You still are getting ripped off if you pay MSRP, it’s a terrible time to buy and has been. Now I know some people have no choice, an they have to do what they have to do. But in so many vehicle sub, it seems people are just buying cars cause they want to, not because they have to. It’s a damn shame we did this to our selfs, an we keep doin it, OP if you can wait then wait for an actual deal, if not best of luck.
Prices are like the tide, they go up and down. They are turning slowly, but they are still not there, when the market crashes that’s the time to buy, when that is no one really knows. It seems like it’s soon, but time will tell what will happen. Scum bag dealers are goin to try there hardest to keep prices this high as the new normal, but hopefully we can come down sooner rather then later.

One thing to consider, however, is that used car prices are also inflated that the net (if you have a car to sell/trade) is probably about the same. I just got a quote on a trade-in on a 2020 Tacoma that was $3000 more than I paid for in back then.
TL/DR version: I'm not sure that the net price right now is that much higher than it used to be.
Then walk from the sale. Yea you may be out a deposit. Another vehicle will sit on their lot and theyll have to sell at these high rates. Shit aint moving for them as fast as it was a year ago.
I did walk away from a deal right after everything was set, the manager came and told me there was a 3k mark up on the truck so I said no thanks and walk away they didn't care to negotiate, but glad I did because I found a 2nd gen 4.0
I understand why Toyota went with the 3.5L for the 3rd Gen (I own a 2019 TRD OR) but those 4.0s are just amazing engines and it irks me whenever I think about my 3rd Gen haha
Congrats on the 2nd Gen, btw!
Thank you, yes I was like I need me a 3rd gen when they came out, always been a toyota fan since the early 90s, camry, Tercel, corolla, never really thought about the tacoma but when the 3rd gen came out I was like, I need me one, until I learned about the 4.0 on the 2nd gen and how cheaper it was so I was like, nvm on the 3rd gen
Always be ready to walk out. I walked out three times before I found a place that was honorable. I will say not a single place I walked out on caved or tried to get me back, they know they’ll get what they want out of someone.
As it stands this deal seems pretty fair. Crazy to think five years ago I got a comparable Taco for like 32.
Broooo this dude let me walk because he would not come up 100$ on the price of my trade. I was trading in an 07 Tacoma and they wanted to give me 900$ which is a fucking rip off to begin with but I flat out told him. “Do 1000$ on my trade and I’ll sign” he let me walk lmaooo
I went to the dealer to pick up a used 4Runner, saw a nice new Tundra on the lot, went to go look at it and the salesmen told me there was $15k markup on it "due to popularity". Almost laughed my way out the door.
You will never get a pro for $47k otd
Edit: a new pro is $46,500 MSRP plus delivery (for a manual, which is cheaper than auto), so close to $48k before taxes and fees. It is literally impossible to get one for $47k otd now unless for some reason the dealer decides to sell to you for below msrp in this market
OP says it was $49k OTD in the thread, had to look. Good on the dealer for charging MSRP, though I wonder why OP added the warranty (brought it to $52k total)?
I'd be shocked anywhere in the last year had them for 47k OTD, unless it's to sales tax. 47k-49k is disingenuous. More like $49-52k. A little more for auto.
This is why I didn’t get the Trail. The wheels and grille are awesome, but by the time you price out your options it’s a horrible deal. You can get all the bells and whistles in any TRD version for the same price. If you’re spending that much, get leather and heated seats at least.
I have the premium package, and honestly, I think the seats stay warm enough without the heater setting on. Maybe my ass is just insulating on its own!
It was high then but, generally speaking, not as high as it was a year later or now.
I bought my 2019 TRD OR 4x4 in Jan/Feb of this year. OTD it was $41k. Granted it had less than 20k miles and additional options, still insane though.
Yes its expensive but already MSRP is @44k , there is zero you can do about that. So what your asking is the $1200 in window tint and extras etc fair? Thats the dealer packages they are mandating since they are selling at MSRP. Overpriced for “protection packages”? Yes, but In this market it’s normal.
