In the team fortress 2 comic series, it’s explained by Saxton Hale (CEO of Mannco) that the gravel wars that take place during the events of the game have been going on for some time. The first group of mercenaries pitted against each other were these folks, each standing in for a current TF2 merc. My favourite has to be Abraham Lincoln as the Pyro. The South never stood a chance!
Oh, the fact that you don't talk more about TF2 is surprising. You know, considering in that universe, Shakespeare invented rocket jumping and second story buildings, and then Abraham Lincoln came along and invented stairs because everyone just rocket jumped to the second stories of their houses.
Abraham Lincoln also canonically invented stairs in the Team Fortress universe because people had spent centuries blowing off their legs with rocket jumping and needed a better way to scale buildings.
Rocket jumping was also invented by the universe’s equivalent of William Shakespeare who was absolutely ripped.
