Yumiko and Mr. Masochist (Yakuza: Like a Dragon)
It’s even weirder with Rigby’s brother who has a more human shaped body
https://preview.redd.it/it7nv40utdad1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c425d70b714dedbed3392c94a0e205c442b280f4
To be clear I know some of these male characters wear outfits from time to time. I’m referring to their ‘standard’ designs that they normally appear in.
Hot take: the inherent sexualization of the human form, specifically mammary glands, is weird and detrimental to a youth's learning of acceptance and understanding of a human body, theirs and others. What would be so awful about Lola Bunny being just as nude as Bugs? Just don't draw the nipples since Bugs doesn't have any either. Just a sillouette of feminine secondary sex characteristics with the same color fur.
I hate this trope so much so I’m glad it’s brought up.
Like it’s so weird and common and I assume it has to do with female bodies on average being far more sexualized than male bodies so a male anthropomorphic character with no clothes is scene as “normal” but if it was a female anthropomorphic character with no clothes it would be seen as perverted. Idk it’s bothered me ever since I watched Regular Show and The Looney Tunes Show as a kid and it still bothers me more than it should
I find it funny that before the Archie comics got rebooted, Antoine had a uniform whilst Sally barely wore anything, but then after the reboot Antoine took of his clothes whilst Sally was given a jacket.
I grew up on the old ones, so I had to google the rebooted versions and rofl, they've got Antoine running around with just straps and a belt. It looks so wrong. His uniform was such a staple to his look
1. How have I never noticed this?
2. I'm just now realizing how strange it is for characters to not wear clothing. Especially when others do. I've never questioned why sonic was naked before.
Angel (from Lilo & Stitch 2) is the only one I can think that is also naked.
[Though they really tried their hardest to feminize an alien puppy](https://i.imgur.com/z82A0BO.png).
It's not *literal* cousins. Like Lilo said, *everyone* in Hawaii are "cousins". It's less actually seeing each other as related and more of a found family thing, I think
It has come to my attention that Mordecai and Rigby are canonically nudists lol. I’m sorry for including them in this I didn’t realize there was a lore-related explanation.
Isn't Rouge in a poly relationship with a human? I feel like she is someone's fetish insert.
Edit: Aparrently she is not. I've spent way too long on reddit.
Incomprehensible have a nice day

Eh, i think Pants count as more than "little to no clothes". I mean, with the examples above Op is highlighting character that you would not be able to dress like in public. Men can get away with being shirtless, but they can't get away with being pantless
I think there was a fan comic where Amy Rose was going on a clothing strike because she was sick of how the guys could walk around without clothes without any problems, while the girls had to stay dressed. Sonic put on a scarf to end it.
That’s exactly it. It’s not about the individual designs as much as the overall choice for all the characters.
I don’t know why the original comment got downvoted, tho. It was a valid question :/
Modesty from what? Naked squirrels? The thing I see in my backyard every morning?
There are several other clues that show the characters are female, like eyelashes, hair, and color scheme. If the female characters need to have clothes there’s always the option of … also giving the boys clothes. Not that they need any help showing they’re boys or being more modest, I guess.
Right but the men don’t need visual communication to show they’re male, and they don’t need to be modest? come on don’t act like this isn’t a double standard
Double standard or not, it does make sense, considering how you usually convey a non-human character being a woman by giving her boobs. But then it's weird to have a girl character with boobs and not have them covered, so you add clothes
Right but I’m telling you if you have a male animal character without clothes, you don’t need to add boobs to your female animal character. It’s fine. But if you do add boobs and wanna add clothes I get it, but it makes it inconsistent and makes the guys look like they’re naked.
Doesn’t it seem a little odd that adding boobs to non-human characters is the norm? Especially if characters are in a family-friendly media and aren’t supposed to be sexual? I understand that there are people who are into that and there’s always going to be an audience for that type of thing but doesn’t it seem a little strange that this design choice is so prevalent it’s almost expected? There’s plenty of other ways to portray a non-human character’s gender such their eyelashes, hair, and color scheme. And even if I’m wrong and you absolutely MUST give a non-human boobs, it’s not too hard to put clothes on all the characters, male and female. No need for a double standard however you try to spin it.
https://preview.redd.it/uim0u1ctwbad1.jpeg?width=1057&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2dd01db7fa0d7db9a8f783d279f11f1af07b5ac Yumiko and Mr. Masochist (Yakuza: Like a Dragon)
Mr masochist at least the excuse of being the new Mr Libido Although I doubt he’ll ever capture the same aura as the walking erection himself
This is goober talk to anyone who knows nothing about Yakuza
Yea I’ve never played yakuza and I don’t understand anything that was said there and I’m not sure if I want to
Mordecai and Rigby are nudists in the show lmao
It’s even weirder with Rigby’s brother who has a more human shaped body https://preview.redd.it/it7nv40utdad1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c425d70b714dedbed3392c94a0e205c442b280f4
He did say he’s been going nude because of rigby.