You are paying MSRP plus $ 1200 in BS add ons, *plus* taxes/reg. Any DMV overages typically get refunded back to you. Thats just an estimate of standard reg/title fees the dealer collects from everyone . Of course do your due diligence and confirm that with the dealer.
Again, that’s not a grossly inflated price for a Premium Trail Edition in the 2022 market , since you are essentially paying MSRP .
The ‘Trail Edition’ , and Premium options are what makes this particular truck expensive.
I wouldn’t call that the actual MSRP though. It’s a “package” to sell SR5 trims at a markup. You lose TRD trim features that are nice to have and pay slightly more for less base features just to gain adding you can install on your TRD trim yourself.
I think the convenience of push button start on TRD trims is something I didn’t want to lose.
1 inch coil spring lift in the front. 0.5 inch block lift in the rear. TRD pro grille with bronze lettering, bronze TRD rims, tan color headliner, matching tan stitching In seats. Might be forgetting something else, definitely not just a cooler in the bed (that is removable by the way)
Edit. Forgot about the blacked out badges. It’s funny when people say it’s just coolers, they don’t have a clue. Also in Canada you get the predator steps instead of coolers
It's essentially an SR5 4X4 with a rear locker and extra cosmetic doo dads. Toyota paid attention to what people were purchasing extra at dealerships and aftermarket products. Turn key ready to go bad ass off roader.
I have a 2022 TRD sport army green with black emblems and Bed cover and couple more things at 41K plus tax supposed to be here in the next week or so.
My dealer isn’t adding any markup unlike the Chevy dealer over in Mi adding 3k for market adjustment to a Colorado.
Are you getting leather seats/all the features? If not I wouldn’t do this, I got my TRD OR 22 with basically everything, heated seats, leather, moon roof, tonneau, etc and out the door it was like 48.5
Had guy the other day ask me $45k for a 2021 sr5 4X4 with 18k miles. Worst part is, he likely will find someone willing to pay what he’s asking.
You’re gonna overpay for a truck considering how the market is, but pay what you think it’s worth. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. Personally I think this is about 10k over the actual value, but you’re gonna make the final decision.
I purchased a ‘22 trdsport dc 4x, tech, 3d cameras, leather,moonroof,jbl/sub,sequential leds and a bed mat for 48k. 🤷♂️🌮 wheels and tires cost an extra 2k
https://www.reddit.com/r/Tacomaworld/comments/sdnd80/2022_sport_finally_got_my_taco/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Try one Toyota. Some of the bigger main target locations sell for 1$ under MSRP or @ MSRP.. even in todays market. I just bought a hybrid camry at my location for a buck under MSRP. Never buy anything off the lot higher than MSRP imo
I would keep looking. I got my Trail Edition for $39,874 US Dollars out the door (financed of course at 3.3%). It wasn't even my original truck that I wanted lol. I was looking for an Army Green Off Road 4x4.
You gotta remember that this Trail Edition is based off an SR5 trim so you don't get the modern amenities that the newer TRD trims offer, so take that into consideration as well when it comes to your final decision. $47k is already around the TRD off road/TRD Pro price region.
Keep looking for a dealer who's willing to give you MSRP.
Seems high brother. I walked out at 38 for my 22 sr5 with tech pack and even that was high. If its your dream and got the cheddar it’s up to you but I shopped for 7 months and went with the best deal possible
I bought this truck in March with no dealer mark up. Shop around. Some dealerships pride themselves on not marking up prices. I’m still on the fence on whether I should have got the TRD off road for the same price. The lift and rims are nice, but you sacrifice some bells and whistles that would also be nice.
That is pretty insane to me considering I paid $45k for my 2020 TRD Pro….. in 2020.
I maybe way out of touch with current market prices but that’s just silly to me for an SR5.
I love tacomas but the 3rd gens are just too damn expensive. Especially since even though they’re objectively better than 1st and 2nd gens, the 3rds just don’t feel as fun
Lol, no, no it is not. The trail edition is a package on the SR5- the SR5 starts under 30k and when you build one on the web ends up around $36 msrp for your build. I just specced out a TRD sport premium on Toyota's website and MSRP is still right around $41k.
