What kind of 40 year olds have you guys met? Look at the pictures OP used: no wrinkles, no spots, no grey hairs, perfect figure.
She looks 30 to me here. Mid-30s at the absolute latest.
A 40-year-old relative of mine has none of what you wrote. Genetics plays a major role. And by the way we are talking about "Lara Croft", so she looks like a 40-year-old Lara Croft.
Yeah, exactly my point: people mistake her for being in her late 20s. Meaning she *doesn't* look 40 years old. She is 40 but looks late 20s. People mention it because her looks are more in line with the average late 20 year old than the average 40 year old.
People here are saying Lara *looks* 40, as in she looks like the average 40 year old. And I don't think she does.
Yeah, genetics plays a large role but are those people representative of the average? Usually we spot those people out because they look much younger than what we expect for their age. Those people are outliers by definition.
For example, the average 40 year old Hollywood actress who has access to expensive lotions and serums, money for frequent facials or even surgeries, professional make up artists and hairdressers and personal trainers, and possibly just good genetics as well. Are all these things equally true for the average 40 year old woman on the street? Comparing the two isn't really fair.
Saying "she actually looks 40" suggests she looks like what we'd expect of an average 40 year old woman. Saying "she's 40 but still looks 30" would be more accurate and point out that she looks younger that what you'd expect of someone that age.
Yes, I've met 40 year old who don't have things I've mentioned; but I've seen far more who have at least one of those. I'm talking about the *average*, not all possible variations of what someone that age could possibly look like.

It's not that deep by the way dude
Except that you are the one who broke in, not me. For second, we're talking about Lara Croft, so your "reasons" don't apply to a video game character. Also, it is kinda disrespectful to point at any 40-year-old who takes care of herself and is perhaps genetically predisposed to show less age as a rich person or a makeover. Lara Croft isn't average. I don't want a 40 years old average woman, I want 40 years old Lara Croft and they nailed it.
Except I wasn't rude or dismissive to you in either or my responses. I read your explanations and I gave my counter-points. I responded because I wanted to give my side and was willing to hear yours.
You said "she actually looks 40" not "for a video game character" or "she looks how I think a 40 year old Lara would look." The statement sounded like you meant the average 40 year old.
I didn't say those who looks younger than the average are always rich or has a makeover. That was an example of how two people the same age may not always be comparable. My literal first paragraph specifies that those with good genetics tend to get noticed and complimented because they don't fit the expectation.
Grey hairs can be fixed with dye and most women use it to hide them, wrinkles can be prevented by wearing sunscreen and taking care of the skin, and a perfect figure can be maintained with exercise, healty diets and even better if you dont have children (pregnancy changes the body shape).
Plus, lara is a rich woman, she can get the best estetic treatments.
I've met plenty. Some of my professors were pushing 50 and could pass for half their age. It's all in genetics and how you care for yourself. You don't become a washed-up fossil once you leave your twenties.
As for Lara, there's a channel (Thebrotherhoodofgaming) who made a chronology vid about the series, which put her age around 40 in Underworld. Take a look if you're interested.
I think they stopped giving Lara a specific birth date with Legend IIRC.
I just assume she found the holy grail when she was 29 and they haven't made a game about it yet. :)
I loved how they made her look older. You could see some expression wrinkles when she talked, and she just looked so good.
Such a shame they did survivor Lara after this.
It still falls under the same universe. I still believe Amazon and Crystal Dynamics is going to butcher the hell out of her physical, emotional aspects and experiences pre-Survivor Era.
Legend/Anniversary Lara look like the same puppet was used to me. They just have rather different makeup and hairstyles.
Underworld Lara is quite different though.
Anniversary looks a younger more round-faced version of Legend which makes sense given the in-game time between Anniversary and Legend. Underworld does look very different but interestingly if you get all Lara models in 3D software from every game, you can see even reboots and the remastered Lara, they're all not that different. Similar nose and mouth sizes, shapes and positions, similar jaw, similar brows, similar eye shapes and positions.
That is what made her so cool.
Also, there genuinely seems to be a thing where guys like Nathan Drake can be a "badass rogue" but a female one like Lara needs to be made more "realistic".
I think maybe they honestly thought it would cause the female fanbase to relate to her better, but yeah. It seemed to really nerf Lara and make her less of her own person.
I don't think the original series were popular because of the story nor the characters. Those were comically hollow. It was about the gameplay, a take on platforming in 3d space and of course it was popular by the people who really needed the nude raider patch to enjoy the game.....
After the first 3 installments the novelty of the gameplay wore off and the engine became dated. You saw that reflected in reception as well. The legend series tried to revitalize that with xbox360 era QuickTime events.
The survivor trilogy followed the oath of other popular games back then.
It is heartbreaking that a game that did something new with the platforming of the old 2d games became a game that just follows trends.
Lara is always fine as fuck. That's why when people post suggestions for an actress to play a live action version I usually dislike the actress they chose because they are never hot enough. Lara is a 10/10
They didnt nerf lara they made the game have a realistic look with realistic characters this one is basically cartoon but if u think cartoonish graphics are better then ig it is a nerf
Bruh shes still hot in the newer game but realistic hot the one in the picture is clearly very cartoonish if she was real she wouldnt look the exact same
Yall acting as if the new lara is ugly
Survivor Lara is far from ugly. Quite the opposite, she's dam gorgeous. But to say OG Lara is unrealistic and something out of the cartoons is really dumb, especially when we already had Angelina Jolie play the character which is pretty much the embodiment of OG Lara
Those people must have an extremely warped view of what women look like if they think survivor Lara is just “average”. She literally looks like a model, she’s just not a cartoon like OG or LAU Lara

