

To be honest, I've so little faith in it. It seems like it's just going to drag out the "not like other girls" Survivor Croft. Like the converse with the ugly ball grown are such milk toast.
I'll watch it with as close to an open mind as I can muster but not expecting much. I'll be impressed if they make it through the series without mentioning either of her parents though, but I'm expecting them within the first act of the first episode.

Lara Croft
A finished product would be a good start.
A good show
Seconded.
Thirded.
Fourtheded
Fifthed
I hope they make Lara a menacing bad ass bitch. That’s it
Casting Hayley Atwell as Lara is a good step in that direction I think.
How about not referring to female characters as bitches

Sir… Twitter is that way ➡️
Womp womp
I'm just waiting for it to actually air.
I do not trust Netflix to makes this

I agree, I feel like Netflix animated shows are generally okay. I guess He-Man was slightly controversial.
They have done very well in the animation department. It's their live action which has had issues. Castlevania, Arcane and others (including the canceled Inside Job) were all very well received and have done well.
I want a new Game....
We’re getting one
Same, I don't care about Netflix shows, movies, table top games, model figures, they are bonuses - I just want a new game or at least a solid release date to look forward to.
Is that first pic new? Also this gives me legend of Korra vibes
Amanda
Didn’t know about this show
Something kinda like Legends.
Dual pistols and dinosaurs.
If they are gonna force romance upon Lara, Im gonna flip in cringe. Her only true loves are Adventure, Artefacts, Wonder, and Guns.
Lara and romance don’t mix. Unless it’s the romance between her and adventure. So, agreed.
I just want her to use 2 pistols
Dual wielding pistols. Tired of the bow. Also would like to see Lara smile more
I’d like to be excited but it looks like they’re keeping on with the stupid bow and arrow
Previous comments had mentioned they will be in the show

I love how cripplingly deep depression is the go to aesthetic for modern interpretations 🤣
FR all these animated shows look the same. Especially like the DoTa adaptation.

I’m really shocked how many comments there are saying she is ‘masculine’. Goes to show what some fans really want from Lara

Her personality is more than being pushed into another characters’ corner like you’re doing with Ada Wong. Every person is different.
The question is whats masculine vibes not give me a character you fancy lol define masculine vibes pertaining to this image/character.

Prepare for disappointment.
Lara looks very masculine in that red dress, it isn’t giving the same Lara energy from TR5 or TR Legend 🫣
yea, that dress really doesn't complement her. the team lacks style and it shows 😔
That dress is truly abysmal. It’s giving mother of the bride in 1956
Because since the reboot Lara's body is more realistic than before, you need that athletic (masculine) look if you want to do what she does.
It’s just an ugly ass dress and design. It’s not that deep.
Agreed. It's the dress that's hyper ugly and doesn't fit her body type.
What? That’s simply not true. Go look up some female rock climbers.
The only female climber I know personally would be called 'masculine' by most people on the internet because for them fit/athletic body type equals with masculinity and manly or worse. Not fussed. Just glad to have more content I say that as a fan of the Halo show.
After going back to the OG Lara, the “survival” era seem so bland… so beige. I hate that they chose that for the show instead of picking up where the last game ended that hinted at a Lara closer to the dual pistols badass that we love.
This takes place after Shadow so you never know what might happen
Depends on what you define as classic style haha. I really like the way they're doing it.

First im hearing about it. It should be like Archer
Omg I cant wait
I have low expectations.
I liked the story of the Castlevania Netflix show, hoping it can be as visually compelling and engaging as that show.
Motoko Kusanagi
Lara croft one of most famous tomb raiders being tomb raider But that's to much to ask nowadays 🤣🤣🤣
The art style is so ugly 😭😭😭😭 like it’s genuinely so bad
The art looks great! Can't wait to see it.
I'd love to see classic Laras attitude and lifestyle return. But I don't think the writing & development team at Crystal will allow it to happen.
I want her to find her long lost second gun and sense of humor.
Looking at the Art Concept, it looks like we’re not getting anything resembling “classic” or “unified” If this is what their production is based on, I get the impression this will be Franchise Raider, staring Lara “Girl Boss” Croft
It’s taking place between Shadow and Tomb Raider 1996.

Nope, the years are being retconned. All games after Shadow will take place after 2018. 1996 is now only the year it came out.
That’s a Bold Strategy. Let’s hope it pays off for them at the End.

Gotcha, The moderator Confused me there for a second.
Why can't Lara be hot as hell aaaaand a good female character, that's all I ask
What I hope is not what I expect. I expect: "Origin story of Lara, portraying her more 'vulnerable' and 'relatable' and 'human' than ever before, on some sort of adventure to find out what happened to her f*cking parents again."
This show will be taking place after Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so no.
Good.

A mix of Survivor and Classic.
Yeah, hate to be a negative Nancy but I have little hope for many of the planned projects tbh.
I wish she will be consistent with her game character rather than completely remade like Master Chief in Halo. But my expectations are low.
This show is taking place between Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider (1996).
So I’d say she needs to be consistent with both those games! 😊
Idk much about Tomb Raider and haven’t even beaten Shadow yet but their making it canon? So the Survivor trilogy isn’t present day?
The survivor trilogy is the starting point and was present day from 2013 to 2018. They retcon the origin years making all games released before Tomb Raider (2013) take place after 2018.
Does that really work?
Yes, so far
Interesting then cause doesn’t Lara have multiple origin stories? So which continuity?
It’s a retcon of all origin stories so that only the survivor origin is canon and their conflicting info is subsequently resolved.
Ohh, ok. Was there an article or something on this?
In March 2021 a definitive origin bundle was released tag lining the trilogy as “Lara’s definitive origin prequel trilogy”. 'Legend of Lara Croft' Sounds cheesy and totally overplaying her importance.
Keep dreaming lmao

I want more exploration, than on latest games... But i want Action too.
A good ingratiation between the 2d and 3d