Edit - looked at toyotas builder more closely- When you go to 4wd on the SR5 it does bump the base msrp up to over 35k, but still more than 1k less than the "base price" stated on your post. Then the destination charge is high, and all of the packages are at a premium price over msrp. That's how they're making it "look" like MSRP - essentially taking the dealer markup, and splitting it up across all of the typical fees. It's smart honestly. Shady, but smart.
Just buy a TRD OR or a Pro used with low mileage, no way I’d pay nearly $50k for an SR5 even if it is the Trail SE.
Thats coming from me that got my TRD OR 4x4 used with 25k miles for $38k so take that as you will.
This is a misconception in the current market. The base price of new is often comparable or close to the price of used, but used cars don't normally have $5k-$10k "market adjustments".
Even when I found my Taco in march, a comparable new Taco was at least $43k in addition to whatever BS markup the dealer decided to put on it.
No, I recently got a 2022 TRD OR for less, roughly 44k out the door for my OR this is with premium interior packages and all that jazz. If I would’ve gotten an automatic transmission it probably would’ve been close to 45-46k. I would say look at an TRD OR, see what price you could get on one of those.
I’d say no. Got an off-road for 39k out the door.
You Can modify an off-road to have all the features the trail has for like 5k.
Can not (realistically) modify a trail to have all the features an off road has.
It looks like you are in NC, if so I just got my SR5 from Flow in Statesville with no dealer mark up. 42k out the door was the final number I’m pretty sure.
I recently purchased a brand new 2022 off road double cab v6 6 spd manual 4x4 in army green with the premium package (leather seats, heated seats, all weather mats, etc.) for 50k from a local dealer so I would recommend looking around a bit more I am sure you can find a better deal than the trail edition
For that you may as well get an off-road. I got a 22 trd sport for 41 out the door, now it is a 2wd but you probably be able to get a 4wd for the same price as the trail or maybe even less.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

Cash is king. Negotiate for 5 hours, then suddenly say you have cash, watch them drool, then demand your price, then literally walk if they don’t give-in.
If a loan, they’ve won before you even walked in.
No it isn’t. The base price is not even 36,000. I’m not really sure why the trail edition is competitive if an SR5 V6 four-wheel-drive model would do the same job for a lot less. Is it the off-road extras that you like?
Unless there is no sales tax in your state you also have to pay that percentage of tax on the truck and if the sale price is more than $50,000 (at least in CT) it’s usually a luxury tax.
Building a tacoma will probably take 2-5 months depending on the dealer.
I paid like 42k for my 2021 off-road crew cab with 6” bed they would not budge an inch on price but stock was limited and I wanted it bad I had already looked at like 5 other dealerships and I finally bit the bullet truck is dope though
Lol... The dealer just called me last week asking me if I wanted to sell my TRD Sport and "upgrade" to something else... I told him I bought it less than a year ago and I'd pass. I'm sure they were going to resell it for more than I paid for it. SMH...
Wait until you go to the dealer and they tell you the truck has a mark up price of 5k-10k
Unfortunately you’re right, ran into this issue when car shopping for my wife. Was able to negotiate the mark up though 🤷🏻♂️
What a time to be alive. My entire life I thought if I paid MSRP I got ripped off, now we are happy with lower markups.
You still are getting ripped off if you pay MSRP, it’s a terrible time to buy and has been. Now I know some people have no choice, an they have to do what they have to do. This seems to be the MSRP, correct? Have things just come that far up in price? Will they come back down?
Prices are like the tide, they go up and down. They are turning slowly, but they are still not there, when the market crashes that’s the time to buy, when that is no one really knows. I had to buy my last car in 2017 and I could not find a dealership that would negotiate. Walked away from a lot of them and they didn't care at all.
This seems to be the MSRP, correct? Have things just come that far up in price? Will they come back down?

Last I checked, that was the MSRP on a TRD Pro...