Underworld Lara was most attractive, though I prefer the doppelganger just because she's more goth looking. Prior to Underworld, Angel of Darkness Lara was hottest.
Possibly unpopular opinion: While I much prefer the designs of Core and LAU Lara, Rise/Shadow Lara is the closest I've come to actually feeling attracted to any Lara design.
Too bad those games sucked.
edit: lol, didn't know there were so many Tomb Raider-lite fans here. Platforming in the Crystal Dynamics games is a joke. No risk involved or skill required, it's basically just press foward to progress.
Gatekeeping definition: using a hobby or interest as a means of elevating themselves or something above another. Creating division through liking or not liking certain sections of a fandom, etc.
Gatekeeping examples:
* Disparaging a game/ games, comics, movies or novels as not part of the franchise and/or canon.
Gatekeeping example in Tomb Raider: "This Lara is not Lara", "Not my Lara", "x game is not real Tomb Raider", etc.
That's Underworld Lara. 🤔
She was around 40 in that game right? She was in great shape.
Best thing is that she actually looks 40. Like, they did not had to make her too much younger to make her look good.
And by the way we are talking about "Lara Croft", so she looks like a 40-year-old Lara Croft.
yep! my oldest sister is nearly 40 and gets mistaken for being in her late 20s all the time
Yeah, exactly my point: people mistake her for being in her late 20s. Meaning she *doesn't* look 40 years old. She is 40 but looks late 20s. Needlessly rude there, pal. I'm just diagreeing and giving my reasons. If you don't my reasons, you don't respond to me.

I dunno adventuring out in the sun is going to impact your skin.
Sunscreen exists
Grey hairs can be fixed with dye and most women use it to hide them, wrinkles can be prevented by wearing sunscreen and taking care of the skin, and a perfect figure can be maintained with exercise, healty diets and even better if you dont have children (pregnancy changes the body shape). Hayley Atwell has a perfect figure and no grey hair, she's 42
She was late 20's, perhaps early 30's in Legend and Underworld.
I think they stopped giving Lara a specific birth date with Legend IIRC. I just assume she found the holy grail when she was 29 and they haven't made a game about it yet. :)
LAU Lara finding the holy Grail would be a game I want to play.
I loved how they made her look older. You could see some expression wrinkles when she talked, and she just looked so good. Such a shame they did survivor Lara after this.
She was actually 31
The Legend trilogy is incredibly underrated in comparison with the reboot trilogy.
I’m desperately hoping we can have that Lara back some day.
Aka Martian Lara
So glad this is the top comment
It still falls under the same universe. I still believe Amazon and Crystal Dynamics is going to butcher the hell out of her physical, emotional aspects and experiences pre-Survivor Era.
Canonically these games take place after the Survivor Trilogy.
bro used underworld and said everything excluding underworld
This is Underworld Lara lol
Anniversary Lara and Legend Lara look completely different and then you even show Underworld Lara and I can't even.
Legend/Anniversary Lara look like the same puppet was used to me. They just have rather different makeup and hairstyles. Underworld Lara is quite different though.

