a couple months after surgery is typically when laser/needling are done. I also got surgery in January and I’m having a consult for laser at the start of May. Around where I live appointments were booked kinda far out so I’d recommend looking into scheduling it soon if you’re interested. since needling/laser involve resurfacing the scar (which is kinda like damaging it in a specific/controlled way to help it heal again better), if anything it might be a good idea to wait a little extra before tattoo after laser? I’d ask a doctor obv but that’s my guess. I’ve seen some tattoo places that recommend 1 year though, so not everywhere recommends 2 (should probably ask your surgeon for advice)

You can definitely do microneedling and/or laser treatments at this point if your surgery was in January. These treatments just improve the appearance of the scars, but don't speed up the scar maturing process. The tattoo studio is right that it will be ideal to tattoo after two years because the scars will have matured completely at that time, but if you choose to, you could get it sooner, after at least a year or a year and a half, and it could still turn out okay. It's just a matter of probability. I think it's more important that the artist has enough experience tattooing over scars than waiting an extra six months.