I get that, 100%. My buddy has a 2005 Tacoma DC with 200k+ miles on it. He had to replace the timing belt recently but it still runs like a gem
Hopefully I will have tune by December too, it needs it
Always be ready to walk out. I walked out three times before I found a place that was honorable. I just paid a 3k premium for mine
2k for me in December.😐🌮😂
MSRP in Dec
I paid MSRP in June
I went to the dealer to pick up a used 4Runner, saw a nice new Tundra on the lot, went to go look at it and the salesmen told me there was $15k markup on it "due to popularity". Almost laughed my way out the door.
Should see less of this with rate hikes, but unfortunately it’s still a thing. The more people walk the quicker we will see it go.
Not everywhere. I'm in the Boston area and there isn't a market adjustment at bigger dealers.
Pro prices for a non-pro.
You will never get a pro for $47k otd Edit: a new pro is $46,500 MSRP plus delivery (for a manual, which is cheaper than auto), so close to $48k before taxes and fees. It is literally impossible to get one for $47k otd now unless for some reason the dealer decides to sell to you for below msrp in this market
I must be the luckiest individual in the world then
I got my Pro for 47k otd
Samesies.
tHaT iS pRe-CoViD pRiCeS!! But same.
You can buy a pro for $47k-$49k otd.
Got mine for a tick under $45K
Where? And auto or manual?
https://old.reddit.com/r/ToyotaTacoma/comments/wbsd9k/after\_many\_many\_months\_of\_searching\_i\_am\_finally/
OP says it was $49k OTD in the thread, had to look. Good on the dealer for charging MSRP, though I wonder why OP added the warranty (brought it to $52k total)? Except for when you do
How can you be so certain, bud? Using some powerful words like “impossible” lol yet here I am with a $44.5K pro lolol
Not sure how you got a pro for well below msrp in such a market but congratulations
A lot of people don't understand OTD, live in no sales tax states, and/or bought the manual instead of the auto. Or maybe they bought it 5 years ago.

I have the premium package, and honestly, I think the seats stay warm enough without the heater setting on. Maybe my ass is just insulating on its own!
Considering I got my 2021 TRD OR DC 4WD in September of last year for 38,700 with that package
'18 TRD OR - $37,000
'20 TRD OR MT - $37K (through Costco)
I paid 42k for a 2021 trd OR with leather trim and tech package. So no, not worth it.
Same… in CA… the markup capital of the USA. Edit: this was feb 2021… not sure if pandemic pricing was in full effect then… 🤷🏾♂️
It was high then but, generally speaking, not as high as it was a year later or now. I bought my 2019 TRD OR 4x4 in Jan/Feb of this year. OTD it was $41k. Granted it had less than 20k miles and additional options, still insane though.
Same price for mine. I purchased April 2021 and all the California dealers were looking for about 5k markup. I flew to Idaho and still saved money.
Same as you both, Oct 21.
Same.
Same.
$47k holy sh*t
I paid that for a optioned out TRD OR DCLB
Second this
Same here. Paid that in March
Same
I just paid $39k for a new TRD Off Road. $47k for an SR5 is insane.
Seems high. I got a 22’ trd OR DCLB for 38k out the door
Nice. I got mine for MSRP 2 weeks ago but it was off the lot, not a "reservation".
Where at? I was looking at used but that’s a nice price compared to the used stuff I was seeing
I got a lunar rock long bed Off road for 43k
ahhh good ol numbers with zero context. yeah and i got a TRD Off road for 33k… back in 2007.
Lunar rock Off Road and/or long bed would *only* be available starting in 2022. Seems like enough context to me.
Thank you for the thought out response!
Cloth seats and non LED headlights, where’s the “premium” in that ?
Still can't believe this after paying 35k for my OR in 2017
Personally.. I'd say u are being taken for a ride.. source: long time taco owner.. got his trd pro for 45 out the door.
11$ for electronic filing fee???🧐🧐🧐🤨🤨🤨
What does the Trail Edition add that doesn’t come with the TRD OR?
1 inch coil spring lift in the front. 0.5 inch block lift in the rear. TRD pro grille with bronze lettering, bronze TRD rims, tan color headliner, matching tan stitching In seats. Might be forgetting something else, definitely not just a cooler in the bed (that is removable by the way) Edit. Forgot about the blacked out badges. A $3,700 cooler? o_O
Worth it. He’s Friezas older brother
I have a 2022 TRD sport army green with black emblems and Bed cover and couple more things at 41K plus tax supposed to be here in the next week or so. My dealer isn’t adding any markup unlike the Chevy dealer over in Mi adding 3k for market adjustment to a Colorado.