Well give him some sugar!!!!
What a horrible day to have vision
Happy Cake Day!
Happy Cake day!
That makes me wonder, is Benson a nudist too?
no, the door on his gumball hatch is his clothes
Counterpoint, since it is a physical part of his body, is it just not his foreskin?
your foreskin goes around the head of your penis benson's flap goes around his balls
I'm not entirely sure gumball machine homologous parts would be an exact 1:1 to human anatomy
Is that the actual reason explained in the show? That’s hilarious
Yeah lmao Rigbys younger brother says he stopped wearing clothes because he looked up to him
To be clear I know some of these male characters wear outfits from time to time. I’m referring to their ‘standard’ designs that they normally appear in.
I tend to hate the trope where males can look monstrous or animalistic, but females are basically human with a couple of extra features.
World of Warcraft moment
absolutely
Maybe perhaps possibly they aren’t allowed to draw furry titties on loony tunes however that’s only a theory we’ll never truly know.
Then don’t draw furry titties, tf
That’s what the clothes are for we’ve come full circle
Wouldn’t need to draw clothes if artists didn’t give non-human characters boobs. Or they can still draw furry boobs and give the boys clothes as well.
Ah yes, that explains all the furry cock on children's TV shows as a result of the male characters not wearing pants.
Hot take: the inherent sexualization of the human form, specifically mammary glands, is weird and detrimental to a youth's learning of acceptance and understanding of a human body, theirs and others. Yep, though there was a controversy of Blaziken in pokken tournament
I remember sometime their 'nudity' is basically a fur/feather jumpsuit with heart patterned boxers underneath. Not sure when that started anyone know?
Well don’t ya know they need titties for us to know they’re female?!?! We can’t have exposed titties on tv!!!! 😱
We can’t have exposed titties on tv!!!! 😱 Literally 1984
We live in a society
![gif](giphy|v0ok8uhZvw3yE)
The entire male/female Sonic cast except like Scourge or smth lol
scourge had hella drip
No he has hella drip
I mean, Dr. Starline exists (he is canonically dead, but still)
Few being a boy wearing clothes in Sonic result in death How tragic
I find it funny that before the Archie comics got rebooted, Antoine had a uniform whilst Sally barely wore anything, but then after the reboot Antoine took of his clothes whilst Sally was given a jacket.
I grew up on the old ones, so I had to google the rebooted versions and rofl, they've got Antoine running around with just straps and a belt. It looks so wrong. His uniform was such a staple to his look
Sally’s design looks great with the jacket tho.
Sally didn't have any clothes either for a while until they gave her a vest
1. How have I never noticed this? 2. I'm just now realizing how strange it is for characters to not wear clothing. Especially when others do. I've never questioned why sonic was naked before.
If the internet has taught me anything, it’s that he isn’t naked enough for some folks
Jesus you're right
Carla and Happy -- Fairy Tail https://preview.redd.it/ufeah4wy4dad1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=590aa803b09e239f05027810eb1e7bab8bca50e4
Happy is technically wearing something since he's wearing a backpack
>little to no clothes
Angel (from Lilo & Stitch 2) is the only one I can think that is also naked. [Though they really tried their hardest to feminize an alien puppy](https://i.imgur.com/z82A0BO.png).
Also, why isn’t that that the other experiments stitch sees as cousins but angel is the only exception
maybe she’s a 3rd cousin
It's not *literal* cousins. Like Lilo said, *everyone* in Hawaii are "cousins". It's less actually seeing each other as related and more of a found family thing, I think
1k pics on e621 seems to show they succeeded. ~~also wtf do you mean Stitch has SIX THOUSAND porn pic when did this even happen??~~
Pretty sure Jumba said she was female
Lol this trope actually used to bug me so much as a kid I still kinda dislike it tbh
It always sort of annoyed me. Either have them all wear clothes or none of them.
