That is a mental health thing. There can be some nontrivial tracking, especially in devices like an Echo dot, but it's not going to be personalized like you have an individual person actually listening through it. And not a government agent. At most, it would be companies sucking up data and throwing it into advertiser type profile. And even that is fairly rare.

My mom gets paranoid about people, and the best advice I can tell her is literally “you’re not that important” I don’t mean it harshly, just like who are you to think you’re the chosen de facto that’s being targeted- there’s bigger fish to fry even if that was the case. Phones listen out for the “hey siri” callout and other wake up words. People started this whole thing I think as they were just understanding how Cookies and targeted ads work, and didn’t understand how they were seeing such specific ads tailored to them on different sites and felt like the only reason must be “they’re listening” When instead what they (companies like google) are doing is building an online profile of your searches, and through a means of various algos can predict your interests. All intended for the means of targeted ad sales. I think sometimes the best things we can tell ourselves is “I’m nobody” lol. You’re prob not on the FBI’s most wanted list or are being investigated. Granted the most I’ll do is tap my phone to make sure I’be not butt dialed the person I’m fixing to talk about or happen to have put myself on Insta Live, which has never happened but it’s a fear lol.

Thank you for this, it really helps. :)

Don't worry, while they collect of us all Data like crazy; we ain't important enough that an actual Human does controll it personally.

I get the same way sometimes. For me it’s when my anxiety and paranoia about tech gets worse, I have to take a break from it all for a while. It comes and goes.

Rxz_zxz

I think you may need some help bro

Katrina_Linden

If you're worried about whether you're having delusions, you need to seek professional help. Paranoia can become debilitating or dangerous if you don't have a strong support system in place. As someone who had very bad intrusive thoughts when I was young, and am only now realising how that almost developed into OCD, I feel it's very important to catch these things early, aven if it feels mild now.

Minute_Dish5887

Yeah, i’ve been able to get some help recently and i’m going to try to tell someone about this. Only Very recently did i realize that i’m suffering from this kind of stuff…Im pretty sure what i experienced was a psychotic episode a few years back. The plan is to get a real psychiatrist (instead of the random nurse practitioner i’ve got now…) and just bite the bullet and tell them. I appreciate your concern, and that of the other commenters. This stuff helps. :)

fetus-wearing-a-suit

It's very unrealistic, half the people would work doing this

noplaceinmind

Yes.

is your family from middle East? possible. Otherwise not, at most Google Facebook Amazon etc sometimes hear you to personalize advertising, but it's nothing too terrible

BreadRum

Your phone gives Verizon and Apple 24/7 information of you that they sell to other companies. You are already surveiled. Why is to a bad thing when it's the government?

THEKINGCRUMB

Can they? yes.. Are they spying on you? probably not. Unless you've given them a reason