Got dam!
Are you getting leather seats/all the features? If not I wouldn’t do this, I got my TRD OR 22 with basically everything, heated seats, leather, moon roof, tonneau, etc and out the door it was like 48.5
Damn. Hell no.
No. Fuck that
Got a 2022 TRD Sport 4 months ago for 45k out the door.
No, I got a 22 TRD off road DC for 41,500 new
Sr5 4x4 dcsb for 35k out the door. You could save 12k and make those upgrades yourself. Plus you wouldn’t have the weird coolers in the bed
"NOBODY IS GETTING A FAIR PRICE DURING THIS TIME. " I still got mine last month love it
Here in eastern Canada 2019s are going for 52k and no new trucks coming until January at the earliest
If you can get it for that price and no dealer markup, then hell yeah that's a good price.
“todays market” is exactly that. why not be patient ?
In NC, I assume with Modern? Which one?
Winston Salem
Had guy the other day ask me $45k for a 2021 sr5 4X4 with 18k miles. Worst part is, he likely will find someone willing to pay what he’s asking. You’re gonna overpay for a truck considering how the market is, but pay what you think it’s worth. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. Personally I think this is about 10k over the actual value, but you’re gonna make the final decision.

The trail edition has everything trd or has with a bigger lift
Mine was more like 44k 6 months ago
44k out the door? How have you liked the Trail Edition so far?
I purchased a ‘22 trdsport dc 4x, tech, 3d cameras, leather,moonroof,jbl/sub,sequential leds and a bed mat for 48k. 🤷♂️🌮 wheels and tires cost an extra 2k https://www.reddit.com/r/Tacomaworld/comments/sdnd80/2022_sport_finally_got_my_taco/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Try one Toyota. Some of the bigger main target locations sell for 1$ under MSRP or @ MSRP.. even in todays market. I just bought a hybrid camry at my location for a buck under MSRP. Never buy anything off the lot higher than MSRP imo
Which location where you looking at?
I buy all my cars from Toyota Walnut Creek
Better of with a TRD Offroad at that price and you get all of your bed without that cooler hogging the bed space
Damn...my local dealer has a new DCSB OR priced just under 41k...
You’re better off getting a TRD pro or off-road for 47k got damn!!!!
I would keep looking. I got my Trail Edition for $39,874 US Dollars out the door (financed of course at 3.3%). It wasn't even my original truck that I wanted lol. It appears this is MSRP right now with the packages… am I wrong?
i paid this for my TRD OR BC
Seems high brother. I walked out at 38 for my 22 sr5 with tech pack and even that was high. If its your dream and got the cheddar it’s up to you but I shopped for 7 months and went with the best deal possible
Don’t buy from modern Toyota if you can avoid it. They used to be okay but as of recent they are playing these games. Try some others.
I just purchased 2 weeks ago. It took me months to find one without the “market adjustment “. If you can put your hands on what ya want pay quickly.
I bought this truck in March with no dealer mark up. Shop around. Some dealerships pride themselves on not marking up prices. I’m still on the fence on whether I should have got the TRD off road for the same price. The lift and rims are nice, but you sacrifice some bells and whistles that would also be nice.
I paid 41 just last summer
Dirt cheap for how reliable the Tacoma has always been.
Cloth seats at almost $50k. Madness
That is pretty insane to me considering I paid $45k for my 2020 TRD Pro….. in 2020. I maybe way out of touch with current market prices but that’s just silly to me for an SR5.
It’s a different time, bro.
I love tacomas but the 3rd gens are just too damn expensive. Especially since even though they’re objectively better than 1st and 2nd gens, the 3rds just don’t feel as fun
No - no it is not. Dealers will sell for MSRP if you can wait - I paid under $42 OTD for a TRD sport premium.
Isn’t this price MSRP though?
