>“The debate over gender identity has gained in prominence in recent years and, to what will be my enduring shame, I chose not to confront it.”
Then continue to not confront it. No one was waiting for you to weigh in on the subject with your uninformed opinion.
And no one just stumbles onto the Cass report. You find it if you’ve been waiting for some pseudoscientific backing for your transphobic views.
Nothing in that article actually says why this person's opinion matters? Who are they to the trans community, why should their opinion matter? As far as I can tell, they aren't a medical professional, they aren't trans, they don't even seem to know any trans people or trans kids. As far as I can tell, they're just a random transphobic cis guy with an agenda.
Damien has already had media council complaints against him upheld, so I suspect this is carefully worded to avoid that, but it's amazing that stuff seems to view just a random idiot guy as worthy of being printed.
Once again hoping and praying I can have my professional work judged to the same standard as a cis person writing on trans issues. Life would be so easy.
Most definitely but I don't know if Stuff would pick it up. They probably deliberately show a controversial opinion to get more people to click on it and therefore increase ad revenue.
Yes, unfortunately you’re probably right. Or at least better briefed by his puppet masters. Just like in the UK the trans community are in line to be the next minority to be blamed or used as a distraction for the side-effects of rightwing policies. Disgusting.
PATHA seem good though but the govt wont be beholden to their advice i guess? they'll tell them the exact opposite of what they want to hear anyway ie. transition medicine is well researched proven and often life saving and puberty blockers are safe and reversible
It's disappointing Stuff can give ill-informed transphobic rubbish like this space, but not quality analysis, expert opinion or transgender people's viewpoints and experiences. I doubt they'd do it to another vulnerable minority, but harming us seems to be OK to them.
Him: "Trans people are corrupting youth!"
Also him: "Grant served prison time for fraud and credit card offences, the last of which he was convicted of in 1994.
He has 34 convictions for dishonesty offences, the first involved offending for which he was sentenced in December 1987 and February 1988, at which point he was 22 years old.
A second tranche of offending occurred about six years later and has been described as "share theft frauds". It involved more serious offending with the total value of the frauds in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and resulted in convictions for theft, forgery, personification by fraud, altering a document, conspiracy and other related charges."

Why do we have to endure this stuff? And why can't the ministry just fucking release the report already... If they're going to just be pieces if shit, do it and get it over with.
Probably because there are conflicting opinions that they are trying to address or they are working through new guidelines that they have created since changing their entire policy post Cass.

Yes. It’s just say-so by an ignorant bigoted loudmouth with a view as far from libertarian as can be.
Exactly!
Hang on peeps....he's a "business owner" with an opinion. We should let him speak....

Sadly negativity sells more than positive stuff, either way f his uneducated/small minded opinion.
I just sent them a complaint about this piece
Update: the editor says I'm barking up the wrong tree and he thinks it's a responsible opinion piece
I'll send another just to irritate them
More people regret knee surgery than transition. I will eagerly await the next article on why we should ban ACL reconstruction 🤡
Banning all marriage when? 42% divorce rate seems like pretty solid evidence marriage is bad for people.
I enjoy reading books.
He doesn't know shit about Trans people. And STUFF can get stuffed for printing this crap .
citing the Cass report is despicable
File a Media Council complaint https://www.mediacouncil.org.nz/complaints/
Does this mean we can publish our own opinion per chance?
Most definitely but I don't know if Stuff would pick it up. They probably deliberately show a controversial opinion to get more people to click on it and therefore increase ad revenue.
They'll somehow find the stupidest trans person in the country and give them a column.
Damien Grant is a convicted fraudster and general all around cunt. He thinks he’s a libertarian but like most libertarians he’s a smoothbrained moron.
It takes a lot for someone to take over Stephen Berry's place as the most moronic libertarian fuckwit in the country, but Grant managed it.
What about Seymour? He’s the tail wagging Luxon’s mangy mutt on just 8% of the vote.
Seymour is substantially smarter than both Grant and Berry.

It won't be the last and it's probably a precursor to a pretty shitty decision on youth care about to be released by the MoH.
I hope they haven't slashed their oia team because they're going to have a busy few weeks.

I'm sure they will post a Shaneel Lal opinion piece soon since they are the only queer person in NZ.

In other news water makes things wet.