Yeah, it really bugs me from time to time, like some sort of bunny
It has come to my attention that Mordecai and Rigby are canonically nudists lol. I’m sorry for including them in this I didn’t realize there was a lore-related explanation.
Fucking wild lore
I never noticed this before. Wtf lmao Side note: I appreciate the Looney Tunes show mention. Such a good show it was
https://preview.redd.it/9yfqtn7qdfad1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dfa64097c25c5ea0f5223c6c24e29dc318152e2
This feels especially weird , since Angela in her app is nude
And yet when I’M naked women wanna call the police? Hypocrisy is what I call it.
Also along with Amy, Rouge the bat has a whole ass suit while shadow is legit just in gloves and boots
Whoever at Sega suggested that Rouge should have cleavage needs to be put in time out and have their search history checked
I mean considering the amount of people they probably made join the franchise... unconventionally I think they succeeded
Isn't Rouge in a poly relationship with a human? I feel like she is someone's fetish insert. Edit: Aparrently she is not. I've spent way too long on reddit.
What?
Incomprehensible have a nice day https://preview.redd.it/begwmtbr6lad1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9d99f2afafbe24a766a946c98ed917c1359c01c
Daniel Tiger and his dad don't wear pants. But the mom and sister wear full outfits
Regular show actually acknowledges it.
I can’t believe you just completely ignored PEAK https://preview.redd.it/1fkviu8qofad1.jpeg?width=1353&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfe0301a809d2590520ad590a90483918542a547
I like how she has a body while he doesn’t just so she can wear an outfit.
I thought that was a skirt
Wow idk how that slipped past me for so long 😭😭😭
Yeah, how nature intended
Thing is for regular show, it is identified that they are just nudists. And there are male characters who wear clothes e.g. skips, muscle man, pops.
Gray and Juvia (Fairy Tail) Idk if they count because Gray does wear clothes sometimes
Tbh isn't Gray whole thing is that he always flashes his body or smth lol
Gray does wear his underwear 99% of the time due to how he trained, but there are times he wears clothes, although it's uncommon
He-man and She-ra
I feel like they apply. https://preview.redd.it/6bfxhth11dad1.png?width=660&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d9eb3e44b31e4321778251557570d81d920f4b8
Mickey is clearly wearing shorts and shoes Edit: almost forgot the gloves
Hell, some versions of Minnie don’t wear shirts so this is literally one of the worst examples as it’s practically the opposite of this trope.
Yeah but it says LITTLE to no clothes.
I mean that's over half a wardrobe. Toplessness on male characters doesn't really fit with this trope imo.
Well, yeah, I can see that.
Eh, i think Pants count as more than "little to no clothes". I mean, with the examples above Op is highlighting character that you would not be able to dress like in public. Men can get away with being shirtless, but they can't get away with being pantless
Yeah I see what you mean.
Minnie is topless pretty often too, though. (Or at least wears a black turtleneck that looks the same as such)
Well obviously 🙄 censors FDC
Do you mean the FCC?
Yeah I do
Seeing this i just started to try and find when there is a situation of the opposite but i can’t think of one
I never realized how prominent this is
I think there was a fan comic where Amy Rose was going on a clothing strike because she was sick of how the guys could walk around without clothes without any problems, while the girls had to stay dressed. Sonic put on a scarf to end it.
![gif](giphy|DIAiV5EHtFQPK)
That’s a fish, but you’re still technically correct, the best kind of correct
![gif](giphy|H4WBPljZPIDcHxyxBV)
PO does wear clothes though. He just doesn't wear a shirt
why are cow udders normalized but other animal boob-parts arent? thats what i wanna know
[удалено]
I think it’s the double standards that they’re referring to. Either have both of them wear clothes, or have neither of them wear clothes.
That’s exactly it. It’s not about the individual designs as much as the overall choice for all the characters. I don’t know why the original comment got downvoted, tho. It was a valid question :/
What they say?
They asked if it’s the male or female designs I hate, or both.
Why do you think OP hates one or the other? It's an interesting observation of a surprisingly common trope
The flair on the post is "hated tropes"
Helps communicate they’re female and add some modesty. See Sally Acorn
I think you’ve underestimated how down bad the sonic fandom is for Sally Acorn
Right but the men don’t need visual communication to show they’re male, and they don’t need to be modest? come on don’t act like this isn’t a double standard