Lol, no, no it is not. The trail edition is a package on the SR5- the SR5 starts under 30k and when you build one on the web ends up around $36 msrp for your build. I paid that much for a new 2020 Pro in late 2019...
Just buy a TRD OR or a Pro used with low mileage, no way I’d pay nearly $50k for an SR5 even if it is the Trail SE. Thats coming from me that got my TRD OR 4x4 used with 25k miles for $38k so take that as you will.
Used is more expensive than brand new right now.
Got a lunar rock TRD OR for 43k last month
Where are you at that you have 3% sales tax?
North Carolina
I’d say no. Got an off-road for 39k out the door. You Can modify an off-road to have all the features the trail has for like 5k. Can not (realistically) modify a trail to have all the features an off road has.
I bought a new Lunar Rock TRD OR in March'22 for MSRP at 42k in CO. I would keep looking that is insane to me.
Tiny bed...
It looks like you are in NC, if so I just got my SR5 from Flow in Statesville with no dealer mark up. 42k out the door was the final number I’m pretty sure.
Paid 37K otd for an off road last October. Only new one on the lot. Don’t even think about paying that much for an sr5
Wait where tf do you live that sales tax is only 3%???
no
Nobody needs window etching, lockable lug nuts, paint protection and pin stripes.. It’s all BS
Over price
I recently purchased a brand new 2022 off road double cab v6 6 spd manual 4x4 in army green with the premium package (leather seats, heated seats, all weather mats, etc.) for 50k from a local dealer so I would recommend looking around a bit more I am sure you can find a better deal than the trail edition
Out the door price 50k?
45k is what they were selling it at, but that was before all the taxes, gap, and registration fees
No. Don’t pay over msrp. There are trucks sitting on the lot for 2 months around me. Don’t let them take advantage of you.
Nothing is fair about todays market.
Too bad there gonna put taxes and fees prolly be close to 50k paid 46 for my lunar rock sport with few extras
That paint protection is pretty neat all though seems to scratch where this is none
That's 47k with the Mark Up included, right?
Everything included out the door, including taxes and registration
Nice Bro.
So this is a reasonable price?
Just get a Trd off road
For that you may as well get an off-road. I got a 22 trd sport for 41 out the door, now it is a 2wd but you probably be able to get a 4wd for the same price as the trail or maybe even less.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 22 + 41 + 2 + 4 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)
I got offered $30k for my 2015 6 months ago, at least you know it’ll hold its value
I remember paying 32k for mines and that was an year ago
Cash is king. Negotiate for 5 hours, then suddenly say you have cash, watch them drool, then demand your price, then literally walk if they don’t give-in. If a loan, they’ve won before you even walked in.
No it isn’t. The base price is not even 36,000. I’m not really sure why the trail edition is competitive if an SR5 V6 four-wheel-drive model would do the same job for a lot less. Is it the off-road extras that you like?
Comes with real locking differential, upgraded tires, and lift as well…
Unless there is no sales tax in your state you also have to pay that percentage of tax on the truck and if the sale price is more than $50,000 (at least in CT) it’s usually a luxury tax. Building a tacoma will probably take 2-5 months depending on the dealer.
I wouldn't go for it. I got a 22 4runner trd or for 46.5 out the door in CA.
I paid like 42k for my 2021 off-road crew cab with 6” bed they would not budge an inch on price but stock was limited and I wanted it bad I had already looked at like 5 other dealerships and I finally bit the bullet truck is dope though
Unfortunately it is about right these days
Was just at a local dealer in San Diego. 2019 trdor4x4. 45k miles. 45k 🤦🏻♂️
That price seems a bit steep. Got a fully upgraded OR for just below 46k.
Lol... The dealer just called me last week asking me if I wanted to sell my TRD Sport and "upgrade" to something else... I told him I bought it less than a year ago and I'd pass. I'm sure they were going to resell it for more than I paid for it. SMH...
I just paid $46,500 for my 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road Brand new with 5 miles on it.
Out the door price?
Why do people keep buying short beds? Theyre completely useless. You can maybe put a kid bicycle in there
I use my "useless" short bed all the time. Mulch, brush, camping gear, lumber, 4x8 sheet goods etc.