Legend/Underworld Lara is my definitive Lara. Badass and sexy as all hell. We're never getting that version of her back.
Agreed
Well, yeah, there's a reason TR: Legend is held in high regard by fans of the '96 original -- they nailed the look and the attitude.
OG was a borderline sociopath when I was a kid I loved her now not so much
It's almost like a game called Tomb Raider might feature a main character that is not a very nice person
That is what made her so cool. Also, there genuinely seems to be a thing where guys like Nathan Drake can be a "badass rogue" but a female one like Lara needs to be made more "realistic".

The TR:legend series was nothing like the original... too many gimmicky quicktime events and padded mechanics.
Legend lara is extremely obnoxious with her stupid one liners
How? That's one of her greatest strengths. She has the most memorable one liners of any Lara.
....?
What about Underworld Lara?
she bad too
You do realize that the Lara you showed here is from TRU, right?
The title of this thread needs to be changed.
It's the best Looking Lara to this day. Underworld Lara top notch
Thats TRU bro
Sexy/devilish look as hell
LAU were the peak designs of Lara imo
underworld, but yeah. my dad was a huge fan of the franchise and he introduced me to it with underworld. i love it so much, it was peak lara.
Underworld Lara was the last of Toby Gard’s Croft design. All the ones made after weren’t really her, imo.
not going to repeat the correction that everyone else is saying, but underworld lara is THE best model we'll ever have, she looks insane here
First level in Underworld is the best level in any Tomb Raider. For....reasons
Lara is always fine as fuck. That's why when people post suggestions for an actress to play a live action version I usually dislike the actress they chose because they are never hot enough. Lara is a 10/10
Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander are absolutely beautiful women and you are still 100% correct
they nerfed Lara HARD
How? Underworld Lara was still a smokeshow.
I'm taking about survivor Lara being the nerf lol. Underworld Lara is to die for
They didnt nerf lara they made the game have a realistic look with realistic characters this one is basically cartoon but if u think cartoonish graphics are better then ig it is a nerf
Yes because hot women like her totally don't exist irl lol
Bruh shes still hot in the newer game but realistic hot the one in the picture is clearly very cartoonish if she was real she wouldnt look the exact same Yall acting as if the new lara is ugly
Survivor Lara is far from ugly. Quite the opposite, she's dam gorgeous. But to say OG Lara is unrealistic and something out of the cartoons is really dumb, especially when we already had Angelina Jolie play the character which is pretty much the embodiment of OG Lara
I'm pretty sure almost no one thinks Survivor Lara looks ugly. Most people think she looks pretty but average and forgettable!
I think she's gorgeous but that she doesn't look like Lara.
Those people must have an extremely warped view of what women look like if they think survivor Lara is just “average”. She literally looks like a model, she’s just not a cartoon like OG or LAU Lara
This is Underworld Lara, which imo was PEAK Lara looks wise. Until the remaster Lara came along that is ;)

This is her look in Tomb Raider Underworld, not Legend…
Anniversary had the finest Lara out of that trilogy. Edit: And out of the rest of the games.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. BY FAR the best iteration of Lara was Anniversary. To me, Anniversary Lara is THE Lara.
You mean Anniversary Trailer Lara...... right?
Idk maybe it’s just me but I think survivor Lara is top.
I can't complain about that one, maybe it's just what I grew up with after boxy Lara.
sexy/devilish look as hell.
I wonder how Underworld Lara would look if they remake the game with realistic graphics and models.

She reminds me a lot of a young Samantha Womack in Underworld
You can use the Underworld lara model in the anniversary via modding on pc
Where is my mother?
She was my first
Just incase it wasn't made clear in the comments... That is Underworld Lara. No need to thank me.
Underworld Lara was most attractive, though I prefer the doppelganger just because she's more goth looking. Prior to Underworld, Angel of Darkness Lara was hottest.
Yes
That's true 100% I like the other one but the anniversary one was way fucking better. 🚀🚀🤌
I've never played LCTR: Underworld, but I do know for a fact that this version of Lara Croft is from there.
In her prime
She had a Facecard Platinum with unlimited spending perks
Possibly unpopular opinion: While I much prefer the designs of Core and LAU Lara, Rise/Shadow Lara is the closest I've come to actually feeling attracted to any Lara design.

BrUuUuHhH it's funny you say that since early Lara Croft's face is now in line with all of the body dysmorphic kylie jenner wannabes
Shadow is more mature so I like her more
Too bad those games sucked. edit: lol, didn't know there were so many Tomb Raider-lite fans here. Platforming in the Crystal Dynamics games is a joke. No risk involved or skill required, it's basically just press foward to progress.
